Claiming Her Heart

Rate this book
Growing up in the aftermath of her mother’s murder, Silver Carter successfully buried her soft, lovable, carefree side under layers of hurt, masked by a G.I. Jane persona. She harnessed her skills to freelance as a security expert and spent her entire adult life as a social recluse, working behind a computer screen and content with her life of solitude—or so she thought.
When Carter Tate finds himself the object of a stalker’s obsession, he agrees to let his business partner’s sister, Silver, work as his personal security. Captivated by her, Carter’s filled with a powerful longing he can’t control and manages to break down the walls of protection she’s erected.

Will Silver have a chance at real happiness, or will the stalker ultimately win in the end?

Claiming Her Heart (Undeniable Love Book 1) written by S. Taylor is a family story where the main lead Silver’s mothers was murdered after which Silver decided to join security. Her brother Fox who is also professionally trained by his father along with Silver seeks his sisters help to protect his friend Carter from a stalker who has become a threat to Carter.

Along side being professionally acting as Carter’s bodyguard, Silver develops a romantic chemistry with Carter but it’s not easy for her to open her thoughts to Carter but at the same time she knows that Carter is the man she has been looking for.

The story is interesting with a tinch of romantic suspense. I look forward to the next book and I hope it's another interesting edition.

Sweet Suspense

Claiming Her Heart by S. Taylor is about freelance security analyst Alisha “Silver” Garner and businessman Carter Tate. Silver is the older sister of Carter’s best friend/ business partner. Silver and her brother Fox were professionally trained by their hitman father after their mother is murdered, it’s no surprise that Silver went into security. Silver’s brother asks her to help protect his friend Carter from his stalker while they’re working on a business merger. Here is the kicker Silver and Carter kissed the first time they met 8 years ago. Let’s just say they left a lasting impression on one another. Silver is trying to protect Carter which is a difficult task because Carter is worried about his stalker harming her instead of himself. The attraction/chemistry is already there, add in some danger we’ve got quite a story. The story is definitely more sweet than sour, while it is a suspenseful romance it’s also a contemporary romance. The secondary characters are intriguing and I hope they get their own stories. P.s. I love Silver’s German Shepard Boss.

I have a soft spot for books that feature badass female characters with occupations that are typically occupied by a male. I’m talking mechanics, bodyguards, hitmen, and in the case of Claiming Her Heart, security specialists.

Raised by their contract killer father suffering from a broken heart after the murder of their mother, Alisha “Silver” Garner and her brother James, had quite a unique upbringing. Instead of using the skills her father taught her and brother to follow in his footsteps, she utilized the abilities taught to her to start her own business as a freelance security expert, offering her services as a personal bodyguard and security detail in special situations. James however, turned from the life altogether, choosing to instead go to college for engineering and start his own tech company with his best friend and college roommate Carter Tate. The same best friend and roommate, who has been obsessed with Silver after only one encounter with her eight years ago. It's only after Carter gets the attention of a stalker, that he is re-introduced to Silver and is given a second chance to claim her heart when she is hired to personally protect him and figure out who his stalker is.

I really wanted to enjoy this book more than I did...but at 28, I have little to no desire or patience for the insta-love trope. And to be honest, that is the only reason this book isn’t getting 5 stars right now. I liked the premise, I loved the characters, and I enjoyed Silver and Carter's chemistry. But their relationship progressed entirely too fast and in a way that was wholly unrealistic and unbelievable.

After only 5 days of being in one another's presence, with barely any real conversation between the two, there were declarations of “I can’t live without him” and “she’s mine for life” and I’m just like BRUH! ya’ll don't even know how old the other is! And that's not an exaggeration...they LITERALLY didn’t know how old the other was when they were making these declarations.

And don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that two people can't meet and be utterly and madly in love with one another within a week. But there is a way that kind of whirlwind romance and love story has to be told, and that was not done with this book. I saw nothing between these two characters to make me believe they would have any reason to more than just like or have lust for one another. So the fact that there were all of these deep feelings and intense emotions, threw me off.

