The Trouble with Wanting is the first book I’ve read by Jillian Liota and I’m so determined to binge devour all of her previous works! The close-knit relationship in Boyd’s, the male main character’s, family is much appreciated, and I love how Boyd and Ruby work out their romantic development throughout the book.

The pace in this book isn’t fast, but everything is quite flawlessly plotted out. The writing is impeccable, making it easy to resonate with the characters and further FEEL the story as it unfolds. All in all, the entire reading experience is fairly pleasant and I certainly will read Jillian’s future works.

Highly recommend The Trouble with Wanting as it’s perfect for a summer read. I’m sure you’ll enjoy Boyd and Ruby’s sense of humor and cuteness of the couple.

This is such a gorgeous read! A sweet, fun, sexy and heartfelt small-town romance, and though a standalone, it’s also a fantastic beginning to a new series that I can’t wait to dive into!

Boyd Mitchell is a workaholic who is flying from his home in Boston back to his home town of Cedar Point to spend the last two weeks of summer with his family – as is their tradition. Quiet and standoff-ish he is definitely not a people person, but that all changes when he is seated next to a beautiful, but chatty, woman on his flight.

Ruby Roberts has never flown before, and she’s nervous as all hell. But she’s taking a trip to meet the father who walked out on her and her mother when she was just a child. A quirky, spirited woman, she is known for her rambling, and from the moment she boards the plane, she strikes up a lively conversation with her seatmate.

Boyd and Ruby’s banter and flirting is fun and quick-witted, and over all too soon. So, they are both thrilled when they discover that they have ended up in the same small town for their trip. Not wanting to miss the opportunity to spend time together, they go all-in, and Ruby is quickly swept up into Boyd’s life and his lively family, every moment of it drawing them closer and closer together as they fall hard and fast.

It’s fun and exciting, and I was riding the wave of anticipation waiting for something to happen between these two. It’s easy and natural, with great chemistry and fantastic build-up, and it’s so, so beautiful. I love that they follow their hearts and just go with it.

Suddenly, I’m glad I’m not the type of girl who plays hard to get. It’s overrated.

This is such a functional romance. They have fun together, they talk, they are playful and flirty, there’s no game playing or stupid behaviour, there’s just attraction, openness and so many feels - and some seriously hot sexy time - and I freaking loved it!

Ruby lifts a hand and strokes it through my hair, the tenderness in her caress cracking something open inside of me.
“I couldn’t have dreamed you up,” she whispers, looking at me like I hung the fucking moon.

But, of course, it’s not all easy. Ruby has long-ingrained issues from her past that impact on their deepening relationship. It’s heartbreakingly frustrating, but I could see where she was coming from. Plus, it allows Boyd the chance to shine as the deeply-smitten man who will fight for the girl he loves.

“What you need is a man who loves you enough to never let you go, a man who will continue so show up, time after time, who will continue to fight for you, who will prove to you over and over again that love is absolutely worth the trouble.”

He’s so freaking perfect! Such a good guy, with a big heart, and I just loved him! Seeing him with his family and friends is gorgeous, and watching his patience, his care, and his understanding when it comes to Ruby just melted my heart. Plus he’s hot as all hell! He’s absolutely irresistible, and I just adored him.

Damn, do I love her, and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life making sure she knows how I feel down in the deepest parts of her soul.

Boyd’s family are a fantastic bunch – they’re very close and have so much love for each other, but still bicker and banter as families do. He’s the eldest of five siblings, so there’s plenty of stories to come for the Mitchell family, and I cannot wait for more!

This is a really great read. It’s fun and sweet with so much passion and whole lot of heart, and I loved it!

4.5 stars.

A RARE AND TOUCHING LOVE STORY

“The trouble with wanting something you know you can’t have. Because even if we could make it real … eventually … the relationship would sour, grow cold … and I’d be left behind to pick up the pieces.” ~~ Ruby Rae Roberts

This feel-good romance was a breath of fresh air – a short vacay fling that turns into a beautiful and insightful exploration of real love between the last two people imaginable. The meet-cute of strangers on a plane is one of my jams, and the tender romance that transpired touched me personally. It was sweet ~~ consuming ~~ gentle ~~ and perfectly orchestrated. They “get” and nurture each other so credibly. The gentleness was ALMOST boring and made me consider DNFing, but couldn’t bring myself to do so. I NEEDED to know how the romance played out to the very end, and am so glad I did – although this type of slow-moving, perfect romance doesn’t typically rock my boat. It was more like a rare treat that was read on a whim, but touched my soul with a sweetly meaningful and profound affirmation of true love.

