I do not understand these high reviews. This came off as a very amateur story in desperate need of an editor: there were several places in the Kindle version that were missing words (and one place that is missing a few paragraphs! - location 552)

It's a clean story and hints at Christian themes, although there is no mention of the characters having a personal faith.

But to sum up: Sara marries her boss after a whirlwind romance, then overhears some things, realizes that she's gotten herself into deep doo-doo and goes on the run. She uses her credit card but no one ever shows up in town (the happily-ever-after comes way too easily)

Then, the ending. That was just too much to swallow for me, and I won't be reading anything else from this author.

3.50 RATING- So what's a trashy girl like me doing reading a nice book like this? An accident, I swear =) I didn't realize when I downloaded this freebie that it was a clean romance with Christian overtones or I would have skipped over it. I just happen to enjoy my books a bit on the dirty side. Still, the woman on the run storyline and shorter length pulled me in and the book ended up being okay. I'm just going to mark this as read and move on to my normal smut!

Just a note, I didn't feel that the book was overtly religious and I didn't feel like a non-believer would find this book difficult to read. Just my opinion, others may feel different.

This book was a struggle in spite of it's short length (as evidenced by the fact that it took me so long to read). It was really hard to read considering the near constant head-hopping. We'd start out a scene from one character, then two paragraphs later jump into the head of the other character, then a paragraph later jump into another character... ad nauseum. It was REALLY hard to keep characters straight because of this.

Second of all, the plot was pretty terrible. It had the potential to be interesting... a newlywed bride runs away from her husband after something bad and ends up sick and stranded. Turns out, her husband was involved in drug running, and everything (and I mean everything) that could have been interesting about this novel involved that storyline and it was all literally taken care of off page and was very neatly tied up with a bow at the end. The utter convenience of the danger and drama kind of made me go "Eeeh?"

Not to mention the fact that the two leads have insta-love that would do a bad YA dystopian proud. I have no idea why these two people like each other. They're vaguely good looking, I guess? There's even a scene at the end where it says something like "Trent and Sara's relationship flourished". I guess? I mean, he did make out with her after knowing her like two hours and after she was diagnosed with a nasty infection (which didn't seem to bother her much after a day or so. Lucky jerk. I'm always sick for days and days).

Oh and lest I forget....

So, if you couldn't tell, I didn't like it.

Sara in Montana was a nice, clean romance story with a good story behind it. I was able to picture both Sara and Trent very well and they were very likable characters. I enjoyed the writing style and the pace of the book. There were a couple parts in the story that I thought if written a little differently it could have been better but I am glad I read it. Overall I really enjoyed this book. This was the first book by Morris Fenris that I have read and I look forward to reading more of his books. Very pleased with the book and it is worth the read.

Sweet, a bit of a stretch in the story, something to relax with. It didn't make me want to read the other books in the series, which I always do when I fall in love with a story, story teller, or character.

This book was super predictable after the first 25 pages or so. The plot was superficial and cheesy.

This is absolutely a fantastic book, I am looking forward to the rest of the books in this set. This is the first book I have read by Morris Fenris. I guess I thought men couldn't write good romance stories but I am sure glad that I was wrong. I told my sister about this author and we went and bought 6 boxed sets of his books plus a single. We read pretty much the same books because we enjoy talking about the books after we read them and we both loved this book.

On the plus side this was a clean...something. It wasn't a romance because there was too little realism for it to be about actual relationships between actual people...more like a fairy tale or childhood Barbie fantasy where everything turns out magically perfect, perfect, perfect. It didn't start out too badly but really got worse and worse as it went along and by the time the ending nears, silliness started rushing in at an almost breathless rate. There was a lot of internal inconsistency, like the heroine had poor vision, sometimes far-sighted, sometimes nearsighted, but she was able to drive without glasses. The book said the town was so small that there was no motel or B&B, then suddenly they are borrowing a bed from a local B&B. Then it turns out the town is the only place in Montana where you don't have to go before the County Clerk with ID to apply for a marriage license, and after popping the question you can get married instantly! I hate loose ends as much as anybody, but sometimes you can tie things up too tightly with just too many pretty little bows.

“Sara in Montana” is a touching novel about love, overcoming obstacles, and celebrating the spirit of Christmas.

On the run from an abusive husband and feeling sick and exhausted, Sara stops for cough medicine at a store in Castle Peaks, Montana. And this one detour changes everything. At the store, Sara meets the town sheriff, and through him, eventually ends up with a safe place to stay, and the knowledge that her husband is more dangerous than she ever imagined.

“Sara in Montana” is a great love story reminiscent of a Nicholas Sparks book. The book has a thrilling edge of suspense, the characters are likable, and they are easy to fall in love with. The snowy small town setting makes it the perfect Christmas romance.

I highly recommend “Sara in Montana” for fans of romance, Nicholas Sparks’ books, or for anyone who just wants to read a great book this Holiday season.

I could get past the first chapter. The authors switches points of view about ten times in the first chapter between about 4 characters, sometimes for only a paragraph at a time. I could not stay with the story for trying to figure out whose thoughts I was hearing.

Was an interesting very quick read ...
Sara married her boss and was to leave on a honeymoon, her now hubby David's yacht. While David and his men were loading the yacht Sara didn't follow the path he told her to take and ends up on the lounge deck and witnessed something terribly wrong, that caused her to fear her life, and possibly her husband. She quietly went to her cabin, changed into whatever she could grabbed a bag with what she could and escaped, taking her husband's car. She was trying to put as much distance between her and what she witnessed as fast as she could. She feared for herself and for her sister's safety......Once Sara was well away from the hubby she had applied for an annulment online, that would allow her to divorce her husband, as they had not consummated their union, reflecting back, she thought it was him honoring her wish to be married first, but piecing things together, just made her more fearful, also making it more dangerous for David to get to her.....

