The Girl and the Deadly End is the seventh book in the Emma Griffin Mystery series, it can be read as a standalone.
This series of books frustrated me to no end. Some of the books were better than others. The series drug out too long and got too convoluted and way too impossible, and yet I felt a need to finish and see how things ended. Thankfully, the books were quick reads and, thankfully, now I am finished with them.
Thank God I can put this series past me and move on with my life. I got _just_ enough resolution to the "mysteries" that have been there since No. 1 in the Emma Griffins to be fine with not continuing to inflict myself with poorly edited and highly implausible stories.
But, hey, let's hear it for A.J. Rivers--she's written a buncha books and entertained a heck of a lot of people with them.
PS Note To Myself: This was the second of two series you read for "free" with your trial subscription of Kindle Unlimited. And you reacted just about the same way to both of them. So how about you get a clue and just tab right on over and cancel while the cancelling's good?
Phew! Seven books in and we finally get some answers. Although a couple of the books in the series started to run on, this one ties everything back together nicely and brings us some closure - but not without another cliffhanger ending...
A very generous 3 stars and a SPOILER ALERT for this review
I have mostly enjoyed this series with its twists and turns. That being said this book felt wayyyyyyy rushed. Assumptions were made, facts were uncovered and conclusions were jumped to in a single bound.
Every loose end in the entire series is tied up in this one book including.... you guessed it, the reappearance of Emma's missing father and legendary CIA Agent, Ian Griffin. His undercover mission briefly glossed over, posing as his sinister brother, being held captive FOR 10 YEARS and then he just happens to pop up at the right moment to save the day and take down Fisher. Fisher who by the way was SO devoted to Lotan he would kill for him, die for him and was his right hand man for years BUT he didn't even notice that the man he was facing had a totally different scar or that his voice was not the same? If Emma could see if from across the room, how could Fisher not tell inches away?
I just was not feeling this ending at all.

Pretty disappointed with the ending especially after reading 7 books to find out. Really liked the series but the ending didn’t really answer a lot of my questions or give the shock factor that I was looking for
This series follows Emma Griffin — a character we’re supposed to believe is a brilliant FBI agent— except she’s extremely emotional, always getting kidnapped. The first few books drew me in but then, the author took a semi plausible mystery and wove in weird, non-believable, hard to follow storylines. (Some of which closely resemble the Blacklist.) I finished this series simply to see how the author would wrap up this train wreck. The ending was like the author decided to pull in last minute details at the very that made no sense whatsoever to the multi hints and previous books clues.
I am glad that everything was taken care of in this book. I love Emma and her determination as well as her sense of what is right and wrong. I sincerely hope that this is not over, particularly with the way it ended. A.J.Rivers has a wonderful group of stories with an underlying theme that carries from book to book. Each is a standalone so you can read them out of sequence. But if you can start with #1 and go straight through #7. It is well worth the effort!
Would never work as a stand alone even if the author believes that. Took me a while to get back into the story line even though it had only been a month or so after finishing the first six books.
Too repetitive , not enough mystery, slow moving.. Great ideas but no action & and easy to figure out before it happens sorry, but needs more work, that's only my opinion but all I read is mysteries, & murders so if they aren't good it takes me forever to get them finished and I lose interest right away, started rereading this one countless times before finishing it. Tweety🐦🐦
The season is over, I can rest now. And rest I shall. This was an ending... That's about it. It wasn't that entertaining, there was no real big REVOLUTION or crazy thing revealed. It was a fairly mundane ending that really just... Happened.
There are some spoilers after this line, and it won't let me mark them on mobile so... Be warned. . . . . . Her mother helped abused women get out of their situation. That's cool, her mother was a cool lady. Oh... She helped Jake's mother from book 1. That's interesting... Oh... Jake knew who she was from minute he saw her... And Creagan knew the whole time and still sent her there? Why? BECAUSE PLOT TENSION! Though there was no real tension because it didn't change anything. Her talk with Jake did Jack for the plot, and she got angry at Creagan and... That's all. Oh and the 'showdown' at the house in Florida was dumb. I love how she has access to all these houses without question and there's never active living in them, so the plot can happen at a specific place. My last thought- how did Fisher incapacitate a trained sheriff, a trained FBI agent and a private investigator when I'm assuming they were all armed. They all ended up in the hospital with 'minor injuries', meaning he... Knocked them out? I get that he's a cult-trained villain, but... Oh and my favorite part is how, in either the fight with Fisher or the uncle, I can't recall, she literally put 'he somehow dodged', like... Did she forget to add a detail there?
Edit: I went back and found it. '''In one fast motion, quicker than I can blink, he lunges for me. I draw my gun, but he somehow slides underneath my stance''' This is the language you use when you want something to happen but just can't think of how to explain it. So it just kinda... Somehow... Happens
In the end, I liked this series at the start of book 1, by end of book 2 I was meh... Then it just got worse. Book 4 was the best one, it actually had some teeth to it... The last 2 of the season were just exposition with no real plot and it was incredibly boring.
