Xavier

Rate this book
What happens when a prissy, stuck up princess makes you an offer you can’t refuse?
She needs a boyfriend.
He needs the money.
But even the best-laid plans go astray when feelings get involved.

CHARLIE
Xavier is a first-class asshole.
He uses his fist instead of his words.
He’s rude and emotionless.
And he couldn’t be any more perfect.

My plan is pretty simple.
Use Xavier to get what I want from my father.
Do my internship then leave for college.
I was ready for it all.
All, but the broken heart.

XAVIER
Charlie is infuriating.
She doesn’t stop talking.
She’s intrusive.
But I needed the money to save my brother’s life.

Over time public appearances became private dates.
Small talk turned into deep conversations.
Lines got crossed.
Feelings got hurt.
Someone broke rule number five.
Don’t fall in love.

~Charlotte "Charlie" and Xavier~
Charlie is a meticulous person. She likes planning everything down to a T, but her plan for an internship in her father's office is gone since her father gives it to someone else.
In a big scheme of rebellion, she chooses to pay Xavier some money to pretend to be her boyfriend and act like an a**hole towards her father.
What doesn't into Charlie's count is how fast she falls for Xavier.
Xavier doesn't lead an easy life since he was a kid.
Now, he gets on a hockey scholarship for his college, but his past still haunting him.
He dislikes Charlie at first, finds her annoying even more.
However, Charlie manages to sneak her way into Xavier's heart and refuse to leave.

Their relationship is so sweet and cute. They may start as a fake boyfriend/girlfriend yet their action towards each other is anything but fake. They truly care for each other.
I like how the story progressed, Xavier can open his heart to someone and realizes that he deserves to be loved and receive love.
The end is so perfect for them.

This was my first read by this author, and I'm just blown away by how amazing it was!!! I adore the fake relationship trope, and this had ALL the feels!!

Charlie got snubbed over for a position at the law firm by her own father, so she has a plan to get him back and make him equally pissed. This is where Xavier comes in! Xavier and his brother were severely abused, which turned him into the broody, sometimes angry man he is today. But the more time he spends with Charlie, the more he realizes how much she mellows him out and just makes him so happy. They are opposites in almost every way, but they just *fit* together so well!! And that ending was just so perfect!!

This was such an entertaining read and I can't wait for more books from this amazing author!!

**I received an ARC of this book and these are my honest opinions!!**

Young Adult/New Adult, Sweet, Contemporary Romance, Sports

First Person, Dual-POV

This is a standalone with HEA.

Even though this is a sweet, clean romance, it contains issues and situations some may find triggering, such as drug usage and child abuse.

Cute, sweet romance, with adorable characters that made this quite an addictive love story!!!

Being a mother of three young adults/new adults has made me really fond of this trope in romance books. I love to find glimpses of my children on characters and I have to say, Xavier and Charlie gave me these good feelings. They were adorable and very easy to relate.

Sweet romance!!!

30/35 STARS –  4 STARS (between 28 stars and 31 stars)

Addictiveness: 5 Character: 5 Cover: 4 Freshness: 3.5 Plot: 4 Romance: 4.5 Writing Style: 4.5

Action 3/5 Angst 3/5 Darkness 0/5 Humor 3/5 Romance 5/5 Suspense/Mystery 0/5

Would I recommend? Yes, for all readers of cute, young adult/new adult romance!

Would I re-read this book/series? I think so!

Would I read more from the author? Yes.

Addictiveness: 5/5 This story hooked me from the beginning and I read this book in one sitting. As addictive as chocolate!!!

Character: hero 5/5, heroine 5/5, secondary characters 5/5, growth 5/5, real 5/5 Complex characters with depth to their backstory and great personal growth throughout the book.

Charlie was a breath of fresh air. Really, she was such a great female character. She was sweet, hard working, a great daughter and friend. It was so refreshing to read about a rich girl that was not a little diva. She was never looking for love and it was cute how love found her nonetheless.

Xavier was dreamy. He had a rough beginning, but truly made something of himself. He was a bit of a jerk, and had a few too-stupid-to-live moments, but what teenage haven't had these? In fact, he turned out to be a romantic boyfriend. I loved how he grew along the story and his struggles and reactions felt pretty real and believable. Oh, he was really hot too!

Secondary characters I love the parents here, of course with one exception. Alex, Mandy, Charlie's mom... so many characters that I would love to read more about.

Villain/antagonists there were a few antagonists here in the subplots, but I believe that the main conflict was all personal struggles, part of growing up.

They were all so easy to love, connect and understand!!!

