He’s prideful, rich, and next in line to be king of the eagles.
She’s an eensy bit prejudiced, and a lot rock and roll.
What these two City of Angels’ supernaturals are about to discover is that there is so much more to a person than what meets the eye.

Eagle Fitzwilliam Ambustus is controlled, precise, and direct. He doesn’t have the time nor the emotional wherewithal to be anything other than who he is. Others think him cold and unfeeling, but that’s just the surface. Beneath his suits, he is so much more.

Elizabeth Argueta is a free spirit. She’s a rock and roll, go-with-my-flow drummer on a mission to live life to the beat of her own drum. And most importantly, she’s got a view of the world that sets her firmly apart from the rich and the clingy of the L.A. scene.

When these two meet, it might be sparks-at-first-sight, but they’ll have to get over their pride and their prejudice to not only overcome those trying to keep them apart but also to understand and come to love each other ... just as they are.

Note: The first book in the Shifter Kings L.A. series is short, sassy, sexy, shift-tastic, and a whole lot of rock and roll … with a little Pride and Prejudice thrown in.

That was such a refreshing read.

Eagle is rigid, everything in his world is ordered, nothing out of place.
Manages a band (I was surprised, thought him more of a tall office building millionaire) just waiting till it’s his turn to rule. He’s going to do things different.

Iz, Izzy, (Elizabeth to other people not family) beats out a rhythm on whatever is to hand.
She’s a Dabbler witch, she suppresses it for most of the time.
A free spirt with a wicked sense of humour.

The hierarchy of L.A is fascinating especially the witches ..... The Queens are at the top, then their families, then the elements (air, water) Judges, charisma, siphons, scholars, and then the lowest Dabblers, they are the witches that can do it all, but not well.

I love Elizabeth, such a free spirit, nothing much gets her down. She comes from a loving family, has a close knit of friends, and gets to jam with friends, what’s not to love? Her look on life “the haves” these are people who are poor, but they are rich in love, family and (have a rich life) “the have-nots” these are the rich, they only have artificial friends and empty lives, and the “clingers” these are the people who cling to the rich!!

I took a while to warm up to Eagle, his past was littered with brutal beatings and vicious put downs. His father the king was literally a beast!! So I could see why he was so rigid. I was surprised he was friends with the band he manages (I thought he’d be too uptight for musicians) his wanting to bring his family and people up to date, but in a kinder way had me smiling. He’s totally opposite of his tyrant of a father/king.

They first meet in the street, she’s playing with friends (bongo drums) they see each other, both swear there is a connection, but neither go for it.

We also have the never ending debate on wether shifters should come out to the world. Eagle is a firm believer that they should stay hidden. I’m sure it’s going to be an ongoing debate.

It’s well written, flows at a steady pace. I love the formal way Eagle talks, the intense emotions that both pull from each other. Your hoping that Eagle gets his Queen

I have a inkling it’s a spin off from the previous series (Shifter Kings Nashville) I don’t think it’s going to matter if you haven’t read the previous series.
But I’m interested now, I might have to go back and read 😉

Short story but packed with lots going on.

The Shifter Kings move to LA, Loved Eagle and Elizabeth
Eagle is the heir to the Eagle King, his rein soon to begin. His father, the current king, sadistic streak came out after the death of his mate. Eagle is is favorite target. Public floggings in front of their people, even better if his younger sister is present, his favorite form of abuse. The scars, from being forced to not shift an ever present reminder. The transition has started. The Nashville Kings are looking for their mates. Soon another territory will have their chance. Eagle just has to hold out until it is his and his friends turn. Then he can make the changes to better his people. He vows to be a better father than his own. He gets through with a stoic iron will and the support of his best friends and fellow kings, adopted brother Grizz, Snake and Nashville transplant Heavy.
Elizabeth is a Dabble witch with the mark of a shifter queen. Dabbler's are able to use any of the other 12 houses witch's powers, though are masters of none. Her passions are her job as a councilor to at risk and troubled children, and music. A street performer, she lets everything go through her drums. She is one of the "Haves" a roof over he head, food to eat, a job she loves and friends and family.
Eagle and Elizabeth meet by chance while she she is preforming. Elizabeth is not a suit and tie girl, she sees them as "Have Nots" or "Clingers" but something about this suit calls to her.
They meet again when she auditions for Shyfter, the band he manages, made up of his fellow Kings. He snubs her. His best friends adore her and make her their new drummer. He can no longer deny his attraction to Elizabeth when she stands against his father. When she protects him and declares she will be his queen. Eagles have always been mated to Eagle queens. He feels nothing for the queen of his people and everything for Elizabeth.
Loved Eagle and Elizabeth, Izzy to everyone else, story. She has also has ties to Nashville. She cousins and best friends are also queen marked. Looking forward to Grizz, Snake and Heavy's story. Want to know more about the Irish cousins, Kyle, Timmy and Jay. Great series and reads fine as a stand alone, don't have to have read the Nashville Kings to follow the story.

