Pizza and Taco #2

Best Party Ever!

Rate this book
Pizza and Taco are bored, so they decide to throw an awesome party! What could possibly go wrong?

Pizza and Taco have the oh-so-relatable problem of not knowing what to do when boredom strikes. The answer? Throw a party! They have a location, and a guest list, and decorations. Everything is perfect . . . until it isn't. In fact, it's kind of a DISASTER! Ice Cream has a meltdown, and who knew Hamburger was lactose intolerant? (Who invited Cheeseburger anyway?) Well, now they know how NOT to throw a party!!

A genius retelling of Waiting for Godot , which sacrifices little of the mystery enveloped by the original text yet which makes it approachable for younger audiences.

Not only do Pizza and Taco have a Vladimir and Estragon dynamic going on, but their counterparts, Hot Dog and Hamburger, resemble Pozzo and Lucky: the former pair spend much of their time wallowing in boredom, waiting for something about which they know little, only to alleviate that boredom by creating their own adventure and mirth from thin air; the latter pair seem not to exist except as spiteful mirrors of the protagonists, led to enervation and rage through their inability to make anything out of that boredom. Why would one go to a water park without first checking whether it is open? Why would one wait for something which seems destined to never arrive?

Pizza and Taco are, like their text, resolved to answer the unanswerable questions of the soul in its long, dark nights, yet crucially, the pair (and the book) never quite lose their joie de vivre. A must-read for children and Beckett aficionados alike.

Cute and fun read. The artwork was cool. And my niece and nephew enjoyed the story. I wouldn't mind buying this for them and their book collection.

First sentence:
Pizza: I'm bored.
Taco: What do you want to do?
Pizza: I don't want to sit around and do nothing. What do you want to do?
Taco: I don't know!

Premise/plot: Pizza and Taco are back for their second adventure in Best Part Ever. The two start out BORED as can be. The case seems hopeless...until one of them gets the idea to throw a party. The two go all out with party planning. Will this be the BEST PARTY EVER? Or are the two demonstrating how NOT to throw a party?

My thoughts: I loved this one. I absolutely LOVED, LOVED, LOVED it. It was brilliant from the start. Pizza and Taco couldn't be more relatable! I loved their invitation list which gives readers a chance to meet other characters in this world. They ended up inviting: Cake and Icecream, the Chicken Tender twins, Hamburger and Hotdog, and Cheeseburger.

My absolute favorite, favorite scene occurs when ICE CREAM hears a clap of thunder. He has a MELT DOWN--with lots of screaming--because he's afraid of loud noises.

I definitely recommend this series. Very silly. Very fun.

'Pizza and Taco: Best Party Ever!' with story and art by Stephen Shaskan is a fun graphic novel for early readers.

Pizza and Taco are good friends, but even good friends have days when they don't know what to do. After some thinking, they decide to throw a party. This means making lists for the party and lists of guests to invite, but who invited cheeseburger?

This was a fun read about good friends. It's also about being welcoming and adaptable when things don't go right. The illustrations are pretty cute too.

I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Random House Children's and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

Another graphic novel starring another silly/ridiculous duo? You bet! Pizza and Taco decide to throw THE BEST PARTY EVER! But will an unexpected obstacle foil all their plans? This was a silly, short, simple graphic novel with fun illustrations. My younger students (1st-3rd grade) will eat it right up!

Spoiler Alert!: Pizza and Taco do not know how to throw a party.

LOVE the huge appeal of this series for such a large age range! (We have kids 1st grade up through 4th reading it!) Dont miss Stephen Shaskan’s second Pizza and Taco graphic novel, Best Party Ever!

Pizza and Taco: Best Party Ever! fell short for me. It is a very weak story. But, emerging readers are just trying to make out the words, so they may not mind. The art is unique, but not that great.

Graphic Novel.
I received an electronic ARC from Random House Children's Publisher through NetGalley.
Shaskan shares further adventures of best friends Taco and Pizza. In book two, they decide to throw a party and invite all of their friends. As expected, things go wrong and Taco and Pizza are a bit clueless. Elementary level readers will love the humor in this series. The characters each have their own personality bring their food to life.
Looking forward to book three.

Pizza & Taco are bored, then they decide to have a party. That's the simple synopsis of this comic. This was very, very basic and I think it might be for emerging readers? I had my seven-year-old read it and he got bored very fast (and did not finish). The pictures are interesting but the story didn't really make sense and it might not have to for an emergent reader (think Dick and Jane... They had no real plot). When I read to my kids I like to enjoy the book as well and if I would have read this to my 3 or 4 year old I would not have enjoyed it.

