A trending Instagram artist brightens our outlook with sunny artwork—and real-world wisdom
Sometimes it feels as though we’re the only ones struggling. We compare our wobbly days to a constant stream of shiny social media photos. You Are Positively Awesome is a reminder that we, too, deserve attention and kindness—and that no one has it together all the time. Full of friendly advice, this colorful little book will help you:
- Develop self-compassion (even on stormy days) - Set boundaries that are kind to yourself and others - Separate worth from wealth, age, and relationship status - And shine like the twinkletastic star you are!
Stacie Swift is an illustrator, author, coffee drinker and mum to three lovely little ones, Matilda, Arthur and Maisie.
Focusing on positivity, self-care and mental wellbeing, Stacie’s illustrations are a colourful combination of hand drawn images and type. Clients include Feel Unique in collaboration with Mind, Grammarly, The Blurt Foundation and IT Cosmetics. Stacie’s versatile designs can be found on everything from social media content to pin badges and playing cards.
By combining her bold artwork with relatable and honest captions Stacie has grown a loyal (and very lovely) Instagram following of over over 230,000 people. She loves content creation and is happy to work with clients on fun and relevant projects.
A beautifully presented insight into the workings of our wellbeing. Helping us understand that the feelings we find ourselves feeling are perfectly acceptable. Giving hints and tips of how to look at situations and giving a positive outcome on things.
I'd recommend getting this in the print version as the Kindle version doesn't work quite as well. As the print copy enables you to draw and get involved with the activities within the book.
Absolutely perfect, as someone who suffers from self esteem and anxiety issues (pre COVID) this book is a heaven sent gift. Bright, friendly and inviting, it draws you in and makes you want to read it. This is full of positivity, it feels empowering on a bad day to pick this up and remind yourself that you are important, you are strong and loved. These are affirmations we all need to hear, all of us, this book as well as amazing for people who struggle would also be a perfect gift for others too.
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion
This book just speaks to me so much and I did not even know I needed it that much when I picked it up at the library.
In February this year, I received a piece of devastating news and my world just shattered. As despondent as I was, anger consumed me with the same ferocity. I hated how the news was communicated to me via text, down to its very tone.
I had a new set of responsibilities to shoulder overnight and I began to prioritise my needs last. I was swamped — I became selective in my text responses while I directed my focus and energy on hospital bills, insurance plans, and caring for my grandparents.
Days blurred into weeks and weeks blurred into months. Juggling responsibilities both at home and at work simultaneously saw me blurting out “I am so tired” unconsciously at times. The unsolicited advice of sleeping early did nothing to chase away the heavy clouds of fatigue that weighed on my mind. If anything, I felt more alone than ever.
People that I counted on to be understanding disappointed me. They could not understand why I had to shoulder such huge responsibilities. When I finally had pockets of time for myself, I was nudged to meet the needs of others.
So when I say Swift spoke to me in her book, she did. “It’s okay to prioritize our own needs without justification or excuses. We are not selfish for practising self-care — our energy, time and feelings are worth protecting.” This line is not so much to remind me as it is to inform others that hey, Shirley is going to take some time off for herself and your unsolicited advice is unwelcome.
Thank you Swift for your book and for the words you spoke to me as a friend.
This is a really cute, positive, upbeat and encouraging book.
It doesn't translate fully into Kindle format given that, in print format, it would have little activity bits to fill in for you to look back on and give yourself a boost. I would definitely be interested in purchasing a physical copy to fill in!
The positivity is by the bucketful in this book and Stacie writes beautifully. It's so uplifting and I feel like it would be one of those books you'd gift to a friend for their birthday or Christmas. It focuses so much on feeling positive about yourself, remembering that you are loved, acknowledging that it's okay not to be okay and that people's lives that we see on social media aren't always sunshine and rainbows.
It's a reminder that self-care isn't selfish, take time for yourself, say "no" more and just be kind.
I read this book in bed last night and I have to say I thought it was brilliant!
there were pages in the book, particularly the ones on self-care that really shouted out at me, I know I don't do this anywhere enough.
I alway put everyone else first too and after reading this book now I am determined to help myself - I loved the positive messages, the sheets to fill in and the images were great and ones to treasure, very bright and colourful, exactly how they should be for this kind of book too.
This is a book that I will treasure and read over and over, it was excellent, packed with lovely images and such a positive read - 5 stars from me - very highly recommended and I have already told a colleague at work to get herself a copy!!
I gave this book to my mom for Christmas, after loosing her husband, my father. She called me the next day and couldn't stop raving how this was exactly what she needed at this moment. I love Stacie's designs and the presentation of the book. I ended up buying myself a copy too!
This is a cute little book that is a little pick-me-up when you need it. It has bright colourful illustrations that adds to the charm. Each page is it's own work of art. There are examples of ways you can change your thought process, little reminders to remind you that you're not alone, and little sections you can fill out yourself. Although there will be a kindle version available, I'd recommend getting the printed version. You can either fill it out there or stick post-it notes over the bits, so you can fill it out again in the future.
I know that my kindle is only black and white, and although I read this on my kindle first, I downloaded the ARC of this onto my computer so I could comment on the illustrations and it's a whole different book. The colours are so bright and friendly. The illustrations are warming and cute. I think this is definitely a book that needs a physical copy.
I would love to see teens receiving this book as I feel like they could benefit from it a lot, although this would also be a great book for anyone of any age.
Whilst the formatting didn't quite translate to audiobook, I really enjoyed reading this book. Swift has the most gorgeous, bright illustrations and the most uplifting messages. I loved being able to complete tasks which made me more aware of ways to care for and appreciate myself.
This book is so needed in today's society, in the midst of a lock down and whilst people criticise themselves and compare themselves to others, Though it had a clear flow, you could easily dip in and out of this book as you needed.
Even though I've read it through already, I would 100% buy myself a copy to properly fill out the tasks and have a physical copy to turn to.
Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and Swift for providing a copy for review.
I loved this book. I want a physical copy of this book as soon as possible. I loved the bright colours and postivecqoutes it was fun. It doesn't translate on e book format but I sat down with a notebook and did the prompts it really did help me especially the section in saying no. This book was perfect to read during this time. It should be on any ones reference shelf to come back to. Every self care book should be like this one. I defiantly will be buying a physical copy. The cover is brilliant. Recommend to everyone. 5 out of 5 as it really helped me today and my Aspergers. Thank you Netgalley the publishers and Stacie Swift for the e copy to read and review.
This book is so cute! I love the positive ‘pick me up’ messages and bits for you to fill in yourself (obviously in the physical copy) I don’t have much to say as it is a kind of ‘do it yourself’ book. The only downside I found was that it didn’t translate well into an e-book, the writing was jumbled in parts and was quite hard to read. But I’m sure the physical copy is beautiful! I’d definitely recommend you buying yourself a copy if you need some positivity in your life!
This is a beautiful pick me up in book form. It is a bright, colourful bundle of positivity and confidence boosting goodness. This book will lift you on your toughest days and remind you that you are positively awesome!