“A man kind of man … this beautiful man I’ve just met on my very first plane ride”

Massage therapist RUBY RAE ROBERTS (24 has been abandoned by men all her life, starting with her estranged father. It’s left her scarred such that she never wants to be a burden or inconvenience to anyone. Bubbling with life, kindness and happiness, she’s a spirited, beautiful contradiction. Open to all that life offers despite her fears, yet always conscious of being a nuisance who might overstay her welcome. So lovable, and yet my heart broke for the incredible girl who never wants to impose, but has so much to give -- always with a smile on her face and making others feel comfortable. She never complains. Just a girl so profound and special that she can’t see it in her herself, while trying to navigate the unspoken feelings and reactions that happen in relationships.

Ruby wants closure with her dad and is on a secret cross-country trip to California to meet him and his family. She’s terrified, but hopeful, and winds up seatmates with fellow Bostonian Boyd Mitchell (29), a successful tech guy. Two mismatched souls. She’s an endearing chatterbox way outside her comfort zone and he’s a standoffish, self-proclaimed introvert with particular, controlling behaviors that keep most people at arm’s length. Ruby chatting him up on the plane makes his teeth grind until … “her ridiculous laugh and silly ramblings and smile that makes [him] unable to do anything but smile back.” He never believed in soul mates until she magically appeared in his life. They click DEEPLY. Complete opposites in every way, but perfect for each other.

It was kismet that they both wind up in the same resort lake town where Boyd’s family is a big deal and lives across the lake from Ruby’s dad. The reunion with her dad is not as expected, feeding Ruby's insecurities. The welcoming Mitchell family is there to pick up the slack and the story revolves around the evolution of romance while Ruby’s vacay takes a completely different turn with a surrogate family. There are lessons learned, truths she never knew, and the beauty of two souls truly exploring each other – especially how they transform each other and Boyd shows her in every way what true love and caring really mean, and that not every man in her life will abandon her. Every woman should swoon at their lovemaking and how Boyd handles her inability to have a big “O”. They are true game-changers for each other, and she loves he doesn’t play games (so did I), as they fast become the ports in each other’s storms. “There are always storms, but love is about how you weather them together.”

Generally the story has a very slow roll, like gently lapping waves. That was okay until about 80% because they both clearly love each other and it was a beautiful bonding experience to witness. I got a bit antsy with so much embellishment of the Mitchell family (clearly this will be a series). Still, the ending was a foregone conclusion that felt anti-climactic even with added artificial drama that tears them apart before bringing them back together. While the ending very much fit Ruby’s personality and Boyd's grand gesture, the story was too low-key overall for me to give it 5 stars, but I enjoyed it immensely in many ways. It struck an emotional chord with me and made me believe in soul mates, too.

“I’m glad you came to me. You can always come to me” ~~ Boyd

I loved this book up until the last 10% when I just didn’t understand how a couple who had been communicating so openly just shut down.

I loved the humor in this book and the refreshingly unique dialogue. The only thing that bothered me was that the farther the story went along, Boyd became more of a caricature of what a woman wants an ideal man to be - from the slightly unrealistic way that he just “got” Ruby’s problems and knew exactly what to say or do at all times, never once made a mistake - it began to feel too fantastical and lacking in real human emotional responses.

But there was just something so beautiful and sweet about this story that makes me want to read more from this author to see how her writing evolves.

A meeting between two strangers on a plane heading towards the west coast with different agendas. Opposites of each other though there is something brewing between Ruby and Boyd. Ruby, sort of free spirit, loving, happy, chatterbox is quite likeable, and while normally Boyd wouldn't interact with anyone like that especially on a plane, but there is just something about Ruby that pulls him out of his grumpy shell. These two ended up surprisingly in the same lake town, Boyd heading to his annual family reunion and Ruby is meeting up with the dad that left her behind years ago.

