I've had this sickness all my life. Now, to survive, I must fight off more than a disease. Silver--the son of Prince Poison--has turned his attention on me... And that is a death sentence.
CARAVAL MEETS GODS AND MONSTERS. A dark, gritty romance with a slow-burn, set in an atmospheric fantasy world.
Even in the Gods' Capital, dreamers are fools ...
Keela is content to carry on with her daydreams of escaping her dull life, until an aniel--a child of a God--wanders onto her path, and he doesn't seem interested in leaving any time soon. She is mortal, he is ancient and all-powerful. How can she order him away?
For a mortal to be noticed by an aniel is like being noticed by a God. It is sweet for a heartbeat, but at its core, it is dark poison, deception and rot.
Keela knows better than to humour an aniel, because she knows how all mortal-aniel stories end--
They always end with the mortal's death.
Keela has her own sickness to fight off every day. She doesn't need Silver, the aniel, as an added threat to face. But when an aniel has its hooks in you, it's nearly impossible to escape.
A dark fantasy mini-series set in Quinn Blackbird’s GODS AND MONSTERS world. You do not have to read Gods and Monsters before reading Gods and Daemons. See inside for content warnings. Paperbacks available soon on the coming-in-August box-set page.
QUINN BLACKBIRD is a wanderer, a caffeine addict, a concern to her teachers & a bit of a dork. You can find Quinn buying gym equipment she never uses or being dragged out of the writing cave by pesky friends. Mention "margarita" and she'll come ah-runnin.
QB's goal is to live on a farm with rescue animals and write!
Now beware!! Blackbird writes about everything she loathes. This makes for books that are darker, grittier, anti-heroes, messed-up characters, and dark worlds. It's not a guarantee you'll find redemption in her pages. Because, as Gaslight Her warns, 'sometimes, the villains win.'

Gods and Daemons is Quinn Blackbird's new NA fantasy mini series which is set in the same world as Gods and Monsters series which I really loved. You don't need to read that series in order to read this one. It follows new set of characters. I really loved the mc Keela who's suffering from a unknown illnesss which is slowly killing her. She lives with her father and sister who treats Keela like she's a burden and doesn't care for her. The only person who loves her is her bedridden mother who's also suffering from the same illness. Before she knocks the death's door, Keela wants to have a semi happy married life despite her father and sister's wishes. Her life takes a surprising turn when her path crosses with the mysterious aniel named Silver who takes a interest on her. Being noticed by an aniel is asking for a trouble which always ends with the mortal's death.
This was really a great start to a new series. I wish it wasn't so short. I loved both the main characters who're complex and flawed. I quite enjoyed the strange relationship between them and I can't wait for more.
This is a mini series set into the world of the authors other books. At first I was skeptical because usually when authors say you don’t need to read the other books to understand what’s happening- it’s a lie. This wasn’t the case with this book. The world and levels of gods and daemons was explained well and I didn’t feel like I was missing any information.
I kind of really wish this wasn’t a mini series, I was hooked pretty quickly and enjoyed the story so much! I liked the characters and the world and that the FMC wasn’t the average strong female lead. I’m very excited for the next book!
*i did receive an arc from Booksprout in exchange for a review*
3 3/4 stars. This story pulled me in quickly. Though set in the world from another series, it isn't necessary to read it, enough is explained without an info dump to get what is going on. Keela is an interesting character because she isn't strong female lead in so many urban fantasies. In fact, she is very ill. But she isn't exactly the perfect martyr with the heart of gold and suffering in silence (but that doesn't mean she's whiny).
Most of this novel is set up with getting to know some of the characters. I wish there was a little bit more action. But I'm definitely hooked.
This book really made me think of Caraval (which I one of my favorites) ... or maybe I thought of it because of the description :) Anyway, I really like the setting and the atmosphere I like the characters and the plot and it was easy to read
I did find it a bit predictable and I feel like barely something happened For me it could have been 400 pages ,maybe the sequel already in the first one, and it would have been a 5 star I’m also waiting for the romance to start but I have some hopes for it, If you like Donatella and Jacks from Caraval you might like this as well

MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD FOR THE REST OF THE SERIES
From 4 stars to 2.
I liked the premise of the series. It was a mash up of some of my top favorite tropes: enemies-lovers sprinkled with terminal illness on top. A brew that I loved ever since I watched A Walk to Remember. All that delicious angst is so yum. Needless to say, the first book hooked me up so badly. It was all I wanted and more. The heroine was level-headed, resourceful, did not let her lust muddle her common sense. The H was deliciously mysterious, broody, and just the right amount of obssessed and besotted(or so I thought).
Then I read the rest of the books.
Oh boy. Where should I start?
All that trope-tastic goodness took a nosedive into a cesspool of my worst pet peeves: The H in love with the OW and a doormat heroine.
The H apparently was using the heroine all along to save his one true love. (UGGHHHH WHYYY) The heroine reminded him of her, since his love was also sick. It does not even end here. The H cemented his betrayal and legit traded the heroine to the villain of the series in order to get his lover back. Bear in mind that he pretended to be saving her from him the whole time. If this didn't annoy so far, wait until you see how tiresome and boring he found the heroine. I got second hand embarrassment reading all the eye-rolls, long suffering sighs and overall apathetic attitude he displayed towards her.
The annoying part is not his reaction per se, but that she *was* indeed useless and pathetic. His reaction was sadly justifiable. The level-headed heroine turned into a damsel in distress that depended on him for everything. Yes, her reactions make sense with her sheltered background, but if you want to make her the winner in a love-triangle you'd better equip her with qualities that would ensnare the heart of sn immortal who has lived and seen through millennias of foolish humans doing foolish and boring things. Her personality drove the fact that when he acted all lovey-dovey (during one of his taciturn moods) he did it because 1) she reminded him of his true love. 2) manipulate her feelings so he can use her later on as a means to an end.
Her clingingness towards him even after she discovered his betrayal was nothing short of humiliating. She freaking begged him to choose her and not her rival. (WHY WHY WHY) I genuinely cannot see why would he fall in love her. The author certainly did not show it. It's just a case of lust at best. I'm not sure how the author is planning to rescue their relationship later on(two books left), but there's no saving this romance for me. I might still pick the books because the plot still interests me and I'd like to see how the author would handle this mess.

Blurb: Taken by a mysterious (and terminal) disease, Keela only wants one thing out of life: To have a gentleman love her just enough to whisk her away from her moody home and family, and into a comfortable marriage where she will be cared for.
But even in the Gods' Capital, dreamers are fools ...
Keela is content to carry on with her daydreams, until an aniel--a child of a God--wanders onto her path, and he doesn't seem interested in leaving any time soon. She is mortal. How can she order an ancient and wicked aniel away from her? And...besides, what could be the harm in allowing the aniel to purchase her some pretty dresses before he loses all interest in her?
But for a mortal to be noticed by an aniel is like being noticed by a God. It is sweet for a heartbeat, loving even. But at its core, it is dark poison and deception and rot.

They always end with the mortal's death.

This book is SO fun. I read (and loved) Gods and Monsters but I am willing to bet that i am going to enjoy this series even more. Among Gods is set in the same world as Gods and Monsters (although you don't need to have read Gods and Monsters to enjoy it) and follows Keela, a chronically (and terminally) ill young woman, who wishes nothing more than to live out her remaining days in a semi-happy marriage, in order to escape her unloving sister and father. There are definitely some Cinderella vibes, however this story is much, much darker. Keela herself, seems to be a relatively good person, but one who is willing to hurt others if it will help her achieve her goals. Despite her moral shortcomings, I still find myself rooting for her. As in Gods and Monsters, there is mention of the supernatural, however this time there is a stronger focus on aniels and daemons, rather than gods. I was also pleasantly surprised by the ending, since just when I thought I had everything figured out, the entire story was turned on it's head. I am not one to prioritize reading (or really anything) over sleep, but it is way past my bedtime and I couldn't put this book down. All in all, a great read, and I can't wait to read the rest of the series!
Gods and Daemons Collection 1: Books 1-3 (A Dark Paranormal Romance) by Quinn Blackbird is an amazing box set. I loved reading this box set very much cause it has paranormal romance and fantasy in it. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about fantasy, dark and paranormal romance.

