The Wolven lived by a rigid code of duty and loyalty with any dissent met with swift and brutal punishment. Thus, Leland Oakridge, the most powerful wolf in North America, was stunned when an obvious breach of that code, left her a victim as a result. Philippa Reed was not happy with the situation she found herself in as time was running out and the pressure mounting on her to secure the future of her Pack. Despite her reluctance to change her lifestyle, the survival of her Pack trumped everything else.
Born and bred in Windhoek, Namibia, Stein has considerable experience in the media field and has worked as a journalist, TV producer, and PR consultant before starting her own small media production company. Her hobbies include writing, reading, cooking, travelling, photography, and scouting the airwaves for new music and watching soccer. The thirty five year old Stein started writing at the age of thirteen after feeling cheated by the ending of a novel she was reading. She took the novel and rewrote it from the ending back to the front, adding 200 more pages to it. Since then she's only written in her native language, Afrikaans, a derivation of the Dutch language. Throughout her high school career, she 'lended' out her work to fellow boarding school students at a fee and made a killing writing love stories for couples on Valentine's Day. Not a native English speaker she decided to experiment in 2007 by writing a few short stories in English, which since has been kept password-protected on her hard drive never to see the light of day. By pure accident, she came across platforms on the internet to publish her work and was encouraged by a friend to try and post some of her stories. Stein still resides in Windhoek.
So, if you can get past the grammatical errors, and a few typos. And just concentrate on the storyline, I promise you won't be disappointed. English is Willard's second language but her imagination is astounding.
When I first read this book I didn't write a review. Instead I looked for more of her works. Her ability to engage you into her story telling is truly amazing. But this book goes above and beyond. If you love the paranormal especially wolves then this I would highly recommend. It takes the paranormal to another level.
It has everything. Family, love, action, passion and an awesome storyline which you just dive into.
so far! I didn’t know what to expect. I’ve read so many lycanthropy book series like from Robin Roseau, Radclyffe, Domina Alexandra and a few others done very well. I must say that Lycanthropy isn’t my most favorite of preternatural beings. Depending on how they are portrayed and certain new nuances to them. I find more Were’s to be arrogant, hot headed and a bit harder to love. They however fall in line after Vampires, my most beloved.
There wasn’t much to say about Antonia Buckley-Grey, the Supreme Alpha nor the Prime Alpha Leland Oakridge at face value. They seemed like average predatory Wolven beings to me. Then walks in this mysterious Wolven and bites Prime Alpha and leaves the scene of the crime before we know who it is. This story unfolds from there.
Side note: This series is not filled with young 20 and 30 something people. They’re all 4O, 50, and 60’s. It is quite refreshing to read about older and a little more seasoned characters. I wish there were more. Check out his author’s “Hunter” and the “Guardian” series.
And then the characters start to emerge with their characteristics. I found myself pulled to Phillipa Reed. She was very enigmatic and dogmatic. The characters start to have more depth and color to them. I liked following the “mating” pull that happened between two unsuspecting individuals. We saw the two Alphas evolve. And my heart went out to Antonia for many reasons.
I also had a deep respect for Emeritus Supreme Alpha Victoria. She was like the glue you never thought would be. I was still slower to like Jeanine and Fraser. They were just fillers and nothing exciting.
The funniest part is when Leland took a plane back Phillipa’s territory and an unsuspecting Phillipa was met on the tarmac! I laughed for days. Being a black woman…I saw what was coming.
Boo on the ending. It was a cliffhanger, but just blah as a way to end this part of the series.
Awersome paranormal story and enjoyable read . This was about two different . (wolves) but each a Alpha of there pack. Leland was Supra alpha of all packs except for one. A rogue pack who refused to join. There Alpha Phillips refused to respond. One night whilst out with her bodyguards. Leland is given a mate nite but she doesn't know who by. This story is about betrayal, trust, and much more. Stein Willard did a brilliant job writing this story cannot wait for the next one in this series. She is one of my favourite authors and every book I've read by her has been excellent.
This was a great read my new favorite series took me 2 days to finish which is sad because it's over, can't wait for number 2 in this series. I loved reading about Phil and Leland also Antonia and Victoria. I look forward to reading about Jeanie and her family also. No problem recommending this book to my peers.
I liked the story over all, the bouncing around between multiple different characters got confusing sometimes but the story was great! I really wish the editor of this book would do a better job, there were spelling errors and at one point there was a sentence that seemed to be left unfinished. Otherwise, it’s a great read!
I really enjoyed this book can't wait for book two. The characters are very likable and well developed. The story is interesting I'm looking forward to see where the story go's in book two. Thanks again for another winner.
I really liked this one and the fact is just the beginning of a series only makes it better, but I did need more development between the main characters and maybe a little less about the rest, even though their stories were important, related and interesting.
Loved the story and was a great read however there are many errors within the book like wrong names being used when should be another character name which was confusing plus other editing issues
This book is mind blowing! My favorite of of all Stein's books. If you love werewolf books you have to read it. The story line is surprising and the characters have depths that draw you in. And the best is that it's part of a series. Wow!
One of the only books were I have not cared too much about the errors/typos. The story was amazingly good to read and I was there with pompoms cheering for Jeannine and the family. Leyland and Philippa are an amazing couple. Looking forward to reading the next.
Leland and Philippa, such interesting main characters. Love the budding relationship between the two, and love the setting of this book. THEN there is the mystery...
The storyline was pretty good but the sex was lacking and I didn’t like that the point of view kept switching to so many people. But I love a f/f pregnancy!
What took me so long to finally start reading this series. And did it captured me completely....oh yes, it did. If you haven't started reading this gripping story, Do So Now.
