Cale delivers in this first installment of the series, offering classic romance writing, uniquely developed protagonists, and plenty of fun fantasy twists." Self-Publishing Review, ★★★★½
AN IRREDEEMABLE 'HERO' JUST DOESN'T WORK FOR ME...
In my opinion, the 'hero' of this book, Quinn, is the sort of man I hope will never be allowed to be romantic heroes... Because there is nothing romantic or heroic about him. I could perhaps have liked this book if Quinn had actually just been a rake and not a would-be-rapist. But that wasn't the case. And I can't forgive or tolerate something like that.
👎 What I Disliked 👎
Quinn: At the beginning of this book, Quinn blames the mermaid Lorelei for the sinking of his ship. As retaliation, Quinn plans to rape Lorelei and keep her prisoner on a deserted island forever. Yeah, that doesn't exactly sound like a hero to me. What struck me as most bizarre is that when Quinn is contemplating this rape, he says that he could never harm a woman - here he apparently only talks about hitting a woman, because apparently violent rape is not 'hurting' a woman... How screwed up is that!
Lust: As I see it there is no love in this book. It is all pure lust. Maybe there would have been love if Cale had seen fit to add actual romantic scenes in stead of just smut. But she didn't. I honestly believe that this was a case of Stockholm Syndrome Lust.
Quinn: Yes, Quinn deserves another mention because he revolted me time and time again. Aside from planning to rape Lorelei he also lies and blackmails her into having sex with him, pushing her into a corner where her only option is to let him do with her what he wants. And then he berates her for it too, after they've supposedly fallen in love. I just wanted to vomit at that point.
ARC provided by the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review
I would like to start by saying Kimberly Cale is such a talented and exemplary author! Caught is a fantasy romance about a pirate and a mermaid. If you remove most of the subplots, it is a simple love story. In fact, it involves a trope I tremendously adore: enemies to lovers. But what I absolutely loved about this story is how it dangles between slow burn and insta-love. Yes, they hated each other at first, but the attraction was there, and Cale exactly knew how to ignite it at all the right times. I read the whole book in precisely two hours. The first sentence alone hooked me in (no pun intended), and I literally could not stop until I was on the final page. Given that Caught is only around 200 pages, the story is fast-paced and doesn't get bogged down on useless monologues or irrelevant facts. It gets right down to business. Lorelei is a great heroine. She's beautiful, smart, and cunning – a perfect description of a mermaid, but what sets her apart from the rest of her kind is her heart. It's pure and incorrupt. Quinn is much more complicated. He is damaged, beaten, and weathered, but the author weaves his character development in every chapter, and before you know it, he's a completely changed man. Caught is a fun read for anyone who loves a fast-paced, intriguing, and steamy love story. It will make you fall in love with the characters faster than they do. I highly recommend it!
An engaging and compelling story that plays on the traditional relationship between ocean-faring pirates and the mythical sirens of the sea. A beautiful romance that emerges after a pirate is marooned with the beautiful mermaid; this story is a page turner and will knock you out of the water!
Definitely great read for someone looking for something a little lighter, and just a little on the escapist side of fiction.
Before I begin my review for Caught: Sea Temptress #1 by Kimberley Cale, I would personally like to thank the author, the publishers and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this ARC and I have reviewed it honestly.
Fans of Daughter of the Pirate King and To Kill a Kingdom will adore this epic new mermaid and pirate tale. Enjoy a smouldering, enemies to lovers, love affair and a magical mixture of mythology and Greek Gods as our bewitching protagonists overcome mistrust and loyalties.
Caught features, but is not limited to, the following themes: ○ NA fantasy romance ○ Mermaids/sirens ○ Pirates ○ Enemies to lovers ○ Mythology ○ Greek Gods ○ Smut
My overall rating for Caught is…
5 Stars!
I always, always, ALWAYS love a good mermaid/siren love story! Add a ruthless pirate intent on devouring his evil yet beautiful, captive mermaid, this book was sexy, sweet and seductive. Beautifully written and unique in its story, this book is an absolutely MUST read.
