This is the fourth installment in Traci Wilton's Salem B&B Mystery series. Charlene Morris owns a quaint B&B in Salem, Massachusetts. She loves her job and is always ready to go above and beyond for her guests. Charlene's B&B is also the home of Jack, the ghost of the former homeowner. It's the 4th of July and she has taken her guests to see an Independence Day play. Unfortunately, the fun-filled day quickly turns into a nightmare when the lead actress is shot dead while on stage in front of the entire audience. Naturally, Charlene wants the killer to be bought to justice, and with the help of Jack, decides to do some sleuthing.
I thought this was a wonderful addition to the series. Charlene is starting to feel like an old friend and I love visiting Salem and her B&B. I find her to be very caring and likable, and I enjoy the interactions between her and the other characters, particularly Avery, Jack, and Minnie. I also love the friendship that is developing between Charlene, Kass, and Amy. Romance-wise, I'm not sure how I feel about Charlene's two love interests. On one hand, I really like Jack but he's dead and I think Charlene deserves so much more than what he can offer her. But on the other hand, I still haven't completely warmed up to Sam and I don't like his coldness towards Charlene at times. I look forward to seeing how things will play out.
As for the mystery, I thought it was well-plotted. Like the last book, the culprit wasn't on my radar so the reveal came as a surprise to me (always a plus).
All in all, this was an enjoyable read and I will definitely be back for another visit. If you like paranormal cozies, then you can't go wrong with this series set in Salem, with a haunted B&B, witches, and the town's rich history.

This is a cozy mystery, and this is the 4th book in A Salem B&B Mystery series. I have read the first three books in this series before picking up this book. I really enjoyed the beginning and the ending of this book. I found parts of the middle slow moving and boring. I did wish the Ghost character "Jack" was in the book more. I also wish we got to be in the B & B more in this book. The ending I did not see coming, and the ending alone was more then 5 stars. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Kensington) or author (Traci Wilton) via NetGalley, so I can give honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

Mrs. Morris and the Sorceress by Traci Wilton is the fourth book in the paranormal cozy A Salem B&B Mystery series. Each book in the series holds it’s own mystery that is fully solved so all books can be read as a standalone if choosing to do so. There will be some character development that carries over book to book though for those that follow the series from the beginning.
The first book of the series introduced readers to Charlene Morris who after losing her husband had needed a fresh start in new surroundings so she decided to move from Chicago to New England. Charlene found a wonderful historic mansion in Salem and thought starting her own bed and breakfast in the touristy town would be the change she needed. What Charlene didn’t expect was to have her new B&B come with it’s own resident ghost.
Charlene’s first experience trying to help solve a murder came when she found that her resident ghost, Jack, had been murdered and needed help finding his killer. Now Charlene is faced with her fourth murder to be solved since coming to Salem fittingly coming while celebrating the 4th of July. Charlene is attending a local film production when out of nowhere a real gun goes off and the lead actress, Madison Boswell, is shot in front of the crowd. Charlene of course does everything she can to help the police figure out who really fired the gun killing the actress.
As everyone may know who has read my reviews before I am a big fan of finding a book that crosses genres so I have been following the A Salem B&B Mystery series since the beginning with it having a touch of paranormal. This one has just that right mix of quirkiness, lovely characters, an interesting location with a lot of history and a fun mystery that it keeps me coming back book after book always trying to decide just who I like the most in the stories.

Mrs. Morris and the Sorceress" the 4th instalment in the Salem B&B Mystery series by Traci Wilton. I love visiting Salem and Charlene’s B&B with its resident ghost Jack. The characters are becoming like old friends and I’m especially happy about the relationship Charlene is developing with young Avery almost like a surrogate daughter. I found Jacks and Charlene’s relationship weird at times not exactly sure why but it just did, but we want to feel emotions for the characters and be invested in the outcome. I love all the characters Charlene, Jack, Minnie, Sam and Avery and now I find myself adding Amy and Kass to my list.
The mystery is interesting, well plotted, with enough twists and turns to keep you guessing till the very end. I definitely was surprised by the ending and can’t wait for book 5 “Mrs. Morris and the Vampire “ coming out August, 2021.
I highly recommend this book to all my cozy lover friends.

