In a twist of fate, Carol is bitten by a lupus garous. Now she must also come to terms with the fact that she’s a werewolf.
Because of her premonitions, Carol fights the urge to transform into a werewolf. In her visions she’s seen where the werewolves aren’t able to shift back to their human form.
Darien Silver, pack leader of the red werewolves in Silver City, is getting fed up with Carol’s refusal to accept her new werewolf condition. He doesn’t know about her premonitions. He’s decided Carol needs a mate to keep her in line and werewolves mate for life.
Meanwhile, P.I. Ryan McKinley comes snooping around because he can’t get Carol out of his thoughts. Ryan attributes it to Carol helping him with a case using her psychic ability, which he finds hard to believe. This is ironic since Ryan is the pack leader of the gray werewolves in Green Valley.
A kidnapping attempt is made for Carol. Darien suspects it was by relatives of the man who turned Carol and was then killed. Since Ryan is already around, Darien agrees for him to be her body guard. That’s when things really begin to heat up. To add to the mix, the group soon learns there really is a virus affecting the werewolves.
While trying to find a cure, Carol and Ryan fight their attraction to one another. They are strong individuals, but find that they are unstoppable as a team.
This is the sixth installment in the Heart of the Wolf series. Though references are made to prior events and people, this is a stand alone book. While the main characters will fascinate you, the secondary characters all have their own blend of charm as well.
Author Terry Spear has demonstrated once again that she can have you believing in the unbelievable. Her characters draw you in and the fast pace action keeps you enthralled until the end. Along the way she sprinkles in just enough humor with the suspense, while taking your breath away with the romance.

This was a fairly good book. I generally like this series. I did miss one and it seems to have been the one that involved most of the characters in this one. Still it wasn't too difficult to follow along.
Why wasn't this one rated higher? I think mostly because the wolf fever situation didn't seem as dire as it should have. It wasn't until more than half way through the book that the first wolf got stuck in wolf form. We knew it was going to happen since the heroine had visions about it. So we were just waiting around for it to happen. The bad guys were pretty inept. When the evil genius doctor finally got page time, the hero immediately killed him. So we never figured out why he had created the virus or where he was coming from.
Also the hero, who was alpha of a neighboring wolf pack, didn't seem as alpha as he could have been. Maybe I like my alpha werewolves just a bit more snapping and snarling and aggressive. It took him 5 months to figure out that he wanted her for his mate. If they're too human seeming, what's the point in reading werewolf love stories?
The heroine had spent the 5 months since she had been infected as a werewolf fighting off the change to a wolf by using her precognitive visions to distract herself. Wolf Fever is the latest in Terry Spear's werewolf series. I really enjoy this series because the author has a down to earth writing style that makes her characters feel very real and believable. I found the heroine fiery and fun to read and the hero stubborn and sexy.
Carol's history has been troubled. When she was a child she had a freak accident and now she sometimes sees glimpses of the future. Although she has been ostracized, humiliated and called crazy, she still feels she must try to help the people in her visions from danger. The latest incident to help someone resulted in her being bitten by a werewolf and now she is the newest member of the red werewolf pack. But because turned werewolves (instead of born werewolves) are supposed to have poor mastery of their 'animal side' and because female werewolves are rare the alpha of the pack has been pressuring Carol to find a mate within his pack to guide and 'control her. But Carol finds she is not interested in the men of the red pack with the exception of the pack leader’s brothers who don't seem to be interested in her! The rest of the men are pushovers and Carol finds she wants someone as strong as she is. She unexpectedly finds herself drawn to the gray werewolf alpha named Ryan. But Ryan is skeptical of her powers. And Carol realizes she can't have a relationship with a man who doesn't believe in her and even tries to deny their attraction! To complicate matters, Carol is haunted by visions of werewolves unable to transformation back to their human side. Because of this, she is afraid to shift into her wolf form which makes her more unstable. Can Carol finally accept her 'inner wolf?' Can Ryan accept his growing feelings and trust her?
This story was very interesting because so much was occurring. But the author's clear writing made it easy to follow and fascinating to read. I found myself wanting to know about Carol's visions and even wished that she had more of them. I really liked her psychic abilities since I feel it really enriched the story line. Plus Carol has become a stronger character due to her special abilities. They have scarred her and she has had to learn confidence in her powers and herself because unbelievers in the past have tried to make her feel like she was mad or strange.
I feel the courageous heroine made this book. I especially liked how she wants to be taken on her own terms. She wasn't going to change herself to suit other people or make their lives easier because they didn’t want to believe her. She had plenty of: resilience, fortitude and moral integrity. It was a little frustrating that the hero took a while to realize what a good thing Carol was. He was a solid and sexy character but I really loved Carol!
This was an involving story that I simply had to finish. I love the world the author has created and can't wait to read more, especially about the red alpha's brothers?!