Caught, the first book in the Sea Temptress Series, is the story of Lorelei, a mermaid who falls in love with her pirate captor. Quinn, the captain of a sunken pirate ship, mistakenly blames Lorelei for his ship’s demise. Though he is determined to punish her for the death of his crew and loss of his ship, Quinn doesn’t expect to fall for the enchanting woman.
Lorelei is betrothed to a ruthless, murderous siren, and her only desire is to find a way to break the engagement, save her sisters from the same demise, and escape from her father Poseidon’s clutches. Is she willing to risk everything for the man who captured her? Will Quinn put his misgivings and preconceived notions about women to protect Lorelei?
This is an engaging mermaid romance with well-developed, complex protagonists. Lorelei’s relationship with her sisters is one of my favorite parts of the book. Lorelei sacrifices so much to protect her sisters, and her love for them is strong and true, as is their love for her. Lorelei’s trust in and protection of her sisters says a lot about her character.
Quinn’s character is a bit more difficult to love, especially at the start of the story. His years as a pirate have hardened him, and his thirst for revenge blinds him. I like that Lorelei’s strength of character breaks through Quinn’s emotional barriers. She makes Quinn want to be a better man. Of all the characters in the story, Quinn shows the most growth.
The mythology and mermaid lore as well as the supernatural elements of the story, are also interesting. I like how the author weaves Greek mythology into the story and puts a fresh spin on well-known gods and mythical creatures. Poseidon, mermaids, sirens, fairies, and more are presented with a unique and interesting spin.
There is talk of sexual assault early in the story. While seeking vengeance, Quinn intends to have sex with Lorelei, whether she wants to or not. Though he doesn’t follow through, this part might trigger readers. Also, Lorelei agrees to have sex with Quinn as part of a deal and while held captive. Though not forced, Lorelei sleeps with Quinn after he lies to her. Though their relationship quickly turns to one of love and passion, it starts under dubious circumstances.
Thanks so much to Netgalley and the author for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
I loved this book. It was magic and romance, myth, action, humor and so much more. I couldn’t put it down once I started.
Quinn
I loved how Quinn grew throughout the story. First he was all anger when his ship was destroyed and his crew was gone. He was ready to do the unthinkable but even when it came down to trying to carry out his plans for her he finds out he’s not capable of forcing a woman and rages a steamy seduction instead. Scarred from past betrayals, it took him awhile to see the light but even when he didn’t trust the heroine he saved her time and time again. Lorelei She was an incredible heroine. Strong, resourceful and she had an incredible loyalty for her sisters and eventually Quinn. I also liked how she called Quinn on his distrust issues. the part where she was staring out at the ocean was just heartbreaking. And what she did for him at the end…Wow. There were a lot of steamy scenes between the pair that showed just how much chemistry they had together. Beyond the beautiful romance I really enjoyed the story full of twists and turns. The sirens and their background was a very creative and cleverly added to the novel. I also loved the myths and world building. I would definitely recommend this novel.

SEXY! Loved the romance between the mermaid and her pirate. I could not put this book down. Cale really does deliver in this beautiful and spicy romance between the two main characters. I sincerely hope the second book to the series comes out soon. This is a book I will read again and again.
I was in a mood for a mermaid book when I came across "Caught" by Kimberley Cale. I started it expecting some sort of romance story (it's promised in the title after all), sadly that wasn't really the case at all.
DNF at Chapter 7/15.
The writing itself wasn't the worst I've encountered, especially considering all the awful books I've unfortunately read in 2020. The hero (The Almighty pirate) was just a big NOPE, he was just so BAD. Assaulting douche type of bad. I just can't..
