This is an anthology containing 35 short stories. These are popular short stories written by authors like D H Lawrence, Dostevsky, Henry James, Rudyard Kipling, Oscar Wilde, etc.
Various is the correct author for any book with multiple unknown authors, and is acceptable for books with multiple known authors, especially if not all are known or the list is very long (over 50).
If an editor is known, however, Various is not necessary. List the name of the editor as the primary author (with role "editor"). Contributing authors' names follow it.
Note: WorldCat is an excellent resource for finding author information and contents of anthologies.
I like short stories. They are little treats that you can wholeheartedly enjoy in a single sitting. And you never know what is coming your way, it might be a love-story, a horror story, a story that leaves you admiring the intellect of the author, a hilarious account of something, or it could just be a mundane incident brought to life by the way it is presented. There is no blurb to a short story so it’s always a surprise. The title of this anthology claims that the stories bound together are the ‘world’s greatest’ short stories. After reading most of them, I would have a hard time defending that assertion. Stories I loved: The First Class Passenger, Simon’s Papa, Time Locker, Cabuliwallah. Stories I couldn’t get myself to finish: The Balloon Hoax, The Country Doctor, How Daddy Played Hoss, Gods in Exile, The Higher Abdication, The Lagoon, Christmas Eve. There were 35 stories in this book and most of them were good, not extraordinary, certainly not the greatest. The cover of this book is really beautiful.