Another visit to Silver Town puts new wolf nurse Carol Woods front and center as she evades the eager bachelor population of grays and defends her psychic abilities. Much to the chagrin of (Chester) Ryan McKinley of Green Valley gray wolf pack. Red wolf North believes Carol should be his since his cousin turned her and he's concocted a nefarious plot that would both get revenge on Silver Town grays and have Carol falling in his arm as his mate. Carol meanwhile is still fighting her wolf traits and refuses to shift which is causing much consternation among Darien and the other alphas. Ryan has convinced himself that his desire to be near Carol is only to determine her true psychic abilities but soon they both have given up that premise and admit they feel the same about each other. I already liked Carol and Ryan from a previous installment and was comfortable with their romance and glad the majority of their couple conflict was external to their relationship. That moved the great secondary characters in position for later installments while giving Ryan a chance to flex his alpha muscles and not become a caveman. Meanwhile a sickness is running through the pack with possibly dire consequences and everyone is trying to get to the answers before the illness reaches epidemic proportions.
Improvements to the writing style and more heavily layered storylines keep this series on my next read shelf. Finally I'm accepting the term lupus garou instead of shifter, weres or wolves without gritting my teeth. The mystery portion of this installment was great and the romance piece was also very good. Tension in the action and mystery pieces kept the pages moving quickly. Overall there was much to like in this episode, a number of possible villains, a meaty mystery with quite a few possible causes and solutions, good action and a very likable lead couple. This fast paced read is a good entry to the series and has me anxious to read the next book right away.

Carol has been fighting the change for months, something no other wolf has done, due to her pysic abilities. But then she see's a dark stranger in her future, and her blood boils at the sight of him, Ryan McKinley, a Grey pack leader. Ryan, pack leader, has come to Carol for more than one reason, ever since he first laid his eyes on her, she fascinated him, even though he never believed in her psychic talents, she has never been far from his mind. When he comes to her with the purpose of a investigation, a fire grows steadily between them, binding them, and even though he knows its dangerous for him, he knows he could never forget Carol, or be willing to let her go!!!I have really enjoyed reading Terry Spear's books, and I found Wolf Fever to be an equally delicious read. Wolf Fever is the sixth in the series, and can be read as a stand alone, but I would recommend reading the previous book. Wolf Fever starts out in a way that only appeals to this reader from the first paragraph, with intensity and effect. As the story line progresses we see chemistry spark between them, but there is also danger and mystery mixed in with the story to keep the plot interesting and exciting at times, and there is definitely some steamy romance flaring up between Ryan and Carol that will only leave you wanting more. I also loved seeing Carol grow as part of the wolf pack and seeing her intimate relationship with Ryan blossom, into something beautiful and extraordinary. My favorite so far in this amazing series that will heat the blood and the senses.

Part of my fascination with this Terry Spear's wolf series is that she gets the technical parts down so that the story is incredible believable. You understand the transformation and the need for a pack. She does a wonderful job uniting the human condition with the animal instincts. I have really enjoyed the series so far, but this one wasn't my absolute favorite. That usually falls to the first in the series since there is always something special about your first time.
Carol is a newly minted wolf in Silver City (yes, I can hear you groan) with psychic abilities when she meets alpha Ryan who doesn't believe in psychic ability but is attracted none the less. Lots of heavy petting ensues since if they mate, they are mated for life. There are lots of hot moments in the story and overall this will get you through a cold winter night. Overall, this is a fun read if you enjoy some feverish werewolf sex.

Carol Woods is a newly changed wolf with psychic abilities. Ryan McKinley an Alpha from another pack... finds Carol intriguing and is very much attracted to her. He doesn't really believe that she has learned about the lupus garou through a vision and he's out to prove it no matter how tantalizing he finds her.
Wolf Fever is action-packed and sizzling hot. It's no surprise that I loved this book. Terry Spear writes great alpha males. They are really hard to resist, and they keep you turning to the page for more. An excellent story - Spear's wolves always find some kind of danger --this time it was a virus. It made for an original and enthralling read.

