Stubborn Spark

Rate this book
One snow party, two hot kisses. Three people who are more than happy to share.

Blayne
Done with university, I’m home in the Highlands, and life is anything but chill. My best friend is here and so’s a gorgeous American lass, working at my family’s snowboarding centre.
On a wild night, both Brodie and I get to lock lips with Casey. Heat scalds us. Chemistry explodes.
The best thing? All of us want to share.

Brodie
Blayne’s home, but not for long. If he wants this, I’ll do anything to make it happen. My life is falling apart, and I shouldn’t be risking my idiotic heart. Or our friendship.
I’m a carpenter and good with my hands. I can give them what they’re craving. Before both of them go and leave me behind.

Casey
A holiday romance is exactly what I need to take my mind off the disaster I fled in the States.
With the date looming for me to return, two hot Scots are ready to help me forget, and they aren’t going to make me choose.
So bring it, Highlander. You and your friend. I’m ready.

Without a doubt this is my favourite book from both of Jolie’s “Scot” series, and easily one of the best books I’ve read all year. Ten books in and the writing just gets better and better, and my love for those McRaes and their extended family continues to grow.
STUBBORN SPARK takes a completely different turn from the others and from the moment I knew it was going to be an MFM story I had no doubt in my mind that I was going to love every single second of it.
Blayne, Brodie and Casey complimented each other perfectly, and the heat and chemistry between them was so intense. I adored the way the boys’ relationship developed throughout the course of the story, and it was beautiful to watch them become more and more comfortable with their feelings for each other.
Being a huge fan of all of these books, I love that all previous characters play a huge part in each story, and I genuinely feel like I’ve become a part of their family.
Although the WILD SCOTS series is now finished, the epilogue made me massively giddy, knowing that a new series will be coming, with Caits story.
These books have something for everyone; Scottish Alpha men with hearts of gold, strong independent women, lots of steam, plenty of laughs and brilliant storylines. Jolie Vines is an author I discovered only a few short months ago but she’s already become one of my absolute favourites, and it’s my goal to make sure more people pick up her books and fall in love with her characters, just like I have.

Ohhh I'm in my feeling over this one.

A) All of the hotness exploded in this book. Like ALL of it. Super hot. Super sweet. Totally sexy.

B) I'm real tired of surprise baby plots or insta-family plots. Sometimes people can have a happily ever after without a baby. I'd love there to be some child-free doting aunts and uncles in this series that are /happy/ with that choice.

But B is on me and not the plot, obviously. 10/10 would read again.

I really enjoyed Stubborn Spark. This book is interesting and steamy hot. The book is well written with get depth of characters. The characters are great. I really like these series and the incorporation of all the secondary characters in the family. I love the interactions with the other family members. This is a great romance book with a wonderful happy ending.

Overall Grade: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ 1/2

“‘[…] For two people to find their perfect match and fall in love is a miracle. For that to happen between three is a rare thing.’”

Jolie Vines’s Stubborn Spark, the final book in her Wild Scots series, is her treatise. It’s a promise of change. I’ve been a fan of Vines since the second book of her storied Marry the Scots series, Love Most Say Least. Since that release, I’ve read every book as one of her ARC readers (of which I read for an honest review). Each book has developed the author in Vines, and her stories have moved from sweet, fated love stories with heroes who adore their heroines at any cost to wilder, more heated romances in her Wild Scots series. To watch her evolve feels important. There are too many authors in the romance community who “play it safe.” They find what works, and they generate it over and over again. Their readers, ones like myself, continue to read them because there is trust in that relationship, a comfort in the obvious. However, they rarely progress beyond their average offering.

Jolie Vines, with Stubborn Spark, has taken a step forward. This book is still decidedly Vines with two heroes who absolutely adore their heroine, Casey, and each other. That is standard to Vines, and I don’t see that ever changing. It’s what her devoted readers love about her romances. What this book offers, though, is innovation. It’s a stand that she’s willing to move beyond her usual M/F romances and embrace more. There is wisdom in this action in that she opens her readership to variety. Menage is popular. It feels forbidden as you read it, but it’s also deliciously $exy and captivating, earning the trope devoted readers. That Vines embraces it for baby Blayne’s story shows her courage as a writer to challenge herself. Stubborn Spark is Vines taking chances, and based on particular moments in this story, she isn’t done. It’s refreshing to read an author who is willing to embrace variety. It keeps her storytelling fresh for her readers and continually surprises them at her offerings.