After buying a house in Salem, Massachusetts, for opening a B&B, Charlene Morris finds the house came with an undisclosed amenity -- a devishly handsome ghost of a doctor murdered there. Jack, who is only visible to Charlene, becomes a close friend and mystery-solving collaborator through the course of the series. In the fourth book, Charlene and several of her house guests attend a community theater production where the lead actress, Madison, is shot during the play. Now Madison was not a particularly nice person or good actress, but she had the ability to bewitch others. As Charlene learns, almost everyone had a motive to murder Madison, but figuring out who did it will keep everyone guessing, including the reader. Engaging characters and a good mystery provide a truly entertaining read. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Mrs. Morris And The Sorceress is the latest entry in the “A Salem B&B Mystery” series from the duo of Traci Hall and Patrice Wilton. This time the story revolves around a bewitching young woman who is killed in front of an audience. No one is sure what happened, but fingers are being pointed. Charlene is in attendance and filming, She takes the recording home to view with her resident ghost.
I have had a love/hate relationship with this series. A couple of the books have been interesting, and a couple has been unenjoyable. Unfortunately, this is one of the unenjoyable ones. After four books, I would expect the main character to have matured, realized that a relationship with a ghost isn’t ever going to go anywhere, no matter how hard he or she tries, and convince him to move on. But she doesn’t. Selfishly she clings to him and is preventing him from going on to a new life. There is a living, breathing, wonderful man, Sam, who is in love with Charlene. But all she seems to do is keep Sam around as a backup if things don’t work out with Jack or when she wants to get info about a case. Frankly, she is using Sam, and it needs to stop, he needs to put an end to an attraction that is going nowhere. Neither the ghost nor Charlene seem to understand or care that their romance can not go beyond friendship. They are hurting each other and an innocent man because they are not mature enough to accept reality. The B&B doesn’t feel as if it plays a big enough role in any of the books. These are the problems I have had throughout this series from the beginning.
The killer can easily be identified, but the motive may elude some readers. Suspects have a varied and wide range, and many have wonderful reasons for wanting the victim dead; this includes some of those staying at Charlene’s B&B but you could say that the victim had it coming. Charlene isn’t a detective or even an amateur sleuth; she bounces ideas off of Jack, the ghost, pry’s info out of Sam, and gets lucky. Charlene is fortunate not to get hurt or killed in Mrs. Morris And The Sorceress as she gets dangerously close to the killer even after Sam has warned her to stay away. However, alls well in the end, and the culprit is brought to justice.
The writing in this book and series is good and should be coming from two very talented and experienced authors. Having a ghost in the story isn’t unusual and wouldn’t be an issue, but making him the main love interest has made the characters less likable. The setting of Salem and a B&B could be played up more, but I understand how difficult it can be to make a location exciting in a story, and Salem is used all too often for this type of cozy. I had hoped that storylines and characters would become more interesting with greater depth at this point. Jack would move on to a new life, and Sam would finally get the love from Charlene that he deserves, but.. that hasn’t happened, and I find it more and more difficult to have any enthusiasm for this series. If readers choose to read this book, I hope they will start at the beginning of the series. Otherwise, they may be completely lost.

I really enjoyed this book, I love everything about Salem, Massachusetts, so this series is a home run for me.
Charlene owns a quaint bed & breakfast in Salem, and she’s always ready to go the extra mile for her guests.
Charlene’s b & b is also the home of Jack, the ghost of the deceased homeowner. Charlene seems quite infatuated with Jack, which is sort of sweet, but I hope it doesn’t continue much longer. I don’t think it would allow Charlene to grow as a character, which would be a shame.
I think this is a fun, fast paced story that cozy mystery fans will really enjoy.