Book #6 in series is one that feels more in tune with the type of werewolf stories I am used to from other series that have read. There is a lot of interaction between the main characters that truly make the reader sympathize with what they are dealing with, both in human and in wolf form.
I thought the romance plot felt very agreeable as Carol did fit with Ryan the best and the tension caused by the viral outbreak truly brought home just how vulnerable the pack members were to outside manipulation.
Looking forward to reading more of the stories in the series.

I found this one a bit disappointing and slow going. The plot was interesting but there were too many repetitive conversations. I kept hoping things would speed up and we can see more action. Then, it was all over via a couple of phone calls and conversation and we didn't even get to read what happened first hand!!

This is book 6 in the series and the 1st book I read my TP. She has an easy and comfortable writing style which I enjoyed. The story held my attention all the way. Great societ. I am intrigued. Can't wait to read this series from book 1.

I really enjoyed having Carol's and Ryan's story. How both had trust tissues to overcome. I liked how they had to work together to save the Silver Town pack from a bioengineered virus that once they shifted to wolf form they couldn't shift back which scared Carol and she fought shifting herself. I have enjoyed each book of this series on there own and also to check up on people from other books. I recommend this book to read.

Overall pleasantly surprised I ended up liking this book. It took me a while to get into the book because the main character Carol was protected by males not allowing her to live without being monitored. As I got more into the meat of the book things started to get better and better. A few graphic images in my head and some action made for an exciting second half. Also, interesting to read during a pandemic.

This was a fun little story, the spicy scenes were alright, the terminology didn’t make me want to cry (like some books iykyk) the villains were Scooby Doo stupid it was pretty funny how often they failed miserably. The mc has a good personality despite being a cliche girl for readers to project themselves onto to fulfill their werewolf bf fantasies. I could use a little more depth/world building like some background characters didn’t even get names. It was just ok :]

Damn!! That was intense!! But it was really awesome!! There was alot of action 4 Darin's pack. the PI wants 2 supposedly get more info from carol about the past. Can Ryan get the answers he wants or give up on everything? When a few reds show up 2 cause trouble can they find out why and any solutions in x b4 everything goes from bad 2 worse? Read and find out. It's action packed. I loved it!!

Great 2nd wolf book!
I read a review that said this one had nothing to do with the 1st...wrong! It definitely is a stand alone story, but happily also has characters from the 1st book. It just expands & includes new ones, but still a great pack! Loved it!

Carol Wood possesses the ability to perceive the future and is a wear of the existence of wolves. In Lelandis’s novel, Carol’s objective was to secure employment at the hospital. However, she was captured by the wolf pack for knowing their secret and transformed into a wolf while attempting to protect Lelandi. A psychic nurse who has recently been turned by a Red psychotic were-wolf (already dead from a previous book, though this book makes a few references) is required to mate soon, and she refuses to shift into a wolf. A Private Investigator (Ryan) can't let it sit that the nurse is a psychic, and he is also the alpha were-wolf from a neighboring pack. It begins with the Silver (or a grey) pack leader Darien and his mate Lorelei trying to convince Carol (the psychic nurse) to shift and convince her to choose a mate soon. Carol apparently needs an alpha, and Darien's brothers Tom and Jake weren't interested and never made a move.
The brother (Conner) and cousin (North) of the red wolf who savagely turned Carol believe Carol belongs in their pack. It takes a while before the reader learns the brother and cousin, along with a few others, separated from their original red pack to try to create their own. The reds made several attempts at kidnaping Carol, they basically threatened the Silver pack, and then they brought in a virus to get every one sick. When a person was sick, they turn, they can't turn back. They thought to take over the Silver territory, but the sickness backfired on them. The bio-chemist who is responsible is mentioned several times, but only has a small appearance in a scene close to the end.
After many people get infected, there is panic, Carol mates Ryan, they figure out the vaccinations and cures... The End.
I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I picked up the book without reading any of the predecessors, and usually that doesn't go well for me. If I can get through it, understand it without having many (if any) questions, and I like the characters and the plot, I would say it was a good book. Terry was able to meet every expectation I required. I finished the book within three days (would have been sooner if I didn't have other stuff to do). The beginning threw me for a little bit, but I understand it was number 6 in a series, and I won't dock points for it. I will, however, take away a star for the conflict resolution. The Red pack members that attempted kidnapping all returned to their lives, and readmitted to the original red pack they came from. One died (Conner, the brother) because he threatened Darien and Lorelei, so I figured they would do something to the other members of the same party. Well, North and three other males were the main ones doing everything, the dirty work, if you will. They ran away every time, which indicates they were all betas. Woot... nothing special... When the biochemist gets his moment, that was it... a moment. He had Ryan pinned down, Carol comes in and agitates him to move, Ryan comes up and breaks his neck. The end, they live happily ever after... But wait! What about the cure? Well, the vaccine to keep any one still in human form that hadn't contracted the virus from getting the virus. The actual cure was a cop-out. A combination of several home remedies. Onions, honey, licorice (both red and black), and garlic. Now it's the end. The summary is about it, but it's a fairly easy read, and I did enjoy it.

