James Anderson is a man who lives in the past.
Since the death of his beloved wife, Margaret, he has stubbornly refused to move on with the times, rejecting new technology in favor of the old and familiar.
While she would love her father to live life to the fullest, Megan also cares for him as best she can. All her spare time is spent with her father or hunting down the VHS movies that provide all the entertainment he needs.

As well as robots, clowns, and living statues, John Watson has an extensive list of things that terrify him. He is of the belief that writing about these horrors will make him immune to their evils, but it is still a work in progress. Mr. Watson spends most of his time hiding out in the closet space beneath the stairs, where he is currently working on a series of scary short stories. He resides in Atlanta with his chef wife Penny and a pair of equally skittish fur babies.

I was very eager to read this seemingly lighter side of John Watson. I always like to see an author stretching their writing wings.
The characters in Be Kind, Rewind were very engaging and had me chuckling along with their antics several times. I had a niggling feeling that something big was going to happen though, and it had me worried with each turn of the page. This book had it all: humor, heartbreak, suspense, happiness. I was hooked from the start and couldn't put it down. What a great story!

I have read several stories by this author and each one elicits some type of emotion. This descriptive novella is lovely, the words gently tugged at my chest cavity, page after page. Well-done. Truly, looking forward to reading all of his upcoming releases.

Another great short story

Very different from the authors usual writing but all the same very enjoyable and extremely well written. I have the majority of this authors work and this one didn't disappoint me in anyway. Well done.

I knew this one would be a tear-jerker just from reading the blurb, and I was right. Although parts of the story were sad, it had a hopeful, happy ending. Grab a box of tissue and start reading!

Be Kind, Rewind grabbed me from the beginning. I instantly fell in love with Margaret and James. I enjoyed how they would pick at each other and act silly. A perfect relationship to me. One where you can still make each other laugh after many, many years together. The love they share is clear throughout the book. Watson did an amazing job with these two characters. Easily one of my favorite book couples.

The author always has a way of making you feel like you are in the story and this book is no different. Often, I felt like I was sitting in the same room as the main characters. Eventually tragedy strikes which was a jaw dropping moment for me. In typical Watson style he rips the rug out from under you and has you racing through the pages to find out what happens next. The ending was perfection and something I will not soon forget. You will be feeling all the emotions with this book! Watson stepped outside of his norm with this book and nailed it!

A Captivating Read

To be honest, I started this book with a reader’s block. I took advantage of the sample provided and enjoyed the tone and the imagery the author uses, so I decided I’d take a chance it would not end up in the ever growing TBR pile.

Luckily, I found myself being drawn in by the characters and the author’s easygoing style. It was so well written; it was as if I became a fly on a wall watching everything unfold.

Spellbound, I read it in one night. When I finished, I downloaded another book written by this author, Crueller, and read that the next night. To be fair, there was a sample at the back of this book and I couldn’t stop reading that either! I will read all of John Watson’s work soon. So thank you. Either this book cured my reader’s block, or it was just that good.

FANTASTIC STORY!!!
John Watson is a new author for me. While I understand that this is not his usual genre, I have to say that I really enjoyed this book. The storyline is sure to hold you in grip throughout the pages. The characters are well written and quite remarkable. Given this authors writing style, I look forward to reading more of his work.

I really love John’s writing, I think he’s one of the best horror writers out there right now, and reading this just proves the variety of work he’s capable of. This story was a really great concept with good characters, and had a lot of emotion behind it. I just wish it was a bit longer.
