After tragedy strikes, Daniela Avelar steps up as CEO to her brother’s global yacht empire. But to prevent corporate mutiny, she needs the help of his business partner, Valerio Marchesi.
Little does Daniela know that Valerio has already sworn to keep her safe. And when the tycoon discovers she’s in grave danger, he insists she become his bride! He’ll risk the unavoidable chemistry that sparks every time they lock eyes. Because this engagement of convenience is anything but… It’s a red-hot fire burning out of control!
Amanda was born into a large Irish-Italian family and raised in the leafy green suburbs of County Dublin, Ireland. After dabbling in a few different career paths, she finally found her calling as an author after winning an online writing competiton with her first finished novel. With three small daughters at home, her days are usually spent doing school runs, changing diapers and writing romance. She still considers herself unbelievably lucky to be able to call this her day-job.
I don't know if I've read a Harlequin romance ever but this will not be my last. Nor will this be my last by Amanda Cinelli.
💕Our heroine, Dani, has been in love with our hero, Valerio, for years as he was her brother's best friend. However Valerio is suffering from PTSD after being kidnapped along with Dani's brother, Duarte, and then witnessing his murder. Valerio is in no place to be in a relationship or run his company, so Dani has been at the helm. Now both of their lives are in danger and Valerio must protect Dani in a promise made to Duarte.
⭐There is a lot to like about this book. The settings are elegant, lush, extravagant, pure escapism. ⭐The chemistry between these two is apparent from the beginning and only gets more reactive as the book goes on. ⭐The sex is sexy. Tastefully written. Descriptive not tawdry. Sex scenes are difficult to write and Cinelli pulls them off beautifully. ⭐We get equal points of views from the characters which I personally love. I like seeing the struggle from both sides and knowing how everyone feels. ⭐The pacing of this book is quick and a good bit of the setup as to why they're in danger, the trauma to Valerio, etc occurs off page which is nice because it doesn't weigh down the story and allows us to focus on the main characters, their struggle to fight the feelings they have for one another, and Valerio's healing. Written differently this book could easily become more spy/mystery/adventure than romance which is not what I'm here for!
If you're looking for something fun to read with love, sex and a just enough intrigue, this is your jam. And I'm super excited to read what's next.
Thank you Amanda Cinelli for giving me, a long time reader, newer reviewer, the chance to read your book before it came out in exchange for a fair and honest review.
A solid 3.5. I think Ms. Cinelli is a newer author to HP. I enjoy her books.
Hero here does not see himself as a hero. Heroine has confidence in business, but not in herself in personal terms. H is h's brother's best friend - who is presumed dead in a botched kidnapping. h has crushed on H most of her life. H and h have a history of bickering. H was present when brother was kidnapped and H has taken on the role of protecting h.
My favorite scene involved a game of Truth and Lies.
Forbidden h to H; brother's best friend; playboy H; h is insecure about her looks/and just being a woman. She is not a virgin - so if that matters to you - she is very inexperienced though.
Very enjoyable story packed with mystery and adventure.
A great first chapter, Dani has kidnapped her dead twin brother's best friend. For his own good! Valerio is urgently required to save the empire that's crumbling while he recovers from the harrowing kidnapping that left Duarte dead. Promising Duarte in his dying moments he'd look after his twin sister, Valerio turns the tables and agrees to attend the important meeting with Dani, as long as she marries him.
Race against time, nail biting mystery and adventure packed into wonderfully descriptive pages. Valerio needs to eliminate the threat to Dani; all the while hoping she doesn't find out. Wonderful reappearances by Valerio's brother from "The Secret to Marrying Marchesi" which I haven't read but I certainly will be now. Both Dani and Valerio are likeable characters. The backstory is centred around his and Duarte's kidnapping and it's written enough to make you curious as to what happened.
I really enjoyed this story, I liked the characters, I loved the opening chapter that set the scene and I liked the dialogue between the two. I highly recommend to anyone who wants to read something different which touches on past characters and the link to Book 2.
