Treasure is the sixth story I've read from the Hush Collection. Despite the synopsis calling it a "darkly comic short story of class divide", I didn't find anything about it that would fit the term "comic". It is dark, brutal, and there were hints of more brutality than on the surface. Treasure, a house worker who dreams of Instagram fame, is being stalked by a brute of a man, and in the background, I feel that there are clues that this isn't his first round of stalking or worse.

My sister, serial killer was my favorite debut dark comedy/thriller of the last year. When I saw the author’s name at the writers list who contributed this remarkable Hush series, I punched the air and danced on my dinner table ( I don’t cook so I wanted to use the space for something useful like performing my artsy moves)
The story takes place in Lagos, Virginia. There are two sisters: Treasure and Patience ( yes, another sisters with opposite characters. One of them is social butterfly and rising star of Instagram with her influential skills! Yes, as you may guess: Treasure is the shiny one as Patience ( good name choices which reflect perfectly the characteristics of two girls)patiently takes her sister’s photos to boast her social media popularism, pouting, criticizing her careless attitudes and her intense voyeurism and her intention to deceive people by presenting them her fake life.
Yes, social media can be so deceitful, phony which attract delusional people’s attention who aren’t capable to differentiate between truth and artificiality.
Like @sho4sure who is following her and decides to make Treasure his beautiful wife.
This is short, gripping, psychological, dark story about criticism of social media and its destructive effects on the people.
It was still good but I found it a little weak when I compare it with other five books of the series. So I decided to leave this at Switzerland territory: I didn’t love or hate it so let’s go to Winchester, meet with Shaun, have a nice cold pint and wait for all of this to blow over and give this book three stars!
I wish there would be more books of the series. I had really great time! Desperately waiting for new September collaborations of Amazon Publishing🤞🏻

Treasure is a budding Instagram star who is eager to grow her platform and become an influencer. Posting pictures of her wonderful life in Nigeria, it’s normal to get a few fans. One fan in particular is determined to meet Treasure in person and be a part of her lavish life.
I’m not sure how this is described as “darkly comic”...It is not. It’s another story on the dangers of social media, and it is done quite well. It’s not something that will haunt me forever, but I love how it’s written as something that could potentially happen...and surely has.
This is part of Amazon’s new Hush Collection, 6 stories each written by a different author.
I have now read them all.

Super short cautionary story about online influencers and the length at which people go in order to present a false reality. Set in Lagos, Treasure is a dark comedy that should have us reflecting on our online privacy and how innocuous posts might result in real-life tragic consequences.

In the final piece from the original HUSH collection, Oyinkan Braithwaite offers readers a unique story that speaks more to the lure of social media than anything else. Quick and with her native Nigerian tilt, Braithwaite keeps reader on their toes until the final reveal. Recommended to those who enjoy something a little unique, particularly readers who have read the other stories in this collection.
Treasure enjoys the camera and it would seem the feeling is mutual. Her choice of fashion and the means by which she dolls herself up is perfect for the Instagram account she’s created. The many followers of her account agree, based on the number of likes Treasure gets with each day’s posting.
One follower in particular, @Sho4Sure, has been following Treasure for as long as he can remember. He’s fixated on everything she says and is happy to see that she’s gone so far as to respond to his comments. He makes sure everyone knows that this is the woman he’ll marry, as soon as he can ask for her hand.
When Treasure lets slip her location in a post, @Sho4Sure feels it’s a sign and treks over there with his social media companion. Who knew she was so close? When Treasure and her greatest fan come face to face, it’s like nothing either of them could have imagined. However, this is only one of many surprises that await them both in this story, where, like social media, the truth is not always as it appears.
This was my first piece by Oyinkan Braithwaite, and certainly different from much that I have read of late. There is certainly an African feel to things, both in the description and the dialogue, though this uniqueness is refreshing and quite alluring. It adds something to the story that left me wanting more.
Treasure appears to be the typical social media starlet, dreaming big and using Instagram as her stage. She does well to present herself to those around her, though the truth about it differs greatly, as the reader discovers throughout the piece. A Nigerian #queen, she basks in the attention she gets, hoping her fan base will increase the more her presence is felt.
Braithwaite appears almost to be offering a tale of warning in this piece, providing the reader with a set of cautions about the use of social media. Both Treasure and @Sho4Sure present opposing sides of the same coin, the star and the fan, both wrapped up in their roles and yet deceived by the other. This becomes apparent in the latter portion of the story, as the truth comes out and both are forced to admit something.
With short chapters and a plot that seems focused on a single event, Braithwaite quickly develops the thread of the tale and leads the writer as it all plays out. Perhaps the least complex of all the HUSH stories, but still an enjoyable piece that has me debating about reaching for the author’s full-length novel. Likely to be one that divides readers, though most decent writing does that.
Kudos, Madam Braithwaite, for this intriguing piece that kept me wondering throughout. I am eager to see what others thought and where your next writing project might take you.