As a menage story, Stubborn Spark works. For this reader, there is always quite a bit of suspension of disbelief for me with menage stories. I could never personally engage in polyamory, but there is a population that embraces this. In terms of other menage stories, Stubborn Spark is commensurate with it. At its core, it’s steamy, steamy, steamy. Brodie, one of the heroes, begins as the clear alpha, and Vines has crafted her heroes to complement each other, offering the totality of heroic characters in both. Her heroine, Casey, is a perfect match for Brodie and Blayne that their throuple makes sense for the story. I think what I love most about this story, though, is the extension of Clan McRae. I was excited about this book because I was curious as to the reaction of Blayne’s father, Callum McRae, and Vines endears me to him even more. There is a bit of nostalgia inherent to this story as it’s the last of the stories for Callum’s children, and Vines decidedly saves the most profound for last with Stubborn Spark.

Look, I have read all of Jolie Vines’s stories and been excited by each of them. However, this newest book along with the potential stories to come makes me proud to be one of her ARC readers. She is making choices that showcase her ability to draft stories of any sub-genre with any trope in romancelandia. And she does it well. Her consistency lies in writing stories that readers love to read time and time again. If you’re looking for a menage story set in the highlands of Scotland and the upper Hebrides, then run and one-click Stubborn Spark.

This book is sooooo much to handle, the hotness, the struggles, MFM love, when love is love, it doesn’t matter how it works...
Daddy Callum OMG he just made me cry on the ‘big day’ 🙌🏻❤️
Friendship, unusual relationships, bantering.

It’s the last book in the Wild Scots series, and Jolie has really outdone herself on this book 🙌🏻
When you start reading it, it sucks you in, and never lets you go.
The perspective of love and how people fight for themselves or struggle with real tough life decisions are captured in this book so well, that you feel the heartbreak and the drama in your own body and want to hug the characters and say ‘ it all will be okay honey ‘

So enough said and just go read this book 📖 and DM or talk to me on this post what your favorite part was 🤗🙌🏻.

I absolutely loved this book. I have been in love with these families since Storm the Castle. This story features Blayne, the youngest son of Callum and Mathilda from Storm the Castle. I highly suggest that you start from the first series before reading this one, simply because you cannot understand how exceptional this family is without knowing the parents that led the way.

Blayne and his best friend Brodie have been close since their early teens. Brought together by family, they have always been close. A missed opportunity to share a woman opened the door to thoughts neither man wanted to face. Casey is an American working at the family resort. The sparks between the three were instantaneous. The push and pull between them considering what is normal versus what feels right, was well written. Each character has to face his or her own perceptions of what they want in life versus what the feel are forced expectations. The story is full of heat, chemistry, laughs, tears and warmth - so much so that you hate to see the story end.

I applaud Jolie for taking a risk by writing a poly book. While I know this is not everyone's cup of tea, Jolie covers the topic, particularly the taboo aspect of it, with grace and compassion. She's not exploiting it, nor is she shaming it. The characters struggle with their own acceptance of their reality and how to share it with their family. I am not as familiar with the struggle, but it is so well written I felt it very realistic. At the end of the day, LOVE is LOVE. And this book shows that brilliantly.

I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review.

When you cannot define it but you know it is right at your core

Stubborn Spark is the fifth book in the Wild Scots series and is an off the charts, blow the roof off, skyrocket to outer space explosively hot story. Just be prepared with a cold drink and fire extinguisher beside you when you dig into this one on your Kindle. Actually you will also want to block off several hours as you will not be able to put it down. Once again Jolie Vines has given the reader a story that is well written, has a very engaging and captivating story-line and well developed characters. This is a different story than other books in this series as it is about a MFM romance/love with two very delectably sexy Scots, best friends Blaine and Brodie, and a young American woman named Casey. Blaine and Brodie have been best friends since they were younger but never in a romantic way between them. When they both meet Casey and start to fall for her and she for them it means they are all going to have to figure out how to go from friends to lovers and then so much more. Nothing is easy here as they have a lot to grapple with and sort through, not the least of which is family and friends and the socially acceptable. But when you know you know and for these three they know they want to be together and have all found where they belong, with each other.

Stubborn Spark (Wild Scots #5) by Jolie Vines is a contemporary, new adult, MFM romance told in first person from three points of view. Although this is the fifth and final book in the Wild Scots series, it can be read as a standalone.

