When Edie Potter goes to Homecoming with the school’s golden boy, she expects a night she’ll never forget. What she doesn’t anticipate is for him to ignore her when she says no. She never imagined she would be the villain in the story of her rape.

Dean Franklin has been in love his best friend, Edie, since the fourth grade. He’s also the one person at school who believes her. The only problem: he’s forced to keep a secret from her that could mean the end of their budding romance.

Between coping with her sexual assault and being blindsided by betrayal, nothing makes sense anymore. Edie must find the strength within to navigate disappointment and withstand the unbearable pain of trying to heal or she may miss her chance at a happily ever after. Can Dean help her put the pieces back together before they miss out on their chance at love?

Reader Beware: There are scenes in this book that describe Edie’s rape and the aftermath. If you are uncomfortable with reading such scenes, please proceed with caution.

Hero and heroine grew up as best friends. In high school, H is a manwhore and h lost her v to him. She has only had sex with him while he's still sleeps around. He also allowed his fuck buddy to bully her. Heroine is raped by OM at beginning of the book. Cannot finish because H has been in love with h since fourth grade, but chooses to sleep around...h waited to lose her v to him and pines for him...

This story is real. This story is raw and doesn't sugar coat what happens to Edie. It is filled with triggers so be mindful of them.

We see Edie go through something traumatic. We also see her start to live again, baby step by baby step. Her neighbor was a rock for her. Dean was, but also wasn't. I liked him, didn't like him and then liked him again. I really hated him around 66% mark and I'm sure I wasn't the only one.

Space doesn't mean there isn't love there. Space doesn't mean that you are forgotten and moved on from. Space is needed to process things. Needed to find yourself despite all the darkness and vileness around you. He wasn't pushed aside out of hate, but actually from love. She had to love herself so she could love him. Dumb boy.

This is an emotional read with high school aged MCs. I'm looking forward to the next couple's story. I hope we get to see more of Edie and Dean it it - them thriving and loving one another.

The H was about to bang the h's nemesis, aka his ex-fuckbuddy (ow), after getting drunk (when the H & h were on a break). The same ow who had relentlessly bullied the heroine over the years and mercilessly slut shamed her at school and over social media after she was raped. Nope! Can't digest that.
I hated the h's divorced parents for coercing her to withdraw her case against her rapist. The rapist goes on to drug and rape the h's nemesis (ow) later. It's sad.
I hated the h's irresponsible dad for not calling her and offering support, only a father can, instead of cozying up with his younger wife.

Oh wow.
This was my first read by Mica Rae and it won’t be my last.
I went into this one blind so didn’t know what to expect, and from the first page I was hit with emotion and heartbreak.
This story had me flipping the pages to see what happened.
I don’t want to spoil anything, but I loved the main couple. So cute. So right. And so meant to be.

A fabulous five star read.

I want to thank Mica Rae, author and Goodreads First Reads for the copy of Hush ~ I'm Yours that I won in the Giveaway.

Hush is a perfect title for a novel about a rape victim and how the adults try to keep the incident completely quiet. Edie is a high school senior when at homecoming her date rapes her. She finds support with Dean her best friend and old next door neighbor although the adults in her life only want to keep quiet and take a settlement from the boy's rich father.

The story is full of emotional ups and downs as the young people find support from an unexpected source and learn to deal with trust issues, rejections, lies on social media and finally find a place in college to find peace and get back to a normal life. The author does an excellent job with the emotions of the young people and how our society can let them down when they need it the most.

With two novels complete under her pen, Mica Rae has shown us that the way a story is told can help us understand the most complex and commonly misunderstood “issues” of our day. She isn’t afraid to face a controversial topic head on yet present it to her readers with compassion and empathy. Regardless of a reader’s pre-conceived idea on the subject matter, one walks away with a different perspective (at the least), that causes them to have a more dimensional understanding of human behavior and the issue “at-hand”.