very intriguing and unique! Very unique plot!!! The twists and turns i didn’t see coming! i cant wait to read the rest of the series!!! gorgeous cover and boxset!!!
This may be the first episode of a slowly simmering fantasy, but it sure pulled me in. A combination of winning narration and strange, dark twists sets up an uneasy mood that'll have your nerves jangling even before you know what's coming.
We follow Keela, a girl with a slow wasting illness and an uncaring family. Just when things are looking bleak for her, she finds herself in the unenviable position of being the object of an dangerous person's fascination. For Silver is an aniel, a powerful and tricksy servant of the Gods who preside over her world, and no mortal is safe when they decide to play. And then come the rumours of darker things: the Daemons, reapers of souls and assassins of the Gods, are coming, and no one knows why.
If you've read Gods and Monsters Box Set 1 then you've got a head start on the setting, but if not, never fear. All the detail you need is there. For in this story we aren't cavorting with the twisted Gods of the realm, but their servants: aniels and Daemons. Don't be fooled though, no one and nothing in this world can be split up into good and evil. Just variations of malevolence and indifference.
It's not just the mythology of the world, but the characters too. Keela isn't a swooning heroine or butt-kicking badass. She even says she's a coward, though she seems to have plenty of inner strength when it counts. Her family are downright horrible, so you can't blame her. The handsome Silver is inscrutable, his motivations muddied by his dark nature.
I love how we delve into the winding streets of the Capital. I love the description and atmosphere and general uneasiness Keela's tone of voice puts across. There's plenty of mystery woven into this first episode, and by the end it really is strange, tense stuff. Being episodic, it ends on a cliffhanger, one that leaves you desperate to know more.
-I received a free ARC of this e-book from the author. This does not influence my review-
As soon as I saw the heroine's name I bought it. What was odder was the boy friend's name: the same as my father's. It was otherworldly; it was kismet. Thank goodness the story matched my interest!
First, Keela inherited an illness at birth in a society that worships Gods who are known to maim, give pestilence, poison, and burn humans. Nonetheless, the humans have no sympathy for those who are affected, and Keela was born in a family that worships Prince Poison. My suspicion is that her mother was poisoned when she was born, but who knows?
I absolutely adore scrappy, disadvantaged MCs who overcome trials, and Keela does not let the loathing, epithets, and outright cursing deter her from living. I just wish she treated her own servants and sole friend that way, too. Mikhael is a sympathetic wanna-be boyfriend who overlooks her illness yet she uses him. She ignores her servant most of the time and feels upset that her servants don't go the extra mile for her...what gives? But I loved her anyway.
The world-building is limited to the Capital where Keela lives, and that is fine. There are hints of pirates, and other isles. It seems like a colonial puritan ethic but with numerous deadly Gods.
I also loved how Silver, the Aniel, was described. He was the perfect fairy Godmother...oh, yes, I got the distinct vibe that this is a Cinderella remake, and I adore that. Keela attends the Ball in her finest: a hand-me-down corseted, ragged, black gown. How celebratory! Not!
Although there was no real action, the world-building, characters, and lively repertoire kept me entertained, and it seems a short prequel to the main story. The Daemons arrived! Long live the series!
I have...thoughts on this. I know the author released these as a sort of rapid-fire series on KU and each book is novella length. It took until about 60% into the first book--which had to be purchased--until something happened. And I'm still very unsure of what exactly happened, as the author, likely purposefully, chose to not go into any real detail about it. The overabundance of descriptions that did nothing for the plot became really hard to read and just felt dull. I'm also super over the descriptions of people's pallor and how pale they all are. Not to mention the illness that plagues the MC, which was mentioned literally constantly.
I am just interested enough to try to read the second book. Mainly to see if my plot predictions are correct. If it goes down like I think it will, it'll be an instant DNF from me. I feel like I can see the plot at this point from a mile away and I'm hoping that I'm wrong and I'll be surprised. The premise of these books is what drew me in and I'm really hoping that the plot actually advances in the next book, instead of more useless descriptions, comparisons of people's pallor to a marble statue, and near-constant reminds the MC's illness.
Before I begin my review for Among Gods (Gods and Daemons book 1) by Quinn Blackbird, I would personally like to thank the author, the publishers and Booksprout for the opportunity to read this ARC and I have reviewed it honestly.