What happens when a night of sexy fun between you, a lass, and your best mate turns into more? Blayne McRae is about to find out. After spending a wild night sharing Casey with his best friend Brodie, he can't wait to spend more time with them and do it all again. And the feeling is mutual. Blayne has been having the best time of his life with Brodie and Casey, and he's feeling all kinds of things he's never felt before, but it can't last. Can it? Read the book to find out.

I enjoyed this book. It's outside of the scope of what I typically read, and at times, especially early on, it was a bit much for me. As the story progressed it delved further into the thoughts and feelings between the three main characters, the plot revealed its obstacles, and I became more invested in the outcome. Overall, it was a hot, fun story. I'm sad to see this series end, but I'm looking forward to the upcoming spin-off series, Wild Mountain Scots.

Blayne and Bridge were childhood friends. Casey was spending part of her vacation working at Blayne's family ski resort. Sharing a special connection with both of them since they met she was not sure which one to choose until it became clear that is was not necessary to choose only one. The two men shared a special friendship but there was always the desire to take it further and meeting Casey presented them with the opportunity. Which started as some sort of experiment quickly became more as they discovered the ease with which they fit together as partners. But with each of them heading in a different direction in life, will there be a way for them to be together? And will their relationship be accepted by their friends and families? I loved the characters in the book and OMW the love ecenes are steamy. But it is the emotions and the feelings they share which stays with you. I look forward to the next book in the series.

Each book in the Wild Scots series make me want to take a trip to Scotland more and more. That accent and those words, gahhh. I can't get enough. I have loved these men and loved catching up with them. I wasn't, however, sure how I would feel about this book. Please don't get me wrong. I love a good mfm book. I just always have this underlying worry that one person would feel left out. That is how I felt about this book. But I shouldn't have worried. Ms Vine did a fantastic job of putting me at ease, even with the added angst. Blayne, Brodie. And Casey were made for each other. They had their ups and downs, but what relationship doesn't. It helped that they had a great support system too! I will miss these men and women but I'm glad we get to continue on with the family. Cait's book sounds intriguing!!

Another great book from Jolie Vines! They just keep getting better and better!
When I heard this book was going to be a MFM I was very excited, and Jolie did not disappoint!
From the very beginning these 3 had great chemistry between them and their journey throughout the book had me gripped. Not only were they trying to figure out their feelings and how their relationship as a 3 could work, but they each had their own challenges to overcome. I loved seeing how they each stepped up to help the other when they needed it.
I loved how the people closest to them accepted their unique relationship without judgement, and I think Callum summed it up perfectly ‘love is love’ -such a simple phrase but I feel it is probably one of the most important lines and so relevant not only to the characters but to us all.
Cannot wait to see where Cait’s story takes us next, already I can’t wait for this from the teaser!

This is in an intriguing and engrossing story of friends, love and family. Casey was working her way across Europe trying to move on from the fiasco her family blamed her for. Blayne was at home while finishing his dissertation and applying for jobs. Brodie, Blayne's best friend, had been waiting for Blayne to finally get home, when his sister required his help, therefore delaying the reunion. Blayne met Casey at the resort and was having coffee with her when Brodie did show up. Beginning with a patrol of Casey's that Blayne and Brodie accompanied her for, the three were inseparable. Including when they were intimate. The story follows along the lives of all three, their family issues, them falling in love and all of the drama that that entails. I was so swept up in the story that I had a hard time putting it down so I could sleep. It's steamy and entertaining, but it also tackles serious issues too. It's a must add to your TBR list.

Stubborn Spark

I can’t seem to stay away from the Highlands. Since discovering the Marry the Scot series, and now the Wild Scots series, pulling me in from word one, I’ve gotten to know this world created by an amazing author. She continues to write characters with heart and depth, the kind that you ache for and fall in love with. The world she’s built is one I wish I could live in! This book is no exception. Love and passion blend together on every page and I found myself devouring the words immediately. While the romance between three main characters is not one I am typically drawn to, Jolie Vines does a beautiful job of bringing the story to life with both the joy of the spark between them and the struggles it left them to navigate. Her heart for these characters is clear in every word.

I have inexplicably been drawn to Scottish Highland stories for a very long time. Most times, I travel back in time with my Highlanders. Vines draws me into her contemporary Scots stories with the same heightened attention that days gone by do!

She tells stories that have you staying up well past your bedtime!

I've read many reverse harem books, and this was so well done. It makes one think about the norms we live in, and who determined monogamy was best for humans. If things change, a reverse harem sounds good to me. LOL

I loved each of the main characters. Loved the laughter, the tears, the steam. So well written, and such a lovely love story!

