Talk about well written this one is. Its a great second chance romance with secrets. She makes Eva Martin and Jake Albright come alive in the way she writes the story. There is alot of suspense with a mystery problem that escalates as the story progresses. Who is behind it will surprise you. Its full of surprises good and bad. I found myself turning the pages to see what is happening is next. I enjoyed how things happened between Eva and Jake it was gradually making it more interesting. It was fun to read. I look forward to more of her books. J

Eva Martin has her hands full trying to keep her ranch going and caring for her 9-year-old son. When cows begin turning up dead with their throats slit and hearts removed, she isn't sure why this is happening or who it is doing and also leaving nasty notes in her mail box. But she is certain that the local sheriff isn't thrilled to help her. When Jake Albright comes home from Italy for his father's funeral, Jake offers to help her. After all, they were high school sweethearts.

Eva reluctantly agrees while keeping secret that Jake is the father of her son, something she's kept from everyone, even going so far as to change the date of the boy's birth back 3 months--one detail of which I found unlikely to occur without at least someone noticing. After all, a month-old doesn't act the same as a four-month-old. Years later, that would be less noticeable, but still...

Jake's involvement also encourages the sheriff, but when Eva is attacked not once, but twice and Jake finally arrives in time to grab the assaulter, he is as shocked at who the perpetrator is as she is. With family so important to him, how is this going to affect what he wants with Eva? Especially when she is forced to reveal his parenthood? And what will her son think of this new information?

This was a great book, with some intense action, bite your nails suspense, and a second chance romance. Eva Martin is a single mother, and ranch owner. Needless to say, she has her hands full. Bad things start happing at her ranch. Eva is a target, and she doesn’t know why. On top of everything else, Jake Albright is back in town. He was the love of her life before she broke up with him, and he moved to Italy. Now that he is back in town you can tell he never quit loving Eva. He wants to catch the person who is coming after Eva. The end was a real shock. Throughout the book I had several people I thought could have been behind it all. I was wrong. I love it when I’m totally wrong, and the author leaves me stunned. I will read more books by this talented author.

This is a fast paced book. I've picked up quite a few by this author, and I always love them. She writes likeable, relatable characters, and has decent plots.
