Anthropologist Ramsey Kaye survives a small plane crash in the forest, but is prevented from getting immediate help by injuries and bad weather. Though he’s out here looking for Bigfoot evidence, he’s still terrified when the real thing finds him taking shelter in the wrecked plane. But now he’s living in a cave with the hairy brute and discovering the big guy might not be so beastly after all. In fact, Ramsey might just be falling in love with Bigfoot.
Ramsey’s spent his life wanting to prove Bigfoot’s existence to the world, but now that he has all the evidence he could ever want, he’s not sure he wants to share. But what if people come looking for him, intent on rescuing him? Does he stay or go? Is love enough of a reason for Ramsey to abandon his modern life to remain here in the forest as Bigfoot’s mate?
Phew…I need a smoke after this one. Now I know what you’re all probably thinking…Peter Topside…why? To be honest, I don’t have a good answer. I don’t frequent erotica, but once in a while I’ll spot a story that strikes me as something of interest. And for a horror enthusiast, how could I say no to a gay paranormal bigfoot romance? Now all joking aside, it’s written very well and has a very sweet story, suprisingly with not nearly as much sex as I assumed. Don’t get me wrong, it happens and my jaw dropped a few times, but it’s nothing freaky or violent, like some of the other books I’ve read with a bigfoot destroying victims (See Lucas Milliron’s Cocksucker as a good example of something along those lines.). But the love story is very nice and read like one of those cheesy Hallmark love movies, just with a few gratuitous scenes and a bigfoot involved. The line ‘you’re my first bigfoot…and my last’ just tugged at my heartstrings. Now I’ll leave all of you with a question that will rattle your brains…if a bigfoot has a sexual encounter in the forest and nobody is there to hear it…does it make sound?
Final review (1/28/22): All I can say is… I asked. When someone tells me not to do something I often do it. Perhaps it is the middle child in me?
3 stars is super solid for a book like this. I didn’t have high expectations. I wanted some fun and I got it.
The first book I ever read featuring BigFoot was Sasquatch by Roland Smith, which sparked my interest in cryptids in Elementary school. From there that interest grew into a love of folklore. I don’t have an opinion whether BigFoot is real but the influence that the Sasquatch myth has had on modern society is quite interesting. So when I saw the title … the anthropologist descriptor I had to try it. I wasn’t naive. I knew this was erotica but I read a lot of romances including aliens and I’ve been meaning to pick up more M/M romance. Thus I tried the book.
This was pure smut , be prepared for that with this book. 100 pages doesn’t allow for romantic build up before full throttle sex.
The vibe I got from Till was very similar to the Ultimen from Susan Trombley's Iriduan Test Subjects Series. If you have no clue what I am talking about here is my review of the book that included the ultimen.
Whatever, back to Till. He was a sweetie. I loved how he had trouble coming to terms with his sexuality because in his culture he had never come across another homosexual or bisexual. Honestly, this book stumbled across some really interesting sociological/anthropological questions without meaning to. Till made me wonder - How do people come to understand their sexuality in a culture that holds no concept of that sexuality? The Bigfoot community atleast Till’s family doesn’t seem against his sexuality but had no prior perspective. Of course the exception is his ex because people are jealous.
Ramsey honestly didn’t feel that strongly for him. He was used as means for Till’s sexual awakening. I do not like how he went from 0 to 100 with his attraction to Till. He flies a Cessna which is cool. I think my update at page 36 of 100 said it best when I wrote: “I don't know why I picked this up.... ok, I do. I saw Bigfoot mate and I was intrigued. Then I saw the word "anthropologist" and I was like... I'm an anthropology major! This has nothing to do with anthropology except the random use of the words - hominin, Homo sapiens, etc + the justification of staring at Till (the Sasquatch). "I stared at his cock for...SCIENCE" I can imagine Ramsey insisting not bc I'm gay.’” I was wrong with that initial assumption that Ramsey was in the closet but I stand by the rest of that analysis.