This story revolves around Elizabeth, (Izzy/Iz to her friends) a ‘Dabbler’ witch. This means that she has the ability to ‘dabble’ with any of the different types of magic available...jack of all trades, master of none. Each witch has to find a release and Izzy’s is through music. She is a talented drummer who busks with a bongo and three other musical witches, once a week, in between applying for different drummer positions. This is how she meets four shifter kings, including one that she was drawn to when he walked past her as she played on the street. He stopped in his tracks as he too could feel the attraction, but he’s been promised to a fellow shifter. When things don’t start going to plan within their shifter kingdom of L.A., Eagle the shifter concerned, decides to get to know Izzy better. This is a different type of shifter novel, where the witches play an equal part within the shifter kingdom, and there are a good variety of both witches talents and shifter creatures. It is well written and the characters are interesting. The camaraderie between Izzy’s new bandmates is really entertaining, and as they are shifter kings, they each have a story to tell themselves ;-) Very enjoyable.

This is the first book in the Nashville Shifters series. You will meet alot of characters but this book is Eagle and Izzy's story. Eagle is next in line for the throne for his people. His namesake is an indication of his animal. His relationship between his father and him is challenging and we learn that their past is heartbreaking. Can Eagle truly find himself and claim what is his? Izzy is a Dabbler witch that has been marked with the tattoo that shows she could be a mate for a king. She is a free spirit and tries to live her life as such. Eagle and Izzy meet and remain strangers until Izzy joins one of the bands that Eagle represents. Now that they cross paths more frequently their attraction to one another is growing. This book not only introduces the reader to some great characters but also paints the world that these characters exist in and the challenges that are evolving. Is Eagle ready to become king for his people and is Izzy ready to be his queen? I cannot wait to continue the series. Enjoy!

Izzy has lived her entire life knowing she was destined to be a queen to one of the Shifter Kings of the US. Even knowing that she has this amazing outlook on life, knowing that even if she isn’t the richest girl out there with the most expensive dresses and shoes – that she is still one of the lucky ones because of her family and friends.

She is this really cool character (with dreads and everything) that not only doesn’t care what people think of her – but also works with at risk youth. If you think about it she makes the perfect Queen-to be.

Fate has her meeting Eagle on the street. The music and magic in her calling out to him in a way it never has with anyone. When she finds out he is one of the snobs she tries to avoid she is confused by her attraction to him. Until she finds out he is one of the Shifter Kings. Maybe he is her Shifter King?

A very sweet, rather too short happy romance with an very nice HEA. I loved the insta-love / hate between our girl and Eagle. I also like that Birmingham and Gunn also put in a big of suspense and intrigue with a fight for the throne.

Being a good son can be hard when you have he parent from hell. After his Mom died, Imperial, dad/King became more cruel. He likes to punish his son, Eagle Fitzwilliam, a Stellar Sea Eagle, the next King in public. Imperial insisted Eagle's sister, Annabell watch. He rules with selfish, inconsiderate cruelty bordering on total insanity. Fitz may have to take it from him. He learns to take his punichment, to control his expressions. Many perceive his demeanor as cold. Fitz hears Elizabeth, Izzy playing street music. He manages a band filled with future Kings, Snake, Grizz and Heavy. Izzy, is a Dabbler witch that uses powers from all witches, but doesn't master one. She is a hot mess! She interviewes for the band and never plays an instrument. As evil as he is, will Imperial willingly give up his kingdom? Will Eagle claim Izzie? Will the band work? Nice busy, story. I like Eagle a lot, I wish there was a bigger story about him.Nicely done. I received an ARC from Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Fantastic Shifter Love Story!

This is another fantastic shifter love story by this amazing author! It's a fast paced love story that will leave you breathless!

The main characters are phenomenal. Eagle is sexy, fierce and calm. He needs to be in order to deal with his dark and twisted father and to one day soon take over and become a king. Elizabeth is witty, fierce and knows exactly what she wants and isn't afraid to stand up for herself and get it. There is instant chemistry between Eagle and Elizabeth that is undeniable. A force is pulling them together and nothing will pull them apart.

This phenomenal author fills her stories with excitement, danger and lots of love. You can't help but fall in love with all of her characters and cheer for them from the sidelines. Holly knows how to weave tales that tug at our emotions and leave us wanting more.

I can't wait to read the next book! Highly recommend.

