I really enjoyed Stay A Little Longer. It was sexy with just the right amount of drama. Serena and Blake were two people who weren't looking for love but love found them anyway and, unfortunately, not at the right time. When Blake meets Serena, he's already applied for a new position within his company at a different location. Once he and Serena start getting hot and heavy, he gets the job and is planning to move to San Francisco. Serena, of course, is heartbroken because she did exactly what she said she wouldn't do. She fell in love with a man who's pretty much unavailable. Serena was willing to try to make things work through long distance but, Blake nipped that in the bud. He did not want a long distance relationship. The way he handled things towards the end was shytty. Wining and dining her for her birthday weekend did nothing but give Serena false hope. So, I completely understand why she was so pissed off and cut off all communication with Blake. I have to say, I did not see that ending coming but I should have. Chiiiiiile, talk about a cliffhanger! It’s been years since I’ve listened to a book narrated by Shari Peele and I see nothing has change. Her performance was horrible. It was flat, dry, and monotonous, you couldn’t distinguish the female characters from the male characters, and she brought absolutely no life into any of the characters. The sex scenes were unbelievably cringy. They came off as very juvenile when she read them. And, we won’t even talk about that incessant azz swallowing she did throughout the entire book. It was so gross to listen to. The constant swallowing made my skin crawl. Shari Peele has over 20 years in the game as a narrator so, you mean to tell she hasn’t figured out how to control that?!!! She has been added to the list of narrators I will NOT listen to. Matter of fact, I’m not even listen to book two. I’ll just read it. Aside from the bad narrator, Stay A Little Longer was an excellent read. The storyline and character development were spot on. I can't wait to see what's in store for Serena and Blake in book two.
This Is Such A Gooooood story....I can't wait for book 2.....I Love this author's writing style and that's exactly what helped me get through this story....the comradery of the friends (Serena & Kira and Blake & Neef) is reminiscent of real life friendships. Both Blake & Serena have feelings for one another and they didn't mean to feel for each other the way they do because it was also known that Blake had career plans that didn't include him continuing to live in Philly. Watching this relationship blossom and the dynamic amongst the friends is truly entertaining....this story is definitely a five ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ star to me if it not for the narration. Shari Peele is definitely a hit or miss for me with narration and this time she missed...all of the smacking and swallowing she did during her narration really got on my damn nerves. In addition, to her telling this story so flatly....she didn't inflect or put inference on any of the words to tell the story. Because of this author's writing style, I was able to see (listen) pass that damn noise and the lack of acting to really understand and enjoy the story. I have my Holy Trinity of Narrators and Unfortunately, they can't narrate every book/author I love...But, I am invested in this story and eagerly await book 2.....I'm hoping for Neef & Kira's audiobook (Minus Shari Peele).
Serena and Blake are both at turning points in their lives when their orbits collide. Serena is getting ready to graduate from law school and Blake has recently graduated with his Doctorate and is making moves at his Engineering job. They are both busy and the timing isn't the best for this situationship they have going on, but neither can deny the pull they have on each other. When an opportunity comes up to further his career, Blake takes it. Despite his feelings for Serena he feels it's best to let her go. He chooses himself and it almost felt like he was scared to be rejected or to lose her so he makes the decision for both of them to move forward as friends. However, Serena wasn't feeling the friends bs so what could have been a great love is cut short. So we think....
I loved the black excellence that was displayed. There was a solid balance of relationship building and friendship. We got just enough of the sub characters to make it interesting. While editing could have been tighter I liked the story and am eager to read the next book.
2.5 stars. This book was a bit boring and cliche. I also don’t think it needed to be a duet. It could have been a 300 page book. Serena met Blake at bar in PA and they embarked on a short term relationship because Serena was in law school and Blake had a job opportunity out in CA. The plan was to not fall in love but the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Blake had to make a hard choice of whether to leave Pennsylvania and Serena, even though it was clear they had fallen in love or does he move to CA for a career opportunity of a lifetime?
The writing didn’t endear me to the story nor the characters. The sex scenes felt more crass than sexy. I wanted more emotionally engaging dialogue between Serena and Blake. I will read book 2 but I already know where this is going and wished she won’t give him another shot.
They met at a club. Both driven by goals. They never put a title on it. They were getting to know each other. Having fun. Sharing their bodies. But then feelings got involved even though they never spoke on it. She never expected to fall. He never expected to admit in the end that he loved her. A promotion 3000 miles away. They end things. One year later and surprises are revealed.
This was such a good story. Watching how they became friends and then lovers to letting each other go. WHEW!!! I was invested.
Because this story was so good, I read this book in one afternoon. It was well crafted and held my attention throughout the story. Serena Howard and Blake were two educated people who found love unexpectedly. The prologue told us they would have a breakdown in communication along the way, and man was it ever a doozy...The cliffhanger ending didn't bother me too much. The story had so much potential, I'll be back to see this one through to the ending.
This book was really good. The relationship between Serena and Blake was everything. I thought the flow of the story was good. I'm definitely reading part 2 to see how everything play out.
