A brand new standalone adventure for the Tenth Doctor, which also forms part of the Time Lord Victorious story arc, read by Jacob Dudman.

The Doctor travels with Brian, the Ood assassin, to the planet Magnox, one of the greatest receptacles of knowledge the universe will ever know. The Doctor needs to ask a vital question, but the answer is Grade 1 Classified! In order to gain an audience with the Minds of Magnox themselves he must take a dangerous test. Is he smart enough to get through?

Meanwhile, Brian gets involved with the criminal fraternity and is given a job: to assassinate the Minds of Magnox. However, others also have the planet within their sights....

This latest installment is BBC Audios solo contribution to the Time Lord Victorious multiplatform series.
According to the revised timeline this fits in between the next book and massively ties in with some of the other media, so it's a testament that it can be enjoyed as a standalone adventure.

The main crux of the story sees the Tenth Doctor arrives on Magnox, one of the greatest receptacles of knowledge in the universe.
Aiming to speak to the Minds of Magnox might not be so simple.

The story also follows Brian the Ood who soon gets involved with a criminal gang.
The trained assassin is one of the best characters to come from TLV and it was great that so much of this release focused on his backstory.

It's the first time that I've listened to Jacob Dudman and he brilliantly captures the Time Lord perfectly.
It's so important to have a strong narrator and he really made this release even more enjoyable.

The coda at the stories conclusion might possible be my favourite scene in the whole of this saga.

Doctor Who: Time Lord Victorious: The Minds of Magnox è un audiolibro appartenente alla serie del Time LordVictorious, letto e interpretato da Jacob Dudman, caratterista per la Big Finish e voce dei Dottori 10, 11 e 12, oltre che di vari altri personaggi storici.
Stando alla cronologia ufficiale, si piazza dopo Doctor Who: Time Lord Victorious: The Knight, The Fool and The Dead e, più esattamente, tra le due parti di Doctor Who: Time Lord Victorious: All Flesh is Grass, ancora inedito.

This is really only a short story. The equivalent of an episode from the series, or maybe a special. As it was advertised as an audiobook, I was expecting it to be longer. At least two discs, maybe even three or four. So the length was a bit disappointing. On the other hand, Jacob Dudman, the narrator, does a spectacular job with the reading. Brilliant. His 10th Doctor is spookily close to David Tennant and he does a surprisingly effective impression of Matt Smith, the 11th Doctor, as well. The story itself? Quite good and certainly was very entertaining.

I really enjoyed this a lot, great story :)

on second listening I found it a little too long, a trim here and there would have tightened thigns up a lot, but it's still an enjoyable tale all the same :)

See more of my reviews here!

This is probably my favorite story, so far, of the Time Lord Victorious multimedia project. It is a tight story with an interesting, self-contained plot. While it is clearly interconnected with the overarching story of the event, it tells a good story of its own, which some other entries were lacking. I liked the premise of a planet ruled by people who have access to all the information in the universe and the answer to every question. I also enjoyed seeing the Doctor become obsessed with discovering whether his actions in other parts of the TLV event had made the universe a better place. The consequences of this obsession are ironic given the harm caused by it. This entry also contained another stand out performance by Brian the Ood, which I absolutely loved. He really is such a demented, yet fun, character.

The narration really brought this story to another level, as well. It was top notch, and Jacob Dudman did a great job impersonating the Doctor and making Brian the Ood sound eery. The coda was also fantastic and is probably my favorite scene from all of Time Lord Victorious, so far.

Overall, this audiobook is a great entry in the Time Lord Victorious event. It has a fun and interesting story with fantastic narration. Therefore, I rate it 5 out of 5 stars. If you are a fan of Doctor Who, I recommend it!

I really enjoyed this! The Minds of Magnox is an audiobook in the large multi-media event 'Time Lord Victorious, and I think it's one of the later events in the timeline. I probably wouldn't recommend listening to this if you haven't at least read 'The Knight, the Fool and the Dead', just because this does have spoilers for that story, and there are characters here that are introduced in that story.

With that being said, if you have read the aforementioned book, you're very likely to enjoy this story! It takes place in an interesting location, has good characters (Brian the Ood is as entertaining and creepy as usual), and without spoiling anything, the moral dilemma posed in this makes it a very necessary entry in the 'Time Lord Victorious' event.

And if the plot wasn't enough, this is also one of many audios narrated by Jacob dudman, whose impression of David Tennant may not be every one's cup of tea, but for me it was more than good enough to keep me immersed in the story.

So if you've been following the 'Time Lord Victorious' event in any way, I would definitely recommend this - it's fun, thrilling, and even has some emotional moments at the end!

So, this is the final piece of the Time Lord Victorious for me. And, it's okay. Essentially, the Tenth Doctor and Brian the Ood travel to Magnox where the native species are obsessed with knowledge. The Doctor wants to know if he's doing the right thing in exterminating the Kotturuh. Not if he should or shouldn't, but if it's the right thing. It's an interesting story, and the coda at the end is nice, but it felt a little lackluster. The narrator Jacob Dudman, does a decent Ten, but is a much better Eleventh Doctor. This was BBC Audio's contribution to the series, and it works, but I think Big Finish's full-cast audios were better. Anyway, it's part of the over-arching Time Lord Victorious series and fits somewhere in the middle of Doctor Who: Time Lord Victorious: All Flesh is Grass. So give it a try, but I'm not sure if it's essential to the main story.