I really loved these characters and Boyd's family. He has a wonderful family, and the love between him and his siblings was so comical, fun and sweet. Ruby was such a strong character and I enjoyed the way she saw situations and voiced her opinions. Meeting her dad doesn't go as planned, and I could literally feel her disappointment, inner battles, and frustrations with her dad. She has had so much disappoint in her life, add this to the pile. But Boyd is becoming promising. The chemistry between these two was so apparent. Boyd is the perfect guy for Ruby, so sweet, attentive, loving. I am hoping the rest of the siblings get their HEA!!! I love love this story and definitely recommend it.

oh my gosh. I absolutely adored this. I LOVED THIS. This was so beautiful and I’m someone who isn’t fond of insta-love or super quick love. This story develops in the span of TWO WEEKS. And it was so fcking amazing. I’m actually sad this is over. This was a very soothing love story. It feels slow, but I honestly enjoyed this sweet and calm ride a lot.

Ruby
She was lovely. She had so many facets and layers! When I met her, I was smiling. She was a ray of light and I had so much fun with her. When we started to know her and learn her depth, I was so impressed by how human she seemed. I know she is a human, but she passed that thin line between seeing someone as a character and a person. She’s definitely real to me. Her fears and insecurities were real. I appreciated the fact that she didn’t let anyone step on her and put those people in their place. I just fell in love with her. It was so easy to do so. Her intimacy issue was so new to me. Well, no. I’ve read about that before, but this time it was dealt with in such a REAL way. She really grew in the story and I loved her two-week journey.

Boyd
What. A. Man. This, ladies and gentlemen, is a MAN. He had NO issues being honest and upfront. He also surprised me A LOT. By how we meet him at the beginning, I thought he was going to be this broody, moody but sweet guy. But nope. He was just sweet. He was funny and nice and lovely. He was so selfless. I absolutely adored him and fell HARD for him. It wasn’t instant, but I fell for him alongside Ruby. Cause he just kept bringing and giving me more reasons to love him. He wasn’t as complex as Ruby. He was a simple man who knew what he wanted, didn’t try to rush things and was just letting things fly at their own speed. It was so calming. His mind was so calm. He was just going through life, enjoying every step. He was perfect for Ruby. I want someone like him. I hope someday I find someone like him.

Conflict
I was worried about this. Cause I was loving the book and I didn’t want it to disappoint me with something silly. Even though, it wasn’t this HUGE heartbreaking conflict, it had just the perfect amount of angst. It made so much sense and it validated every single thing we had learned about them both. The issue with Ruby’s dad (I’m counting it as a minor conflict) was so well resolved. Like, the way Ruby told him all of her mind? YES OMG YES. I was so happy for her while hurting for her, too.

Other people
Mitchell family. I can NOT wait to read every Mitchell book. I fell in love with their hometown and with the family. We don’t really see the dad that much, but everyone else? Perfect.

I swear to god I can’t find anything wrong with this. This had every bit of magic that comes along a small-town and big family romance. It felt nostalgic. At the beginning it was a bit overwhelming the way EVERYTHING was so well described and the drop of information we got every few dialogues, but I got used to it and actually enjoyed it a lot. It’s amazing how everything really came to life.

This is my first Jillian Liota book and it’s definitely NOT gonna be my last. This was amazing and I’m in love with this book. It’s not like revolutionary or shit, but it was just so well written. I’ve seen this story before, but at the same time it felt new. This is very heavily character driven and I’m glad. I got to know the depth and layers in these people had and it was my pleasure. I’m so glad I picked this book.

A quote I really liked:

“I’m not saying real love hurts you,” my mom says. “I’m saying the world hurts you. Life hurts you. People hurt you. Real love, though? Real love soothes you, wraps you up and protects you. The crying isn’t because someone who loves you has hurt you. It’s because you’ve been hurt, and the person who loves you was there for you. The crying is knowing you have someone precious, and you never, ever, ever want to let them go.”

And this one, too:

“Like his mother said, nobody is perfect. But that doesn’t mean they can’t be perfect for me.”

