This would make a great TV series!

I have enjoyed Bob & Nikki since book 1. The characters are growing and maturing. The plots are expanding & becoming more enjoyable & complicated.
The greatest thing about these stories is that Jerry doesn't think they have to be full of foul language and graphic mutilation & sex in order to be entertaining.
I do enjoy a good hair raising action-adventure. Fleets , armies, scifi or fantasy fighting to the last, complex skuldugery and plots within plots, but Bob & Nikki are humorous, fun, & refreshing. Thank you Jerry & Book 11 will be out tomorrow? :-)

Real talent but needs some polish

Jerry"s story is great- very engaging. His dialog is...terrible. If I have to read one more conversation about how great the boss is and how much the bots like working for him, I'm going to have a stroke. Jerry retells the same scenario over and over, ad nauseam.
Jerry has talent, but he needs to work on realistic dialogue.

Having said that, I very much enjoyed the storyline.

I was near the finish of Monkey Business when I heard that Jerry Boyd had died. Between the summer of 2019 and the summer of 2024, Boyd published 49 Bob and Nikki novels. Fellow indie writer Nathan Lowell describes the series as a near-parody of space opera and says Boyd “succeeded by doing everything wrong.” His Facebook page features a picture of him chained to his desk with the comment that his wife will free him when he writes another thousand words. At the speed he composed, he would not be chained for long.
Like other books in the series, Monkey Business is a peppy, dialogue-driven story. Nikki is pregnant, and Bob and the bots are refurbishing a mothballed fleet of warships. The space-faring squirrels are acting feisty, and like it or not, Bob must act like a commodore. It should be as easy as he tells one crewmember it is to be an executive officer: “It’s a simple job, really. If something is happening, panic. If not, worry. Did I miss anything?” But, as Bob also frequently reminds us, “Murphy is our shepherd.”
Rest easy, Jerry. One day, a pretty alien girl in a flying saucer with an amazing medbay is bound to arrive and put you back in Murphy’s arms.

Always one step ahead

Conversational writing takes some getting used to versus narrative styles. My first thought was a BETTER mix of of both styles would make this story sing a bit more, I still believe that's the punch it needs. Characterations so centered around one person or cadre of people gets a little Warren down over time. Yet it gets interesting when a philosophy or trait of a central character explodes into a way of seeing life with associates and there stories come forefront. Lots of potential with the cast presented. Mr. Boyds wordsmithing aside this story is still strong and the options available for further efforts are endless.

Another joy ride!

Fun reading! Would have read it in one session but my iPad died first and my eyelids were having a hard time staying up.
Not as much Nikki in this book, lots to do with bots. I swear they are becoming human with loyalties and ties to old bot friends.
Formatting remains an issue, but not as bad as in earlier books. Things like incorrect paragraph breaks, font changes, and too much white space. Nothing that gets in the way of enjoying the story, just momentarily takes me out of the story because I notice it.
I’m already waiting for the next one!

A favorite thing.

An unexpected and most welcome gift. This one showed up the night before the day I really need to get our taxes done. Decided it was just the mood improver I needed. Read it and now I'm heading off to get everything done and filed. With. A. Smile. On. My. Face. Thank you!!!

When this series is completed (hopefully, far into the future) and I've sent all possible Kindle Unlimited page read monies Mr. Boyd's way, I m most probably going to do something I seldom do and buy the digital series outright. But this should oughtta be done in print?

Book ten

Mistakes: I didn’t find any mistakes in this book, however I do think some kind of a divide other than a few spaces should be between the forward and the actual start of the book.

Plot: There is a lot going on in this book. We got rescues, mutiny, bad guys, traders, stranded reporters, stowaways, and some space battles with really small body counts.

Characters: It’s a very eclectic group that we have in these books. I did find it a little hard to swallow how easily family took to the execution of a couple bad apples.

A fun read

Giving this book a5 just because I really liked it, how's that sound. I discovered the Bob & Nikki books by accident on Amazon and they are a very fun read. Short and quick to read. I've gone through all 10 books in 11 days now. If you like a quick humorous read you can do much worse than these. In a way they remind me of the Xanth books with their constant return to a running stream of jokes based on a popular culture theme . Hope you enjoy them as much as I have. Can't wait till the next one.

One of the better ones in the series so far.

