An impossible crush on a guy who flirts one day and ignores me the next.
And apparently, I'm a supernatural of some kind?
You know ... just normal teenage stuff.
My new friends have been keeping secrets, but I have a few of my own. The more truth I uncover, the more I realize that I don't know myself--or my past--like I thought I did.
As for what comes next?
All I know is that my world is flipping, and I don't know who I can trust.
I have a choice to make, and when the dust settles, I'm not sure who will still be standing alongside me.
Suppressed is Book Two in The Magic Unveiling, a YA urban fantasy / paranormal novel. This series is the prequel to the Blakemore Paranormal Academy and Supernatural Reform School. If you like strong female characters, contemporary books with magic, and gripping mysteries, you'll love this book! This series starts in a world that doesn't know magic exists ... or that vampires, wolf shifters, witches, and other supernaturals live among t
The only thing that Sullivan Gray loves more than writing is reading. And maybe coffee. She writes in a variety of YA genres. In addition to the Blakemore Paranormal Academy series, she is the author of Pariah, the first in a contemporary YA spy series. When not writing, she's helping her husband wrangle their five kids and hosting the Create If Writing Podcast under her other name, Kirsten Oliphant.
‘Church’s words echoed in my head: Supernaturals exist. We’re all supes. And you are too, Princess.’
Despite Sutton, Church, Darius and Kimani standing up for her against Drew and his friends a few weeks earlier, the threats and daily confrontations have not stopped - a detail that Taisiyah has kept hidden from her new friends. Neither has she told her parents of the events of the varsity party in which she was almost sexually assaulted. Taya has become increasingly frustrated at Ms Meadow’s inaction in reporting Drew to the authorities - especially when she learns that there have been other victims in school. Instead Ms Meadows asks Taya to wait and assures her that Drew and his friends will be dealt with at the right time. She also promises to tell Taya more about the Select at their next meeting.
Fearing for her physical well-being, Taya quits cheerleading after Cassie threatens to drop her and she finds her cheerleading uniform shredded in her locker. Now Taya has no other option but to come clean with her parents about some of what’s been happening. While her mother is understandably upset, Taya is unnerved by her father’s reaction which is to abstain from notifying the authorities and drawing attention to themselves. Instead, to her dismay, he announces that they are moving in a weeks time. A heartbroken Taya wonders how to tell Sutton and the gang.
The following day, Church is awestruck when he sees another display of Taya’s bourgeoning powers while she’s being harassed by Drew and his friends. He takes her back to Sutton’s house where Ms Meadows finally reveals the existence of magic and the supernatural community’s efforts to stay incognito from humans. She explains how twenty years earlier, a supernatural civil war broke out in which one faction wanted to reveal the truth to humans while the other did not. Those who wanted to reveal the truth became intent on exposing them all at any cost. Those who didn’t, took drastic measures to hide their presence in order to protect themselves. Understandably not all these actions were agreed upon by the greater community.
“To keep us all from being exposed, a decision was made to suppress the magic, hiding the abilities of most supernaturals. They used a spell, and it impacted most of the adults and” - her face tightened - “especially the children. A whole generation came into the world without access to their magic, or even any understanding of it. When things didn’t work as the group had hoped, many of the parents were.... killed. Or the children stolen. They were put into the foster care system or privately, illegally adopted. They were put either with human families, or parents who approved of this plan.” - Ms Meadows
Ms Meadows goes on to explain that not everyone was suppressed. In fact, those who were FOR the suppression in the first place didn’t take their own magic. Which means they’ve been the most powerful supernaturals, taking control and power all along. Others weren’t affected by the spell and some magic like vampire magic or Fae magic can’t be suppressed or stolen.
The Select have been searching for the children who were taken. They are then enrolled at The Academy, an elite boarding school designed to teach them about their abilities and help restore their powers. Their ultimate goal is to eventually reveal their magic to humans.