P.S. Read the extended epilogue, it was beautiful!!!😭❤️

Ruby and Boyd have a great meet cute to get this story started. Boyd is flying home for his family's usual end of summer get together at his family home. Ruby is flying for the first time in her life, and she is going to see her father, who she hasn't seen since she was younger after he abandoned her and her mother. Ruby also hasn't told her mom where she's actually going or her plans. Boyd and Ruby both get bumped up to first class and are neighbors on the plane. Boyd likes to keep to himself, and he isn't normally fond of conversations in general, let along strangers. Ruby is the complete opposite, and she tries to bring Boyd out of his shell during the flight. Boyd does enjoy talking to Ruby, but they ultimately both fall asleep on the plane. Ruby wakes up to find Boyd has left her without saying goodbye. However, she finds a note from him with his phone number with a note to call him. Ruby arrives at her dad's house and discovers that her dad left on a business trip and won't be returning for a few days. His wife is not thrilled about Ruby being in town, and she regulates Ruby to their guesthouse. Ruby decides to text Boyd since she now has nothing to do and is in a place she doesn't know. As Boyd and Ruby get to talking, they discover that they are not only in the same small town, but that Boyd's family's home is on the same lake and very close to where Ruby is staying. After this discovery, the story really takes off from there. Ruby spends time with Boyd that same night and they both realize that the connection to each other that they felt on the plane is definitely worth exploring. Boyd is ready to be all in as he gets to know Ruby more and more, but Ruby isn't as sure. She struggles with the knowledge that Boyd truly wants to spend time with her, but she's willing to see where this adventure takes her with Boyd.

Everything is going pretty well until she finally gets to sit down to dinner with her dad and his wife. Ruby receives some very shocking news about her mother and all of the aspects of her father's abandonment. This leads her to question everything that is going good with Boyd. It makes her realize her feelings for him and the power he has to hurt her. To Boyd, everything is going great until Ruby breaks things off as she breaks things off with him before going home. Boyd is confused and learns where Ruby's fear is coming from. However, he is unsure what to do about showing Ruby he is in it for the long haul.

This story was very good and I really loved Ruby and Boyd (and his very large family!). I could completely feel Ruby's hurt and understand the root to all her insecurities and pain. Jillian Liota always does this so well, and she always makes it easy to connect to her characters. Ruby learns to speak up during uncomfortable times and has a really great moment of speaking up to her dad. It was great to see! It was nice to see Boyd come out of his shell and the love that he has for his family and Ruby.

I am excited to see this new series goes, and I am completely intrigued to find out Briar's (Boyd's sister) story. This is a wonderful story that makes you appreciate family and understand that people are not perfect. I also liked that this book reminded me of summertime through this small town. I read this book in one sitting, and I definitely stayed up way too late in order to find out what happened to Boyd and Ruby!!

The Trouble with Wanting
the start of anew series by Jillian Liota. A new small town series that any romance lover will enjoy. This is the love story of Ruby and Boyd. Who start as strangers sitting next to each other on an airplane and end up friending friendship between them and so much more.

"I wasn't expecting you," he whispers. I nuzzle my face into that strong hand, knowing exactly what he means. I wasn't expecting him either.

Can I be adopted into the Mitchell family please ? Because even though they aren't perfect, and they fight and argue they are so real and you never doubt how much they all love each other. Growing up in such a big in your face family, Boyd is a reserved/closed off person and Ruby completely rips him out of his comfort zone. With her he is an absolute sweetheart, charming and just completely swoon worthy. Top book boyfriend material ! Ruby is a whole lot of energy and positivity packed in one person, Boyd never stood a chance lol She rambles, she's positive, kind-hearted, honest and doesn't have much of a filter. Boyd not only helps her face the less than positive drama going on in her life but shows her that she's worth loving and in returns she softens up his hard edges.

"When it comes to you, Ruby Rae Roberts, the last thing I want to do is play fair?
"And why is that?" [...]
"Because I'd rather play dirty."

The Trouble with Wanting
is a fast paced romance. It's insta lovey in the way that once you found your soul mate you just know. They each know only after a day or two that they have found their person. But realistic the characters don't try to rush what they have found, and they build a relationship where they openly talk to each other, are playful, flirty and have fun. In the end, for the reader, it felt like they had known each other for so much longer than they had.

"Boyd is very quickly becoming my safe space, a point of refuge in the storm of life."

