Maybe she hadn’t failed at love. Maybe he just hadn’t been the right man…
Life had never been melancholier for Eliza Loring since the man she loved had up and married someone else. But when she meets a handsome stranger whose genuine compliments and soul-searing gazes seem to reach way deep inside her, she wonders if maybe there’s another man out there for her after all.

Miner Gill Mabry has seen and done many things in his nearly 40 years, much of which he’s not proud of. He’d put his days at war far behind him, though the memories seem determined to haunt him while he sleeps. It was love at first sight when he met Eliza, but when battle with the Bannock Indians seems imminent, he must decide if he can summon the strength to take up his rifle once more – this time for the woman he loves.

A sweet western historical romance that will transport you to another time and place where outlaws, Indians, and other unknown threats roamed the wild, rowdy west.
Amethyst is book four in the Heart of a Miner series and can be read as a standalone though would be best appreciated if read in order.

Reading has always been a passion of mine. I always wanted to become an author but it was a "someday" sort of goal. In 2017, I decided to make my dream a reality and began my first book. While I enjoy nearly all fiction, historical novels particularly fascinate me.

My family and I live in Southern Utah, USA. I grew up on horseback and treasured any time I could spend riding through the red sands and sagebrush. My husband Randon and I have four children - including a set of twins. Nothing makes me happier than being a wife and mother.... but reading is a very close second!

Enjoyable

This mining community in the wild west of Idaho is very interesting to me and I loved learning more about its residents. I especially enjoy watching as all of the different characters lives connect and thread together throughout the series.

Gill has a slightly colorful past and falls head-over-heels with Eliza, who also has some skeletons in her closet and feels like a failure because of them. These imperfect characters have a lot to navigate, with their past issues and a blossoming romance, but their journey is adventuresome and tender. I adored getting to know them each better and appreciated their personalities and qualities.

This historical western delivers the dangerous elements of the west during the 1870s, as well as the charming details. It would be challenging to live during this time and it was fascinating to discover the pros and cons of this time in history. Anderson does a good job of transporting a reader to a time gone past era and supplying a gripping, yet sweet, tale.

Content: mild romance; mild elements of violence/danger

Sometimes love takes a long time in coming. Such was the case for Eliza Loring. Having loved one man for ten years who ended up marrying someone else, she felt all was lost. She was 34 years old but it seems all was not lost.

Gill Mabry is a miner doing work in Silver City and never been married. Now 40 he feels he is too old for Eliza to be interested in him. But have past that seem to come up and challenge their courtship. But love will win out... Or will it?

Loved this story and how the author wove the history and such great information into the story!

Great Characters, Nice Slow-Burn Romance, But...

I loved the characters in this story. The author did a good job of showing how both perceive themselves to be broken or imperfect given their pasts. The growth of the romantic aspect was sweet, as they both started to trust both themselves more as well as each other. I was, however, disappointed by what the author chose as the required black moment in a romance. I firmly believe that these should spring from character or at least be well foreshadowed or given a full backstory so it doesn't feel simply stuck on. Unfortunately, that's what happened in this book. The dark moment that caused both so much pain was from a simple misunderstanding that could have been solved if the hero took a few more steps forward. The hero's particular problem at the end with his old army “friend” honestly seemed to spring out of nowhere. The author hadn't shown their previous relationships to be so terrible as to warrant what happened later. I also felt like the end was a bit abrupt, and of course, an epilogue for a romance like this one is always wonderful to have (but wasn’t a part of the book). I actually enjoyed most of the book because the stuff that annoyed me toward the end didn't happen until, well, the end! So, I feel a little like the author pulled the rug out from under me after starting with such a wonderful story with great characters and a slow-burn romance plot between two wounded souls. Still, all in all, I enjoyed this book... up until the end!