This didn't feel quite like a full story and more like a chapter in a longer book - the challenge of this Time Lord Victorious crossover event. I suppose one can only go so far when you're coordinating different parts, but here's where we are.

The core story is okay - the Tenth Doctor and Brian the Ood assassin have come to another library planet called Magnox in order to get an answer to a key question. Information is truly power on this planet and acts as its main currency. But it seems the answer to his question is restricted and he'll have to prove himself to the leaders of this world in order to get the answer he seeks.

Brian is immediately separated from the Doctor and it feels like they needed to fill in the blanks and give him something to do. When things come together, it's a little contrived, but given the brevity of the story, I guess it makes sense.

Excellent voice acting but a just okay story that needed a lot more meet. I wish it had been longer and a bit more complex, but it's okay. And the epilog was quaint but not exactly groundbreaking.

The Doctor and Brian the Ood arrive on Magnox, a planet where knowledge is power and status for the answer to a question while Brian the Oood goes off to amuse himself, which is of course, going to mean someone's going to die.

This is a pretty effective story. For most of the run time, the big highlight is getting to see what Brian gets himself involved in as well as the idea behind agnox society. While this is the Tenth Doctor at his darkest, the question he asks shows he's still questioning where he's gone.

Jacob Dudman really does make the event. His ability as a mimic shines through not only in his (underrated) taken on the Tenth Doctor, but also how he voices Brian and all the other characters.

I will say that this doesn't stand alone well. I can't imagine coming into this without having read The Knight, the Fool, and the Dead, and not being incredibly lost.

Still, if you've read that, this will be a nice treat.

I loved the voice acting and sound design for this audio book. I just love audiobooks that have sound effects and music, which is why I think I've struggled with other audiobooks that only have a narrator. The David Tennant voice is so close to actually being David Tennant it's kinda wild. But story wise, it was okay! Nothing spectacular but not bad at all. it’s set in the end of the 10th doctor‘s life where he has become the time Lord victorious and he has no limits which causes the loss of a civilisation. Brian the Ood is pretty good and quite funny and the concept of the Magnox is also very interesting. Solid Doctor Who story.

This fits in well with the Time Lord Victorious arc, though casual listeners might be a tad confused (it's a standalone, but it won't make complete sense if you're not following the overarching storyline). Brian's character is used to full effect here and the Doctor's desperation comes through loud and clear - mostly due to the amazing narration by Jacob Dudman! Holy crap! He nailed 10th's voice. Overall, the story itself is alright, but Dudman's work elevates it to excellent.

I'm not sure if this is definitely my favorite from what I've read in the Time Lord Victorious stories so far, but it's up there. It's quite interesting to have a menacing Ood and somewhat satisfying to see how the Doctor screws up now and then. Jacob Dudman does a pretty good Tenth Doctor voice too.

**NOTE: I listened to this story on Audible.com**

Nothing is as good as a Doctor Who story, especially when it's part of the new Time Lord Victorious storyline. Jacob Dudman, a terrific Doctor Who impressionist, does a wonderful job portraying 10 in this story, and all the characters around him. I had a lot of fun listening to this story, and look forward to more!

This was good but not amazing. Having previously read some of the time Lord victorious arc in comic book form already, this was interesting to listen to but found myself confused as despite saying that it was a self contained story I felt that you probably needed to read the novelisations within the time victorious arc before listening to this. It was enjoyable though.

Not sure where this book fits in TIME LORD VICTORIOUS.

The novel 'The Night, the Fool, the dead' had Brian and 10th Doctor together, but this book seems to be after the duo have been together for awhile (with no mention on how novel's cliffhanger ending played out).

Still great story, durning epilog I had tears in eyes so you know it worked at creating hreat characters. :)

Nice audio book. Never come across this narrator before but he has a great way of bringing it all to life. The story is an aimless runaround but fun plus we have Brian the Ood and some emotional weight

First of all the narrator for this story was amazing, easily the best 10th Doctor I’ve heard, outside of the stories read by David Tennant of course.

And a quick little jaunt of a story that fits nicely into the Time Lord Victorious arc.

I was honestly unaware of this being a multi-Doctor story before listening to it. Dudman does a decent job, but I also feel like this wasn’t a crucial part of TLV in all honesty.

This is exceptionally well read. Jacob Dudman perfectly captures the nuances of Ten. And, unlike some of the TLV stories, this drives the narrative forward.

Minds of Magnox is a rather simple story with the typical plotline of classic Doctor Who, which is interesting perceiving such a story from a reboot Doctor’s perspective.

This audio drama was a solid heist thrill ride with a distinct cast of characters. The last few moments were quite heart-warming.

It was not anything special, it does nothing terribly noteworthy, both good and bad, but it was a solid story.