Trigger Warnings: Mentions of rape, attempted kidnapping, drugging, and mentions of abusive relationships.
"I can't promise you everything is going to be by the book. I might not follow the rules. I might not do things the way other people would want me to do it. I'll do what needs to be done."
The Girl and the Deadly End was a nail-biter at times especially as it got towards the end of the book. Emma is dealing with Greg showing up again and him now fighting for his life as well as just the all-around security issues that she keeps having due to two different people it appears stalking here. With the help of Sam, Bellamy, Eric, and Dean she is able to get some answers to what's been happening and connects the dots of some of the investigations. They are all working on different parts of the mystery as it has evolved to be this gigantic thing now that no one person can manage everything on their own. So many potentially dangerous things happened in this book that had me stressed at times for Emma because I did not see it ending well. Thankfully it does all end up okay but this book has some intense moments compared to the other ones.
Overall I enjoyed and liked this book. We finally got answers to almost all the things that had been happening throughout the series so far. We know about what her mom did now and why they traveled so much. Why her dad left, and who this other person is, and we even learned that she has another family member. This whole mystery grew to be far more than I ever expected it to be and I have just been blown away with how intricate it is and I've been trying to figure it out as the books have gone and I figured out some stuff, but I was also shocked by a lot of things.
I did like how this book ended for Emma's portion of what was happening. I do still have questions though and the cliffhanger ending for this one of why Greg did what he did is going to bother me until I get to read the next one.
I really enjoy this series that I happened to find on a whim. But this write has caught my attention. I was very much looking forward to reading this book to find out what happened!! It’s been going on for 7 books now so I needed closure. Well the end was not what I expected. That’s why I have it only 4 stars. I mean her father has been missing for 6 books to just pop up out the blue and I honestly missed the one clue that said he was the other man in the room. I had to go back and read a few paragraphs to make sure I didn’t miss a critical detail. But onward, what happened to Same and Eric? I mean there were there to protect her and both law enforcement so they should have been a little more vigilant and on guard since there were guarding her house. But either way. What happened to them? I want to know about their attacks. How Lotan got to them? It was very detailed about dean and that scene but the others just seemed to be forgotten about. It seemed a little rushed band gave not explanation to where the father was for 10 years. You don’t just walk in and say o I was undercover and that be that. I want no scratch that, I need answers!! Lol my brain keeps wondering what happened? Where’s you go? Who held you captive? Maybe the next book will give more answers. Even if it doesn’t I’ll keep reading them all until I run out of books. I think this is a good author and will continue to improve as more books are done. Happy reading!! 😊😊

Emma Griffin is trying to find out who Catch Me is. She doesn’t think it is Lotan, head of Leviathan, so there are two unknowns out there. Lotan is Jonah, the twin of Ian, Emma’s father. He believes Emma is his daughter and wants to bring her on board as one of his chosen. She learns that Dean Steele is Jonah’s son and is her cousin. She, Dean, and Sheriff Sam Johnson work together to solve the mystery and all the deaths that follow Lotan and his group.
This book answers a lot of the questions brought out by earlier books that were often confusing. Ian Griffin is Emma's biological father even though Jonah thinks he is. He had an obsession with Mariya, Emma's mother. Both Ian and Jonah were brought up in a loving home but somewhere along the line, Jonah turned to the dark side. He went to prison and learned about Leviathan. Emma got the best of him and he is finally turned over to the police. Emma and Ian are reunited.
As the book ends, Greg leaves the hospital before Emma arrives. He left with a blonde woman and his body is later found battered and bloody in the surf. Leviathan got to him. Who is the mysterious blonde and why did Greg leave with her? More questions.
This series was a little tiresome. The story got to convoluted and hard to keep track of who is doing what when and where, who is who. I enjoy reading series but with one ending and picking up again through seven books got annoying. I feel like I’m getting a lesson or lecture constantly throughout this series too. There is so much filler explanations, and filler conversations between her and someone. I feel because she knows this is way to long of a continuous story and she goes on tangents that she has to explain to refocus us, but also I got the feeling she needing us to think like her. If she kept to the story and made it shorter, we would be smart enough to follow. Still, I read them through. It really could have been condensed down to a good book of about 500-600 pages. I’m glad I read them but I’m glad it’s over. I probably won’t read another book from this author. Thank goodness it was easy reading and I got through them quickly!! The four stars are for the basic story which could have been improved, she had good ideas. But the for the build up if seven books I was thinking the ending would be dynamite. But sadly no. Very disappointing
I’m still confused on how these books can be labeled as standalones. This one and the one before it tie up the story line that began in book one. Each of the earlier books have a mystery that is solved during the book but there is several arcs that are completely confusing without reading all the books to this point. I really prefer to read books that don’t require time travel from chapter to chapter. The fact that the chapters don’t move smoothly from beginning to end but jump around was really confusing. The longest out of time chapter was 30 yrs. Other than that chapters jumped months to years and skipped from character to character. I am impressed that the author managed that many timelines and individuals. I wonder if the next book is going to include solving the mystery that ends this book or if it is again going to take multiple books to solve.