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

TIME HEALS MANY WOUNDS

The fourth story in the Heart of a Miner series could read as a stand-alone but will also have many characters from the previous stories. The story will bring two strangers together, Eliza Loring, who has lived in Silver City for ten years and a mining consultant, Gil Mabry. These are each souls who have had trying times, struggle with ordeals from the past but are drawn to each other. But will their past continue to haunt them, will a mistake be the final straw or will love win in the end.

I love how this story is full of historical events and facts; little tidbits of history will play a large part in this tale as the author uses her artistic liberties in spinning it into this tale. It will have Indians, miners, military, raids, along with memories of the past and things in the present.

The plot will have both Eliza and Gil cautious with each other, each harboring personal demons of their past. But they have great chemistry together, and just when they seem to be progressing, trouble comes to Silver City with raiding Indians. Gil will find himself doing what he never wanted to do again, military duty, but he can’t just sit back and ignore the dangers, and then there is Eliza, and he needs to do this to protect her as well as the citizens of the town. For a man who doesn’t think he is worthy of a woman’s affections, he craves what is developing between them. But has fate pulled a cruel joke on him?

“You can open your heart again, you know. Trust that God knows your anguish and wants you to be happy. You’ll never know unless you truly consider him and open yourself to the possibility.”

The story will take on a life and death situation and show how far a woman is willing to go for a man she loves. It has the good, the bad, and the ugly of people—including prejudice held after the War Between the States has ended. The story is a clean historical western, including action and adventure, that ends with a happily ever after ending.

Amethyst by Krystal M. Anderson is an historical romance set in the late 1800s. Eliza is heartbroken because the man she loves has married another woman. She did something that turned him away. Gill is a newcomer to town, but he has a history that he is not proud of. Can they heal each others' pain? This book takes place after the Civil War. Idaho is still a wild west town being inhabited by settlers mostly searching for silver and other precious metals in addition to gems that are rich in the area. There are also Indians on the warpath and other dangers.

This is a wonderful story with lots of action and twists and turns. The plot and characters are well developed. I recommend this story especially if you like western historical stories. I received an advance reader copy of this book and I always review every book that I read. Enjoy.

This is a wonderful story set in Silver City, Idaho territory in the Old West. Eliza is a cook at the Idaho Hotel and is nursing a broken heart. Gill is a miner who is doing consulting. He is trying to leave the horrors of his past in the past. Ms. Anderson’s descriptions make me want to visit this ghost town. You get to really know the characters by their reactions and interactions. I loved this book and I am loving this series! I am anxiously waiting for more!
I received an advance copy of this book from the author, however, I voluntarily wrote an honest review. All opinions are strictly my own.

Beautifully written.
The setting in this piece is just after the Civil War Eliza's love has married someone else and she is heartbroken. Then she meets Gil he is attracted to Eliza from the start. The war touched Gil and now when a threat comes he is not sure he will respond. It is a good western historical it will touch anyone who knows a returning vet who has seen horrors. I was impressed with the characters a young woman afraid to love and a man who is chased by the past. Beautifully written this is a book you would be proud to have in your collection. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

This is the fourth book in The Heart Of the Miner series. It can be read as a standalone, but some characters from other stories are talked about. This is a sweet story set In the town of Silver City. Eliza is shattered, when the man she thought she would marry, marries someone else. Then she meets Gill. She is not sure if she is ready to move on, but after time, she knows she must. Gill is a kind man, but suffers with the aftermath of the civil war. The characters are will thought out and compatible. I have really enjoyed this series.

Intriguing tale of love, conflict and truth

I enjoyed this story. Eliza and Gill add so much character to the events that take place. I realize the events are factual, but even the fictional characters add so much more life to the book. I suggest you read this.

I enjoyed this story because it is based on historical information. There was an actual Bannock (Indians) War in 1878. The struggles Gill has about his time during the Civil War are also based on true places & I am sure lingered in the minds of men who were in that war.

Eliza

She has suffered and been hurt and then he appears and her thoughts turn toward what might be. A historical perspective with real people entwined with fictional characters to bring a story to life.
