The Whiskeys are growing in power, and they have no idea why.
Paige Whiskey is now the unofficial liaison between the Elder Council and the paranormal community, and she’s been put on a mission for months now to bring more paranormals in. Trouble is brewing on the horizon. Everyone can feel it, but no one has a clue what it might be.
When the regional alpha gets a call from the Utah pack, requesting a trial with Paige, she’s not quite certain what to expect. The only thing she knows for sure is that her family is growing in shifter power and the region needs to more shifters to help counter and control it.
But what she learns in Utah brings the kind of understanding she doesn’t quite know what to do with. The ancients are coming, and they’re using her family to arrive.
If you haven’t read any of the Whiskey Witches, you are missing one heck of a treat. This story takes place at the same time as Big Bad Djinn, Red Star Division’s first book. Paige is a bad a$$ witch, a demon summoner with a door to hell carved into her soul and an animal spirit, Cawli, that has chosen to join her and hold the door closed. If that’s not enough, her sister, Leslie, also has been chosen by a spirit animal and the shifter pack power is growing dangerously strong. Poor Paige is being pulled in so many different directions she barely has time to sleep, much less spend any time with her family. She thinks she is finally going to spend a bit of time with her family and check out the Red Star office (which she is supposed to be in charge of) when another problem arises. A large pack in Utah is threatening to leave the region because of Paige’s magic and her shifter spirit. She will have to complete several trials that the Utah pack poses to her to retain their support. The more she learns about herself and their shifter spirits the more she’s freaking out. This is one FANTASTIC addition to the Whiskey Witches saga and I couldn’t put it down once I started. I had to force myself to stop reading at 4 am to get a few hours sleep so I could finish it. This book would be a wonderful read for anyone liking witches, shifters, or a book with a native american feel. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Shiftings (Whiskey Witches Series Boxset Book 2): Since these were three different series, I read each series instead of the first book of all three and then the second books. Since I've read all the books since Demon Whiskey, it didn't hurt the reading order. If you're new to the Whiskey Witches world, you'll do yourself a favor by starting with the first book Whiskey Witches. While each book can be read without the previous books, there are ongoing storylines carried through the all the series. Knowing the past just makes for a richer, deeper understanding of the individual books. I contacted Blooding to review her books.
F. J. Wolfram, Big Bad Djinn #1 - This is my second read by this author and I enjoyed BBD. I've read the Whiskey Witches series and this spinoff is the next step. After reading Double-Double Demon by Wolfram, I backtracted to this series. BBD is Dexx's domain, with Paige being elsewhere working leaving him behind to handle things. Well written, fast paced and with plenty of action, which is what D-DD shares. The characters aren't unknown to us that have read WW and the new ones add depth and conflict to the story. There's plenty of intrigue, suspense and humor to keep the reader glued to the pages. 4*
F. J. Wolfram, Lizard Wizard #2 - This is probably better than Big Bad Djinn, which was pretty good. Well written, fast paced and funny, LW is a great addition to the series. Dexx has grown in his roles. The intriguing storylines twist like a bronco keeping the reader's interest until the last page. I'm ready for more of the Red Star gang. 4*
Hattie Hunt, Bear Moon #1 - This is my first read by this author and I enjoyed BM. Well written and intriguing. These characters are interesting and characters from the Whiskey Witches are present, too. The twisting plot holds suspense, gamut of emotions and is fast paced. 4*
Hattie Hunt, Grizzly Attraction #2 - A bear and a porcupine? Sometimes diversity is too much, but it didn't matter in this interesting story. Well written with the emphasis heavy on family and friends, this was a quickly read story. The characters were good, even the baddies, and made for an interesting and entertaining story. 4*
S. M. Blooding, Desert Shaman #1 - More of the Whiskey Witches and Paige is going nuts with all her responsibilities. Well written and filled with intrigue and suspense, this fast paced story keeps the reader immersed until the end. The old characters are dealing, again, with new, nasty characters. But there's still humor, along with more paranormal dudes. 4*
S. M. Blooding, Whiskey on the Rocks #2 - Paige has less than four weeks to go before their twins are born and is she at home resting for the big event? Are you new to the series? Heck no, she's working. Well written, intriguing, fast paced, just the normal writing style of Ms. Blooding, along with a good dose of humor. The characters are great as always and keep the twisting storylines moving and the reader immersed in all the happenings. Another WW story well done. 4* Shiftings Series End.
Paranormal Action Romance Shifters Demons Angels Witches This is book 3 in the series "Whiskey Witches: Season 2 {Shiftings}" I recommend to read them all in order starting with the first season so that you have a better idea what is happening and events that they are talking about. This is Paige's story as Dexx and the rest of the Whiskeys' are busy in Big Bad Djinn. Paige is off to Utah to try to bring the shifters that live there back into the fold. She has to go through trials to get four of the five alphas there to trust her and her family of witches and shifters. While here she learns that the ancients are coming back and both her sister Leslie and Dexx host two of them and her unborn babies will be hosting two others. Is the spirit animal she is hosting one and can she shift or not are questions that can be answered by reading the book and the rest of the series Like the others in the series starting from book 1 in "Whiskey Witches: Origins" there are many twists that are happening and Paige is questioning herself still not trusting her instincts and self. The first season: Origins contains the following books in order: Whiskey Witches, Blood Moon Magick, Barrel of Whiskey, Witches of the West Second season: Shiftings/ Red Star Division contains the following books in order: Big Bad Djinn, Bear Moon, Desert Shaman, Lizard Wizard, Grizzly Attraction, Whiskey on the Rocks Sven Seven Tails Crossover contains the following books in order: Double Double Demon Trouble, Mirror Mirror Demon Rubble, Dead Demon. . .Die

