A Wallflower's Wish #1

A Duke for Miss Daisy

Rate this book
Daisy's met the duke of her dreams...or is he her worst nightmare?

Daisy is a wallflower. Or at least, she was. But this season, her prospects are brighter and, much to her mother's delight, she may just make a match. When the duke she once adored from a distance arrives at the house party she's attending with her friends, she knows for certain her luck has changed.

Until she meets him.

Rude, grim, and not at all the knight in shining armor she believed him to be as a child, the now-widowed Duke of Dolan treats her boorishly bad. This isn't the love at first sight she'd been dreaming of. In fact, it's a whole lot like disdain.

If it were not for the way he held her in his arms, she might just be fooled into thinking he's not the man for her at all.

Luckily for him, his kisses speak louder than his growls.

It was a very sweet book. I am very skeptical when love happens so quickly after knowing each other for the long amount of time of one entire day! 😂 but well, what can I say? I didn't realize that it was a short story, so it was a very sweet and fast read.

I wanted to love this but it was barely a 2 star. A few of my favorite tropes combined, enemies to lovers, unrequited love, & wallflower heroine, unfortunately the instalove killed it for me.

Daisy has loved Griff from afar since she was a young girl but upon reacquaintance Daisy sees the Duke of Dolan was not what she had dreamt. After his wife's death Griff is intent on finding a bride but not love. Misunderstanding Daisy's clumsy nature as an attempt to snare him he quickly dismisses her. He soon realizes Daisy is genuine and would make an excellent bride but he can not offer her the love that she wants from marriage.

The romance and love was not believable. I did like that his past marriage did not totally over shadow the book how ever he did say this about his wife, "I never knew her well enough to feel something as meaningful as love.” This is after falling in love with the heroine in 3 days and proposing twice in that time. *eyeroll*

This was a first time read for me by Maddie Dallen, a new author to this reader. I wished I could love this more but it was just an okay novella for me. There was too much angst between the H/h for me and as they were childhood friends that went their separate ways and then meet and instantly fall in loved in this very short story was a bit. I actually liked the wallflower group and how they gave themselves flower names with the exception of the heroine. For a short read...okay and thus the

Randomly found on GR and it was free on Kindle - so I got it. It turned out to be a short, sweet novella in which a widower Duke finds love with a wallflower. Pretty standard historical romance but helped by the fact that I found our heroine's habit of hitting the hero accidently with a door, endearing.

The novella is rushed, probably due to length but there is a little too much of "he / she can't love me" than actually talking to each other. The characters go from not-knowing-they-are-in-love to being in "unrequited" love so quickly that it felt silly. A little less rushing away and spending more time with each other would have made this a more successful romance and better use to the length.

Still, being a novella this is a cute few hours. Would recommend for KU members are looking for something quick which is on the sweet side.

A fun, charming, sweet romance that just made me smile!!

Daisy just knew her third season would find her with the man of her dreams. She could not believe it when he showed up at the house party! She had known Griff when she was younger. But not this Griff... not the nice boy she had known.

Griff was looking for a wife, but not one to love. Unfortunately he was attracted to Daisy but would not fall into the same unhappiness he had before.

So good and looking forward to the rest of the series.

2.75 stars Daisy and Griff. Cute. Not of a fan of this story where the heroine has had a crush on the hero as a kid. My favorite part was the wallflowers picking out their wallflower name.

(4.5 stars) - "Daisies that bring you joy...

... are better than roses that bring you sorrow."      ~Matshona Dhliwayo

(I love how this story fits that sweet quote so perfectly - Griff had a rose that brought him sorrow, but at last finds his Daisy!)

I was looking for something that wasn't overly deep or serious after having just read a rather depressing book, and this was just right. The beautiful yet playful cover promises fun, & the story delivers!

Daisy & the formidable duke each have their own version of gracelessness & hurt. They keep second guessing the other incorrectly, & their awkward efforts to communicate keep getting interrupted. It's one of those things that would be frustrating if it was dragged out, but it's just right to keep it entertaining instead.

The friends of the two main characters are worked into the story in a natural, fun way that gives you a chance to like them & makes you eager to read their stories next!

*Clean romance level: very sweet kisses, nothing graphic

I actually think Maggie Dallen may not be for me, as the issues I had with this book are the same as with previous works I've read. The issues are also linked to what keeps pulling me back in, which is length.

Essentially most of her books are what I would call novellas. They're short and sweet which makes them easy to blaze through. But often I end of feeling very dissatisfied because then everything feels rushed and convenient.

With this, I enjoyed it very much for the first few chapters then everything kicked into high gear and lost me. The romance felt very unearned (the very definition of insta-love) and the love interest wasn't entirely likeable.

I know that I'll keep reading books from Dallen though, I just know it, because they're so quick to read, there's less risk involved with not enjoying them, because it doesn't take me hundreds of pages to get to that conclusion.

The first in a new series & a lovely read that I read in one sitting. It made me smile practically all the way through. Griff is the disillusioned Duke who has no interest in love, Daisy is the accident prone, young woman who wants a love match, together they are perfect but assumptions, misunderstandings all get in the way of their burgeoning romance. Another well written fun, entertaining read which I thoroughly enjoyed & now I’m looking forward to Marigold & Lilys’ stories

Every once in a while, along comes a sweet Regency Romance that has all the quiet grace of a bygone era but is thankfully filled with fire and gumption courtesy an adept contemporary writer.

The *Wallflower's Wish Book* series revolves around three close friends (Daisy, Lily and Marigold) who rather than primping and preening, prefer to be wallflowers observing the antics of a judgemental society from a distance. This book takes us along with Daisy as she hopes to find love with someone who she has admired for a long, long time.