The Plot: The heroine (Lorelei, an Ariel lookalike- very unsettling, considering you see her getting assaulted, why ruin my childhood like that?! *cries*) is a mermaid that loves her sisters and wants to save them from having to marry an abusive male siren by agreeing to marry him herself. She gets caught by Almighty Captain Quinn after sirens sink his ship and kill his crew. He's dead set on making her pay because he believes she's actually the leader so he kidnapps her and plans on avenging his mates by killing her. Surprise, suprise, Quinn for some reason doesn't have to balls to kill her, so he changes the plan to keeping her for his sexual entertaiment (no care about her consent) while he's stuck on the island without a ship. He just doesn't want be alone & happens to fancy said mermaid's curves. *ew* His whole scheme depends on a little story he heard from one of his drunk crewmates: that he should take a mermaid out of the water, keep her on dry land in the moonlight or something, once she gets her legs he HAS to keep "filling her with his seed" without missing a day so she doesn't return her tail once she goes into the sea.Who made up these rules? They sound like the fantasy of some sex depraved sailor, ngl. Quinn absolutely believes that story & sets his plan in motion. He tries to tell us how he's not one about hurting human females even if they ask him while in bed and he's absolutely not into rape. But... these are just empty words.
The red flags: - Quinn refuses to hear Lorelei when she tries multiple times to tell him she's not the one responsible for his ship sinking. He says all women are basically liars, evil wenches. Gotta love such hero.
- Once Almigthy decides he just doesn't have it in him to kill her because she's a female, he settles for having her body as payment for killing his people. Who is he to decide he need to be paid for others dying? The moment she gets her legs he pounces, not giving a fuck she's not willing, he gets to a point of being on top of her, restraining her, she's visibly clearly not "enjoying herself". He reads her reaction as "being angry" (biting him when he kisses her without her CONSENT) so he just keeps going, but then hears a "small, frightened cry" from Lorelei whic makes him stop. Quinn realizes he's not into rape either, he wants her to be a willing "sexual slave" (does he know what a slave is?). The king of plans now has a new plan: seduce Lorelei by basically getting her Stockholm syndromed so she willingly lets him bone her. He also tells us how he would just leave her brokenhearted once a ship shows up to save him & he would lie to her he would one day return. What a romance. Right? I don't want much from the heroes, just for them not to be complete douchebags, why is it so damn hard?!
- There are multiple scenes of him ogling her naked body, slapping her arse while he carries her without her consent, talking how he plans on using said body, tying her up. He touches her without permission a lot. It's freaking uncomfortable! Just because he's a pirate doesn't make it acceptable to make him borderline rapey, considering this is a ROMANCE NOVEL.
- Once he traps her into having legs, he sees her distress and he's super dismissive of it, he thinks she's overreacting over losing her tail and finds it all amusing. I ask, how will he react if she CUT OFF HIS LEGS OR HIS PENIS? Since he cares a lot about his 9-incher. And yes, he doesn't miss the opportunity to tells us how his penis is 9 inches. Like that's a personal trait.
- Hero wants to immediately get laid once they make a deal he would "help" her find a treasure in exchange for her giving his body to him for a month. He lies the whole time.
The Plot holes/mistakes/things that make no sense: - THE SIRENS: for a book that relies heavily on Greek mythology (Lorelei's father is Poseidon, she talks about the slaying of Cronus), this book depicts sirens wrong (heroine is a mermaid & tells us how she swims along with sirens, that are the evil species), in Greek mythology this is what sirens are: "Half-birds, half beautiful maidens, the Sirens were singing enchantresses capable of luring passing sailors to their islands, and, subsequently, to their doom. Daughters of the river god Achelous and a Muse, they were fated to die if anyone should survive their singing." So I ask, how is a half-bird, half-maiden swimming in the sea with a mermaid?
- MORE DETAILS ABOUT THE SIRENS: The whole siren species have just ONE MALE. He's super evil & is to marry Lorelei, she tells us how she heard he's not into using his charm when it comes to his brides, he just nibbles at them with his sharp teeth while he assaults them to get them pregnant. Supposedly no bride actually survives that. And she also says she heard that sirens eat the small ones before they even leave the womb. So my question is: how did their kind survive then? How are there any sirens left, when Ruin "The Biter" kills all his brides that can potentially produce heirs and the other eat the unborn ones too? How is this making any sense? - Heroine's choice is between Ruin and Quinn, so she easily agrees to anything Quinn suggest because she's desperate to save her sisters and stop Ruin. This is not romance. She has no other choice & would sacrifice herself for the people she loves (the sisters). Both Ruin & Quinn are abusers. Just because the pirate is the "lesser evil" doesn't make him a good love interest.
