When a brutal war comes to Gal’azu, Og-Grim-Dog believe things can’t get any worse. They’re wrong. For the Dead now walk the land. As the world around them begins to disintegrate, Og-Grim-Dog face their greatest challenge yet. Can they survive the apocalypse?
Jamie has always loved a good story, whether real or imagined. He grew up in the south of England before moving to the north, where he worked as a history teacher. He still lives there with his wonderful family, but now spends his time writing, mainly about people hitting each other with swords. You can connect with him at his website, jamieedmundson.com
I’m only giving this 4 stars cause they killed my favorite character off and then everyone else but the three headed ogre. I wasn’t expecting to lose all of the companions and I’m devastated. Other than that, this was such a good read but a little darker with all the deaths of people you came to care about.

I enjoyed this one the most from the series. The story and structure seemed tighter, and suited the darker tone. We've had a dungeon crawl, a henchmen crawl and this book is the fall out as older and newer characters converge and OGD looks into some redemption.
Being said, it all goes pear shaped with an undead plague and wars of conquest become survival. Without giving much away, it has a darker and messier tone with consequences shown in blood.
Very enjoyable read and as always seems too short.
It was all a mess with full of deaths. They also went through the portal unnecessarily, because everything just got worse... never mind, let's try again!
My love for this series just get bigger and bigger, as Og-Grim-Dog's celebrity status grows, after the recorders published work of the ogres two last adventures, as patrons come from all over to hear their stories, its a tough crowd at the Flayed Testicles, with the entertainment being booed of stage, awaiting the main act Og-Grim-Dog third tale of adventures, exploits while trying to save Gal'azu from hordes of the dead, even though they might have played a part in its cause, The Dungeoners are back, but at what cost, with the Succubus and Incubus still to deal with, their mission is travel back through the portals to try reverse or turn back the clock and fix the damage they've done, absolutley quality and hilarious, the comedic camaraderie between the characters is brilliant, cracking plot and worldbuilding is amazing, a classic comedy Fantasy at its best, Chuck Wagnor gives another steller preformence, what I love about this audio, it has amazing sound effects that just add more quality to the story itself, highly recommend
Volume 3 of the adventures of the three headed ogre, Og-Grim-Dog, and a darker tone compared to the more balanced humour/dungeons and dragons style fantasy of the previous two.
The main reason for the darker direction is that the Undead, or zombies, feature in this particular story. I’m not a big fan of fantasy or horror with zombies. They’re usually poor material in my view for clever adversaries. Bashing their brains in seems to be the only thing they understand! All the same the author, whose storylines have impressed me so far, does a reasonable job with them and at the end there’s a suggestion that a clever twist in this rather dark plot may be imminent in volume 4.
As usual, it’s a pacy plot spread over no more than 150 pages. Og-Grim-Dog remains a fine lead character and I like the writing style. Primarily because of the zombie content and a consequent lower comedic content I’m rating this as 4* compared to the previous 5* books in the series. Certainly I’m up for the last in the quartet of short novels.
The Flayed Testicles, the tavern owned by Og-Grim-Dog was packed to the brim as people came from far and wide to hear the tales which them three were telling about their travels and exploits whilst trying to save Gal'azu. The clients were prepared for a tale of humour and suspense but none were prepared for the dark slant this 3rd story took, as Og-Grim-Dog tells of his and his friends war with the hordes of the undead who could turn anyone that got bitten or scratched into another undead. They travelled to some far off places in order to turn back the clock and remedy some problems caused by Og-Grim-Dog himself, because even though the whole of the Kuthenian Empire was being over run by the undead, their main priority still was to rid their empire of the incubus and succubus who had taken over the court of Pengshui and Fell Towers respectively. Our group of heroes, comprised of a wizard, an elf, an ogre, a barbarian, a halfling and a princess were forced to do battle with orcs, and goblins too apart from the Draugr. These stories as re-told by Og-Grim-Dog highlight the mistakes he inadvertently made which he felt bad for, but did not hide from and which had been what urged him to carry on the battle to save Gal'azu. I am looking forward to our 4th and last episode in Og-Grim-Dog's saga as much as I am sure the scribe and the clients of the Flayed Testicles are too as I am sure we are in for a great ending.
