My biggest mistake was faking my way into my job. It wasn’t even my job, but my twin’s. Unfortunately, Chad broke his leg and begged me to fill in for him. Now I’m up to my eyeballs in craziness. Not only am I clueless about being someone’s personal assistant, I’m knee-deep in trouble. Mr. Maximus Russo is smoking-hot and I can’t seem to resist him, no matter how much of a prick he is.
The guy’s world is nothing but drama. I’m allergic to drama. Then I find out he’s some badass wolf shifter who’s not only a high-powered lawyer, but a crime boss, too. Trust me, I tried to run, to get away from his insane world, but Max isn’t letting me go. He’s an alpha’s alpha, and I’m so screwed.
Deals gone bad. Territorial wars. Bullets flying. A deep, smooth voice. Hot, passionate nights that leave me breathless. Killer looks that are my undoing. What’s a guy to do?
NOTE: This story is an expansion of "Fake It 'til You're Fired" from Lynn Hagen's Erotic Short Stories, Volume 2. Some names were changed and the story has been extensively revised and expanded to a full novella.
Lynn Hagen loves writing about the somewhat flawed, but lovable. She also loves a hero who can see past all the rough edges to find the shining diamond of a beautiful heart.
You can find her on any given day curled up with her laptop and a cup of hot java, letting the next set of characters tell their story.
Rating: 3 stars I think this book would have been better if Mr. Russo wouldn’t have been a wolf shifter. That aspect didn’t really feel integral to the story. I would have liked it better if Max would just have been a straight up mobster. All in all, it was okay. I’m curious to see if the author will write more in the series and maybe flesh out the paranormal aspect a bit more.
Max Russo was a good character, but Hagen didn’t develop him enough. But I’m not surprised, she never takes the time to really write out her characters. Everything is rushed.
And why did Derek have to be a klutz? She seems to love those kind of guys for her “big alpha men”.
Apparently this book is a short story with stuff added to make it longer. It shows. I bet if I sat down I could pick out parts from original. The falling in love—no, it is true love was abrupt. Made little sense when it came up in story. Potential Spoiler Alert at end of review H. His O. Omega L. Loves E. Erections 2.25
Why the heck did it take any of them more than a minute to realize twin problem?
Interesting.. Crime boss slash lawyer slash wolf shifter... I'm not sure about the crime boss part, although it says that, as in more of a wolf pack thing settling things..
It wasn't over imbued with sex. Start off with a romping round in the office but not a whole lot after... and Max isn't really super nice most of the time. Still I want to see where this goes.
Derek ends up over his head when he tries to fake his way to covering for his injured twin at his new job which turns out to be wolf shifter lawyers who also dabble in the dark side of the law when it comes to protecting what they think is theirs
I love Lynn Haven't books she writes great warewolf stories as always they're to short but posts of adventure & mayhem but you also get a HEA Thanks - Lori
I just love stories about mobsters or crime bosses and I love it even more when the crime boss is a wolf shifter (like Max) who falls in love with his klutzy assistant, Derek. Derek slowly worked his way into Max's heart and had accepted his dangerous lifestyle. This book was full of suspense, danger, and love. Exciting plot and compelling characters. This was a very entertaining and intriguing read. Excellent. :D