Quotes to show what kind of hero Quinn is:
"And wouldn't it be the ultimate revenge to have her lusting after him? He'd turn her into his own sexual slave. He just needed a chance, and for that, he needed her to stop fighting him." It's disturbing that this is considered romance.
"Now he'd string her along and see where it led." He plans on acting like he's gonna help her get the treasure she's searching for on the island so he gets laid.
"He wouldn't force her, but he wasn't above a little teasing as long as she didn't make that fearful sound again." Said teasing involves him playing with her body without HER CONSENT.
""I'll help ye," he lied, because he wouldn't, not at all. The only one he would help would be himself. First to her, and then to whatever treasure there was to be found. ... "Startin' at first light". At first light, he'd be deep inside of her." He's just disgusting.
(Quinn trying to convince Lorelei to let him bone her) "Things got out of hand. It won't be like before. I thought you were just angry not-". (scared for her life?) What's the difference?! In both instances she would be not up to sleep with Quinn?
(Says how he wouldn't do anything she won't like) "In fact, if I can't make ye we and wantin', I promise to let you go this very night," he lied like the pirate he was."
"He'd have her eaing out of his hands. She'd give up her freedom to him willingly, something he would never forfeit to another. Once done, he would keep her here by his side, at least, until he found a new way off this spit of land. Then he would leave her behind, to return to her ocean and mourn his loss, all the while promising to return to her, but of course he never would." Ah, so romantic.
I'm honestly so sick of heroes that would do anything to manipulate/gaslight the heroine into sleeping with them or ones that clearly don't even care if she would enjoy any of it. I'm so over these romance novels with trashy, abusive heroes that are anything but romantic & try to make a fantasy out of rape and sexual assault. No matter if the heroine ends up enjoying something, the whole thing started without CONSENT & can't NEVER, EVER be EXCUSED or written off as okay because she ENDED UP ENJOYING HERSELF. Especially when we can clearly see said heroine is just accepting her situation and going with it to save somebody she loves.
Needless to say, I don't recommend "Caught". This book would ruin your childhood if you ever saw the Little Mermaid. The hero is an abusive depraved POS that traps the heroine, steals her tail and lies & manipulates her non-stop. There's no romance, no chemistry, all you get is rapey scenes and bad depiction of Greek mythology.
Wow I devoured this book in one sitting. I loved the Romance between these two characters. I've been a little frustrated trying to find a book worth reviewing, This one is what I've been looking for in a feel good romance. Sometimes I'll get bored with a story half way through but the second half just as good if not better than the first. Lorelei's relationship with her sisters was touching and Quinn yeah he was wrong in all the right ways and Lorelei was just the right Heroine to make him see the error of his ways. You know it's a great book when you're sad when it ends. even though this can be read as a stand alone which I like I'm still looking forward to Cale's next one in the series. I hope she doesn't keep me waiting long.
A Mermaid and a pirate. Lorelei and Quinn, the two unlikeliest pair, yet the one who were right together.
The story went thus. Quinn was shipwrecked and he blamed Lorelei. Together they went to the forbidden island, rather Lorelei was Quinn’s prisoner. Both had a past and lorelei’s father, Poseidon, wanted to marry her off for his nefarious reasons. Lorelei and her sisters needed to find a solution, and Quinn was it.
A powerful debut by author Kimberly Cale, I found both the characters quite interesting and powerful, especially in the latter scenes. But it was to Lorelei that I was drawn to. The author had etched her character with a loving hand, making her both strong and vulnerable.
Love between the two blosommed slowly, but it demanded great sacrifices. Magic played its part and mythology paved its way. Some even coursed through the mighty waves, some appeared in the middle of the woods.
Emotions were written with a deft hand, light yet poignant. The chemistry between the main characters was sensuous and romantic. The alternate play between the fun filled and intense scenes hit me hard, but the author never allowed it to go overboard.
Plot twists and action along with sisterly bonds and magic made this book UNPUTDOWNABLE
Ok, I am in love with this historical romance/PNR! Unique storyline, fiery chemistry, smoldering personalities and a adventurous ride that will leave a reader on the edge of their seats!