“The ancients are coming ...” and they’re using Paige Whiskey’s family to get here.
S.M. Blooding’s Whiskey Witches might very well be my favorite urban fantasy right now (and I read tons in this genre, from both major publishers and indies). The core to this is her Whiskey Witches - Origins series, currently at four books. You need need need (yes, that’s deliberate repetition) to read that series from the start before turning to this one. If you do so you will be fully primed by the time you reach this wonderful book, Desert Shaman, which answers a ton of questions (including just why the Whiskey clan has been growing in power so much) while opening up new lines of adventure and providing a top notch plot in and of itself. Desert Shaman is centered on Paige Whiskey, though other Family and friends have a role. It’s a fantastic story for any reader and especially satisfying to those who have, naturally enough, become addicted fans of the books.
Very highly recommended.
(As an aside, there also are two related series, the Shadow Sisterhood series or Red Star Division series (the latter under the pen name Hattie Hunt as she co-wrote it). You don’t need to read those in order to get the full impact of this new series - even though they’re also great.)
It Desert Shaman is the first book I have read in the Whiskey Witches series and I loved it. There are more Whiskey Witches in my future! Although this is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone, but be prepared to dive further into the series.
I love Paige - as a witch and demon Hunter, she really has no patience with the shifters and what she sees as their need to over- complicate things with a need for mysterious rituals. She just wants to be home with her kids and mate. Yet, things are happening and everyone seems to think she is the only one who can deal with them. So Paige sucks it up, goes to Utah to check out the issues and hopes that she can get home before her baby is born.
Except there are two babies, each the embodiment of an Ancient. Her sister has become the embodiment of another Ancient. No one knows why and the Shifter packs, who are suspicious of witches in the best of times, are going into protection mode by pulling back into the desert.
I thoroughly enjoyed Desert Shaman and the paranormal world S. M. Blooding has created. I will be visiting again soon.

This book was well written and entertaining as always even though it isn't so much a witches and pack story as a Paige story. In spite of concerns about her special investigations detachment, her kids, her sister's new shifter powers and her ever present concerns about what the demons and angels are up to, Paige agrees to Chuck's request to present herself for shifter-witch tests in order to keep another pack in Chuck's regional shifter organization. There's a lot of information in this one that will, no doubt, be critical to understanding the stories that will follow, the introduction of a bunch of new "ancient" shifter types and the usual, fighting the bad guys to save the locals action but it did lack the intensity of the usual kicking butt, saving the world and catching the bad guys story lines and I missed the sassy, funny interplay between Paige and Dexx and the side story drama provided by Alma, Leslie, the kids and the Division staff. Still it was a worthwhile read and I enjoyed discovering more of what was going on with the witch-shifter-ancient plot line.
Another fantastic addition to the Whiskey Witches Universe season 2 ( Shiftings book 1 ), this is such a fantastic story and Paige is the unofficial liaison between the elder council and the paranormal community. Paige is being taken away from her family with all of these missions she’s being sent to do and she’s not happy. Paige finds out why her family are growing in power and it has to do with the ancients using her family, there is so much in this story I could go on and on but I won’t I will keep it short. I love Paige she is a tough woman with a very unladylike mouth she is hilarious. Some questions are answered and there are surprises along the way. This is a fantastic story/ series and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.
Desert Shaman by S. M. Blooding is an amazing fast track paranormal adventure! I really loved this book because story took off like a rocket and was such fun to read. The main character Paige is sarcastic and funny. In the story she is sent on a trip she doesn’t want to go on in more ways than one and has no problem letting those around her know of her displeasure with having to do it. I really felt like I was in this book instead of just reading it! Paige is my favorite type of character snarky, opinionated, and out to save the world. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a great story!
I keep on hoping that this series will never end. There is no end to the creativity and innovation S.M.Blooding is creating in this series. This is one of those books and series every paranormal fan should read.
The growth that one sees in Paige as an individual, as a witch, as a sister, mother and more is mind blowing. From a witch whose memories and powers were locked, to a gateway to hell, to a grieving mother and more, Paige and her family of misfits has come a long long way.
Simply Irresistible.