It's Finally Over. I sorry but i have to give this book 5 stars. It was just too good. I honestly thought this book was going to drag on and not make sense but honestly, I'm not disappointed. This book was probably the best in the series. One thing I do with crime and horror books is open a word document and try to piece together who the suspects are. I love doing it. It makes more sense to me. This book answers all your questions. And like If I'm being honest (and yes I'm embarrassed to say this) My number #1 Suspect was Clancy the Handyman. Yes I know laugh at me all you want. He was being pretty sus. 🤣😂🤣 Anyways.......... I don't know if I'm going to read the next book by Emma Griffin. I will update this review if I do though.
I was drawn into every book of this series and now the secrets are finally revealed. Emma has been searching for answers to how her mother was murdered, where her father is and who is Catch Me? She has been stalked by Catch Me and if she doesn’t pay attention to the clues someone dies. A constant threat Catch Me seems to be able to move at will into her home and on top of that someone who looks just like her father has appeared in pictures but she knows it’s not her father. So many things happening fast that keeps you ready to into the night. So anxious to see who what and how. Love A. J. Rivers writing. You can’t go wrong reading this series and this is the long awaited finale!
Our dear Emma has had all of her questions answered, finally. Though I did start to anticipate some answers, they were revealed in the most satisfying way. AJ Rivers writes a thrilling conclusion, with what I think is the best book of the series. This is one you really just have to read, I think.
HOWEVER. Once again, when I was really hoping for a happy ending for Emma, she is left with questions and SO ARE WE. I mean what was that ending?? What happened? Why? I am anticipating a Greg book or an Ian series, and I sure as hell hope so because I would like to finish with some answers. She’s done it again, that genius, AJ Rivers really won’t let me go.
You don't have a chance trying to figure this out. It's like trying to separate a spider web. Just when I thought I was getting it the whole theory went sideways. Great suspense that holds your interest through the entire series. The characters are mostly likeable and the villains are truly terrible. While most questions are finally answered the end is still a cliff hanger. Is Leviathan taking on a new leader? And who was that blonde woman? I almost felt like I missed a clue but that would not be unusual for this incredibly comp!ex plot.

Book Review: The Girl and the Deadly End by A.J. Rivers ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This was the last book of this mystery. I was so happy with the ending and really enjoyed all the mysteries involved through the story. Catch Me is finally revealed and Emma can finally move on.
This is the final book in this series. It brought together and tied up the missing pieces of the story. I think it is somewhat difficult to have so many books, and to try to remember the story surrounding past characters and the ultimate role they played in the o stall story. I was glad that Emma was able to be reunited with her father but sad that Greg met such a tragic ending after all he went thru. I like this author's writing style and will definitely continue to follow more of her writings.
In this seventh and last book of the Emma Griffin FBI Mystery Seies, Emma Griffin matches wits with not only a Serial Killer but also Lohan, the leader of a terrorist organization. She also discovers hidden facts about her family and the people responsible for her mother’s murder.
Although, this currently the last book in the series, the author left a mystery at the end of the book which will probably open the way for an eighth book.
This was another great read with mAny twists and turns in it.
Happy to finally have answers I have been waiting for. I gave four stars instead of five because I feel like the series went on for one or two many books. I had to know, so stuck with it. I will read the next one. Emma is a troubled character, and it works.
Happy to finally have so answers/closure. Emma is a complex and troubled character and I have enjoyed the mystery of these books. I gave four stars instead of five because I feel like the series went a book or two further than it needed to. I have enjoyed the books and will read the next one.
Last book in the Emma Griffen series. You figure out what happened to Emma’s Mom and where Emma’s Dad is. How is she related to Dean? Who is the Lotan? Does she have family? An uncle? Who was responsible for all of those crimes? What is the Leviathan? All of the answers are revealed and you will be amazed!!! I didn’t like the last page and what happened to Greg but you will have to read and find out for yourself what goes on….Everything you were wondering in the other books is solved and makes sense now!!!

The Girl and the Deadly End— A.J. Rivers, 2020 (Emma Griffin FBI Mysteries book 7)
We finally got answers to almost all the things that had been happening throughout the series. This one tied-up loose ends and brought us some closure— but not without another cliffhanger ending.
That was one twisty and convoluted hell of a ride Emma Griffin! Phew.
I have been reading this series foreverrrr and I was expecting things to come together more clearly. I’m still confused how her had knew where she was and what exactly he’s been doing for these last 10 years, which one was Catch Me and who the heck did Greg wander off with that killed him?? I’m tired of the series but I’m invested and now I have to know what happened to Greg! I also wish there was more of a romance plot line, I love her and Sam 🥹