I was pleasantly surprised to find myself enchanted and on the edge of my seat with this new to me author's book. The story kept me entertained from start to finish, not fully knowing where it was going to go. I read this book in just a couple days and thought about it every time I put it down to go do a chore or to make dinner. Its not very often anymore I get fully distracted by a book. I like that. this story isn't something you read often and that held a LOT of appeal for me. That and I have been fascinated with mermaids since I was a little girl and I seen The Little Mermaid. This is a definite adult themed story but my goodness, it was a thrilling one! I can't wait to read the second one.
Caught gets a INTRIGUING FOUR EXCITING AND FRESH STARS!
Quinn O'Connor is pirate captain of The Mayhem, until sirens wreck his ship and lure is crew to their watery graves. All Quinn wants now is revenge and if taking a siren captive is what it takes then so be it. When Lorelei awakens on an island, she knows her life is over. She can't survive on land, no mermaid can. When her captor tells her a tall tale about how mermaids become human, she stares at him in disbelief. Unfortunately, the tale becomes true. The misfit pair, a pirate and a mermaid, soon turn their hatred for one another into something else after Lorelei makes a deal - her body for his help to find a treasure on the island on which they currently are stranded. After the treasure it found, will Quinn keep his part of the bargain and will Lorelei not only turn back into a mermaid but be able to save her sisters and herself from her dangerous father, Poseidon?
Caught is an interesting and unique mermaid tale. Poseidon is not very nice to his daughters. Lorelei is being forced to wed the son of an ally but he manages to kill each of his brides. While trying to keep her sisters in line and figure out how to avoid marrying someone dangerous or having her sisters forced to marry him, Lorelei gets captured by Quinn. She's told of a treasure on the island containing a weapon that could change the power in the ocean in short order. In an effort to prove to Quinn she's not the siren that destroyed his ship or crew, she makes a deal with him. Her body for the treasure - as long as she gets the weapon.
The line the author writes in the sand concerning consent almost had me putting the book down. Quinn's character is so hellbent on bedding a mermaid after she loses her tail, I wanted to reach into the book and slap him. The author avoids any true assault but the discussion is there in Quinn's mind and there is some rather risky hand placements. I hope the next book doesn't include any similar scenes between the hero and heroine. Once I was past this particular section of the book, the rest was smooth sailing. The sex was steamy and there was a definite shift in the interactions between Quinn and Lorelei.
The character develop was well done. She took Quinn from aggrieved pirate with woman issues to a kind, caring, and loving man willing to do whatever was necessary to help Lorelei. Lorelei, herself, was a strong character. She may have had a rough go of it after turning human but the author did not write her in a way that perceived weakness. She new what she had to do to get off the island and save her sisters. She also broke Quinn's heart out of its stone fortress, allowing him to see that not all women are out to swindle men or that women are only good for one one thing. Other than the issues I discussed above, Caught is a delightful enemies-to-lovers romance. Events taking place in the sea are a bit dark but just add another element to the story.
Well this was underwhelming. Is it so hard to ask for a fantasy romance with a semi-believable love story that actually develops naturally with a sense of suspense and tension?
Quinn abducts Lorelei after assuming she is responsible for destroying his ship. While he can't bring himself to punish her for it with his fists, well, he can probably rape her, and by god she would deserve it. Later on we learn that he is just too good of a guy for rape, and he is disappointed in himself. Despite her constantly telling him that she didn't ruin his ship, he doesn't believe her, because once when he was younger, a woman treated him badly, and now he has a fucking chip on his shoulder and fully consumed the red pill. Every stupid tiny thing makes him renew his belief that she did him wrong despite their developing relationship, and despite being the fucking daughter of a god, she forgives him and sees his good heart from those couple times that his face contorted in such a way as to display concern and affection for her.
Let us also discuss the relationship. They hate each other immediately, of course, because he thinks she destroyed his ship and killed his crew, and, well, she was kidnapped by him and forced out of her natural habitat to desiccate on land until she grows a vagina for him to plunder. Despite this rocky start, there is, of course, immediate and totally unjustifiable passion which develops into equally unjustifiable love. It all culminates in some ridiculous bullshit ending that had me just flipping the pages to end it already. The sex scenes do not redeem this book. They were shite, and they were paced terribly. Do not recommend.
