Is it wrong to steal from the rich and give to the poor?
Sophie and her team delve into a new case involving missing funds from a prestigious private school with connections to Hawaii’s royalty—but the online grifter might have justice on their side
Would you choose poison or a knife to kill someone you cared about?
An international task force tightens the net around the vigilante known as the Ghost, but forces from within might just drive him to murder as he tries to prevent a plot that threatens Sophie and her family.
Toby Neal was raised on Kauai in Hawaii. She wrote and illustrated her first story at age 5. After initially majoring in journalism, she eventually settled on mental health as a career and loves her work, saying, “I’m endlessly fascinated with people’s stories.”
Toby credits her counseling background in adding depth to her characters–from the villains to Lei Texeira, the courageous and vulnerable heroine in the Lei Crime Series, to the wounds and psychological implications of the heroes of the Scorch Series.
Toby Neal, the author of the Paradise Crime Thrillers, continues to bring Sophie Smithson’s story to life in her latest, Wired Strong. Wired Strong begins shortly after Wired Ghost ends. Sophie is still grieving for Jake and trying to deal with the various agencies who seem willing to do anything to capture Pim Wat and/or Connor while she is running Security Solutions. There are a lot of threads that are being woven together towards resolution but there are twists and turns that just keep pulling you along. Even as I tried to read faster to see what happens, another part of me was saying to slow down to make the story last. I saved this for a weekend because I knew from prior books that once I started reading, I wasn’t going to put it down until it was finished. It was nice to have Marcella take a more centered position in Wired Strong. Connor, the Master, Pim Wat, Sophie’s dad, the ambassador, and a new interest, Pierre Raveaux, all play important roles in Wired Strong. I can’t say much more because I don’t want to spoil the surprises in this exciting chapter of Sophie’s life. While you can read this as a stand-alone book, you will miss important connections and character story points by not starting at the beginning. If you are in isolation because of the pandemic, this is a great series to binge-read. Stock up on snacks and your favorite beverages, plump your pillows and get caught up in Sophie’s travails. You won’t regret it. The first in the series is Wired In.
A few years ago Sophie was just a genius computer tech working for the FBI. Now she has her own company, a family and has caught the eye of a few unique men. One man in particular, Connor, had joined an elite group of men in Thailand, assassins. Connor’s work was spiritual for him but his actions were questionable. This portion of her story is told from different people as each has a reason for wanting Connor’s help. Reading the other books is highly encouraged as the story has evolved over the course of the series and would not be understood by jumping in. I’m thrilled to have received an early copy and eagerly wait for the continuation.
I received an ARC from the author; here are my thoughts: I just can't seem to get enough of Toby Neal's writing! I have a love or hate relationship with every character she's introduced. I feel that Lei, Sophie, Doc Wilson, Pono, well, all of them, are my friends, my buddies. This latest installment of Sophie's struggle is one of those that had me cheering, tense, sad, feeling the good, the evil, all through the story. JUST WHEN I thought Sophie couldn’t be hurt any more, she had feelings of betrayal from those she loves. JUST WHEN I thought Pim Wat couldn’t be any more evil or conniving, she was. JUST WHEN I thought Toby Neal couldn’t evoke more emotion over a story than she has, she did. Will Sophie ever know peace? Will she love again? (Can Pim Wat be more evil?)
As a member of Ms Neal's ARC team I was so excited to get Wired Strong. It begins where Wired Ghost leaves off. A new case regarding the siphoning of school funds comes to Security Solutions which is really interesting (no spoilers) and Connor has a decision to make regarding The Master and Sophie's mother. Also another surprise is revealed you won't want to miss!
Get ready to jump on Toby's latest roller coaster of a ride. This one continues with Sophie continuing on from the last book. With a new case to solve, she dives in. As her and Raveaux follow the money trail, Connor makes choices for his own life. This book is super fast paced and will leave you on the edge of your seat. As you turn the last page you will want to grab the next book just to find out what happens. Great characters and a great read. Toby will hook you and you won't ever want to miss a book.
WIRED STRONG: Vigilante Justice Thriller Series (Paradise Crime Thrillers Book 12) is textbook for extreme crime solving! Toby Neal has once again proven why she is a USA TODAY Bestselling Author as she has all of her skills on display in her latest novel. This novel can be broken down into two sections:
Sophie Smithson’s Security Solutions is working on a case involving missing funds from a prestigious private school with connections to Hawaii’s royalty. This is the type of case that Sophie desires most, as it involves a cyber crime and she is able to display her multiple skills in solving this crime. However, the criminal turns out to be a modern day type Robin Hood. That’s just one of the surprises that is revealed about the criminal. Sophie and her team manage to work out an arrangement that is agreeable to everyone involved.