In this book we find out more about why Paige's powers are getting stronger and so much more. So many questions are answered but we also get some new ones. The ancients are trying to return and need Paige and her family's powers to do it. This is a well written, page turning, suspenseful story filled with magic, adventures, romance, humor and new intriguing characters. This is part of the Whiskey Witches Universe and I highly recommend you read them in order or you will be lost. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
Not sure how to explain this tale other than something is going to happen in the magical world--Something big and bad was going to happen and Paige Whiskey finds herself in the middle of it. Paige is a powerful witch that is able to shape shift and just found out that she is pregnant with twins that will have powers even greater than her own. She is being tested by other parts of the magical world to see if she is strong enough to lead them in this magical battle. A bit too technical and drawn out for me but an interesting story with many books to read before you get the answers!
I bet that Paige Whiskey is really REALLY getting tired of tests. This novel chronicles another set of tests that Paige has to meet, never mind the multiple problems she thinks have priority. Boy, does she have problems getting a break. For all that Paige's challenges are things I will never face, I definitely relate to how she feels overwhelmed by the changes in her life and how she faces them.

This is not a complete story, rather an introduction to the characters. This new trend of withholding information is something I find rather annoying. Maybe the purpose is to build tension? I don't want to be spoon fed a story, but I like a book to have a beginning, a middle and an end. I guess these episodic stories are just not for me. This may be more of a novella. I enjoyed the characters and The storyline, just wish there was more.
This is a spin-off from the Whiskey Witches series which I haven't read. I found it a quick read with a likeable main character and a lot of intriguing supernatural elements. I'm now interested in reading the series it spins off from as the Whiskey family all sound pretty kick-ass. Recommended to urban fantasy fans!
I loved this book as much as all the others in the series. It takes up where the last one finishes. Paige is sent to bring another pack back into the fold. First she must prove herself to the other pack and the spirits who rule them. She finds out something important to do with her pregnancy. Totally engrossing.
Paige Whiskey is being tested in ways she could never have imagined. Wow, these characters are well written, and at times, genuinely funny. Plenty of twists in the plot that kept me guessing and many different magical beings, and lots of action.

Warning: MAJOR spoilers, so read the earlier books first. I know, I still have not read Book 1 and many of those in between, but I am a reviewer and do not have the luxury of choosing when things pop up in my queue. This one is family-friendly and can be read in a long morning.

Desert Shaman: Whiskey Witches Supernatural Thriller by S.M. Blooding is a wonderful story to read. This is book number three in this wonderful series that I love reading and I highly recommend this to anyone who loves shifters.

An extremely fast paced book whose main character is a witch and more. Part of the story is her figuring out how much more and how much witch. Her life is complicated beyond belief, which makes the story complicated and hard to follow at times. Several grammatical issues will also trip the reader up as you sort out the complications written into the storyline.
There were a few words missing out of a few sentences but I still got the meaning of what the author was trying to say. Paige is a very strong character and stayed a bit confused until the end of the book. This is a series so if you plan on reading the next book then this one might make more since.
I wish I had read the previous Whiskey Witches series before I started this book, but it was successful as a stand-alone story although with lots of references to events that already happened. The plot and the growing power of the protagonist and her family kept me hooked throughout.
I really thought I would enjoy this book but there was just too much going on for it to be the first book and too cryptic to understand what is going on. I hate that I paid for it.
The ancients are coming and want to use Paige Whiskey's family to get here! Finally they know why their powers have been growing. But what will happen to the Whiskey's once the ancients arrive? Well written, with a great plot and characters, just wish it was a little longer...
Desert Shaman: Whiskey Witches Supernatural Thriller S.M. Blooding An interesting book, with Paige as our heroine. All of the characters were good! The storyline flowed as well.

Take a bucking bronco ride with worried-with-good -reason Paige, a pregnant, powerful, witch-plus. How our old myths and legends relate to our current world begins to unfold.
I liked the characters in this book. It was a very interesting story. I was certainly drawn into the story line. It does have a cliffhanger effect to it though.
I’m a big fan of fantasy. This is a first time read of this author. I really enjoyed how the world building was laid out thorough out the book. The character building is good as well. I’m excited to continue on.