This book promised all the things I loved in a book: mermaids, pirates and romance. Unfortunately, the execution and content of this book left me thoroughly disappointed.
Lorelai was an interesting character who had an intriguing back story and motivation throughout the book. The mermaid lore and civilisation was well thought out and the only enjoyable part of the book for me.
I was initially interested in Quinn during the first chapter. He was a sexy pirate protagonist who had just lost his ship and wanted revenge. But from there he just becomes an irredeemable monster. In my opinion, he os the worst kind of character to cast as the romantic male lead in a story. A would-be-rapist with a penchant for violence against women. He lacked any romantic qualities and was uncomfortable to read things from his perspective.
The relationship between Quinn and Lorelai is intended to be enemies to lovers but the book lacks any real romance and skips straight to, at times, violent smut removing the ability for the relationship to go through the traditional slow burn of the enemies to lovers trope. It felt more like an accelerated Stockholm Syndrome if I'm being honest.
Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for providing me a copy of this e-arc in exchange for an honest review.
I loved Lorelei the mermaid who was determined and strong and basically my idea of an ideal female protagonist (P.S. I didn't like jewel very much in that regard). Lorelei had a good backstory and I really liked the fun and mischievous interactions between Lorelei and Quinn. The story was going just fine until the moment I dropped it. Yes I never finished it and dropped it. I dropped this book by chapter 12 or something around the part when lorelei sacrifices a part of her to save Quinn. It pissed me off. I hated how Quinn was such a jerk to her and how he left her in the sun already. But by the time Quinn woke up and started hurling insults at lorelei right after she sacrificed herself for him, I had had enough. He broke her heart. Can you fucking believe that. I was so mad at him that I kind of snapped and dropped the book like literally I threw my tab on the other side of the bed. Anyways I don't really know the story afterwards and I don't really want to know. But I do hope that lorelei will slap Quinn atleast once and find happiness somewhere else though I already know from experience that it won't happen.
*WARNING* contains adult situations I think this boom is a bit cliche' with pirates, mermaids, and sirens, but it was still a good story. Our pirate, Quinn, has burnt by females before and so doesn't trust all of them. Quinn has decided he's going to get revenge on the little red headed mermaid anyway he wants. Quinn quickly finds he can't do anything to hurt her because he is apparently a pirate with a conscious. Lorelei is the eldest daughter of Poseidon. Lore doesn't like the things her father wants done and tries to stop them. The pirate sounds all big and bad, and I fully expected something brutal happening, but I liked that he could have a bad attitude and still have a conscious. I think there is more than one "hero" in this story. I like the different magical or mythical beings that are written in. I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to others.
An enchanting and erotic tale of a courageous mermaid who brings a distrusting pirate to his knees when his desire for her turns to love and they face the dangers of an island full of myths come to life
Ok so I LOVED this story but there are quite a few things that got in the way of it being perfect for me personally.
I’ll start with the things I loved. I am OBSESSED with the chemistry between Quinn and Lorelei. It was great. The tension was great the first sex scene was great. I also loved the concept of the story. I also loved the humour throughout the book, especially when it came to poking fun at the pirate clichés. I loved Quinn’s backstory and found it gave him more depth as a character.
Now things that I wasn’t quite happy with. I loved the tension build up and the first sex scene. But then was a bit disappointed that the subsequent sex scene were fade to black. More smut would have made this perfect. Another thing that bothered was the multiple direction the plot was going. I was hoping for more adventure. The book starts off with Quinn and Lorelei on the island and then striking a bargain to go look for the treasure which never happened. I was hoping for them to go search together which would have given me more adventure as a reader. But then there was the fairy plot. It just felt like the story had no direction sometimes. I’m also not quite sure how I feel about . It didn’t bother me too much but I wasn’t crazy about it either. I think the story would have worked better in an epic fantasy setting rather than historical fantasy. Another thing that bothered me was the writing style felt a bit wonky sometimes, especially the dialogues. I also felt like the whole Quinn not believing Lorelei dragged on for way too long and felt unnecessary and repetitive.