I really enjoyed this installment in the saga of Bob & Nikki. I'm glad there are 40 books in the series (as of the date this review was written) because I don't want the ride to end anytime soon.

He has a different writing style than most authors, for one thing there are no chapter breaks. There are kind breaks between scenes though, so I've had no problems following along.

Read it. If you're new to the series, go get the first book and start there, today!

Super fun series! Book # 10 hard to believe I have read that many.

I love everything blackout this series and the books just keep getting better. Bob started out as a maintenance man in a factory and he is a Commodore with a fleet of ships. He treats everyone the same doesn't matter if they are human, Starwood, or robot if they are part of his family he makes sure they are happy while he is also putting them in their best spot to work for Bob's Suacer Service. You really don't want to mess with his people. Lots of snark and fun too.

Still Enjoyable Fiction

While there are some short comings in these stories, some tech issues which too conveniently resolve through sudden knowledge, or character flaws which turn into situational bonuses, the stories remain enjoyable and I have found it easy to overlook any perceived issues. Rarely do I find a series which remains as much fun to read as this one has been. In fact, I think the abundance of dialog would make this a great illustrated novel series.

Commodore Bob

This series is still engaging to me. Like others, I struggled with no chapters and all discuss, but this was the authors intent. Bob doesn’t have time to describe what he’s doing or seeing, because he’s living it.

Something that struck me today is that I’d totally put a “Bob’s Saucer Repair” bumper sticker on my little beater as long as it has their tag line on it, “Murphy is our Shepard”. Hope Boyd see this and make a mint.

It is always a pleasure to read one of the Bob and Nikki books!

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I've run out of superlatives to use when reviewing one of the Bob and Nikki books. They are all written so well that it is always, always an enjoyable time reading one of the episodes! If you're reading this because you just finished number 9, stop debating and start reading number 10.

One of a kind series

Most space series are just a few books long. I read the first book a few years back and thought it would only be 2 or 3 books so I moved on to other books. I came back in 2024 to discover there were 49 books. It takes little getting used to not having any chapter designations but I am amazed at how the story just flows. The characters are great, funny and interesting.

Great fun read!

Loved it. Have read all 10 in the last week, and I couldn't get enough. All the characters,as well as the storyline, are wonderfully written, and while being Scifi, the ongoing story isn't clogged with scientific gobbledygook. Definitely a very entertaining series. Now I guess I have to wait for book #11.

Another great story!

Can I make arrangements to spend some time in an auto dock? I have a paintball gun and I want to join Bob's crew! If ever there was a group of more likeable characters, they'll be as had to find as Charlie's planet. I can barely wait to see what happens next!

Ridiculously great!

Well, I don’t know what to say. I usually don’t like books that use magic technology to explain how their character succeed. However, Bob, Nikki, and the amazing cast of characters around them is always a good treat. I can suspend my disbelief easily, without a lot of struggle.

I can’t wait for the next book to come out! Get to writing Boyd!

What joy to read this series

Thank you so much for the joy you bring to us readers. I absolutely love your style and topics covered in this series. I am a little sad the next one is going to be the last in the series. I will look out for a new books you might allow us to devour in the future, or present if I don’t know any better.

These books are great. The action is non-stop and the humor just keeps coming. One warning they are addictive as all get out. Bob gets more experience dealing with the squirrels solves some mysteries and gains some great new tech. Great Sci-fi reading with a difference. Do yourself a favor. Start with book one and dig in. These books are fun.

it’s quarter to one, I’m sick, and I stayed up

… to finish this book. Number 10. This one is more Horatio Hornblower than the previous ones. And even though I’ve been getting over a bad cold, I’ve read 10 in a row since last Friday.

It’s pulp. It’s good pulp and it’s getting better.

Too much fun!

These books do exactly what they should do. They make you smile, they make you remember fun times when you were a kid. They remind you how we should all get along with each other. I hope they continue for a long time.

Always an excellent read!!!

Superb as always. Very easy, conversational read that flows along nicely. My only complaint is that the books are too short and aren't released close enough together :)

I was impressed with the earlier books,

but these just keep getting better. They are not what some would call true Sci-fi but to me they are truly entertaining. They really make me want to actually meet an intelligent species, of the friendly persuasion of course

Going to find lost fleet

Continued adventure of Bob and Nikki, be sure to check logic at the door. It is a fast paced story that holds together very well. As I said the story is a fantasy with little in the way of scientific facts.