Before long, Taya comes to learn that not only is she the key to unlocking the abilities of those whose powers have been suppressed but that everything she has known about herself since her accident has been a lie. Taya’s only hope is for the Select to grant her admission into the Academy where she can train, learn more about who she is and be allowed to stay with her friends. To her consternation however, it seems that Ms Meadows is reluctant to hand her over to the bigwigs behind the Select and the Academy. The question is why?
Suppressed is the second exciting instalment of the Magic Unveiling series and picks up a few weeks after the events of the first book. From the offset of this series, I found myself emotionally invested in the characters. Taya’s pain and loneliness was so palpable in Pariah that I couldn’t wait for the release of the follow up to see what the author had in store for her. It became apparent quite early on that Taya’s antagonists have kept up their campaign of intimidation despite Sutton and the gang’s intervention in the previous book. Unfortunately Taya’s frustration at being kept in the dark about the Select is also keeping her at odds with her friends and in particular Ms Meadows who has her own reasons for trying to protect Taya.
Taya’s development over the course of both books has been interesting. The knowledge that her parents have been lying to her as well as the emergence of her bourgeoning powers have left her questioning who she really is. Her relationship with Church as well as the rest of the group have resulted in her feeling alienated which tragically results in her putting her trust in some one else.
While Pariah was more of a character driven instalment, Suppressed is definitely a plot driven one that saw the author expand on her world building and provide some much needed answers. It’s becoming increasingly apparent that certain power driven factions are intent on ruling others and that Taya is a key figure in putting a spanner in their works.
Suppressed was a thrilling ride from start to finish. Judging from the whopping conclusion, the third instalment is guaranteed to have us begging for more and I for one can’t wait!
Loved book one and I loved this second book as well! This series is a fantastic YA urban fantasy / paranormal read that will grab you with its secrets and truths, the magic and gripping mysteries and the kick ass strong female mc as she starts to learn more about herself and her powers! Theres also vampires, wolf shifters, witches, and other supernaturals To keep you on your toes along with shocking twists and turns! Love the storyline, love the characters , this is a dark supernatural Series that is a must read!
◦ I've received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review ◦
Suppressed is a slow burn of romance and supernatural leaving no place for interpretation of what's going to happen next, suspense, adventure and love all mixing together, bringing you to the beginnings of everything - where supernatural began/
Suppressed is a continuation from Pariah where the new events will let you be speechless, where you'll learn about the supernatural world and how people react towards it. Two sides of a coin - one fighting for the good, one fighting for the evil. The way the events are rolling in the book you will not even realize when the book's over!
I've read the 2nd book way too quickly, I didn't even realize when I finished it to be honest that's how good this saga is. You don't know when its over, you don't know how time has passed near you, it just swipes you off your feet and takes you to a world where people barely find out about supernatural, you can see how if this would've been real, how things would've been. People not understanding the supernatural, calling you a freak because they don't understand, is an amazing perspective of how supernatural would be in our worlds - something that I've always thought about. And this book gives you exactly that, a new perspective of how the world of supernatural would be depicted if people would find out that creatures actually exist, is an amazing perspective and it kept me in total suspense.
The fact that the book is a slow burn made me love it even more because when things go slow you get the chance to see the development behind everything, their feelings, the events leading to that moment where everything makes sense and everything fits right on the place.
I can't wait to see what the 3rd book is bringing to us, the relationship between Taya and Church, the supernatural world taking a turn for the best or worst, the Academy and so many more things going on around people who most of them have no clue that shapeshifters and other creatures exist. I'm really curious how the usual people are going to react when the supernatural world will be exposed!

Remarkable job Sullivan, thanks for sharing this little jewel with us.
My initial review on the 1st book was positive but hesitant on continuing the series because, even though it was a good story, it was kind of rough & a bit darker than I'm used to. But I've loved everything by Sullivan Gray so far & decided to try it.
Wow! I'm so glad I continued! In book 2, the bullies haven't exactly gone away - but the game has significantly changed now. Taya's relationship with the supes develops further, & she begins to learn more about what's going on, as well as herself & her powers.
I did not want to put the book down till that last breath-suspending page - - & now I can't wait for book 3!