An International Task Force has been formed and is formulating plans to find the Ghost, a.k.a. Connor, and bring him in to to answer for his vigilante style justice. Only some time ago, Connor made the choice to give up everything he owned (Security Solutions and a gorgeous private island) and everyone he loved (Sophie) to join Yām Khûmkạn and become a student of the Master. Originally, he planned to learn all he could and then leave taking his knowledge with him to put into practice for his personal vigilante use. Unfortunately, the Master had to much power over him and he was never able to break free from his grip. The Master went so far as making him his Number One, meaning he was his most trusted student and would one day take over the Yām Khûmkạn. The Task Force was also interested in the Master, but much more interested in his lover, the feared, devious, hated Pim Wat who was also responsible for many of the most heinous acts of torture and murder any of them had ever seen. There was a more important factor the Task Force wanted her—she was Sophie Smithson’s mother and had vowed to kill Sophie and take her grandchildren!
I have read all of Neal’s novels in this Series. As I read this one, I couldn’t help but think how much Sophie has changed since Neal first introduced her to readers. She could barely carry own a conversation with anyone. She had few friends and the two she had worked exceptionally hard to draw her into their friendships. She had a difficult time even having business conversations but give her a computer rig and she was in her own world! Being in a long term relationship wasn’t even on her radar in the beginning. Now we see Sophie as she’s co-parenting her toddler daughter with Alika and she’s also pregnant with Jake’s child. She has well established friendships and work relationships. She’s also opening herself up to other situations. Now, if someone could just FIND and KILL her mother ... .
I was provided a complimentary copy of this novel by the author. The opinions expressed here are completely my own and without influence.
Sophie has really been put through the ringer over the years. She’s grown exponentially and is a far cry from the quiet and awkward geek we met and love. She’s embraced herself and is more confident than ever. She’s made a life with her small family but just when you think she’s finally found her HEA, the universe steps in and reminds her that there are definitely other plans in store. Yet another turn of events has led Sophie on different journey than she had hoped. Her life is far different from what she’d anticipated, yet strangely familiar. She’s back home with her dad and her dragon mother still wants her dead. Falling back into old habits, Sophie handles her next case by diving into it with her trusty computers. With a new partner, they tackle things head on. In true form their case is filled with mystery until the end. This time with a little hopeful redemption.
Action and suspense are high in Connor’s POV with his dealings with the Yām Khûmkạn, the Master, and Pim Wat. Still keeping a faithful eye on Sophie and her family, Conner resurfaces in an attempt to keep them safe thus triggering the FBI and other international agencies along the way. In a game of cat and mouse, who will be the winner?
When Toby Neal introduced us to Sophie Ang she said, “...her path to wholeness was going to be a long, potholed road filled with challenges and heartache that she'd overcome, one adventure at a time.” she was NOT kidding! Toby Neal is exceptional in her writing skills. She deserves all the recognition she has been receiving and so much more. I always look forward to every adventure she brings us on.

I don't know how Toby Neal does it. Twelve books in the series, and all twelve absolutely great, as is ever book in her related series, The Paradise Crime series. And she never repeats herself, every book is different. Don't miss any of them! Toby Neal's books leave you breathlessly waiting for the next. The best part of Wired Strong 12 was the preview of 13 at the end, since Sophie's life is a ride you don't want to get off. You wouldn't want to live it,although it has its moments, but it's amazing to read. She even makes computer geek info and financial crime exciting. Talk about your toxic mothers, Sophie's makes the Evil Stepmother in every fairy tale Disney ever cribbed off the Brothers Grimm seem tame. Even her dad turns out to be duplicitous. As well as her ever present "Ghost." Although he still loves her and wants to be with her, he's not sure if she can trust him. For one thing, he pretended he was dead, and for another, he's living in the same ninja headquarters as her mother and her lover the Master, assassins both. But he has saved her and her child on more than one occassion. Sophie overcomes obstacle after tragedy, never losing sight of the beauty of life, and in this book, she is pregnant with her second child. You don't know how she can bear both the joy and the sorry, but she somehow comes out stronger and wiser, with a greater capacity for love.. And of course, there's a couple of great dogs. Patience is a virtue in short supply when it comes to Sophie's adventures. I just have to know what comes next! It's going to be amazing.