Charlene Morris is enjoying the 4th of July events, where she and several of her guests from the B&B are watching a reenactment of Salem's Rebels. Charlene was filming under the guise to show her folks, but it was really for Dr. Jack Strathmore, her resident B&B ghost. One of the actors is the girlfriend of Charlene's friend, Kevin Hughes. The play is how the British soldiers marched to Salem to look for stolen cannons, only to find out that they couldn't cross because the bridge was dismantled, and despite the soldiers against rebels, not one shot was fired.
That was, until during the play, one actor dropped his musk prop, and Colonel Alexander Leslie, played by Madison Boswell clutching her chest fell off the stage. This wasn't supposed to be part of the play! A murder in broad daylight with countless people around. The musk props had fake gunpowder, and Michelle Fendi, a nurse, pointed out that the fatal wound was not from a musket, but a handgun. Charlene runs after Kevin & Amy, and inadvertently overhears a heated exchange from another couple.
Charlene enlists Jack's help viewing the video to see if he notices anything that stands out, which he does find something unusual. Charlene starts to suspect one person, but her list will grow after learning Madison had rumors about her being a witch.
When the cast is invited to Madison's funeral, Charlene's is invited by her actor friends, Kass & Amy, to go along. When her friend Kass, hits it off with Logan, the older brother of Madison and the trio of friends get a personal invitation to the home, Charlene does a little snooping, and gets caught twice where she shouldn't be.
After meeting Madison's fiance, and hearing about the missing engagement ring, Charlene recalls Madison wearing it while on stage and after a mishap, who might have it. Charlene's questioning her adding three suspects at the top of her list for the murder.
This is such a fun series! I love reading how Jack, who only Charlene can see and speak with, pranks the cat or guests. There is a little rivalry between Jack and the dashing Detective Sam Holden, where both pull at Charlene's heartstrings. This time around, Sam allows Charlene to be humiliated, and almost handcuffed, where Charlene gets so angry that she doesn't want anything more to do with him. The surprise was, Jack found himself agreeing with Sam!
A handsome live-in ghost, a witch, a flirty detective, a missing item, and ghost light make a very entertaining read!

Poor Charlene is once again inadvertently caught up in another normal-event-turned- murder. It’s a toasty fourth of July, a time for celebration. The Independence Day play is in full progress with a happy crowd including some of Charlene’s current bed and breakfast guests. A strikingly beautiful actress named Madison is murdered in broad daylight in the middle of the play initially leading to confusion that it was a part of the play. And from there, the mystery begins….
This was a refreshing and action-packed read! I was close to figuring out who the murderer was, but there was a twist and many suspects with motives. I enjoyed how it had me wondering the entire time. The charming ghost Jack is back as are some of the regulars from the previous three books which I love. I had really missed my good old friend Charlene and her gorgeous bed and breakfast. I highly recommend this book series for a light escape! Still dreaming of the day this becomes a TV series!!

July 1, 2021I really wanted to enjoy this book. I love when the supernatural pops into cozy mysteries and I absolutely love Salem Massachusetts. I found the amateur sleuth to be a bit lackluster. She didn’t do much sleuthing and appeared apathetic about finding the killer. I had a hard time getting into and reading this one, a lot of the middle dragged on and on. I did like the ending. My favorite character is Charlene’s employee Avery. The ghost Jack seemed like the real sleuth of the story but also he was rarely in it. There were aspects like setting and support characters I liked, so I would read another in this series, but it’s not going to be vying for my favorite cozy mystery.

I have read all the books in this series and besides the first one, I would say this one is one of the best. I still think Charlene's crush on her resident ghost is a bit weird.
Charlene is back and it's the Fourth of July in Salem, MA. She takes her guests to see a play describing a confrontation between the citizens of Salem and the British Army prior to the Revolutionary War. However, the "star" is shot in what appears to be a stage mishap, only to be discovered later that this was cold, calculated murder. Charlene once again gets involved with the help of ghost Dr. Jack Strathmore who "haunts" her B&B.
I like the characters in this book. Salem has a lot of colorful history and I appreciate the lengths the author goes to and preserve the integrity of the setting with a sprinkling of delightful and colorful characters. This series makes me want to visit Salem and take in all it's glory and see if some of the fact matches the fiction.
I must say that this book is peppered with superstition, something that appears to be revered in Salem (at least in these stories) so as any theatre buff knows, mentioning the actual name of the Scottish play in a theatre is a big no-no and I was surprised at how cavalier the director, Neville, was about saying it. That's just my inner nerd coming out though.

