Mike Evans lives in Iowa with his wife, children, and two adopted dogs Rusty and Harley Quinn. He writes with a passion to bring his characters to life, to make you fall in love with them, and then make you flip pages to find out if they’ll survive or perish. He keeps his characters realistic, there are no superheroes. There are no perfect characters in his books, everyone has their flaws much like that of life. Mike loves to write in different genres and is unafraid to try something new.

What actually is going on in this book. I don't understand how it has such good reviews. This book is all over the place. How are some people fighting zombies whiles other's don't even know they exist? Are there different time lines? What even is the pov? Kind of feel like a collection of short stories instead of a novel. To be fair, I didn't read the first couple of books.

I'm having a hard time understanding some of the sentences. One of my pet peeves is when a book clearly hasn't been edited by a professional and oh this one hasn't even been proof read by the looks of it. That gives you confusing sentences like these:

"He was a few exits before Ames but heading like you were going to Ames was definitely the quickest route to get there."

"Jake half-opened the lever on his rifle checking to make sure that the bullet still had at the very least one in the cycle."

"Unfortunately, he shimmied out from under the truck as quickly as he could, but his speed was not good enough."

"When he walked in, Jorgensen started clapping. He was the man in charge and had
been at just that company alone twenty years as a journeyman electrician. Jorgensen began a very unwanted round of clapping for Colby."

"I don’t care what kind of truck you got, if there’s that many of those things then there is surely something in the way of numbers that is going to keep the dead from being able to get your truck stuck."

Sentences like these and much more, make the scenes really confusing. I constantly get lost, just trying to understand one sentence after the other. And I think the pov is changing? Idk but 1 minute, we are following one character, then the next sentence we are hearing the thoughts of a different character. Omniscient third person maybe? I was never really a fan of that. It just feels like you can't get close enough to the story.

I also really don't like the foreshadowing. I'm thinking of a specific scene where it has potential to be a really good and intense scene, but I keep getting pulled out of it by lines like, "Had she known what was coming next, she would have gotten to her vehicle and gotten the fuck out of Dodge. Since she was not privy to the hell to come, she continued being a great friend..." and "...not knowing her day was going to be incredibly worse very, very, soon..." I found this really distracting.

Is this a YA book? There's a lot of swearing and mentions of "quickies." But a lot of the characters are kids?

This next complaint kind of nit picky and I understand that so this isn't includes in my rating, but I really hate uneven chapters. What I mean by that is, the majority of these chapters are between 15 and 20 pages. Then you have chapters 1 and 2 that are only 6 and 7 pages and chapter 6 that is 40 pages. It just feels so uneven. Please give me some consistency.

Just another day on the cul-de-sac. Not!

Every day is an adventure in the Evans' house. Mike is using all of his zombie fighting skills to keep his family safe in the ZomPoc. Of course, being a famed author of zombie themed books made it much easier. Easier still when you cast yourself and your family as the main characters in the ZomPoc series. Of course you have to also cast all your neighbors and their kids and then you have the core of a riotous, rip roaring, rollicking read! Hilarity ensues! Throw in every possible way the day could get worse and you've got a best selling series guaranteed to tickle the funnybone. The characters are fresh and form ftting cast for their roles. How could they not be when you star your own brood in the series! And funny! How could it not be when you have preteens with rifles and pistols defending their home while mom and dad are galavanting around outside leaving the youngest Evans to keep things copacetic on the cul-de-sac!

Funny, sad, terrifying, bloody, vulgar and half a dozen other terms to describe this book and storyline, but none quite completely describe this prepper autobiography. I must admit, it is a daring and surprisingly effective theme that, I can tell, will continue through several more volumes in this remarkable series. This is one whopping big great read!

It was a one-eyed, one horned, flying purple people eater.
She wore an itsy bitsy, teeny weeny, yellow polka dot bikini.

Several Stories

I like this series but this one was dragging to me. I was getting kind of bored with Mike and his parents. I was more interested in Emily and Mckinzey. I was feeling like things were left out with the folks on the tractor. Tony and Holly don't seem to be getting anywhere either. It's a lot going on all at once. I guess there's something for everybody though. It was just getting good at the end but, again, that was Emily and Mckinzey. Now there's more characters with the Dr. And his wife. If they make it. It's a busy series, but I like it. I like the Children's stories too.

Another Winner

I love this series. The zombie writer faces a, real zombie outbreak. Mike is trying to save his stubborn parents in this book, while his wife Emily is still trying to get home to her family. The story has zombies, plenty of action and suspense, but the humor makes it a winner to me. Mike Evans is writing as if this happened to him and his family. No one took his writu g zombie books to seriously until now and Mike finds that the fiction he writes is not helping much with the reality he is facing. Great series and I can hardly wait for the next book!

Evans introduces yet more people on the block, including a female weightlifter and her husband. We’re still very early in the apocalypse watching people come to the grips with the fact that people are becoming zombies. The original storyline continues to advance little by little as the cast enlarges. Presumably, most of these people are going to die during the next ten books.

The cast is now large enough to make it difficult to keep track of everyone. That could be a problem, especially if like me you’re reading the next novel every once in a while rather than straight through.

This series is really starting to drag out. Seeing that its a 7 book series has me cringing a little bit. I love the concept. I love(d) the characters but there is too much jumping around. The new additions in this book were unnecessary and out of place- there are enough plot lines open. Then it jumped back to characters I had forgotten about. On the positive it is a really easy fast read- hopefully books 5-7 tie up some loose ends- or kills some people off!

Mike is on a mission to reach and rescue his parents and to bring them to his house. Emily his wife meanwhile is still on her horrific journey to reach her family. Lots of zombie action and battles for survival. Another edge of your seat, emotionally charged, character driven tale. Looking forward to book 5

Mike Evans, you are just so mean to us. Leaving the book to end like that is just cruel! I’m glad I have the rest of the series already! I really love that the characters are your family. Great way to know how to build a character! The Evan’s have to make it out of this.
I love that your son and daughter wrote short stories to end the book with again. Hoping this happens in the whole series.

So exciting

I am really loving this series. It is scary, exciting, and frequently hilarious. I am also really enjoying the kids stories. I have to hurry and get the next one though because the cliffhanger is killing me.

Crazy good

I love this series! Fast paced funny and crazy all rolled into an amazing story. The series pulls you in as you envision yourself and neighbors in place on the Evans family

Zombies #4

I am giving this book ( series so far) a five star rating. I am enjoying reading this awesome series by Mike Evans and loving his family! You all need to read these books and you will understand what I mean. The series has given me some chuckles as well as some tears. At this time in our country, being quarantined in our homes, we need some humor in our lives. Read the series and thank you Mike and you also, Jake and Lilly, I love your stories.