I will never get enough of Terry Spear’s werewolf series. As long as she keeps giving me alpha heroes with strong and stubborn heroines who stand up to them and an interesting and fast-paced storyline, you can bet I’ll keep reading.
The storyline in Wolf Fever is actually the best of the series so far. Not only is there mystery and danger for Silver Town’s wolves, we get a little bit of humor in this book, along with, of course, some steamy sexual tension.
I like the fact that our hero, Ryan, has come back to Silver Town to, in his words, close his investigation by re-interviewing our heroine, Carol, about her psychic abilities that helped resolve past events in town, all because he doesn’t believe in psychics. I had to laugh out loud at this. The man is a werewolf, the stuff of legends. And he doesn’t believe in the paranormal. Carol gets a little sarcastic about that herself when talking to him about the issue. I also like that when Carol screws up, gets herself or someone else in trouble going against Ryan’s demands, most of which are for her safety, she learns from it. She doesn’t do it again. She may have to push the boundaries here and there, but she doesn’t push it to stupid just because she doesn’t like being told what to do. She has a mind of her own and she uses it. Ryan just wants her safe and she knows it and appreciates it. And that makes him even more attractive to her.
Carol is a newly turned wolf and is afraid to shift into her animal form. With her psychic gift, she’s been getting visions of members of the pack not being able to shift back into human form after shifting into wolves. Her fear and visions are justified, because the reader is privy to the danger being levied against the Silver Town wolves as it happens. Little by little as her visions come to pass, Ryan begins to believe in her more and more. Ryan has tried to fight the attraction to Carol over the past five months since he last saw her, but nothing he does gets her off his mind. That he has to watch Silver Town males compete to be her mate doesn’t help matters either. The sexual tension between Ryan and Carol begins early and smolders for a good bit, each scene more sensual and sizzling than the last. When Ryan finally does take her as his mate, they become attuned to one another so much they complement the other in everything they do.
Though the danger to the pack is serious and affects only a few of the wolves before it’s resolved, the perpetrators behind the danger are quite inept and don’t get away with their plan too much intact. They aren’t evil-doers, but just folks too desperate to make a new start and taking the easy way out, instead of working for what they want.
Another very nice addition to Ms. Spear’s series. She keeps it interesting in storyline, hot and steamy in romance, and charming and endearing while alpha and beguiling in character. And all of that makes me very happy as a reader.

As if living with precognitive abilities in an unbelieving world wasn't hard enough, Carol Woods now has to adapt to being a newly-turned werewolf. Even worse, her new pack doesn't trust her ability to stay in control (and stay hidden), so Carol must choose a mate or remain under the pack-leaders’ supervision. Females are rare, and she quickly goes from feeling like a wallflower to having all the attention she can handle.
As an adult turned werewolf, Carol has a lot to learn about the wolves' customs and culture. This was both interesting and useful to read, as WOLF FEVER was the first book I read in the Heart of the Wolf series. Learning alongside Carol, I soon realized that this was no overwrought “forced to marry” situation. The pack was more like a huge family eager to match-make. Enthusiastic, sometimes embarrassing, but always with their heart in the right place. Spear was not afraid to take risks with her characters, and gave Carol the luxury of more than one attractive candidate to consider.
Of course, it does not take long for Carol to identify her hero. To me, Chester “I go by Ryan” McKinley wasn’t as interesting a character as Carol, but I appreciated the humor of a werewolf that doesn't believe in psychics. Also, in Spear's mythology, werewolves are bonded for life once they have sex with another wolf. This makes for great sexual tension (and a lot of heavy petting). It was refreshing to read a paranormal romance where the characters can’t fall into bed with each other right away.
There are many components that come together to make a good book, and WOLF FEVER made a strong showing in most of them. The closed world of the Silver Town wolves was of practical interest (how does an entire paranormal sub-culture survive unnoticed in the modern world), and the plot of this particular book was intriguing as well. However, the flow of the writing itself was hit or miss. I didn't want to stop reading, but it did detract from my overall enjoyment of the book in places. Spear did a great job drawing realistic wolf details and behaviors into the fabric her werewolf mythology, and that (combined with the good plot and characters), is enough to bring me back to the Heart of the Wolf series.
Sexual Content: Several scenes of sexuality and heavy petting (no wolf pun intended).