What can I say? This is the hottest Scots book yet. I have been reading these Scots book since Storm the Castle and each one is better than the previous. If you like scorching hot sex scenes that turn to love scenes, this is the book for you. Our hot scots are not just hot but loving and caring and will do anything the woman they love. In this case, Blaine loves his best friend Brodie as a brother until along comes Casey. Neither Blaine nor Brodie can bear the thought of living without the other. What happens when a beautiful woman enters the scene. Afterall, the men weren't lovers. Watch what happens to this incredible friendship and the lengths they go to to show Casey that they both love her and would do anything for her. I couldn't put it down.

I received an ARC from the author thru Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving my review. This story is about the people who have different plans in life. They are thrown together for a time and realize that their chemistry is not to be denied. Even though it is supposed to be short term, they find that their future might be better together. Casey, Brodie and Blayne have a future if they can work thru their issues together. I thought that the characters pull you in and keep you glued to the pages. The storyline is well written. I am looking forward to reading more books by Jolie

Stubborn Spark: Blayne, Brodie, and Casey

I knew it would be good, and it went beyond my expectations! I read a fair share of menage romance, but this story had more depth and nuance than anything else I've read.

One of my favorite things about the author's work is the efficiency of words. Every sentence matters; every scene builds the characters and moves the story forward. There was *a lot* going on but I never felt lost. Rather, I was immediately drawn into the story and carried along through every page.

Wish I could erase it from my brain and read it for the first time all over again.

Who writes the hottest MFM book? Jolie Vines, that’s who! Blayne, Brodie and Casey heated up the pages from the very beginning. I loved watching the dynamics play out between best friends and then the girl that was the glue to the relationship. The one saying ‘Love is Love’ was so true in this book. There were so many emotions felt in this book. This was by far the best book by this author. So, if you want a book that you will experience all the feels then grab Stubborn Spark because Jolie Vines is going to take you on a mouth watering ride.

This was such a great book! I love the chemistry between Cassie, Blayne and Brodie. Their chemistry together was steamy hot enough to melt your panties, yet I really enjoyed the boys’ friendship and how it grew and evolved. They are all such likable characters and really was a joy to read. This is the first Wild Scots book I’ve read and I think I will have to go back and start from book 1!

I didn’t realize that this was the son of the couple I read in another Vines book/series. I didn’t get the impression that other book was set any earlier in time. But cool. This is the last of this second series but I doubt I’ll read the first ones.

I didn’t really like how there was British spelling for the American heroine. Like finalising, Mum’s, and apologising. Even in her thoughts she should spell it appropriately.

The guys were odd. They had a super great friendship but don’t really get it on until the bonus chapter. Which is fine. But…sort of missing the mark.

I really loved the book despite the not very developed heroine until the pregnancy. That plotting jumped the shark. Because what had been sexy getting to know each other and attractedness suddenly became let’s get married and build a house and oh by the way we love you! Up to that point it was “we really miss her and let’s see where this is going.”

Blayne and Brodie have been friends for a very long time but never sexual. Enter Casey and the heat turns on. Both men are attracted the American woman they end up sharing her. Casey and Brodie both have family problems that are explored in the book and Blayne for the most part is supportive, but he has some issues to deal with also. It makes for interesting read. I was looking forward to this book and was not disappointed. Blayne, Brodie, and Casey made a wonderful threesome. I loved their adventurousness and how quickly they connected. This is SO hot! And definitely different than the previous Wild Scots books and out of my comfort zone. But I couldn't stop myself from reading it.

Casey, Brodie, and Blayne's chemistry was off the charts. It was real wild! However, their story is not just about their threesome relationship, but also about their family, the meaning of family. The storyline is pretty well-written, captivated my attention till the end.

A Great Read

I read the synopsis for this story and I wasn't sure whether I wanted to read this type of relationship. Having loved all the rest in this series and the previous Scots series, I decided to risk it and I am glad I did, so well written and what steamy love scenes they are. I warn they are for a mature audience! I thoroughly recommend the whole series to anyone

Great ending to this series!

Stubborn Spark is the perfect way to end the Wild Scots series. I have fallen in love with all of the characters in the Marry a Scot and Wild Scots books and couldn't wait to read the next one.
Blayne and Brodie's story kept me hooked from the first word to the last. Hot and sweet. Love is love!