Overall, The Trouble with Wanting by Jillian is a heart-warming small town romance that introduces you to a literary family you'll fall in love with. I am already looking forward to the next book

The instant meet cute these characters have drew me in right away and I could not stop reading until it was finished. It’s a book you want to read nonstop but don’t want it to end at the same time because the characters are so amazing. We start with Ruby and Boyd meeting flying out west they strike up a conversation, well Ruby does, and they find themselves attracted to each other but when they land they go separate ways and all Ruby is left with is a phone number. The coincidence is just so sweet and I found myself smiling so much at how well they fit together even if they were total opposites. I felt so sad for Ruby because she carried so much on her shoulders, was just looking for answers, and why she felt so unlovable. Boyd was a strong silent type that worked, kept to himself, but had this amazing family dynamic. Boyd’s family were amazing and just like Ruby I felt myself wanting to be part of their clan. Yea they annoyed each other, fought, but they loved each other hard and was there for each other always. The author has created another fantastic read that draws the reader in, makes you laugh, cry, and feel part of a loving family you don’t want to let go. Can’t wait for more!!

I read through this book in less than 2 days, I just couldn't put it down!! It's full of romance and desire, but not in a super dirty way. It's like a chick flick in a book format and it touches on quite a few topics that can be sensitive for some, but all discussed realistically. I know these are fiction, but with this book it felt very real! Also, I'm not sure why, but whenever reading Boyd's sister Bellamy's lines, I heard Alexis's voice from Schitt's Creek!!

This story is a slow burn story that follows Ruby and Boyd as they meet on an airplane then realize that they are staying in the same town.

While I was frustrated with Ruby a few times within the book, I ultimately loved her and all the characters. Boyd and his family are amazing, and the way they include Ruby made this story extra special given how Ruby grew up and the obstacles she was facing on her trip in Cedar Point.

If you are looking for a story with a stand-up guy, then this book is for you. Boyd is definitely swoon worthy.

Boyd and Ruby meet while on a plane to California. Ruby has never flown before and talks a lot. Boyd likes to be left alone. Their unique trip and random meeting up again make a great storyline. Do you believe in fate and how things happen the way they're supposed to? Then this is the story for you. The character development, the storyline, everything is just perfect! Loved this story!

SOOOOO SLOOOOOOOOW.

It’s super cute, but I was nodding off the entire time. It’s VERY friends to lovers. So there’s not much tension or conflict. They’re happily in like with each other the whole time. Still a good read I’m just a friends to lovers hater and that was my own mistake.

I received an ARC from the author and I am happy to give my honest review.

I'm a bit of a Jillian Liota fangirl. I really love all of her books and this one was no different. I'm excited to start a new series with her and learn about the shenanigans of the Mitchell family. This was a small town romance but didn't feel cheap or sugary like they can be sometimes.

Boyd is the oldest Mitchell kid and a 29 year old professional and introvert. He is flying from Boston to California to spend two weeks with his family. His seatmate is Ruby, a bubbly and rambly massage therapist also from Boston who is also going to California. She gets him out of his shell and they have a nice conversation. Then she falls asleep and thinks she'll never see him again.

Surprise, they're both in Cedar Point. Ruby is coming to visit her dad who abandoned her when she was a child. Her dad is also Boy'd neighbor and has unexpectedly left on a business trip. Ruby and Boyd spend the first week together hanging out and getting to know each other. One of my favorite things about this book was how well Ruby stood up for herself. At one point Boyd's old friend tries to make him jealous by flirting with Ruby. She shuts him down and said pretty much "I don't appreciate you acting this way." Yes, queen!

The angst was really more situational than a "big misunderstanding." The two fell in love quickly but they also spent like every hour together for 2 weeks so it wasn't entirely unbelievable. I really loved Boyd's mom and how sweet she was to Ruby, this woman who showed up on her doorstep with no preamble. She was the mom that Ruby needed while on this very emotional trip.

Overall, this book is a winner and one of my favorites I've read recently. Boyd and Ruby are flawed but fit against each other so well. The emotions of meeting an estranged dad, dealing with pushy siblings, and prioritizing time to spend with family was very well done. This book made me yearn for a summer trip on the lake and I can't wait to see what's in store for the rest of the family. Also - don't forget to download the extended epilogue from Jillian's website.

