There was much more angst in this than there was in the last volume. I really enjoyed this one and absolutely devoured it. I feel we are working our way more into the blooming of a relationship and that will provide plenty of romantic comedy and conflict to make my heart happy.

The main couple is soooo romantically awkward that the evil manager's crassness toward them and manipulation of them are actually seeming more and more reasonable, and she may now be my favorite character in the book.

The cliffhanger tells me there are going to be a lot of artificial obstacles tossed in during the course of this series, but I find myself wanting to continue, so I'm asking the library to buy more. I do worry I will have forgotten most this cast of dozens by the time I have a chance to return to the story.

خوب پیشرفت‌های قابل توجهی داشت داستان. کوکوپه خیلی کیوته⁦(~ ̄³ ̄)~⁩ چیتوسه هم دوست داشتنیه. شخصیت‌های فرعی جذابی هم داره.

My love-hate for Moriyama is the only thing that keeps me interested in this manga.
(Probably also my love for Taiga)

The World Championships are in France and Kokoro is competing for the right to ask Chitose to be his girlfriend. Will they make nice in Nice and ending up Frenching, or is the story in need of secours?

So, this volume is... okay. It’s the very definition of a middle-of-the-road instalment that makes it rather a bear to review. It doesn’t do much of anything wrong, but it’s not getting much right either and what it’s seeding for the future could really drag things down.

I do think Kokoro’s determination to keep trying to make things happen between himself and Chitose is welcome, he’s not super interesting in these chapters otherwise, and I do still enjoy the little touches like how their accents come out around each other.

They also get a smattering of very nice couple moments. Possibly the cutest is when Chitose forgets the magic wand for the spell she casts for Kokoro and improvises in a way that the latter is clearly very pleased about.

Mostly, though, this volume is just aggressively average. The skating competition lacks any oomph; since Kokoro is pushing himself to compete while injured, you know he has pretty much no chance of winning (and after the first half of the competition you likewise know the story is setting him up for failure). It’s not terrible, just without any real dramatic heft after all the build-up.

The skating itself lacks a lot of dynamism, save for the flashback of Chitose and Kokoro’s first meeting towards the end of the book, probably my favourite part of this volume (Chitose on the ice is a delight). But, conversely, you can’t sell the World Championships!? That’s a problem in a book with a high skating focus.

Chitose doesn’t really stick up for herself at all and that lack of confidence is relentless and a drag. Her getting walked over by Kokoro’s manager (who is usually pretty fun but comes across as a plot complication in an apron here) just doesn’t land at all, especially after all she’s done to stay with Kokoro through her efforts prior to this.

When they actually get to do stuff without any baggage or nonsense they make a pretty good couple, but I’m basing that on previous volumes because it’s not what happens here minus the parts I mentioned above. It’s not a good ratio and this book is falling into the trap of thinking that it needs to keep pushing our leads apart while they grow together.

It wouldn’t be so noticeable if it wasn’t so hamfisted, not to mention these two are grown-ass adults who should be allowed to make their own choices (yes yes, pressures of an athlete, magical spells, etc etc, but I’m just saying).

The threat of Kokoro’s family getting involved and making things insufferable is raised again this volume and I have real reservations about that particular story thread from what’s been teased. We’ll see how it goes next time out, I guess...

This series isn’t exactly on thin ice yet, but it’s certainly not sticking any landings either (you’re welcome). With its current penchant for throwing contrived obstacles in the path of our leads, however, it has certainly lost some of its initial lustre.