I’m not sure who enjoys these books more, my grandchildren or me? Every time I read one of these books, which is every weekday, they make me laugh. We have purchased every book in this series and are awaiting the new book this fall. Pizza and Taco are great friends who have their moments together but, in the end, they realize how much they like each other, and they know that’s what really matters. There’s a life lesson squeezed into each book but if you’re not looking for it, you just might miss it.

In Pizza and Taco’s Best Party Ever, the friends are bored and don’t have anything to do. They “think, think, think” about some options but nothing ends up being fun until the idea of having a party, pops into their minds, at the same time. Of course, Taco is ready to make the list of what they need, so with Pizza’s pen and Taco’s paper, they get down to work planning the perfect party. If you’ve read the other books in the series, you will pick up on the reference to some of their comments in this book but if you haven’t, you’re not lost as the illustrations and the text will fill you in. With their list complete, it’s time to get working on the party!

I think this is one of my favorites in this series. They had planned their party out, they thought they had planned every detail of their party, yet it seems like everything started to crumble as they tried to execute their plans. It was supposed to be “awesome!” “yaaas!” but “ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!” their plans are met with disaster. The look on their faces was hilarious! I loved how they pushed themselves through, repeatedly, trying to make the best of the situation just to get through the party. They’re trying to make the party fun and entertaining even though their plans are history.

With short chapters, a text that’s easy to follow and a great storyline, these stories are fun to read and are a great book for beginner readers. The illustrations are bright, colorful, and busy but aren’t bursting with unnecessary details. Other readers will enjoy them for the humor and illustrations. A great series that my grandchildren and I really enjoy.

Pizza and Taco are friends and they want to throw a party. They make their lists, deciding who to invite and what to bring. Unfortunately they didn’t check to be sure their preferred venue was open. So when they arrived to set up the party, they discovered the water park was closed,

When Pizza and Taco made their invitation list, they invited Cake, Ice Cream, the Chicken Tender twins, Hotdog, Hamburger and Cheeseburger. Hamburger wasn’t happy that Cheeseburger was invited. Then the party fizzled out. They decided not to invite Cheeseburger to the next party.

I am disappointed that the author decided to include the part about excluding Cheeseburger. Why highlight that detail in a children’s book? There were several scenes where the characters looked angry, but there didn't seem to be anything to be angry about. The dialog was slow at the beginning and I felt the storyline could be made more interesting,

I do think kids will like this book. The lead characters are likely their favorite foods. And who doesn’t like a party, even if the party isn’t very successful?

I received an ARC copy from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest opinion.

In this early reader book, the second in a series featuring two favorite foods, Pizza and Taco--yum!--are feeling a bit bored. To ease that boredom, they decide to plan a party and send out invitations. They spend quite a bit of time figuring out what to serve and preparing a banner and a location for the party. But when their guests arrive, the Water Park is closed, the banner is misspelled, and there are some issues with the refreshments. After the guests leave quite dissatisfied, they clean up and make a to-do list for the next time they host a party, having learned from their mistakes. And what else is there to do? Absolutely nothing. The two friends decide to just chill out. Youngsters will enjoy the graphic novel format and the interjections in very large typefaces as well as the always-negative Cheeseburger, who probably won't ever get an invitation to a party again. Pizza and Taco and their friends have distinctive personalities. For its intended audience and those who enjoyed the previous title starring these two, this one will have great appeal. As for me? I didn't read it and want to host a party, but I did start craving a taco.

Pizza and Taco have nothing to do so they decide to throw a party. It starts out with great intentions but then things fall apart: the water party is closed, a misspelling on the banner, and someone has an allergic reaction to the punch.

The drawings are simple, and easy to see character emotions. I like detail of having enlarged photos as the background for the food (Pizza is just an up-close picture of pizza cheese) and the bubbles are easy to read. I like that the characters make a list at the end of everything they learn about what not to do when they throw a party. The scene where Taco and Pizza are panicking and then pizza screams EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE OKAY!! felt very relatable.

I think kids who are beginning to read comics will like this but this comic is not for me. Taco's repeat use of YAAAS as a catch phrase just fell flat and Taco and Pizza just seem a bit oblivious to their friends. I would still read the first and next in the series.

I looked into the Pizza and Taco series thinking it would be something cute for my nephew. Unfortunately, while there were some laughs, the content was just not something that felt was appropriate for many reasons. This was the second title in the series I looked at hoping it was different, but, unfortunately, this book was just as unappealing as the first.

While Pizza and Taco share a wonderful friendship, they couldn't be more rude to those around them. They feel like a clique, and others, like Hamburger and Hot Dog, aren't "cool enough" to be in the squad and are nothing short of an annoyance. I don't like the message this sends to young children who are learning to maneuver social situations. I certainly wouldn't want my nephew to act as if his friends were the only ones worthy of respect and acknowledgment. I would want him to show that to everyone.