Welcome back to Blackbird's realm of wicked Gods and rigid hierarchy with an all new sickly yet lovable protagonist, devious man candy and a tantalising tale. Among Gods is a powerful introduction to an exciting new novella series. Though set in the same world as Blackbird's Gods and Monsters, this is a standalone series.
Among Gods features, but is not limited to, the following themes: ○ Gods ○ Book boyfriends ○ Sickly protagonist ○ Favouritism ○ NA fantasy
My overall rating for Among Gods is...
4.5 stars!
This book was such an interesting series starter with the pitying and sickly protagonist, Cinderella step-sister vibes and the mysterious and gorgeous Silver. Besides wanting to get a visualisation on Silver and his bed talents, the underlying story and unexpected daemon visitors has me craving me. Another epic tale from this word-goddess author!
Keela is a human that lives among the Gods and the Aniels in the Gods city. But she suffers from an illness that she has had since birth. She comes to the attention of a well known and dangerous Aniel as well as the Daemons arriving in the city. Keela's life is turned upside down and she is left wondering if she will ever have a normal life and can she fight for a normal life. This is the first book in the Gods and Daemons series and it is a spin off series from The Gods and Monsters series. I has hooked from the very beginning. I love how Keela grows through the book, she shows she can be strong and decides to fight for herself despite her illness. And there is just something about the Aniel Silver that you can't help but like and your left wanting to know more about him. Plus there's the Daemons! So much happens in this first book but it flows so well, I didn't get lost or confused from the storyline at all and I was left wanting to read the next book in the series . Cant wait for book 2.
Blonde heroine, automatic deduction. Slut shaming the sister for having sex before marriage, not in my generation… deduction. I get that there needs to be world building, but the world building never stopped. Just when you thought the writer would get to the romance or just simple interaction between the main character, she pulls a… let me tell you about… the demons… let me tell you about mates… let me tell you about the wild woods… then she forgot that she already told you about the demons so she tells you about the demons again… but wait… did you know about the first ones? Well let me tell you about them. Just to be clear we are past the 50% mark of the book. Oh you came here for a dark romance, well first let me tell you about the three witches… do you know about the one, let me tell you about the one… I see you are still holding on, hoping for a good dark romance, well first let me tell you about Xena… but wait do you know about blood bonds, well friend let me tell you about that as well. This book is exhausting.
This is a spin off from her Gods & Monsters series. You don't need to have read them however, to understand this book. It is a look at aniels, which are basically angels and daemons, which are daemons. So far the world building is great. Keela is a rich girl being treated like a poor girl, all because she is ill. Obviously, that would cause a lot of envy and jealousy not only of the other girls her age, but everyone who was healthy. Keela has very dark thoughts, as anyone in her situation would. She dreams of a man to marry her who will take care of her & keep her safe. She catches the eye of an aniel, not something anyone wants to do, who develops a fondness for her. What happens next when daemons invade the Capitol? Will they take an interest in the ill girl? Looking forward to the next book.
I stepped into this read blind and it wasn’t until I looked the author up on good reads that I discovered this is part of a larger world! Quinn does such a wonderful job of building the world around me without making me feel like I just read a boring history report on it. The main characters especially awful life IS a bit cliche and at times feels forced, but over all I was buying it and I felt sympathy for suffering a chronic disorder that no one can diagnose, as I’m sure a lot of other people would. I also found I respected the directness of her dreams for the future. This book was a hit for me. Maybe not a life changing experience, but I’m hanging out for book 2 and can’t wait to see how this world continues to draw me in.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This book follows Kella, a girl who is very sick and whose family hates it. Kella lives in the God's city where monsters roam which is hard enough when you arentdying from a mysterious illness. All Kella wants from life is to get married and live a normal life but her life takes a turn when an ancient aniel plucks her from the masses and gives her special favor. Then to top it all of Daemons come to town and she learns what it truly takes to survive in a city of monsters.
This book is a quick read that was entertaining and the world that Quinn Blackbird created did not disappoint. Sometimes with books this short there is a lack of world building or character development and this is not the case with Among Gods. I cant wait to get my hands on the next book in this series.