Who will be Eagle’s queen? Every thirty years a new king is crowned in each of the shifter nations. And their queen will be decided by the tattoo that appears behind their ear. Eagle has been abused and beaten for years by his cruel father and Eagle will soon be king of the eagles. But his father won’t step down and they must fight for the right to be king for the next thirty years. Elizabeth is a dabbler, a lesser witch, with no specific magic but lots of magic of different types. She and several of her cousins are also potential queens. The first time Elizabeth and Eagle see each other from a distance they are immediately attracted to each other, but is Elizabeth destined to be his queen or the queen to another shifter? Eagle Fitzwilliam Ambustus is under tight control, having had to deal with his sadistic, cruel father. Eagle is next in line to become king, but it doesn’t appear that his father is willing to step down as he is supposed to do, which means Eagle might have to fight his father for the right to be king. He needs to stop his father’s cruel rule of the eagle tribe.

Elizabeth Arguetais is a free-spirited witch who is strong and fierce. She and Eagle have sizzling chemistry the first time they meet. She witnessed the horrible treatment of Eagle by his father and realized how that had affected how Eagle comes across to others. Will the two of them accept each other for who they are as Eagle moves forward to take his position as king?

This is Book 1 in the Shifter Kings LA series. Eagle, of course, is marked to be the next king in the Eagle tribe. His father is the current king and is brutal to Eagle and his people. Izzy is a Dappler Witch and this type of witch is kind of looked down on by other people because they don’t have a magic of their own; they can borrow magic from other witches. She knows that she can be a queen but isn’t really interested. Until she meets Eagle. Interesting things begin to happen then. I really enjoyed this book and I’m not sure that it isn’t my favorite out of all the Kings series. I can’t wait to read more of the LA Kings. This witch knows what she wants
This book begins with a meeting of the eyes and from there the fates dig in their threads and direct the characters to the ending they hope to achieve. This author is quickly becoming one of my one-click authors. Each of her books is full of excitement, adventure, danger and so much emotion that you feel like you are part of the story. The author has this ability to create a story and a world where we would all love to visit and then sends us on an amazing adventure that leaves us fulfilled from the HEA and yet wanting to read more to see what happens with the rest of the kings. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series

Eagle is the future King of the eagle shifters of LA. He’s been raised by a sadistic, power hungry father and learned to keep tight control of himself at all times to survive. He runs a music company and manages a band made up of the other shifter kings of LA. Izzy is a Dabbler witch who plays the drums. Her magic comes out when she plays and she ends up joining the shifter king band. Izzy is a nice combination of strong and confident while still being vulnerable. Eagle wants things to be different when he is king and Izzy quickly breaks through his shell. I received an advance copy of this book and voluntarily left a review.

Well written story full of drama, humour and love fit for a king and queen ;)

This is an exciting start to the LA Shifter kings and I really enjoyed meeting the characters with all their quirks. It's filled with some intense emotions and harsh drama that really caught at my heart. No one should have a parent behave as Imperious did :( However, love does conquer all and I got swept away with their journey to an HEA. Good fun!

this is the first i have read of this author and i think that i will def check out more of her works. wish i had read the nashville shifters first to have a better background to this one tho it does stand well enough on its own and i am looking forward to the rest of this series.
it is a very short read and i think that the way it is written prejudiced me too much about eagle's character in the start of the book but it all came together well in the end

Helping each other to fly...

Like any new series, there is a little bit of trying to catch your footing with new characters and new relationships. I love how Izzy almost instantly bonded with "the band" and that helped to bring the feeling of camaraderie and brotherhood. I love that you can see ties to the Shift Kings of Nashville, other kings who will find queens, and even a few other characters who make you wonder. I look forward to this entire series.

I loved the story of Eagle and Elizabeth! Eagle has suffered abuse at the hands of his father, who has no intention of stepping aside. Meeting the other kings was a great introduction into what is to come. These stories are so unique and creative in character development. Wonderful story and I can't wait to read the next book in the series! Seriously, I want to be a dabbler witch!!

I can't wait for more!

What a great start to a new series. I'm in love with Iz and Eagle. My only wish is that this book was longer, so I could stay in the story just one more minute. I love Gunn's universe of shifters, and can't wait for what she comes up with next.

Another great read

The Haves and Have Nots theme in this book hits right close to home and was so nice to read. It’s easy to get caught up in wishing for something more, and I think that Izzy does a good job at showing everyone how to be happy with what they have.

On the other side of the US, in Los Angeles, the shifter Kings realize their time is coming to find their Queens and start their 30 year rule. Eagle is biding his time until his cruel father's time is up. The beat of Eagle's life changes one night listening to a beautiful and exotic woman play the bongos with a street band. At a fist glance Izzy, Elizabeth, seems to be the total opposite of Eagle. Is it possible that the two are meant to be together?? I love reading these Kings and Queens stories. I can't wait to see what's in store for the rest of the Kings of LA have in store for their Queens.