I feel if it had had more smut and more adventure, with bigger battles it would have been perfect! I still really enjoyed it and thought this was a fun read!
'Caught' is the first book of the Sea Temptress series.
Quinn, Captain of the pirate ship blames Lorelei, a beautiful mermaid for his sunken ship. His scarred past makes him unforgivable towards women and he doesn't give heed to any of her words. When he lost his crew due to a mysterious siren, Quinn overcome with anger takes Lorelei captive to take his revenge and holds her hostage at a deserted island.
Lorelei daughter of Poseidon is a pure-hearted, innocent mermaid who is betrothed to a ruthless Ruin son of Sea Which and brother to sirens and loves her sisters very much. Her only desire is to break the engagement and escape from her father's clutches. She is even ready to compromise and negotiate with Quinn for the sake of her sisters.
Now alone on a deserted island with a stranger and the dangerous pirate will Lorelei escape from his clutches? Will she find a way to save herself and her sisters?
This book is a simple love story of a mermaid and a pirate with a lot of intense and steamy romance. It follows that trope of enemies to lovers and the author has very beautifully narrated the story. Loved the chemistry between Lorelei and Quinn and the twist at the end was just unexpected. I couldn't put this book aside even for a minute and I can't wait to read the next book in this series.
I loved this book and I strongly recommend it to everyone.
I received a free copy of this book and I'm leaving this review voluntarily and as always it is my honest review.
I would like to thank the author and the Netgalley website for allowing me to read this book.
I was immediately drawn to the beautiful cover of this book which features a beautiful mermaid.
It starts with a pirate out for revenge. He is a captain who is desperate to get revenge on all the creatures that have destroyed his ship. Quinn O'Connor captures their leader without suspecting the consequences to come. That is to say being stuck with one of them on a mysterious island.
As for the beautiful temptress of the seas, Lorelei, daughter of Poseidon, she wants to negotiate with Quinn to save her family. He will drag her to land and her tail will give way to beautiful legs but will she want to go home after that?
As for the magic and chaos combined, their kisses only increase the desire for each other.
Will Lorelei accept her fate? Will Quinn renounce his desire for revenge? Will he attack a God to save the one he loves?
I read this book in one sitting and was so hooked on the love story between the pirate and the mermaid. A story so gripping, captivating, addictive, full of intrigue, suspense and twists with very endearing characters. I can't wait to discover the rest of the book, I love the author's writing so much.
A different take on the mermaid-human trope. I felt like I read 2 books in one though; at first you're reading a pretty graphic and intense romance story super super sexual and then it's a fantasy journey about a trident and defeating Poseidon... overall I do have to say it was better than the stuff you find in Wattpad and such but still a little jarring halfway through.
The romance was definitely the strongest and my favorite part of this novel. Lorelai and Quinn are likable characters and once the relationship transitions away from the enemies side of things, they do have genuine affection for one another. I’m also a sucker for enemies to lovers, so that appealed to me from the start. I enjoyed the mythological aspects of the plot, as well as the plotline concerning the sirens. I just wish there’d been more chapters that transitioned between the subplots. Often, a single half of a chapter would cover the next stage of three different subplots which left things feeling rushed through. I also think it would have been nice to see more of Lorelai and Quinn together happily on the island before ramping up to the climax, as I wanted to be a bit more invested than I was at that moment.
I enjoyed this read. The way the story noted the differences on mermaids and sirens.
It was an interesting twist at the end of the book. It was new to see the human defeat Poseidon and become King of the Sea. I am going to read the next book on Storm and King Lyr.
The story has been short but very intense. Despite being a rewriting of the tale of the little mermaid with a pirate background. It is surprising how it uses the evil version of the mermaids but at the same time showing a tragic background.
Both Quinn and Lorelei are victims of something. Quinn was a victim of the mermaids who sank her ship and killed all her crew, and Lorelei in turn is a victim of her father Poseidon who has turned out to be a tyrannical king who uses his daughters as a means to achieve his ends. The story has few characters but the author has known how to take full advantage of them.
In the end when Quinn defeats Poseidon and becomes the new God of the sea, it means a significant change of the world for a more just one.