She takes her guests to see a play describing a confrontation between the citizens of Salem and the British Army prior to the Revolutionary War. However, the "star" is shot in what appears to be a stage mishap, only to be discovered later that this was cold, calculated murder. Charlene once again gets involved with the help of ghost Dr. Jack Strathmore who "haunts" her B&B.
I like the characters in this book. Salem has a lot of colorful history and I appreciate the lengths the author goes to and preserve the integrity of the setting with a sprinkling of delightful and colorful characters. This series makes me want to visit Salem and take in all it's glory and see if some of the fact matches the fiction.
I must say that this book is peppered with superstition, something that appears to be revered in Salem (at least in these stories) so as any theatre buff knows, mentioning the actual name of the Scottish play in a theatre is a big no-no and I was surprised at how cavalier the director, Neville, was about saying it. That's just my inner nerd coming out though.

A Salen B&B Mystery series is a terrific read, and Mrs. Morris and the Sorceress is a wonderful addition. Jack and Charlene once again find themselves embroiled in another murder that they try to solve. This time, the victim is a young actress who is not well-liked. The author does a good job of providing the reader with plenty of suspects and motives to choose from as they try to determine the killer's identity. The characters in this series are really coming together. I like that Charlene and Jack are a team and he often provides some valuable insights that help lead to catching the killer. The supporting cast is diverse and I really enjoy the relationship that Charlene has established with her young employee Avery. There is still romantic tension between Charlene and Sam but that seems to be always tempered by Charlene's involvement in his murder investigations. The mystery in this installment was resolved with a climactic ending that was a surprise to me. I think the author did a wonderful job of throwing me off the trail of this killer.

I have enjoyed all of the previous books in this series and this one does not disappoint! Not only is it fun to read about Charlene and her interesting B&B guests but, as always, the addition of Jack the ghost elevates this cozy mystery to the next level. The romance between Charlene and the detective is progressing slowly but surely which is definitely a plus. I really enjoyed the twists and turns of this mystery which lead to a satisfying ending. I am eager to read more books in this series.

In this fourth instalment in the Salem B&B Mystery series by Traci Wilton, Charlene Morris is a B&B owner and widow who bought an old mansion. She runs "Charlene's" in Salem, Massachusetts, a historic small town and she enjoys the company of Jack Strathmore, the progressive ghost of the former homeowner.
Charlene acts as a group guide for her guests, taking them to local events in addition to providing lodgings and breakfast. Charlene and her guests attend a Fourth of July celebration; as part of the festivities, they watch 'Salem's Rebels' a one-off showing of a play depicting a historic event. During the second act the ravishingly beautiful star of the play, Madison Boswell is shot dead while on stage in front of the entire audience. Charlene and her resident ghost Jack assist Detective Sam Holden in identifying the culprit. So who might have wanted to kill her?
In this cozy tale, Traci Wilton wastes no time presenting the reader with the murder very early on. The author's characters are very engaging, their presences jumping from the pages and by the time I finished reading I felt I had gotten to know them quite well, whilst wanting to meet up with them again. Charlene is curious, smart, friendly, and she seems very genuine. The diverse supporting characters were a hit for me as well; from the staff at the B&B, Minnie and Will, to the B&B residents and the flirty Detective Sam Holden, and others, the reader is treated to well-crafted characters. I liked the romantic frisson between Charlene and Sam. Whilst the storyline builds upon the previous books, the novel can easily be enjoyed as an individual read.
The author gave me everything I desire from a fantastic cozy mystery making it easy to escape right into the humorous, light story and I appreciated the clever way Salem’s setting and culture were embedded into the tale. The suspects popped, the pacing was even and there were more than enough twists and surprises along with a mega climactic finish. If you enjoy a great ghostly cozy you need to check out this series. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Mrs. Morris and the Sorceress and I can't wait to read the first in the series, Mrs. Morris and the Ghost, as well as revisiting Charlene and Jack in book five, Mrs. Morris and the Vampire.

TRACI WILTON HAS LEARNED HER LESSON AND MADE A MJOR FAN OUT OF ME!