Still fun but I’m not sure why Delaney Rain had to go and connect this smut to anthropology.
i am such a goner now. before it’s yeti. now it’s bigfoot. and hugs. and cuddle. and fur. and bigfoot eating. and bigfoot washing clothes. and everything bigfoot related. and the FREAKING HOTNESS AND TENSION IN THIS🥵 byee! I HAVE TO REREAD THISS SOMETIME😭
The Bigfoot's Mate has so much potential! I love the idea of Bigfoot finding his mate in a human man.
The man in question is Ramsey, who crashes his Cessna at Till's doorstep, killing a bunch of geese in the process. Till comes to investigate and finds Ramsey injured and barely able to walk. Till is a natural carer so he brings Ramsey to his (nicely made up) cave where Ramsey can heal.
Till is as sweet as they come, and he's not THE Bigfoot; he's A Bigfoot, meaning there is an entire clan living in a small, fictional town in Northern Idaho.
This story has great roots. Folklore associated with the Bigfoot tribe is introduced. Till has a backstoy (he had a mate who left him), as does Ramsey (rich boy, professor fascinated with Bigfoot, family with political ambitions, outed by his ex for money).
The issue is that none of these concepts are particularly well developed. This is a very short book, so everything feels barely sketched vs. fully filled in.
Fortunately, there is also some seriously hot lovin', with Ramsey bending over for Till any chance he gets (Till IS sexy, all 7 feet of him, muscular thighs, plenty of hair on his chest and other places, and a bright, curious mind).
I just wanted so much more! I felt like the story ended before it began. I'm still rounding up because Till is the best.
Okay, what kind of a person does it make me that I sort of wanted the bigfoot to be... less human-ish??
TBH, Till (the bigfoot in question) was pretty much just like a uber-hairy human. But very tall. If I'm reading a monster/alien/paranormal romance, I want more... oddities? Does that make sense?
In all fairness, this story was pretty adorable, if you are into sort of insta-lovey novellas. I really enjoy Delaney Rain's work, so I knew I'd like this one. I think I needed a longer, more fully developed story to bump my rating up to 4 stars, though.
I don’t think I have read too many - if any - romances centered around the Bigfoot/Sasquatch/Yeti being, and I was very interested in how Delaney Rain was going to write this story. This is their second book and I am firmly now a fan!
I just loved the story. Ramsey is injured and alone when his plane crashes during a flight over the northwest. He’s traveling for academic work, but he’s also secretly hoping to find some sort of concrete evidence that a Bigfoot creature actually exists. Well, he sure does get it - Bigfoot rescues him!
Turns out Bigfoot - the one who rescues him is named Til - is not too far removed from human evolution. They live in communities, they speak, and they have great understanding of human ways. I love the constant eye rolling from Til! With some TLC, Til helps Ramsey recover from his injuries.
I get that you have to set some belief aside - we’re dealing with Bigfoot here - but I just loved the home that Til made for himself, how sweet he was with Ramsey, how we find out that Ramsey had a female mate and Ramsey was the first male he had been attracted to. I really liked the emotions between the two of them, and how even thought things seemed to happen quickly, it also worked for me reading about the two of them. I would have loved to have gotten something from Til’s POV, but aside from that I completely enjoyed this story.
Overall, a very sweet, sexy story with a yummy huge Bigfoot and his caring human mate.
Another winner from this author and I can’t wait for her next book!
It's my first book about a bigfoot and his mate, super sweet Till and Ramsey and It's absolutely delightful. The circumstances surrounding the first time they met were a bit traumatizing for Ramsey but as they grew closer day by day, (given that Till doesn't talk much) were small victories. I loved how the story unfolds and the small details the author puts in to make everything interesting added to it's allure. Plus there's a plot twist at the end that made me so happy! This short read left me smiling with its charm, heat, and wondrous Hea.🥰
This is a fun read and a guilty pleasure. Really loved the concept, i think it's intriguing. Wish this was longer so we can get a fuller development on their relationship. Till is a sassy bigfoot who loves to roll his eyes. Got me interested in anthropology too. If history textbooks were like this, I'd eat them all up lol
“I love you,” Till growled “like the stars love the sky. Eternally,”
These books are wholesome, a wee bit spicy, and SO feel good. This is the 3rd one I've read from this author. I love them. They're perfect lil palate cleansers. I just know I'll be smiling by the end.