Hush immediately and directly puts us “smack-dab” in the middle of Edie’s nightmare. From that moment on, we (the reader) become invested protectors of Edie’s story. Mica Rae does an incomparable job of developing characters that we love and hate. Characters that we can relate to and characters that unfortunately maybe we have known.

Mica Rae reconciles the story in such a way that you not only feel Edie’s closure, but you experience your own as well.

Well Done Mica Rae!

Start a romance book with rape would not have been my choice. I found this really uncomfortable. And the whole motivations and interactions of the characters very weird. I decided to stop reading.

4 stars.

Tackling heavy hitting subjects such as these can he hard going. I've seen and read many botched attempts at depicting an accurate portrayal of sexual assault and the victim's fragile mental state following an attack.

But Mica has done a wonderful job here of portraying the real, the raw, the awful truth of the treatment victims of sexual assault endure, not only from their attacker, but right through to the lopsided justice system.

Aside from all that though, there is a beautifully written romance intertwined amongst the chaos, and I found Mica's portrayal of Edie's struggle to find the strength to be intimate again both accurate and heart breaking.

In short, I enjoyed the book (as much as one can enjoy the subject matter, especially when it hits this close to home)
there are a few very minor errors in grammar/punctuation, but nothing at all that affects the reading of the story.

I thoroughly recommended anyone who doesn't understand the struggles of the 1 in 5, to pick up a copy and have a read. Your eyes will be opened and I wouldn't mind betting your judgement of sexual assault victims will be changed forever.

Thank you Mica for tackling the tricky topics. Xx

I got my very first taste of a book by Mica Rae and can I just say I am hooked! I am one that has to start at the beginning of a series. Well I picked up this book and was told there was a trigger warning before I started reading it. Let me just say …. Heed the warning if you have issues with anything related to sexual assault as it is on the page with this book. I LOVED THIS BOOK from start to finish. I felt like I was right there in the story with the characters. Mica pulls you in and keeps you there and this book was hard to put down for even a moment as I wanted no I needed to know what would happen next. There are definitely twists and turns with surprises in this book. The one thing I will say is this book has so much truth to the way things happen. I laughed at moments, cried at moments and wanted to scream at moments during this book. This book brings out the feels. I loved the characters and most definitely cant wait to read more books by Mica.
Dean and Edie are such a great couple. They have been best friends since fourth grade. When one-night changes everything Dean is there for Edie when no one else is.
I highly Recommend this book. 5 STARS

This book is one I believe every woman and man should read. It touches on a subject that is not always popular to talk about but one we should take more seriously. Mica does not hold back in telling it, nor does she make it end with flawless happiness. She keeps it real, handles the situation the way so many do in real life. Which is what makes it a must-read. Too many times we ignore the real facts and once it all is 'settled' we move on, assume that all will go back to normal now. But life for the person who was brave enough to come forward is forever changed, as is the life of all those involved. This is why I recommend this book to everyone who knows or has a teenager. I also recommend allowing your teen to read it once old enough to understand the complete story. My daughter will be reading to one day so she understands all points of view surrounding this sensitive subject.

A high school story covering rape

It needs to be talked about a lot more, but strangely, it isn't. It is going on every minute, day and night. It is not an easy topic to include.

Congratulations to Mica Rae for bravely describing a teenage girl's horrific experience, as well as the verbal abuse she was exposed to afterwards for daring to go to the Police and report the most popular guy in school.

She then takes it further by telling of the loving healing relationship with the guy she had loved for years.

Incorporating her mother's trans gender friend, and homosexual drama club was not really necessary for the story, but was inclusive and amusing.

The complete lack of a moral compass disturbed me. Perhaps some parents do allow their home to be the regular party venue while they travel, when their son was not even present, but I imagine the damage done would soon stop that. Perhaps some parents do not mind if their teenagers share a bed while scantily dressed, but I can't imagine many good parents doing that.

