King Henry has need of a sword to help him recover land taken by the Prince of Wales! And he looks to the north and the border knights who have served him so well. Now that Sir Thomas is becoming too old for war Sir William is chosen to lead the knights of the Tees south to the wild lands of Gwynedd.
This time Sir William finds himself the target of enemies as yet unknown and he and his son, Dick, are placed in the greatest of danger as they seek to complete a clandestine mission for King Henry.
After the King suffers a humiliating defeat it is left to young Sir Henry Samuel to save the beleaguered English army from complete disaster but it is not with a cost and as usual it is the men of the north who pay the price for a King’s mistakes.
Chronicling the actual events of 1146 and 1147, War in the West is the tenth book in the Border Wars series.
I was born in 1950 in Lancashire and attended a boy’s grammar school. After qualifying as an English and Drama teacher in 1972, I worked in the North East of England for the next 35 years. During that time I did write, mainly plays, pantos and musicals for the students at the three schools in which I worked.
When I stopped teaching I set up my own consultancy firm and worked as an adviser in schools and colleges in the North East of England. The new Conservative Government ended that avenue of work and in 2010 I found that I had time on my hands; having started work at the age of 15 I found the lack of work not to my liking and used the time to research the Roman invasion of Britain and begin to create a novel. The result was The Sword of Cartimandua.
My decision to begin writing was one of the best I have ever taken.
I have read every book you have wrote and always wait with excitement for the next!! But I was disappointed with this latest I thought it was a mish mash with a poor storyline and just a quick knock up to produce a quick book! You can do better and it was a poor effort Big disappointment!!!!!!!!!😬
Loved the book. Didn’t want to put it down. Just had to see where the story took me, and there were even parts where I became emotional. You get invested in the characters and their stories. History is brought to life. It still surprises me that I enjoy a historical novel when my favourite books are Jack Reacher novels but I do. Perhaps it’s the pace. Perhaps it’s the action. Perhaps it’s the brave and loyal characters. Whatever it is, it keeps me coming back for more. Good job Griff Hosker is as prolific as he is!
Once again Griff delivers a masterful work that reads and feels so real it wraps the reader up in the story. You feel the pain, the struggle, and as a veteran I can place myself in the fights blow for blow. I can't get enough of this master storytellers work!!!
Really enjoyed the latest episode of the extended Stockton family. Cliche but real page turners. You feel as if you know the family and root for them to win whatever the cost. A rip roaring saga, throughly recommended.