Set in the same setting as the gods and monster's sets, we get another exciting story that you'll love. We meet Keela, a young girl who suffers from a terrible and life threatening illness. Having the sickness, Keela is seen as a thorn in society and even within her own family. We get to see her struggles and her determination to live her life to the fullest. We get to meet an aniel, silver who takes an interest. Their story is just beginning and the mystery of the story will have you reading until you finish. And just when you think you know what's going to happen, Quinn throws us a curve ball! I need more! Quinn has a unique ability to create a world so real and enchanting that you'll love the slow build of the story and the adventure it takes you on. Beautiful story to get lost in!
This book is a spin-off of the author's other books (Gods and Monsters) and it is not necessary to read the other books prior to this one. The world was described in the beginning through a couple different chapters, which is why it is unnecessary to read the other books first. From the first chapter I was pulled into Keela's world: a young woman with a deadly disease, that angsty "untouchable" man with a complex history and life. I can't wait to read the next few books in this mini-series. I need to know what happens next!

I was not sure if I can follow the story since I had no idea about this universe of Gods, monsters and daemons. I was really surprised that I could easily follow the story and understand all the "politics". I thought the MC, Keela, was a bit whiny in the begining, but this is far from the truth. You can see a strength and determination under her fragile facade. This is a small novella and it makes you wanting more. I cannot wait to read the rest of the books and maybe visit the previous series, Gods and Monsters.

Part 1 steps right back into the world of Prince Poison and I'm pretty ready to be there again. Keela is in a pretty tough spot with a sick mother and her own poor health. She's got #goals, though, and this one is going to feel very Cinderella - wicked mean step-mother/step-sister vibes, a fairy godmother who gets her to the ball...but the comparisons end there. There is no handsome prince waiting for the clock to strike midnight and her fairy godmother is suspiciously benevolent. Slow burn for sure.
When I read this book I was that interested in the beginning but I gave it a chance. It was a bit confusing at the start but the more I read the more the pieces fell together. I wish the book had been a bit more exciting an secretive. It was very predictable, I was able to predict most of the plot from blatant foreshadowing. The main character was okay, her personality was kind of everywhere, I wish it had been a bit more interesting. Overall not a bad read but it could have been sculpted more.
I enjoyed reading this book. I liked that it gave background on the world throughout the book since this is the first book I read from this author. Keela has had a hard upbringing with her sickness. She is looked down upon as being less by those around her including her family. She is outspoken but holds her tongue to avoid the consequences. I want to keep reading the series to see what happens to Keela and if her true self finally comes out.
Among Gods by Quinn Blackbird is a wonderful story that I have read. This is book number one in this wonderful start to a brand new series that I am so hooked on . I can not wait to read the rest of this wonderful series . I highly recommend this wonderful series to everyone who loves reading about dark erotica, dark and paranormal romance.