A new book from Ms Neal is always a treat. I have to say that I think I have read almost all of her published works, so I was looking forward to this 12th episode in Sophie’s story. This series is best read in order as the characterisation builds within each novel. In Wired Strong, we find Sophie called in to help investigate money which is being embezzled from one of Hawaii’s wealthiest schools. Is it someone out to commit fraud, or is there another motive? At the same time various authorities are trying to find Connor and bring him back to the US for justice. But will he be able to leave the compound where he has been living now that the Master and Pim Wat have returned? Although this book does not have as much action as some others in the series, it is still a gripping read, with Sophie being shown (yet again) as a strong modern woman in a world where not everyone plays by the rules. I was gifted an ARC of this book in exchange for a fair review.
WIRED. STRONG.......Toby Neal Pim Wat, a face now resembling a gargoyle ,meditating would not stop the anger she held within. To rise like a Phoenix and strike terror in her enemies and those that stole years from her. Even the Master sees this dangerousness in her and honor that she is true to who she is, and as Sophia mother. Connor came out of hiding to rescue Sophia, now being hunted, transferring his assets to her, she feels he won’t betray her, but does she. For Sophie a multi task law enforcement agency is trying to leverage her to help them capture The Ghost., an international fugitive. A plot that quickly brings you up to date on the happenings of members of the family, and loved ones. From a tragedy to a happy occasion awaits Sophia, though her life seems to be with others wanting something from her. A great flowing plot, with action and surprises Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.
Wired Strong picks up shortly after Wired Ghost with an emotional Sophie diving into a new case. A large private school has uncovered a huge case of embezzlement and the forensic accountant they have hired comes to Security Solutions for help. Across the ocean, Connor is unsettled in his position with The Master.
For once, it isn't Sophie's case that has all the action in the story, but instead Connor's portion seems to carry the suspense this time. After the heavy action and emotional rollercoaster of Wired Ghost, though, this is perfect.
Sophie has been my favorite book character for a long time now, since her first appearance in the Paradise Crime Mysteries series. Several conversations in this book reinforced that, but I can't be specific because they all revolve around a plot point I don't want to spoil here. Just know my inner feminist stood up and cheered on several occasions :) I'm also liking Raveaux more and more. The only thing I didn't like about this book was that it ended!
Toby Neal continues to build upon her character, Sophie Smithson, in the Wired series. In fact, she keeps adding layer upon layer to all her characters until they become like friends that you want to keep hearing about their lives, no matter the circumstances.
In Wired Strong we find Sophie adjusting to the new challenges in her life while keeping her business secure and on track solving the mystery of missing funds from an esteemed private school with connections to Hawaiian royalty.
Threads from the continuing backstory of Sophie’s evil, twisted mother, and former lover, Connor, are woven throughout, letting us know there is more of Sophie’s story and the tapestry Toby has created, for us devoted readers looking forward.
Wired Strong is a continued adventure of Sophie's struggle with her mother Pim Wat. There are unexpected surprises that await you. Not every outcome is wonderful, but do be aware that this story does not let up for a second. If you've enjoyed the other books involving Sophie, you will love this one. Settle down and prepare for a great read. Myself, I am already anxiously awaiting the next read about Sophie and friends
As an ARC reader, it is my privilege to read this author's works. This review is freely given.
At one level she is the head of Security Solutions and the company is hired to work out the who, how and why of money missing from an educational charitable foundation.
On another level, all sorts of intelligence agencies are trying to track down (her evil mother) Pim Wat and vigilante Connor.
And on the final level, Sophie is pregnant and still dealing with the loss of Jake.
The threads are woven as brilliantly as ever. Great book.
I was so overwhelmed by the book!! This book causes strong emotions and is not a light hearted read at all! I have since started to get my friends to read the book 1 of this series to get them hooked on to it so that I have someone to discuss. Much is happening in Sophie's life apart from the case and that incites many emotions! I screamed out my excitement (internally) after I read what's to come next in her story. Great writing, as should be evident from my review.