For these reasons, I just can't support this series.

Thanks to NetGalley and Random House Children’s for the digital review copy.

This early chapter book style graphic novel is perfect for beginning readers. There are cool pictures to go along with simple sentences in a chapter format to get them used to reading bigger books with longer sentences/paragraphs. There are steps and each chapter builds on the last. Plus, who doesn’t love Pizza and Tacos? Their friends, including cake and ice cream, chicken tender twins, and cheeseburger come to hang out as well.

I had a lot of fun with this one, and I hope that your kiddos will, too. It’s out in January, a perfect way to start off the new year, so keep an eye out for it at your favorite local bookstore or library.

Thank you to Random House Books for Young Readers and NetGalley for the eARC to read and review!

Young readers will find Pizza and Taco: Best Party Ever! to be a joyful read about the tribulations Pizza and Taco go through to cure their boredom.

What’s cool about this story is that it introduces kids to graphic novels and how to read them. I also liked how the characters are part illustrated part real images (as you can see by the festive cover art).

While I felt the story was a little underwhelming, I liked the creativity of the book. I think kids will be interested in reading about two yummy foods throwing a party.

I didn't like that one as much as the first book.
When I read reviews of book 1, some people felt weird about hamburger and hot dog and thought it was a little bit bullying. Then with pizza and taco kind of forgetting about them and not know the names of the chicken tender twins and basically just hating on cheeseburger, I felt a bit uncomfy about the dynamics as well.
I also think it's so weird to have food characters eating and drinking. here they are just drinking (punch) but then hot dog is allergic to it and it's just weird (not in a good way).

I still think students will get a kick out of it, especially the FARTY banner but it's definitely not my new favorite.

We actually started with this book first in the series because of its party-themed cover and I’m certain this is my son‘s favorite. He can’t get over the zany characters and their many misfortunes.

As an adult I had to admit, I almost died laughing at their party banner in chapter 3. Epic laugh out loud moments were unlocked. Any book that will have me hurling LOLs alongside my son is a keeper on his shelf. The reread-able value is priceless here.

We’re showering this one with all the stars and have read it already twice in one day.

Thank you Random House Graphic / RHK for sending us a fun graphic title for review.

I received an eARC courtesy of Random House Books for Young Readers & NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

Kids are sure to be thrilled with best buddies, Pizza & Taco. Any child who is a fan of the zanier side of comics will find a lot to love with this one. Personally, I am a huge fan of that adorable rain cloud. I would certainly pair this with a light lesson on the behavior (some of these food items have quite the attitude, but I think that would be a great lead in to proper party behavior).

For libraries: A great addition to an early graphics collection.

Just finished reading Pizza and Taco: Best Party Ever! and my First grader loved it! The book was really easy going, super simple, and had a fun comic book look. I personally enjoyed the list making and the fact that Taco and Pizza seemed really upbeat even though their plans fell through. My daughter really enjoyed this book and we had fun reading it together. A great book and I’d recommend this to family and friends with you school aged children.

I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.

Taco and Pizza are bored so they decide to throw a party. They make a list so they don't forget anything, and make invitations to invite all their friends, but when they get to the water park, it's closed. Can Taco and Pizza handle this change in their plans?

I love the illustrations - photos of food, with faces drawn on. The process of planning a party was perfect, and the story, told in word bubbles was exciting and fun. A great transition from picture books to chapter books.

Droll, but not essential, read for the very young, where our favourite taco and our favourite pizza slice liven up by throwing a party for some friends. A party which doesn't really go brilliantly, but just well enough to get us to the end of the book. There's no moral to take from this as per Book One, the story is kind of on the slight side however humorous some bits might be, and it didn't make me think these books would be favourites for long.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for sending me the PDF of this book!

This book was adorable in every way! I love how funny the characters were while solving their problems together. The theme of teamwork was evident in this story which is definitely an important thing for children to learn about. I will be purchasing this entire series for my classroom. My students will love these books! I would recommend this book to literally anyone!

Who doesn't love pizza and tacos? I really enjoyed this story about friendship and how to plan a party. I think that this would be great book to read with children as the illustrations and the dialogue is engaging and funny. An educator may find this book useful when teaching kids how to make lists and learn from trial and error. More importantly, it shows characters having fun as they make mistakes and learn from their mistakes.

I can see this appealing to some very young audiences, but it was not for me or my family.

I thought the idea of pizza and tacos with some other favourite foods was a fun idea and concept and there were a few laughs here and there.

I just found the story rather slow and boring. I think this would need to be for very young kids or kids who like really crazy, silly, out there ideas.

I received an eARC from Random House Children's through NetGalley. All opinions are 100% my own.