I adore alternating POVs in a romantic story and while Daisy is kind, straightforward and likeable, we get a glimpse into the mindset of the perpetually glowering Duke of Dolan too. The "will they-won't they-ofcourse they will" game of mental tennis is rather enjoyable as the dialogues are witty and shorn of unnecessary drama. Add to that, the able support of the fellow wallflowers, be it shy Marigold or fiery Lily and you come away with a book that encompasses friendship and love rather nicely.

Sweet, progressive and a quick read.

This was a lighthearted read that I enjoyed very much. Daisy with her two wallflower friends, Mary and Laura spend a good deal of time together at balls and parties. The three friends are all very different but definitely help each other when they can. Daisy’s mother is determined that she will make a good match this season but Daisy wants to marry for love. Griff, Duke of Dolan is looking for a bride but he isn’t looking for love, given his past experience. His good friend is helping him. Griff and Daisy has known each other in their youth but hadn’t seen each other for some years. Their first meeting didn’t go down well. There are a number of misunderstandings before a happy ending is achieved. I’m looking forward to reading about the other two friends. This is a quick read that you can finish in an evening, especially if you need an uplift. I received a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Short, Sweet, and Scintillating ***4 1/2 stars***

I really enjoyed this story. It's fairly short at just around 150 pages, and made for a quick, entertaining read. I finished it in one afternoon. As you might expect with a book this short, the romance moves at a super quick pace... a bit to quick if I were being completely honest. So, if you're looking for a compelling romance this might not be the book for you. However, if you're in the mood for a lighthearted, sweet romance, this just might hit the spot. FYI this is a nice, squeaky clean romance... just a couple kisses and no crude language. I found the story thoroughly entertaining and would recommend it as a worthwhile read. BTW this author (there's actually two of them isn't there?) Anyway, she used titles and terms of address correctly!!!! 😁😁😁 That shouldn't be a big deal I know, but sadly so many authors get it wrong! 😕😕😕

This was a very lovely book. It's short (less than 200 pages), sweet (and may I add; mild aka no bedroom scenes), but interesting. It kept me on edge, wanting to know what happened next, what's next?

Daisy had been infatuated with the Duke since she was a teenager. She'd been pinning for him from afar (they were estate neighbors). However, her first encounter with him was so far from he expectation. Turned out the Duke was not only rude, but condescending and was not the least bit interested in talking to her. Having her hope utterly crushed, Daisy sought to forget about the Duke. But alas, the Duke was concealing his attraction to Daisy. She just looked so much like his dead wife - beautiful, pretentious, who acted like a damsel in distress in order to win a man's heart (although in Daisy's case, she truly was a clumsy person).

I loved the characters' interactions and their banters. It was a slow burn. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

This story was adorable. I really enjoyed following the perspectives of Daisy and Griff. The fact that so much misunderstanding between the two occurred within the ~150 pages was quite amazing. I know people have issues with insta-love, but I actually enjoyed this one.

This was such a sweet and cute story!
I loved the main characters, and their romance was so sweet. Daisy and Griff were such a sweet match, and every interaction of theirs had me smiling.
Was the story a bit cliche and unrealistic? Yes. Did I love it anyway? Yes!
Really enjoyed the secondary characters as well, and can't wait to read Lily and Marigold's stories!

A bit juvenile and … didn’t feel the romance nor really care for the duke. Had his inner monologue not been I would’ve thought he’s playing with daisy.

I read a lot while away for vacation and am now catching up.

This was a particularly sweet romance and perfect for a break. I loved how a very feminine heroine stood up for herself and the hero came to love her for herself. No one else would do.

Enjoy!

3.5 quick read and very cute. My biggest issue with this book is that the main characters never communicate and that is where the irritation comes in, but I guess that does create drama.

Very sweet

I liked the heroine very much and I am glad she got her duke. This was so romantic and there were no love scenes needed. They just talked to each other and they were soul mates. He was grumpy and she teased him about it. I liked that. . very clean romance and quite engaging. I felt their chemistry!

Sweet story - 4 1/2 stars

I really enjoyed this story of reconnection. An adoration from childhood meets reality of life. Both the Duke and Daisy have to struggle through misconceptions and unrealistic expectations as both are forced to acknowledge their feelings and each other. The progression through the story brought frowns and chuckles as friends on both sides do their best to help and/or run interference. I look forward to reading the rest of the series

This is the first in the series of three young wallflowers. It is a sweet quick read, perfect for relaxing and taking your mind off the world's worries. As usual, the characters were well written and very likable. I enjoyed the way the next book was set up throughout this one and will be looking forward to reading the next 2 books. There was no sex in this book but lots of kisses. It is a happy book to read.

This book was so short, then why try to cram so many things?

Daisy trips over duke “oh, I’m sorry Your Gra-”
Duke”MY WIFE IS DEAD”
Daisy “Oh, I’m sorry”
Duke “YOU’RE JUST LIKE MY EX WIFE PRETENDING SO I FALL IN LOVE WITH YOU”
Daisy “…I just tripped”

Figures out she’s not molding her whole personality for him
Duke “Daisy what do you want in a marriage?”
Daisy “Love”
Duke “And that’s all you care about? Well I don’t believe in love. Anyway will you marry me?”
Daisy “No?”

Duke “HOW DARE SHE. SHE REJECTED ME BECAUSE I AM A BORING SHE IS JUST LIKE MY EX WIFE”
Friend “Hey here’s the list of ladies I think would be a good match”
Duke “Fuck your list”
Friend “…ok”
Duke “I AM IN LOVE WITH DAISY NOW.”