Today’s post Knight of the Ice, Vol. 3 by Yayoi Ogawa. It is 176 pages long and is published by Kodansha Comics. The cover has Kokoro on it. As it is the third volume in the series you need to have read the first two volumes in the series to understand the story. The intended reader is someone who likes sports manga with a dash of romance. There is some mild foul language, no sex, and no violence in this manga. The story is told third person close of Chitose. There Be Spoilers Ahead.
From the back of the book- A NEW KIND OF MAGIC

After an injury forces Kokoro to withdraw from the Four Continents Championships and sends him spiraling into another slump, Chitose wants to do whatever it takes to convince him to get back on the ice. But to her surprise, Kokoro offers her a shocking proposition: If he places first in the World Championships, he wants to ask Chitose to be his girlfriend! The feeling is mutual, so Chitose wants nothing more than for Kokoro to win. But when Chitose's spell-casting pen goes missing, she'll have to come up with a new kind of magic to motivate Kokoro…

Review- A good volume that moves the plot forward nicely. Kokoro has decided to tell Chitose about his feelings for her and he wants to date her. Of course there are problems with that like one of his managers thinking that dating would ruin his chances to win and all but nothing too out of the ordinary. But the ending I think will have more to do with moving the plot forward as a girl gets into his apartment claiming to be his girlfriend. Also his family is thinking about marrying him off to an heiress as he comes from a wealthy family. Drama ahead but I’m looking forward to reading it.

I give this volume a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

I guess this is josei, not shoujo, since it's heavy on the sexual innuendo and all. But it still has the obnoxious "omg we're too innocent and pure to even consider kissing each other" tone.

They're already dating in this volume, but? Nothing is happening. And I don't mean physically, I mean their relationship may have changed categories, but they're not actually communicating any differently, or with any particular depth. There's not a lot of chemistry...at this point, I like Chitose's boss better with her, which is weird, based on my initial impressions of him.

I would like to know what's actually going on with his married girlfriend, since it does seem clear they are actually sleeping together, so it's not some sort of front. I don't care enough to keep reading the series, though, so I'll try to look around for spoilers about that and about the manager's secrets. (I did wonder if she was trans, but that was presented as a funny fan theory in the previous volume's author's note, and didn't seem like it was something Ogawa had actually intended.)

The skating realism seems decent, at least. I appreciated that Kokoro isn't just endlessly winning competitions because he's the protagonist. Even when he does well and doesn't fall or miss jumps in a competition, there are other skaters (from Canada, the US) who simply have more complex and flawless programs. Which is how it goes in sports.

Knight of the Ice follows Kokoro who is a professional figure skater and his friend, Chitose who is a career woman. Kokoro believes he cannot perform without a spell that Chitose puts on him from their favorite TV show as a kid.
This whole manga series has my heart. I was having so many reactions to this volume and the ending was making me want to pick up the next volume as soon as possible.
I absolutely love these characters so much. They clearly care so much for each other and want what's best for each other. I loved seeing them start to open up to each other after years of really falling for each other. I love Kokoro's team so much. They're so funny and meddle so much but they do it because they really care for these two.
I'm loving how they are showcasing figure skating and the different competitions that happen in figure skating. I love how they use it for context of time passing and for the relationships that these characters are creating.
I am so excited to continue with this manga as I love it so much.

This is about Chitose and Kokoro. He's an ice skating champion that reconnects with his childhood friend and muse.
I liked this volume a little bit less as it's getting a little more convoluted with the business manager interrupting every 10 seconds. But these two are still cute! And definitely interested in reading more of this series.

This series is just adorable. The main characters, Chitose and Kokoro are so sweet and innocent that it is impossible not to love them. The side characters aren’t as loveable but they definitely add interest to the story. Lol.

Pretty good! I love the kokkoro and Chitose. I don't care for the manager at all. The story would be better if she wasn't there to be such a pain. I'm reading the next volume now so we'll see how it goes.

I like this I think it’s interesting and it kind of breaks the fourth wall. However , it seems to lack going all in on its two main plots ice skating or romance. The otaku thing is cute and funny here.

I still love this series! But even though I love Chitose and Kokoro and their sweet relationship, I feel like the pace of this series is a bit slow?

This is a cute story but the leads hiding their feelings and the constant miscommunications, is getting a little old. The story is skewing toward younger teen.

Another solid volume that I ate up!
A little frustrating at times because I just want Chitose and Kokoro to get together already, but the people around them, miscommunication, their own denseness and insecurities, and other obstacles keep getting in the way.
Even so, I enjoyed the payoff and there were lots of laughs and cute moments. LOVED the flashback scene.
