A Car Crash You Cannot Look Away From!
Mother Maggot by Simon McHardy is a book that will leave you shocked, disgusted, and entertained all at the same time. The best way I can describe it in short it is like a car crash that even though it’s horrific you simply cannot tear your eyes away from it.
I kept hearing fantastic things about Simon’s book, but I was not fully aware of everything it had packed within it’s pages. Once I started reading I could not stop! Out of the gates running Mother Maggot is horrific, graphic, brutal, disgusting, and overall amazing! This is not for weak stomached people. If you couldn’t watch The Human Centipede or thought it was gross… well, you have not seen anything yet!
Mother Maggot follows the storylines of two individuals. Eddie’s parents died, he is taken in by his Aunt Nella, and his life is forever changed. Eddie soon develops some strange sexual desires, and he will go to any length to get what he wants.
Cindy is the other character whose storyline is also followed. Her story begins on Prom Night, but later she becomes a homicide detective with her own depraved sexual fetishes. Like Eddie, she will do whatever it takes to get what she wants.
Mother Maggot was so difficult for me to categorize because it seems to have everything a Splatterpunk fiend loves! Murder, sex, really bizarre sexual situations, monsters, filth, depravity, bugs (especially maggots), insane fetishes, death, corpses, necrophilia, and so much more! McHardy will set you on a path through a gauntlet of depraved horror delight! The writing is well done, and I absolutely admire the fact that Simon doesn’t remove his Aussie lingo and terminology from his writing. I really do not want to give spoilers away, because this one is best to go into headfirst for a crazy and wild ride! However, as I stated this is next level disgusting Splatterpunk, and those who are weak stomached or faint of heart you better be prepared.
I really had to think of how to rate this book. There is absolutely so much that happens it is amazing considering the page length. The creativity and the research into fetishes, and other unsavory topics alone is admirable. I sure hope Simon’s searches still do not haunt his computer. I learned a lot of things I would have never guessed existed from Mother Maggot, and that is truly mind blowing!
I have to give Mother Maggot by Simon McHardy five stars out of five stars. I haven’t read anything like this before. It is the most flat out nasty and gross Splatterpunk book I’ve read so far. In regards to the content is what I mean. A lot of the topics in the book will make bile rise in your throat, others will leave you in stitches, and others will leave you befuddled. Simon McHardy is truly a horse of a different color, and I like that!
To all of my fellow Splatterpunk junkies out there Mother Maggot is a must read! I read it in one sitting. It really is that engrossing… and just gross. Overall, entertaining as all get out. Until next time, my friends.