I like this author and her monster books because while they have hot scenes they are also so sweet. Till was the most sensitive lover ever and Ramsey absolutely adored him. Ramsey had been studying Bigfoots ever since being rescued by one as a child and when his plane crashes while on an expedition, he meets another Bigfoot named Till who helps heal him.
I dont know what it says about me that all the books I’ve rated 3 stars and over lately have been some kind of monster love. 😂😂
Tropes and Elements: - Physical hurt/comfort - Low-angst - Monster x human - Size difference
Wow! So this was a surprise of how much I enjoyed this novella, though considering how much I enjoy monster romances, maybe I shouldn’t be so surprised.
This was soooo cute. Man! I loved learning about Bigfoot culture and the community, I loved the way this story came together and how steamy and sweet it was. I enjoyed how we got a logical reasoning how this could all work the way it did, even if it was because Ramsey had the wealth to manage it. I loved how we get the subversion of a brute to be quite caring and kind.
The sex scenes are well written and plenty, for those monster lovers out there. I highly recommend reading this book and will be reading more by this author!
Super cute m/m paranormal romance featuring a professor of anthropology and a Bigfoot, for lack of a better term for his people. Light, no real peril, just a sweet little bubblegum read.
I LOVED this story! Delaney Rain has this amazing ability to craft a sweet amazing romance out of the most fantastical scenarios. I've been wanting more from This author since sea monster's mate, which was unbelievably amazing.
This is a hurt/comfort story, which isn't usually a favorite trope of mine (because it's kinda too easy) but this was pretty well done. Guy takes plane out into the woods to hunt for Bigfoot and dang does he ever find him!
Ok. Honesty time. This needed to be longer to me. I think if there was a bit more on page between Ramsey and Till their love would have felt more organic and believable. As it was, it felt a bit rushed. More honesty? I just genuinely wish I had more time with these characters. Till had a lot of personality from minute one and I wish we got to see more of that. More of the community would have been nice too and maybe a short history on Baker. I would have been totally satisfied if I didn't know how fantastic Rain is at world building, but since I know how excellent this author can be I felt a tiny bit cheated.
Bottom line: holy f***ing sh**balls! And yes, this story deserves MULTIPLE expletives. I was grinning like an idiot through this whole book and I thought my heart might explode by the time it made it to the end. The description of Till all heartbroken after he thought Ramsey left made me cry so hard. Delaney Rain is AMAZING. This is a subgenre of paranormal romance that rarely, if ever, turns into actual REAL romance. I genuinely cannot wait for more from this author!
THE BIGFOOT'S MATE was cute but it was probably my least favorite by this author. I liked Ramsay but I think Till (the Bigfoot) was too underdeveloped as a character. He doesn't talk much and we only know a little bit about him personally so it made it feel like Ramsay just fell in love with the idea of a Bigfoot rather than the actual person. Outside of that, this was a quick read and I liked the community of Bigfoots.
3.5 stars. A sweet cryptid romance between a college professor and a kind Bigfoot. Like many other Delaney Rain stories it's fairly brief, although it still makes space for some relationship development and Bigfoot worldbuilding. There was a tiny bit of angst but overall a cute story with a nice HEA.
This is such a good book!! Very sweet with a good dose of humor. And lots of heat too! I really love everything this author has put out and she is definitely on my Must Buy list! I highly recommend her books and I can’t wait for the next one!
So cute. Short and sweet rescue story. I liked Till and I liked that the professor wasn't going to out the bigfoot. The whole family community thing was nice. Easy sex, which was surprising. Looking forward to the next one.

Ramsey was certainly Mr Horny Scientist in this book! They almost had a grumpy sunshine thing going on, but I dunno if I could call Ramsey a full blow sunshine-y character. They were very sweet together. The explanation for how Bigfoot remained hidden was interesting and well thought out.
Spice: 4/5
Triggers: plane crash (book starts in the aftermath), survival scenario