In this book: Charlene takes Avery to see a play during dress rehearsals. During the rehearsal one of the actresses is shot and ends up dyiny despite the play meaning to represent no wars, let alone gunshots. Charlene dons her sluething cap to track down the killer.
THOUGHTS: Firstly a massive thank you to Traci Wilton. I went into this book a little trepedaciously given my experience with book 2 being over-paranormalized. With the title of this one including the word 'Sorceress' I did wonder if we'd get too much paranormal again. But we didn't. It was the perfect amount! I love Charlene as our MC and really appreciated my time with Avery in this one too, as Wilton allowed us to get to know her a lot better. I love every scene with Jack and really appreciate that Wilton allows Jack to stand on his own. Truly another fantastic book in this amazing series!

There were a lot of things I liked about this mystery and the series as a whole. I like Charlene. She's a good person who just wants justice. I understand her wanting to make sure the killer is caught but her involvement in the actual investigation didn't seem necessary. She didn't know the victim and from what she learned of the victim as her investigation went on, she wouldn't have liked the victim had she known her. . I enjoy her interaction with her guests and the fact that she actually works instead of just disappearing to solve the mystery. I will continue with the series but hope that in future books, her involvement is warranted.

I am absolutely loving this series. I usually take my time with cozies and read them sporadically. This is one of the first.thsy I have binge read the first few books of. I mean Salem, witches, ghosts and mysteries....what's not to love.

Charlene Morris is hosting a group of guests at her B&B over the Fourth of July and has seats for everyone to see the one time play about Salem’s contribution to the American Revolution. Everyone is in the spirit and as the second act opens, one of the replica rifles is dropped and discharges, leaving the lead actress dead, shot right through the heart.
It is soon discovered that the rifles did not contain active ammunition, meaning someone shot the actor from the crowd. Getting her guests back to the B&B and providing any assistance she and her resident ghost can to help the police find the murderer are Charlene’s top priorities. She can’t help getting involved when she witnessed the murder take place, it��s just part of who she is, but this time she may have stuck her nose in one time too many. Can Charlene and Jack help find the murderer or will Charlene be joining Jack and haunting the mansion for ever as a couple?
I love all things Salem and this series makes me happy. From the B&B to the cat, Silva, to the history shared about some piece of Salem’s history in each book, it always delivers along with a solid and well crafted mystery. Charlene learns alot in this book. She finally realizes that she has been taking too many risks in trying to solve this case. Her relationship with Jack Strathmore is so bittersweet, because they have sparks between them even though he is nothing more than a ghost. As a reader, I want this relationship so bad, but the feelings she has for Detective Sam Holden are strong too. Will she ever get to put her whole heart into either man? I can't wait to see what Charlene endures next. Everytime I read these books by Traci Hall and Patrice Wilton I am completely swept away and enthralled in the wonderful stories they write. They are a powerful duo and write so beautifully together.

Each book in this series just gets better and better!
The fourth book has Charlene and her guests attending Salem’s local Fourth of July festivities, including a new play put on by the local theatre group. Misfortune befalls the play, and Charlene once again finds herself thrown into the middle of a murder investigation.
What I like the most about this series is how the authors draw you in with a cast of interesting and eclectic characters. The reader gets to see some of their favorite characters from previous books and gets introduced to a slew of new, intriguing individuals that I hope pop up in the future.
This book in particular saw some character growth for our protagonist, Charlene, that I was happy to see. I also laughed more reading this book than the previous three based solely on character interactions. It was a genuine joy to read and I’m looking forward to reading the next books in the series!

It’s the Fourth of July and Charlene and her friends are watching a play what can go wrong? A lovely day out turns into murder that needs to be solved and quickly before someone else gets hurt. Poor Charlene just can’t catch a break, she sure can’t stand by and let the cops including Sam figure this one out alone. Seeing new characters as well as old ones I love, especially Jack is like being with old friends again at a reunion! As Charlene navigates who the killer could be or not be what she finds out even surprised me! I loved the ending and I didn’t guess the killer- which was fantastic! Book 4 in this series didn’t disappoint and of course I’m already dying to read what’s next! This can be read as a standalone with no problems but as always I recommend you read the entire series as it’s so addictive! Love this series so much!