Thanks for the exciting ride!!
(I would say that the ending is more like the end of a chapter or an episode than a cliffhanger, but it definitely leaves you wanting the next book ASAP!)
*Clean romance level: passionate kisses, some threats of rape, but nothing gratuitous or graphic
I don't even know what to say about this book... Is a really hard journey for Taya, figthing and surviving her bullies, trying to find out who and what she really is, struggling with her feelings for Church, lying to her parents, trying to keep her friendship with Sutton, Kimani, Darius and Church, while also attempting to pass her classes... Is just to much!!!... And then, suddenly, everything just blow up!!! 😳🤯 OMG so many feelings!!!... And then the book is over and your heart is broken because of that damn cliffhanger and you can't sleep thinking about WTF is going to happen next 😩💔😭 This book is that amazing guys, go get your copy now, 💯 recommended!!! 😍💖
This was a great second book in the Magic Unveiling series with its fasted pace and slow burn romance between Church and Taya with addition of supernatural and magic aspects what is not to love.
Taya is growing more confident within her friendships with Sutton, Church, Darius and Kimani. After the bombshell Church made at the end of Book 1, Suppressed highlights Taya’s need to understand but also her need to trust.
The building romance between Chruch and Taya is fantastic. Their realisation that they have feelings for each other and within one kiss everything changes.
The introduction of the Academy and the hints that all is not what it seems leaves me excited to see what is in store for Taya and how Church and her can be reunited again.
Phew!!! What an incredible ride this book has been!! Sullivan sure knows how to keep you completely engrossed in a story!
Taya is back, still feeling incredibly vulnerable because of the football muppets and not knowing the truth about the 'big secret', the deepening feeling of friendship from the small group she feels connected to, the hot and cold that is Church.... pretty much everything. This is one emotional ride from the first page to the very last page, one that keeps you engrossed right to the end. Cant wait to see qhat happens next!
Book two has so much going on with Taya and her group of friends. The guys from the football team are still after her but she's not telling anyone, she's finally told her parents she quit cheerleading and her dad informs them that they're moving. Between the the hot and cold attitude from the guy she likes, secrets and rejection is too much for her. Has she made the right decision while she's reeling reeling from everything that's happened?
Book 1, Pariah, was just a hint of what’s to follow, Suppressed ramps everything up, more stress and excitement, unexpected romance, more explanations that just add to more unanswered questions, more mystery, more cliffhangers. It looks like there could be something really great going to happen for Taya, but for now I still have to guess what. I’m frustrated again, by not having book 3 to continue!
I really enjoyed reading more of Taya's story! She is a very interesting character with both human and supernatural problems that make it easy to feel for her and root for her. I'm excited to read more of her story and uncover some of the mysteries about her past, her family, and her supernatural abilities.
Also, the epilogue from Church's perspective... So enlightening, but so so heartbreaking!
I fell in love with Taya in the first book, and I absolutely love her in this one. I was so excited to see this book that I absolutely devoured it in one setting. There's so much going on that you just can't help but go wow when you get done and think huh, now what. I have so many questions that I can't wait to see what happens. I absolutely love this book.
This 2nd book in the series took the story to another level, with added twists and shocks that I didnt expect. The character development continued to be smooth and strong. The ending left off perfectly and I look forward to book 3.
This was sooo good. I enjoyed this more than the first book because so many things were revealed. I couldn't put it down. Now that the truth has been revealed, I can't wait to see what happens next.
This book was a great addition to the series. We find more out about Taya, and her new group of supes. That ending is WHOA, and I can’t wait for the next one!
Gah! This series and it's feels! Taya continues to learn more about herself and her potential, the three football idiots keep tormenting her, and I seriously wanted to slap Church. There was enough emotion laden in this sequel to push me to read it in one sitting. Now I just need book three to soothe my heart.
I was really hooked with the end of book 1 in this series and book 2 did not disappoint. Loved the ongoing premise and enjoyed Taya's love interest in this book. Great read!