Another riveting book in the Me Three series. Og-Grim-Dog and his friends have left one war, only to be confronted by an even more deadly threat. Plenty of action, hysterically funny, and a lot of twists and turns that kept me engrossed from the first page to the last. Fascinating characters! Og-Grim-Dog, and his diverse group of friends are on a mission to solve the mystery of the latest deadly threat, and to save their world. Fantastic book!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Received as an arc. This book is much darker than the other two. Our favorite 3 headed ogre is at it again with help from his friends but sometimes the way you want things to turn out doesn’t exactly go as planned. A great read that will keep you glued to the pages.
Edmundson has written another entertaining book. This one isn’t as fun as the other two, it is more serious. This book feels like a fantasy “The Walking Dead”, in fact there is even a scene that reminded me of a gruesome Neegan scene from the show. But like his other works, this book is like a rock that lives in a flowing river, very smooth and polished. It is a quick easy read and I would recommend all of the Og-Grim-Dog books. They are engaging and well done.
My favorite line is at the END CREDITS: “It’s going to be a lone wolf story, eh?”
I've been a fan of this series since I read book one, and honestly, I would have read them all much more quickly had everything else not gotten in the way. Fortunately, the characters are so memorable that I had no trouble picking up where I left off in the welcoming haunt that now feels like home. Yes, I'm talking of course about The Flayed Testicles...
Still following, what at-least for me feels like a Name of the Wind-unreliable-narrator-parody, Og-Grim-Dog, our friendly neighbourhood three-headed ogre continues to recount his tale. While I found Book two much darker than book one, this book takes the story in a new direction, utilising very nicely a zombie apocalypse horror trope. (Think walking dead with better acting ;p). As this is Book three, I can't reveal too much for fear of spoilers. Needless to say, all the things that were enjoyable about the previous instalments are here. Humour (sometimes dark, sometimes tongue-in-cheek); fun, memorable characters; a fast paced plot which drives the saga towards its nearing conclusion, and plenty of action and death! If you've a penchant for humorous fantasy or parodies, or are just looking for a fun read, I'd highly recommend starting this journey! I'm looking forward to finding out how the author wraps up the story in the fourth, and what I presume to be, final book.
I love this series, it's so much fun and the quality hasn't waned even a bit across the first three books.
It's a kind of light-hearted, satirical look at society and its workings while subtly delivering a quite profound message of acceptance, friendship, loyalty, and all those other feelings that make us feel warm and fuzzy, while fighting evil and zombies, and evil zombies (aka draugr).
There's a perfect balance of darkness, light, and silly that had me chuckling and gasping for all the right reasons. A very entertaining read.
Another fine story with only a few plot holes. Og grim dog fight a zombie apocalypse and lose one by one. Enough goblins and zombies can win the day. Next novel finishes the series with a happy ending?
I've got the omnibus with the four books in the series. And let's be clear, it's a series, one book it's not enough. You'll want all of them, and more if possible (when "the nefarious exploits of Wro'Kuburni'-Dy-Hrath'Simbowa: dark elf, henchman and arch-villain"? and the prequel?)
Anyway, I'm not going to say it's hilarious (maybe because I'm a bit old and rusty in the laughing business, plus Spanish so probably miss several jokes) but it's very funny and I laughed. If you like classic fantasy adventures like dungeons & dragons, you'll love it. And you'll find a lot of references to so many stories, series and films.
Very original, well explained and without neverending battles. It has sweet and sour moments, all of them worthy. A bit short of magic at the beginning, but it has enough at the end.
The walking dead in fantasy, every thing is possible and somehow funny.
This was straight up an adventure story without much in the way of satire and humor of the previous two novellas. It was much more dramatic with a good bit of tragedy. It was still rather good, though, and it carried the story of the characters on very well. It stayed true to the characterizations that were built up before and, although the tone wasn't lighthearted, it read with the similar ease as the others. I'm not sure that this is what I'd have wanted to read from the beginning, but the first two novellas did a good job of making me care enough about the characters to really get into it.
"OG-Grim-Dog and the War of the Dead" deserves nothing less than a solid 5-star rating! This book took the series to a whole new level of darkness and action that left me thoroughly gripped from start to finish. The unexpected deaths kept me on the edge of my seat, and although they were heart-wrenching, they added a layer of realism and intensity to the story. The way the world around Og-Grim-Dog disintegrated added to the apocalyptic atmosphere and made their survival all the more thrilling to witness. I can't wait to dive into the fourth and final installment of this incredible series to see how it all concludes. "Fight the Dead, Fear the Ogre" indeed!