Princess Fuzzypants here: I have loved the first Mrs. Morris books. The relationship between widowed B & B owner, Charlene, and Jack, the ghost of the previous owner whose murder she helps solve was and is delightful. The burgeoning but doomed love they share is bittersweet. There is q gap between them that can never be bridged. But up until now, the local detective with whom Charlene enjoys a testy but respectful friendship has been in the wings to do what Jack cannot. That is until this book when he seems to have lost patience with Charlene’s input in his investigations and has become abrupt and rude to her.
A young starlet is shot and killed during a July 4th theatrical production. This woman has used all her wiles all her life to get what she wants. Victory at all costs has been her mantra. There are numerous people she has trampled on her quest so there is no shortage of suspects from her own family to the people with whom she works.
The reader can forgive her detective friend for losing his patience as Charlene does have a habit of charging head first into situations. But there is no affection in his dismay and therein lies my biggest issue with the book. Rather than enjoying the relationships wherever they may lead, this one misses the mark by just enough to turn this from being above average to average. I hope future adventures can get back on track.

Have I ever told you how much I love this series? No? Well, let me tell you. The Salem B & B Mystery series is by far my favorite cozy series. This book, the 4th in the series is, at the moment, my favorite. Though there’s always the possibility it will be pushed aside for the next book. LOL. Each book is better than the last and the characters grow with each new story.
In Mrs. Morris and the Sorceress, we find Charlene caught in the middle of a mystery. This time, we have actors and actresses, ghosts and sorceresses. There are jilted lovers and lovers to be. Old friends and new friends. Not to mention Jack, our friendly neighborhood ghost and Silva, the cat and Sam, our sexy detective.
When the local acting troupe puts on a special one time performance, everyone is there to see it. But when someone is shot, the question is, was it an accident or was it a role to die for? Charlene manages to find herself in a few tight corners. Will she solve the mystery? You’ll have to read it to see!

I enjoyed this cozy paranormal mystery quite a bit. This is completely out of order and the first that I’ve read in this series but it was easy to follow and I found that it could have been a stand alone. But, I’m glad that it’s not since I really enjoyed it and want to now go back and read the previous books. Madison is an actress who is shot in front of a crowd, during a public performance of a play. There’s a bit of a spooky vibe since apparently Madison was able to hypnotize others simply by using her eyes. The crime is brazen and yet who did it is not clear, even though there were many eyewitnesses. Charlene “Mrs. Morris” investigates, despite knowing it will irritate Detective Sam Holden—who is also a potential suitor for Charlene. I prefer the chemistry between Charlene and her resident ghost Jack, but don’t know how that could possibly work. They also seem to have genuine affection, as well as investigating well together. I look forward to reading the previous books and then future books to see where the authors lead Charlene’s romantic life.

Mrs. Morris and the Sorceress by Traci Wilton is the fourth in the Salem B&B mystery series, and is fast becoming one of my favorite cozy mystery series. Charlotte, who owns a bed and breakfast in Salem, Massachusetts compete with the resident ghost of the previous owner, is accompanying her guests to a local outdoor play when one of the actors is shot on stage. Since Charlotte is friends with another of the actors, she quickly becomes involved in trying to solve the murder.
There is so much to like about this series, especially the well-developed, relatable cast of characters who would be great to have as friends. I love the complex just-a-hint-of-romance relationship that Charlotte has with her ghost Jack, which puts me in mind of The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. Of course no cozy mystery would be complete without the hunky detective to complicate things.
The author also captures the essence of Salem, making the reader long for a getaway at Charlotte’s B&B and an opportunity to explore the area. This is the 4th book in the B&B Mystery series and I enjoyed it. I've been a fan of this series since book 1 and I really like the idea of a B&B in Salem. The characters including the guests are always interesting, particularly Avery. Charlene was hit and miss for me in this book. I'm struggling a bit with her feelings for her resident ghost, Jack. Hopefully, that won't get in the way of what I consider a good cozy series.

Even at the fourth book in the series, it is still going strong. Charlene is once again in the thick of a murder, and she uses her sleuthing skills to help find the murderer…or will the murderer find her first? I really like this cozy mystery, but I’m starting to be even more frustrated at the very minor romance aspect. Jack is a ghost, and Sam can be a jerk. I am not really fond of either, but I feel Jack being a ghost is keeping Charlene a little too tied to the B&B. Aside from that fly in the ointment, I really enjoy this series, and I think if you like cozy mysteries, you will like this too. Recommend.