This story was interesting. There was a hint of danger, some serious topics like grief and PTSD, and romance. Valerio asked Dani to marry him to keep her safe six months after Dani's twin, who was Valerio's best friend, was tortured and killed. As Valerio was there, he felt some guilt at not keeping Duarte alive. So, in order to catch those who killed Duarte and with thoughts of keeping Dani safe, Valerio stayed away for six months, leaving her to run the company they both owned. That all ended when Dani literally tracked him down, tied him down, and demanded he come back and take up his responsibility to the company. After that, things took off with visits to exotic places and secrets being discovered. I enjoyed this overall, and recommend this for those looking for something on the shorter side.
A passionate story of lust and betrayal! With the first book in her Avelar Family Scandals duet, Amanda Cinelli is quick to enthrall her reader with a story of loss in THE VOWS HE MUST KEEP. The characters were multi-faceted as carriers of the drama for the loss they shared and in holding the reader's attention as passion began to ignite between them like never before. I'm looking forward to more in the series.
Daniela was quick to draw my sympathy as we met with the news of her picking up the pieces after losing her brother and the added stress of a business takeover in the making if she can't get his business partner back at the helm to calm the board.
Valerio is a complex character. He's easy to understand, but difficult to read the depth of his guilt. He eventually tells Daniela why he felt the need to distance himself from the company and steps up to make things right with her.
I highly recommend this story to anyone who enjoys a fast paced romance filled with equal amounts of romance and strife.
Romance genre: brother's best friend Series: The Avelar Family Scandals Length: 224 pages
Plot: Daniela's twin brother is about to be declared legally dead after a horrible incident in Rio where he and his business partner/best friend were abducted and tortured. The friend, Valerio, isn't doing well. He's suffering from PTSD and he has secrets about the incident as well. Dani is trying to get him to tell her what really happened, and barring that, she needs him to come back to his business, the one she's been running while he recovers. Valerio knows things that Dani doesn't, though, and in order to keep her safe, he says they must marry. This is both heaven and hell for Dani because it's everything she always wanted, but only a facsimile. Except that Valerio has secrets about more than just the incident that destroyed him...
Commentary: Oh these two! Just admit it already. They had everyone believing they didn't like each other when it was so obvious that they did! I liked that Dani wasn't a typical stick-thin waif of a pixie (which, honestly, I usually adore a size-difference trope), but neither was there any harping on the "curvy girl" idea. I never did understand why Valerio didn't just tell Daniela everything - by all accounts, his included, she was smart, driven, competent; surely she would have understood. But the secrets drove the plot. And there was that little plot twist at the end (with no mention of it in the admittedly very cute epilogue).
Amanda Cinelli is an author who draws the reader into her stories with amazing opening scenes that keep giving us wonderful romantic tales until the end. THE VOWS HE MUST KEEP is a captivating romance with a brave heroine whose self-confidence was eroded by her ex-boyfriend, and a noble hero suffering from PTSD after he was kidnapped – and ultimately escaped. I loved this story of love and loss which had enough suspense to keep the plot moving at a fast pace – and loads of heat. The H/h were fabulous and recognized their love for the other, but it took many twists and turns before they were able to acknowledge and embrace it.
It was okay. I got through it. I didn’t like that it seemed to be so many loose ends in the story line. We didn’t see how the “twist” affected the main characters. Everything was really vague. I didn’t really get sucked into the story. Maybe the next book in the series wraps up all the loose ends but I won’t recommend this to many people.
there's a difference between actually feeling alive and just going through the motions of life. This right here, being so far out of your comfort zone, is where you'll find the former.
you put me first every single time. You told me that if you want something you just have to take a deep breath and dive...
I like this book. I will write a longer review later. The one thing I did notice was in the epilogue. I liked the epilogue, but on one page their little boy was three years old, but the very next page contradictated his age.. It indicated he was born on his due date almost two years previously. Maybe I overlooked something, but I don't think so.