“𝐈’𝐦 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐑𝐮𝐛𝐲 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐦𝐞 𝐬𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐥𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐡. 𝐁𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐞’𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐝. 𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐦𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐝”

Standing at 6’4, Boyd is a take charge, live by the book type of guy. He travels quite a bit for work and has a few cardinal rules he abides by while flying. Those rules are quickly shot to shit whenever the radiantly beautiful, Ruby, sits next to him. From there on out she has him enamored, completely transfixed by her wide smile and incandescent personality.

Ruby has the most bubbly personality. She’s always seeing the good in every situation but she knows how to stand up for herself when the need arises. She is always giving everyone the benefit of the doubt despite how she’s been previously treated. She is terrified of being a burden on anyone in her life and sometimes she needs that extra push in the right direction.

Boyd pushes Ruby to open up her heart and let her mind relax. He proves his love for her in sweet gestures and unbelievably kind words. He shows Ruby the type of love she deserves, which ends up being something she has never received.

Every time I read a dark romance, I want to read something sweet right after. The Trouble With wanting was that something sweet and it blew my expectations clear out of the water. This is my first book by Jillian Liota and it most definitely will not be my last. Her writing style keeps you intrigued, in fact I never wanted to put this book down. And if I did, all I could think about was picking up right where I left off.

This is my first book from Jillian Liota and it was exactly what I LOVE to read. give me small town romance with a family series and I'm almost always going to get hooked!

I really loved this story and I like how they met by chance but you knew they were soul mates. Insta-love books are a hit or miss for me you need to make it believable for me to really enjoy it and this was a great one.

Boyd really went against everything he thought and he believed for Ruby right when he met her all his preconceived notions went out the window and his whole purpose was being there for her.

There was another aspect in this book that I found really new in romance novels and it was the struggles some women have with the bedroom. It was a great representation for those who struggle with that, it really showed that intimacy's comes in all different ways and not just physical i really appreciated that.

I love to find new to me authors and small town series about siblings!!

Cedar Point gave me all the Laura Pavlov vibes!

Ruby is going to the small town to meet the father that abandoned her. She meets a man on the plane, whose hometown is cedar point and he’s visiting family. Ruby opens up to him on the plane. She falls asleep and he left his phone number. They find they are staying right across the lake from each other. Ruby’s dad flaked so her evil stepmother is keeping her in the guest house. Ruby takes the opportunity to get to know the entire Mitchell clan and see if she and Boyd can be anything more.

Boyd was such a great character! Always wanting Ruby to feel she was never a burden and always wanted! Ruby got a little annoying but her journey with learning the truth of her father and letting it go kept my interest!

So excited to delve into this series more! Definitely recommend!

Another great book by one of my favorite authors! Jillian Liota just understands how to write women who set boundaries, stand up for themselves and work through problems in realistic and mature ways. So many times we see authors just make huge leaps to conclusions but Jillian really works through them. It’s like parts lusty slow burn and parts therapy/interpersonal communication class. Is Jillian Liota my wife, yes, she is. Do we have great communication skills that makes our relationship amazing, again yes. She pours herself into these books and creates positive relationships that can inspire and be used practically. Would I be in the dog house for anything less than a 5 star review, probably. Lucky for me this is her best beach read and I’m super proud of what’s she’s created in the lovable fun town of Cedar Point and it’s intriguing residents. 5 stars - I was given a free copy for an honest husband’s review.

The story was a bit predictable with the typical third act break-up, but it was cute enough to where I’ll keep reading through the series. Ruby was a bit annoying at first, but she grew on me, especially as she confronted people about how they were treating her. Boyd’s family gave me “Cheaper by the Dozen” vibes and I love how welcoming they were toward Ruby. Boyd’s character development was a bit confusing in the first half of the book - it was a little like the author didn’t really know how she wanted to portray him - but by the second half, things evened out. Overall, it was a quick and easy read about a small town romance where opposites attract.

5 stars!!!

Honestly, there was not a single part of this book that I didn’t enjoy!

The entire story was so emotional, but at the same time playful and fun. With each heartbreaking moment, there came many more exhilarating and captivating ones! A well rounded story about finding love when and where you least expect it!