Once again, Toby Neal works her literary magic in this series. In Wired Strong, Sophie is battling between inner turmoil, family matters, and a new case. She seems to be slowly breaking through the emotional barriers she’s built up throughout her life. Meanwhile, Connor is experiencing his own turmoil and fighting the ultimate battle of his life. This is a quick read and I look forward to the next installment of this series.
Each and every book in this Wired series featuring Sophie is even more exciting than the last. This one is no exception! You stay on the edge of your seat through out the entire book. Full of the fast paced suspense that Toby Neal always delivers. My advice is to read the entire series! I received this book as an arc reader, but the review is my own.
I always look forward to another visit to Sophie's world. This visit does not disappoint! It is so easy to become emotionally invested in all of the characters and eager to see what develops next in their lives. Toby is a master at weaving a complex story that is compelling and always so rich with details. I can so vividly imagine the exotic locations she weaves into her stories. If you are a fan of the Wired series, I feel confident in saying you will love this book! If you haven't read any of the Wired series, you are in for a treat!
I can honestly say I’ve read everything Toby Neal has published and I have loved ever single word she has written, the way she writes is totally amazing and empowering to read, she has a wonderful talent of pulling me in and gripping me from the beginning to the very end and beyond, I am always left feeling satisfied and wanting more all at the same time and that for a reader is a wonderful feeling and keeps me coming back to her books time and time again.
Wired Strong was a great title because Sophie is strength personified... losing Jake just about finished her but once again she picked herself up dusted herself off and remembered the reasons she has for living... her children.
Back at work with a new case in her grip Sophie is in the thick of things trying to find who is stealing money from Kama’aina Schools, the culprit and reasoning behind it all were a refreshing surprise.
Sophie is also still trying to sort out Connors crap and figure out what to do about her mother and the master... time will tell with this storyline but I am imagining an explosive ending to it all...
I would love to hurry off to the next book but alas I must wait patiently for it to be written...lol I really do love losing myself in Sophie’s world for a while.
And this is why Toby is one of two of my favorite authors. Every book is even better than the last. This grabs you right from the start and keeps you until the.very.end! Can hardly wait for the next book to see what happens with Sophie.
I've been a fan of the Wired series from the beginning (one of the few worth re-reading). Once again Toby Neal surprised with a couple twists and I loved it.
Another great addition to the Paradise Crime series. Lots of mystery and suspense. This is a very enjoyable and entertaining series. Highly recommend. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving this review
Sophie's story continues to unfold in Wired Strong. The suspense keeps you turning the pages from beginning to end and counting the days until the next installment! I couldn't put it down. Will she have a happy ever after? Will Pim Wat finally be captured, stopped or killed? Will Conner ever escape the Yam Kukahn? What will happen with Pierre? I don't know the answers, but I do know that I can't wait to find out!
Once again, Sophie is involved in difficult challenges and struggles. Losing Jake was hard, but she continues to persevere with the support of important people in her life. This story compels us to think about how sometimes those around us aren’t perfect and can’t always be trusted, but that not everything is black and white. Who can we trust? Who is toxic and needs to be removed from our life? Toby Neal’s books are screen-worthy! I hope that I get to see them made into engaging on-screen stories with phenomenal actors.
Great character development. Multi plot involves a well written mix of mystery and suspense. This series never loses steam keeping you on the edge of your seat with suspense. Anticipating the next installment.
I have read every book in this series. With each book the series just keeps getting better. This book was a real page turner. I loved it and can not wait for the next one !
I am still angry at you for killing off Jake. However, it doesn't stop me from indulging myself in this worthy series. Crime and drama always intertwine each other, when death and mayhem follows.
Loved this book, loved Sophie and all the crime solving that was needed. Sophie lost so much in the prior book ; she has a lot to deal with : she is living with her father to protect herself and working a case of missing funds from a prestigious Hawaiian school with her Security Solutions team. Love all the characters in this book and and feel like I am in Hawaii with Sophie dealing with her issues like the international task force formed to bring Connor her closest ally to justice for his vigilante crimes, and also fear of what her mother Pim Wat may be planning next , you never know what to expect. I have read all of this series of books and have loved each one. The development of the characters and all the charm of Hawaii keep me glued to these books. Toby Neal is an exceptional author and has certainly deserved all her awards and recognition that she has received. Sophie has developed so much character and charm since her early days as a cyber genius. It is a fun and exciting journey to get to know Sophie and live with the excitement and drama that Toby writes about. Can't wait for the next one! I am an ARC reader and am giving a voluntary and honest review.