Cover: art 4/5, title 5/5, color-font 5/5, subtitle 0/5, background 5/5 buy 4/5  I’m obsessed with book covers. I love to find snippets of the stories within the art. I always try to be true to myself, I buy so many books because of the cover and I have skipped many because of not very appealing art. Covers are part of the experience for me and I do like to understand them. This one was a bit generic. Even though I can see Xavier in this picture, I missed a few personal touches that connected the cover to the story, like a subtitle or something more in the art. I really liked the title, such a powerful name and the colors used also worked. I would probably buy this book by its cover without needing to read the blurb!

Plot: believable 5/5, conflict 4.5/5, dialogue 5/5, ending 5/5, enjoyment 4.5/5, opening 4.5/5, pace 3.5/5, setting 5/5, subplots 5/5, twists 3/5  Great opening with an incredible ending. Good plot, with well written dialogues and ok pace. Great setting, amazing subplots with not any major twist. Great level of enjoyment!

Even though it was a bit predictable and it had no major twist, the plot was strong and very well supported by some great subplots. The ending was cute and sweet. I loved the banter between characters, the dialogues were sometimes fun, other times sweet and many times emotional.

Romance: believable 5/5, chemistry 5/5, description 3.5/5, development 4.5/5, steam 2/5  Oh.... this was so so so adorable! This was a slow burn, quite young romance that gave "good feels". I love dark romance, and to fall completely in love with such a clean, sweet romance it was because it really resonated with me and it felt real and believable. Enchanted love!!!

Writing Style: 4/5 This was my first book by the author and I'm really looking forward to see what else she will bring. This story had strong plot, with easy-to-love characters and captivating romance. The editing was really clean and overall the plot was cohesive. Really good writing!!!

Because I try to be very analytical and I don't really believe in perfection...

Freshness: 3.5/5 It was a bit predictable and it didn't had any huge surprise, but I like a love story and the usual clichés always work for me. :) As fresh as cold lemonade!!!

You MAY read this because you follow the author; you SHOULD read this because you like cute romance; you MUST read this because this because of the wonderful, multifaceted characters!!!

I enjoyed this one! I finished it in one sitting, curious to see what's going to happen to Charlie and Xavier. I think this one is an easy read, even though there's talks about child abuse.

Xavier had to grow up with abusive parents. That's also the reason why Xavier is a broody guy. However, he got lucky he got adopted to a great adoptive parents. He get a better life, but that's not the case for his brother. Every time Damien gets into trouble, he's the one who got him out of it. That's how he ended up fake dating the hotshot lawyer's daughter, Charlie.

Charlie live a pampered life. She get everything she dream of. There's one thing left which is to intern at her dad's firm. When she found out her dad had given it to someone else, she's thinking of ways to pissed her dad. What better way to do that than date a guy he wouldn't approve of. Rules are in place, she just hoped the lines wouldnt' blur.

I like Charlie's character because she's so down to earth and nice and her mom is too. I like how she just bulldozed into Xavier's life and he actually let her too. It felt too easy for them. I just loved the two of them together.

Charlie has a goal, which was to intern at her father's law firm, but he did her wrong by giving it to her cousin. Now Charlie comes up with a plan of a fake boyfriend who will upset her father, which is where Xavier comes in at. Xavier & brother were severely abused by their parents who are now in jail, so they ended up in the foster system. He's doing everything he can to take care of them, but there's only so much he can do. He needs money badly which is why he took Charlie up on her offer to play pretend. As they do this thing, they start spending more & more time together, and all of a sudden, that fake line starts getting blurry. Xavier was a story that pulled me in quickly, and I read it in one sitting. To see how this all plays out, hit your one click buttons! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Charlie has led a pampered life and her dream is an internship at her dad’s law firm, which he gave to her cousin instead. Xavier has had a tough life with him and his brother going through the foster system after his abusive parents were sent to jail. Charlie tutors Xavier’s younger brother, and when she approaches him with an offer, he cannot refuse he jumps at the chance for the money. Although these two are total opposite when the cards are down and feeling change, they are perfect for each other. This is a well written story which is intriguing, and I was hooked from this very beginning. I look forward to reading more from this author and I recommend this for all.

Enter Xavier one of the kids Charlie tutors older brother, Xavier has had a hard life abused by his parents physically him and his brother Alex are put into foster care after his parents are sent to prison. This book is honestly just the sweetest story. It was my first read by Leila Lucas and I absolutely loved it.

Xavier stole my heart. His childhood story is heartbreaking but he got himself the best family and is just a genuine nice guy. Charlie is nerdy, hilarious and completely relatable.

Everything about this books is spot on...the pace, the writing, the characters and the story.

It was good, there were some plot gaps and time jumps and random tidbits that almost came out of nowhere which is why I don’t rate it so high. Also if you do consider it enemies to lovers, it’s not a slow burn it’s pretty quick that hate turns to love.