Ruby, the heroine, was completely infectious! Her personality was unique and quirky and it absolutely worked for this story! She fit right into the Mitchell crew as if she’d grown up around them her whole life. Small town life really looked good on her!

Boyd, the hero, was a bucket of swoon. A little gruff, a little standoffish but when he warmed up and opened his heart, oh wow did I get all the heart eyes and weak knees! He was so protective of his family, always looking out for them even when they got on his nerves. But when it came to the opposite sex, somehow he’d always managed to keep them at arm’s length.

This book was a tantalizing slow burn! The sexual chemistry between the main characters was undeniable, yet they found a way to take things slow and get to know one another on their short duration trip. They proved that a connection can be much deeper than just a physical attraction, if you’re willing to let down your walls and allow someone to see your raw and honest feelings. I loved that the characters took the time to get to know one another and spend quality time in each other’s presence. Their little adventures just added to excitement of the story. Boyd’s willingness to take things slow with Ruby and show her what she’d been missing in her past relationships proved what an incredibly compassionate and patient companion he was.

The entire storyline around Ruby’s upbringing, her father and his family was heartbreaking! But she handled it with grace and a backbone of steel! I was so incredibly proud of the way her character spoke her mind and didn’t allow anyone to belittle her or make her feel unwanted.

I actually enjoyed the suspense near the end of the story! It added some much needed honesty and reflection. I think everything played out just the way it needed to and nothing was left unresolved. The extended epilogue the author provided was also incredible, so be sure to check that out!!!!

The Trouble with Wanting is a perfect summer read. It takes place in a picturesque lake town where everyone is considered family. It’s an ideal place to escape to.

Boyd is absolutely a dream. He’s super patient, understanding, kind, and sensitive. I love that he’s such a caring brother, especially in that scene with Briar. And the lip biting! So sexy! Do men this perfect even exist in real life? Part of me wants to hate Ruby for getting so lucky, but I can’t because she’s freaking incredible, too!

Ruby is someone I definitely admire. She isn’t afraid to tell it like it is and she doesn’t hesitate to stand up for herself or others. I love that she cusses more than the guys. And that she’s proud to say that she enjoys casual hookups. Ruby reminds me a lot of one of my good friends: super chatty, but also genuinely interested in what others have to say. She’s the kind of person you feel comfortable sharing things with. No wonder Boyd couldn’t resist her.

Their relationship had such a solid foundation of friendship that I adored. And their kisses, wow! Jillian Liota definitely has a talent for writing kissing scenes that are so steamy, I look forward to them just as much as the love scenes. This book was romantic in a way that’s sweet and raw and real. What’s not to love?

This book is the perfect escape into a page-turning summer romance. Jillian has an incredible way of knowing and writing her characters from their innermost being. Ruby's biggest fears and core beliefs build until they come to light in emotional, raw, and authentic exchanges with Boyd. Ruby's self-awareness is so authentic that you feel like she's actually talking to you in this book. She is vulnerable in a strong and brave way, and it is so easy to fall in love with their love story! This book will melt your stresses away, renew your faith in love, and fill you with all the warm fuzzies. In a word: bliss. Definitely Jillian's best work yet!

I loved this book! Ruby and Boyd meet in a plane. Ruby to see the father who abandoned her and Boyd is spending two weeks with his large and loving family. By chance they end up in the same town, across the lake from each other. Ruby's an amazing heroine who wants to see the best in people and thinks everyone deserves second and third chances. She is so outgoing, I don't think she has ever met a stranger. Boyd is quiet and introverted, but when he loves, he loves big. His family is awesome and you can tell they love each other. I loved how these two were open to seeing what might be between them even though they were unsure and questioning themselves along the way. They communicated for the most part and I loved that. I felt for Ruby, and hated how her father and Linda acted. They were truly out of sight, out of mind people. All Ruby wanted was a family and I'm so glad she got it. The story is sweet and steamy with great writing and awesome characters. This author has quickly become a favorite of mine. I was given the opportunity to read a copy of this book.

I absolutely loved this book!

Ruby and Boyd were so great together and separate. Ruby just wanted a family. After what happened, I don't blame her. She's got an outgoing personality while Boyd would rather keep to himself. They made an awesome match. I really enjoyed the other characters too. This was a great start to a series and I can wait to see what else Jillian gives us!