My Synopsis: Carol is a recently turned lupus garou - who has another ability. She has visions of the future - usually signifying trouble. These visions have enabled her to keep from shifting for five months. She is troubled because one of her visions has shown her members of her new wolf family as wolves - unable to shift back. She is afraid that if she shifts, she will not be able to shift back again.
Since she is newly turned and unmated AND has not shifted - Darien, the pack leader - has moved her into his house in order to keep an eye on her. He wants her to learn their ways and doesn't want her shifting unexpectedly. He knows it will happen, it is just a matter of time. He also feels it is his responsibility to find her a mate.
Ryan McKinley is leader of a pack from a neigboring town and a P.I. Carol's visions had helped him to solve a murder, but he has been unable to get her out of his head. He says it is because he doesn't believe she is psychic and wants to get to the bottom of how she came upon her information. The harder he tries to prove she is a fraud, the more he starts to believe her, all the while neither one of them can seem to fight the growing attraction between them.
A mysterious flu sweeps through the community and before anyone can stop it, some of the wolves have shifted and cannot change back. It is up to Carol and Ryan to figure out what is going on and if they are going to be able to stop it in time.
My Thoughts: I did like this book - but I had a hard time picturing Carol. I don't think it had so much to do with her description, but the fact that I know too many Carols. My mom is Karol, my MIL is Carol and my next door neighbor is Carol. None of these women are young, sexy, wolf-like, (lol) so it took some time for me to erase my Carols and embrace this Carol. Once I really got into the story though, it got easier. This book was a little slower moving than previous books by Ms. Spear that I had read. It seemed to take longer to get to the "mystery" that needed to be solved. And while I grew to like Carol and Ryan together, I didn't instantly feel their chemistry - and maybe that was how it was supposed to be as neither one of them really wanted to be mated either.

Carol Woods sees the future - and she's a werewolf. She's not a natural born werewolf - she was attacked 5 months ago and turned. Since then, she's been fighting the change (successfully so far) and Darien, her pack leader, is concerned. She's fighting the change because she's been having visions of some of the men in her pack shifting into wolves and not being able to shift back. In addition to trying to convince her to shift, Darien is also trying to convince her to take a mate, as females are a precious commodity and he doesn't want her attacked and/or stolen.
Ryan McKinley is a former cop, now a PI, who assisted Darien's pack a few months ago with a problem they were having. Since then he hasn't been able to get Carol off his mind - he doesn't believe her visions are real. So he's back on Darien's turf to figure out how Carol figured out the clues to his case.
When Carol is almost kidnapped, she hires Ryan to be her bodyguard. He agrees, and that's where things start to really heat up. The attraction is definitely there, but Carol can't be with someone who doesn't believe in her "talent", and Ryan needs a mate who can embrace her wolf. Then, Carol's visions come true and the wolves can't shift back and the pack looks to her to find a cure.
My thoughts: I really enjoy reading Terry Spear's wolves; she is very good at making the wolf come across in their human counterparts. I love her Alpha males, and even though she was a new wolf, Carol was such a stubborn Alpha female, it was fun to see the Beta males trying (unsuccessfully) to win her affections. The social hiearchy of the packs was also well-done; although not the hero of this story, Darien was a great Alpha leader who was willing to work with another Alpha to resolve his problems. The sickness plot was interesting - biological warfare within werewolf packs is a novel storyline and it worked here, providing a dose of urgency to the story.
I'm looking forward to the next book in this series - Heart of the Highland Wolf.
