Unexpected Tales: Four Stories of Kaiatan

Rate this book
Four countries. Four trials. Four heroes with the courage to change everything.

In an underwater village in Nokailana, can the friendship of the new boy and a pretty girl last, or will his arrogant dad ruin everything?

In Iskra, a young man must stay in alone for a month to be considered an adult, if the desert doesn't kill him first.

In Darrendra, land of the shape-shifters, a young woman aims to be a five-year champion in a cross-country horse race.

In winged Ioj, a newly chosen priest finds his back-country origins to be a disadvantage that might send him home.

Each short story carries the heartbeat of a different world, yet together they hum in harmony as snapshots of courage, belonging, and quiet heroism. These thrilling selections are from Unexpected Heroes, a clean YA secondary world fantasy series. They can be read in any order without spoilers.

This was a book of four tales that interweave in the end with the choices placed before each of the characters. Each story is unique on its own and when you have read the complete selection you are left with that deja vu of seeing how they are interconnected and how the choices bear on the storyline. Truly interesting.

This collection of vignettes from the amazing world of Kaiatan was uplifting and relatable. I loved seeing the variety of personalities and magical places that came to life as I read this book, and I’m excited to explore this world further and learn what happens to each of the characters I was introduced to! The stories are family friendly, too, which made it even more fun to read!

I loved three of the stories. I thought Winds went a little long. I really liked Marathon. I thought it showed great depth of character for the girl.

This is an imaginative, great collection with four distinct stories and memorable settings. The characters are easy to root for, and each story has a strong theme of courage and belonging.

Very bizarre

Each story was about choices. The choices that they want and the choice they are given. Each story was about a single choice that was not what was wanted but had to accept. Flying people was a bit of a stretch but somewhat believable