Great for a 45 minute car ride!
My family and I were driving to a friend’s house who doesn’t live the closest and my kids were all napping in the car. So I didn’t wake them by chatting with my husband, I looked for the shortest kindle story I could find and came across this one!
I literally have zero clue why this is called ‘darkly comic’ but it’s all dark and not comical.
For a short story which can lack depth I thought this was a pretty good story that left me constantly wondering what would happen next.
And the small twist at the end was rather unexpected too!
A great mini thriller and best of all, Amazon short story collections are a great way to read a sampler of an author before digging into their novel first.

Treasure is the name of a social influencer on Instagram. She has many followers who view her fashionable, wealthy lifestyle in Lagos, Nigeria with interest.
One of her fans is a young man who is struck by her beauty and wealth. He wants to marry her and share her life of luxury in the big mansion. First he must ask her father for consent. There would be a bride price which is beyond his meager means, but perhaps her father will provide for them when they marry. He decides to visit with a young friend and they arrive at the secure gated community.
Treasure and her pretend sister have no idea that the young man has tracked her down and unaware they are going to meet him. Things go very badly for all concerned.

This is my sixth and final read from the Hush Collection, and aside from Snowflakes, which I intensely disliked, this was my least favorite. While it's a great representation on the dangers of social media, that's really all it is. The story seemed unfinished to me, and I wasn't a huge fan of the writing. The setting was cool though.

The narration by Adepero Oduye enhanced the experience for me, so I highly recommend the audible!

From the author of My Sister, the Serial Killer, this cautionary tale for the younger generation is once again set in Lagos, Nigeria and includes a lot of Nigerian flavour. Short, sharp and packs a real punch.

Treasure is an ambitious young woman who wants nothing more than to be a famous Instagram influencer.
She carefully curates her online image: from planning exactly the right time to update to be seen by the most people, to only showing off the newest clothes and objects, to dealing charmingly but firmly with over-interested men, to making sure she always includes #blessed in her posts so her followers know she's not only beautiful and rich, she's also humble and spiritual.
Treasure does it all perfectly --until one day, a momentary slip up (of about 30 seconds) reveals her real address.
I rather enjoyed this story! I thought it was far better done and fit Braithwaite's social media interests better than others of her stories. Yes, you could argue it's a bit predictable, but that's not really the point.
The point is this: even a small, accidental mistake on social media -- one wrong word, the wrong photo posted, the inclusion of sensitive material -- can cause an entire tragic shitstorm to ensue, even if it is caught and deleted within a few seconds.
That's because you never know who is just sitting there, watching the feed for hours and hours, and who will catch that tiny mistake and use it against you. (This has happened to me in rl, and it's scary!)
This is the 3rd Oyinkan Braithwaite I've read and it's my fave. The others were "My Sister, the Serial Killer" and The Baby is Mine.

Treasure is one of six short stories in the Amazon Hush Collection.
I wasn't a fan of Braithwaite's wildly popular My Sister, The Serial Killer but was still excited to give her a go on this short story. I'm intrigued by stories involving "social media influencers" as it's something this middle-aged man is critical about. Get a few drinks in me and you'll likely get a way too honest answer. So I also realize it's an area of opportunity for me to grow and gain a better understanding. That's why I'm intrigued to read stories that dive deeper into the topic - maybe I'll be enlightened or maybe I'll be vindicated in my thinking, who knows.
This didn't turn out to be a literary example I'd plant my flag on, but it was an interesting take on two sides of the situation and the potential harmful repercussions.
Both this and Oyinkan's previous novel were labeled "dark comedy" and I don't understand why. I'm going to assume I am the problem here and that it's just not my type of humor. Be warned if you know me and we have similar tastes.
I also find the author's prose to be very simple. But I was impressed with how she was able to explore the topic with some depth in such a short amount of space.

I do not appear to be a fan of Oyinkan Braithwaite, I think maybe that what I liked best about My Sister, The Serial Killer was the quirky title. Her humor seems to go over or under my radar. Never-the-less, she writes a good tale about flawed, unlikable characters (the most interesting kind), which is probably what I like best about her work. I wonder why people who incessantly post on instragram (and/or other social media platforms), are surprised when they end up being targeted by some repulsive stalker. This was an engrossing story that held my interest (sort of) throughout. Maybe I will fall in love with this author, after another couple of tries, once I get a handle on her style. Kindle Unlimited included the audio version read beautifully by Adepero Oduye. She did a brilliant job narrating MS,TSK as well.