Wow

While I'm not one to write reviews I just want to say wow. This book made me cry, made me mad, made me laugh and cry some more. I was so upset on Edie's behalf and the way Mica depicted the events and aftermath were powerful and realistic. What happened to edie happens way more than anyone likes to think of and admit but its real. Thank you Mica for giving us a real, powerful , beautiful story. I loved the characters. LaRue being a huge favorite.i love edies strength and deans endless unconditional love for Eddie. If we could all be loved like that *sigh*. I loved Dean's friends Spencer and even Wyatt had his moments. I can't wait to read Rebecca's story. Mica you just moved to my one-click no questions asked list

So Real.and So Emotional!

Mica Rae out did herself with this book. She went so deep into a very tough subject. Sexual assault and\or harassment is real. What the victims go through is real and what those who love the victims go through emotionally is so real. I am so glad that Edie had such a great circle of support from those who love her. Her recovery will take a long time and she will always have to deal with the emotional scars of her assault. Dean was so terrific with her and his love for Edie was evident in every chapter. Thank you for writing about a topic that most shy away from, but is most needed. Rape is not okay and those that commit such crime should be punished. I look forward to reading Spencer and Rebecca's story.

I love these characters and the emotions behind them. I love how the author captured the emotions and thoughts of a sexual assault survivor as it was done with Edie. It's something that people go through nearly every day that doesn't get talked about. I felt like I could feel Edie's pain, and the steps she took to healing.

Dean was amazing, understanding, and caring when it came to Edie and what she went through. I love, love the story and the love between the main characters.

But most of all, I like the fact that this story is written because most survivors of sexual assault are afraid to speak and may feel like they are alone. This novel is a must read.

Well done, Mica Rae!

This is going to be hard to write a review to do this book justice. Trust me, you will get drawn in and taken over by the characters. The covers the hard-to-handle subject of sexual assault, and at times, it might get a little uncomfortable for the reader, but that is part of the point.

If there were more people in the world like Dean and Edie, we would have a better world. These two work together so well, helping one another along the way and building on their bond. Then we get to a person who I definitely would break my hand on his jaw. Just as you will love Dean and Edie, you will get a creepy ultra dislike for Gabe and his supporters.

Strength is the driving force in this book—Definity a must-read. I would give you more, but just do yourself a favor, read it.

Well done

Hush tackles head on the topic of date rape and follows Edie as she finds her way to love after a trauma. This topic can be triggering, and though this author handles the topic respectfully and compassionately those for whom this topic is challenging should read with care. That said the underlying story is solid, steamy and enjoyable, and is a solid foundation for the continuing series which can be read as separately.

Wow just wow! This is a first time read from this author and I’m so glad I picked it up! Dean captured my heart from chapter one! I knew he was a good guy deep down but he blew that out of the water the way he protected Edie with everything he had. Edie and dean are childhood sweethearts but as teens fall apart for a while! Dean is now an official book boyfriend. This story touches on a very sore subject about rape but it is beautifully written in a way that drags you in making your heartstrings pull till the very end! I highly recommend this 5 star read!

Mica Rae did it again!  She isn't afraid to tackle difficult topics.  She shares stories that need to be heard.  The descriptive manner in which Mica writes takes the reader into the world of the character.  You can't help but feel empathy for them. Thanks for giving a voice to real issues.

Mica does a wonderful job of creating characters who deal realistically with their complex lives. Not perfectly, but learning as they go. I love this story as it involves real-world scenarios and a heroine that grows while overcoming the challenges life throws at her. It's a rare book that can tackle such serious issues while interweaving a love story and humor. The characters aren't perfect, they make mistakes in trying to deal with so many difficulties but they get their happy ending as all good romances should. Lots of teenage angst and first love feels. If you love high school steamy romance, you need to snatch this first in the series up!

real and raw

The characters felt like someone you would know in real life. There were times I was angry, happy, and devastated for Edie. There were different plots within the story I wasn’t expecting. This was the first book I’ve ready by Mica Rae and I’ll be reading more. What a great introduction to this series