This was a great read. It was well written and the story details were well developed and enticing as I read each page. I was drawn into the characters lives and I really wanted to shake Serena and Kira. Yet, matters of the heart and lust of the flesh are things that make us moan. It is not always the male who makes advances and I like how the author was clever in making the female initiate moves. I hope Part 2 gives the reader more on Kira. Great start in your writing journal.
Great debut for the author. I enjoyed Blake and Serena’s story and I need part 2 and Kira and Haneef’s story ASAP. Can’t wait to read more of her work.
I loved everything about this book. It snatched me from the beginning and left me with shocked. I love a book were you are routing for the characters and can feel their chemistry through the pages and this was it. Serena and Blake were career goal focused people and didnt have time for dating and falling in love, but after meeting one night all of that changed. Blake took it slow because he knew he didnt want a relationship because he wanted to relocate. Serena just didnt want to lose focus on finishing her degree, but the heart wants what the heart wants. Blake and Serena hung out, but their feelings started to change and Serena wanted more, but that wasnt in the plans. After finally achieved his dream, Blake told Serena he only wanted to be friends and Serena wasnt happy. They parted ways, but after coming back home for a visit after a year away, Blake received a surprise he wasnt expecting. All I can day is go read this book!!! This is my first book by this author, but it will not be my last. I cant wait to see what happens next!!!
I’m in a state of shock. This story had me enthralled from the beginning admiring the nuances of a sweet budding romance but it was the twist that comes having me feeling some kinda way.
Serena and Blake will send you on a roller coaster ride of emotional excitement, lust, passion, sadness, hurt and pain. You’ll route for them not knowing if they’ll make something outta nothing.
The way the author pulls you in and seduces you with an internal longing of the perfect love of girl meets boy, there’s that twist that slaps you across the face making you wake up to the reality of life happening to two individuals who make no promises to each other while feelings creep in and embeds itself in everything.
The story is very well written with articulate and intelligent characters who make adult decisions based on fact not fantasy. I highly suggest this story especially if you love love.
I knew it! I knew it was gonna be a continuation, the book was very good. The way you showed a man and woman that were dealing with their careers and even though they liked each other Blake was upfront with Serena telling her what he wanted in his career because he didn't want to stay in Philly. But by the time he realized he loved her it seems to be too late. I knew that she had a baby before Blake's cousin said it. I can't wait for part two.
This book was intense full of FIYAH coming off of these pages
This book was intense full of FIYAH coming off of these pages. Serena & Blake’s story had me turning pages without out stopping. The bonus story was Kira and Haneef, I was just as excited to read about their story as well. I am so glad that the next book is out in the series. Opening up Stay Forever to see what transpires between the two couples.
Uhmmm Why didn't I see the cliffhanger coming... The story was different and I will say I was really feeling the first half...then the book Bae turned into another character almost and although I loved Serena and Kira at times is was more needed from them and a few holes that did make a full connection. I will be reading book 2 and I hope Ki gets some love in book 2 and Rena has a real grown woman moment on Blake.
This is an awesome debut novel by this author. A well developed storyline, that kept my interest from start to finish. An awesome read for me has well developed characters : Blake and Serena and best friends Kira and Haneef that you fall in love with. I highly recommend this book. Can't wait for the next installment.
Loved the story from beginning to end even though it's a hanger it was a good one. Now i can't wait to read the next install about them with kid in tow. Blake is very pissed at her for this wool over his eye but he did leave her to pursue his dreams so she let him live his life as he wanted. Now for the breakdown I'm waiting.
What a ride. This book does not let up on you from the very beginning. Serena and Blake are two people who are playing a dangerous game with their feelings for each other. Between the back and forth between these two and the story for Kira and Haneef, there is not a dull moment in this story…now I gotta go, part two is waiting for me….whew!!
I love the way the author wrote this book and how she broke down how everything with the time Line...Kira need to get her life together and give haneef a chance now on to Serena me and Blake need some answers like how you hide a whole baby from him
This book was unlike any I’ve read. I’ve been looking for something to keep my attention and I’ve finally found it!! Can’t wait for part 2!! Congratulations on your debut release!! ❤️
This book was an excellent read and reads as a real life experience. I love the chemistry between Blake and Serena and cant wait to see whats going to happen next since she opened the door with their baby. Kira and Kaneef need to let us in on their secret love I hope they can get it together in part 2 as well.
Serena was wrong for not telling Blake about their daughter. Blake should of been left her alone when he realized they both wanted more and he knew he was leaving. Neef tried with Kira
I did not expect this ending. Blake and Serena had chemistry that neither experienced before. It was a match made in heaven. Until he got a promotion miles away. This was an easy read that ends on a cliff hanger. So I have to be in the lookout for part two. This was a descent read.
This was a new to me author and I really enjoyed part one of this series.. I really wished Blake had of continued what they had doing on because it was obvious that both were feeling one another! The writing was good just a few error here and there.. like come back cum but overall it was good
I absolutely loved this story Blake fell in love with Serena but he knew he was moving away and he was afraid of a long distance relationship but he left something life changing behind. Hurry up part 2