I was also disappointed by the very obvious villain at the conclusion of the story. I literally said out loud at one point “please don’t let this person be the culprit” because it was SO obvious and telegraphed.

Great premise, decent writing, awesome chemistry, and a fair amount of exposition considering the length of the book, but then it fell apart in the romance department for me.

A real shame

The premise of the book was interesting as we don’t often have female protagonists with a security job in romance novels. Unfortunately the execution was terrible. Silver was supposed to be this badass chick but turned into the weeping helpless woman. She was supposed to be the security personnel but Carter saved himself in the end. Also, I really disliked Carter’s lack of respect for Silver’s job. Him turning up at the club while she was on a job was unacceptable. Worse, he sat there keeping watch? Would he be ok with her coming in during one of their meetings with CEOs and just sit on the meeting? Cater’s obsession with wrapping her in bubble wrap was frustrating and it annoyed me that she didn’t put him in his place, instead she was presented as an hormonal teenager who couldn’t control herself and instead of doing her job, was keeping women away from her man. As for Carter, it just made him look insecure, not attractive.
As for the romance part of the book, I couldn’t feel it. This really wasn’t 2 people in their 30s building a relationship. They never talked of their hopes and dreams and worse just decided to have unprotected sex because they couldn’t control themselves?
Lastly, the idea that Carter, a32 year old man, would have been celibate for 8 years but didn’t try to approach her before was ludicrous.

Transformation To A Butterfly

James/Fox and Alisha/Silver went through so much at the hands of their fatger after their mother was murdered in front of them and Carter ended up being the person to help with their healing as well as getting healing himself. Alisha was a very multidimensional person and Carter was just the man to break through all her walls literally. I like that Carter fell in love with Alisha at first sight/kiss and waited for her feelings to catch up to his feelings. It was very obvious that Amanda was going to be the stalker from when he comforted her after her break up when he should've sent her home to deal with her personal problems off the clock. I still enjoyed this read and I hope the next book Carter and Alisha are having a baby and James/Fox ends up finding love.

I'd hoped for more...

Silver has been emotional guarded for roughly 20 years because of her mother's death and the change it caused in her father. She and Carter met 8 years ago and she wasn't impressed. She sees him as a womanizer and that's it. Now I like instalove here and there, but this wasn't it. I do not believe the love between these too. 8 years and they've been secretly in love with each other. Silver raised by a hitman, turns weak and breathless at just the sight of Carter and his voice...not buying it.
The stalker was obvious as soon as the character was introduced. I has hoped it was just misdirection, but nope.
Now it's not the worst book I've read, it had its good moments. I had just hoped for more...more character building and watching their relationship grow.

Really Good Book!💖

This book was fantastic!!! I love a romantic suspense story and this book did it well. Silver and Carter's chemistry was potent, intense from the very beginning. I loved that Carter didn't hold back his attraction and let Silver know his intentions of making her his upfront. They were so beautiful together! The stalker...whew, what a nut! That last scene had me nervous. Silver racing on her motorcycle was like a scene out of an action movie! This was a really great book! It was my first book by this author, but I'm definitely on the lookout for more from her.😊

This was my first time reading this author's work and enjoyed it.

Carter and Silver both intrigued me from their past to the path taken to become a couple. The threat of danger surrounding them often played a part in how they approached one another, but it was clear they had each other's back. The love they found in one another was refreshing and life giving - something they both needed and deserved.

I liked James, aka "Fox", and hope he gets a story. I need to know about those text messages he kept frowning at. 🤔

I need more

If I could give more stars to rate this book, I would. Everything about this book is amazing from start to finish. I enjoy a book where I'm caught in the storyline and when I realized I've reached the last period on the last page, I get mad because I don't want it to end. Love it.