Short story about the dangers of social media and the fakeness of all those seemingly perfect lives we see on Instagram, that brought to mind a quote from the movie “Scream 4” (I know, a masterpiece 😅) and that sums up “Treasure” perfectly: “I don’t need friends; I need fans”

This will not be my first and last book by this author. This short story was fantastic!
Set I'm Nigeria, Treasure is obsessed with her Instagram account. The goal is 5,000 followers, getting that blue tick and becoming an influencer.
It just takes one post to pose a threat to the whole dream, just one tiny mistake on one single post and the cards can come tumbling down.
As long as you delete it fast, its going to be OK. Right?

Treasure is a short story story that explores the darker side of Instagram fame. Treasure is an aspiring influencer who is quite willing to present a glamorised version of her life to her follower. She likes the attention, the compliments, and the devotion of her fans. User @Sho4Sure has become particularly obsessed by Treasure and one small oversight on her part will have dangerous consequences for both of them.
Treasure is a story that is bursting with irreverent dark humour that touches upon machismo, opulence, fame, obsession, and class. Whereas My Sister, the Serial Killer took me by surprise, Treasure seemed a bit more formulaic. Still, Treasure is quick and entertaining read that cemented my belief that Oyinkan Braithwaite is an author to watch.
Treasure is a short story story that explores the darker side of Instagram fame. Treasure is an aspiring influencer who is quite willing to present a glamorised version of her life to her follower. She likes the attention, the compliments, and the devotion of her fans. User @Sho4Sure has become particularly obsessed by Treasure and one small oversight on her part will have dangerous consequences for both of them.
Treasure is a story that is bursting with irreverent dark humour that touches upon machismo, opulence, fame, obsession, and class. Whereas My Sister, the Serial Killer took me by surprise, Treasure seemed a bit more formulaic. Still, Treasure is quick and entertaining read that cemented my belief that Oyinkan Braithwaite is an author to watch.

Of all of the "Hush" stories I read, this one and "Slow Burner" have stayed with me the longest.
This is the story of Treasure, a budding Instagram sensation in a village in Africa who posts beautiful pics of herself in her Fendi, Gucci, and other finery. She's doing a great job amassing a dedicated following to her luxurious life...including one follower nearby who might be just a little too obsessed.
I really enjoyed the writing, the setting, and all of the class issues in the book. I was legitimately scared by this book and totally floored by the twist. Even today, I can't stop thinking about that twist and it creeps me out completely.
A very smart, interesting, and fast-paced short read that makes me think I have to go back and finish My Sister the Serial Killer right away.

3.5 stars. I actually rather enjoyed this short novella from the Hush collection. I loved the narration by Adepero Oduye and the story felt authentically African.

"Treasure" is the second story in the "Hush Collection" published by Amazon. I have never read a book by Braithwaite before, but am definitely going to seek out her longer works after this. This was a wholly engaging story about the lives we put on display via social media and who we truly are when we are alone.
"Treasure" follows a young Nigerian girl who wants to use Instagram in order to become an "instagram influencer." Treasure's life and photos show how wonderful her life is and with her 5,000 followers constantly liking her photos, she knows that she is on the way. When a young man named @Sho4Sure starts to follow Treasure, he thinks he has find the woman who is going to be his wife. Sending her some private DMs (digital messages) has him thinking that Treasure is thinking of him too. Along with one of his friends, @Sho4Sure is determined to do whatever it takes to make Treasure his.
So I have to say that I loved the characters of Treasure and also even @Sho4Sure. I thought that the story spelling out both of their lives and how they are on social media was a great comparison. And I liked how in the end, you know how things are going to go for both of them once the story concludes.
I thought the writing was really good and the flow works. I also loved how this one ended with no long drawn out reveal or anything.

My second read of the short story hush collection and I really liked it.
I was excited as I really loved My Sister, the Serial Killer and this has a very similar vibe.
Too short of course, but plenty packed in to give it lots of punch!

Katru dienu viņa publicē savus selfijus, portretējot skaistu un pārtikušu dzīvi, par ko lielākā daļa cilvēku var tikai sapņot. Un viņai ir arī kvēlākais fans - @Sho4Sure, kurš nolemj būt Treasure vīru un daļu no viņas bagātās dzīves. Tomēr atklājas, ka nevar ticēt visam ko redzi internetā.

1. She’s Nigerian and it feels like home when I’m reading the pidgin English in her books
2. She always makes her books interesting. Even if they are just out of pocket (like ‘the baby is mine) I will still be forever entertained.

This novella literally made me open my Instagram and check all of my geotags (if you know, you know).
Braithwaite strikes again! I love how her works always critically examines the concept of beauty and ego. This particular short story is a satire on influencer culture. One might say that it was predictable but Braithwaite's stories are always about the journey, diving deep into the character's psyche and exploring. However, because it was short, it felt flat. Her writing always packs a punch and never disappoints me personally. This was good, but didn't top My Sister, The Serial Killer, an all time fav of mine.