She had put a good 2 days between her hubby and his men, she wasn't prepared for Montana weather, course jumping ship and escaping with her light clothing, little money, and absolutely no winter wear....Fear pushed her, sleeping in her car for short spells of time, she became very sick, she knew she needed to stop for something help with her cough at least, and found herself in Castle Peak.... her coughing was to the point of passing out from the pain and lack of getting a breath. She stopped at a little store in hopes of getting something to help her cough, so she could continue her travels. ... she wanted to put many states between her and the things she saw...

Trent, the local law enforcement was getting something warm to drink noticed the out of state tags as he was heading inside. Inside he watched Sara struggling, tried questioning her, while also helping her to find what she was looking for. Unsettled about her, and the bad conditions growing outside for travel, Trent decided to check some things and his gut told him something was not right so he went off in the direction Sara had turned , she did not get far, he found her curled up under a light blanket passed out in the driver's seat. He was able to open the unlocked driver's door, picked her up and moved her to his vehicle and headed back into town, heading to the town Doc.

As the story unfolds, the doc see's the bruising while checking her over, gives her some medicine, Trent takes her to his home, with his Aunt, instead of putting her in jail..... Trent finds out Sara is traveling without proper clothes,as well as being wanted for grand theft, but his gut is telling him there's more to her story.... he touches base with a former Agent he had trained with to have Sara's story checked out. Sara wasn't sure why but she trusted Trent, .....Trent wasn't sure why he felt so strong about protecting Sara..... Sara's story was connected to a drug ring, and people that had been wanted and watched for sometime.....

The story will keep you turning the pages, wanting justice and feeling her emotion and fear. Then there's Trent, there is a lot to love about his honor and caring, as he helps pull together info to nab the drug ring and unfolding the parts of the story that David kept hidden from Sara.
Castle Peak is a small town, where folks take care of one another.

Well done ! just isn't very long..

Second Chances are alway good

Sara was running as fast as she could away from a man she hadn’t realized until it was too late was pure evil. Trent was the Sheriff of his home town after he finished training at the FBI headquarters in Quantico. These two young people ran into each other by coincidence when Sara stopped to get some cough medicine for a bad cold she had caught. Trent just happened to be in the drug store and noticed a young woman coming in dressed entirely in the wrong clothes for where they were. He knew something was up so he investigated and found out her car was a stolen vehicle. He tracked her down and found her passed out on the side of the road from just taking the cough medicine she had bought earlier. While Trent helped his buddy Samuel, who just happened to be investigating Sara’s soon to be ex, he slowly was falling in love with Sara, who he had brought home to stay with him and his Aunt Jane. Things were fast paced and circumstances ended up bringing Sara’s sister, Grace, and her daughter, Danielle, to Montana as well. This all helped in the long run as Sara and Trent managed to pronounce their love for each other in the long run. There are more books in this saga that will hopefully, tie up everyone else’s story.

Sara in Montana is the first book I have read by Morris Fenris.

Sara is running from an abusive relationship. She gets sick and ends up having a prolonged stay in Montana. She grows quite attached to the community and the handsome sheriff, Trent.

Trent immediately notices when a stranger enters the drug store where he is hanging out with a buddy. Noticing the California plates and Sara's skittish nature, Trent decides to run her license plate number. He is astonished to find a warrant for her arrest.

Overall, I found the story okay. I was annoyed by the insta-love and insta-attraction. The mystery is what kept me invested in the story, I wanted to see how it was resolved. I was also annoyed by the curse words, and the way the relationship quickly evolved, especially since Sara had just gotten married a few days earlier (SPOILER: and was going to have it annulled), but still, you don't jump from one relationship to another. And, while Trent mostly came across as caring, he also came across as slightly controlling, which should have been a red light to someone just coming off a bad relationship.

Content warnings: running from an abusive relationship, cursing

3.25 stars - Read via Kindle eBook

This is an NTM (new-to-me) author. This is my 2nd in a goal to read six NTM male Christian fiction authors in 2023.

This novella has some suspense and intrigue along with romance and a community vibe. It’s perhaps a little too simplistic but it’s a sweet story of Christmas wishes being fulfilled in traditional and non-traditional ways. It’s quite far-fetched but sometimes that is what you need. It can be fun!

I do wish the FMC was presented a little more realistically. She went from running for her life to totally trusting a man with stars in her eyes. She came across a little ditzy at times. Her adjustment from the trauma she had been through happened too fast.

The MMC was likeable but a bit pushy. It seemed like his attraction was very physical first and foremost. He quickly began calling her pet names. Everything was so fast and a couple times there was more detail about their attraction than I wanted to read about.

I view this book more as clean fiction. I didn’t really see a strong faith element or priority of God in their relationship. Maybe others will see it differently.

"Magic... Hope! It's whats Christmas is all about"
Sometimes when I read an overly dramatic story and become emotionally involved I think of "why can't there be a book where everyone is happy and everything runs smooth?!" - Well here it is, full of love and joy. And I don't like it.

A newlywed bride on the run from her husband/boss. A small town and the sheriff himself become her shelter. All kind of drug business and the FBI involved.
A promising idea but every problem is just easily solved, there actually is no one coming for her and everything turns out magically perfect.

The characters are likeable but everyone is so incredibly protective of her and everyone is perfectly reasonable when it comes to their lives.

I like the idea of instant friendship and instant romance all in one, especially for christmas. But this is all somewhat too much.
And I can't get over this end! Why would she get married again this fast?!
I do like the message "Christmas has always meant family and sharing." but this is just too much perfection for me to handle and enjoy.

I had huge problems with this story. Jane's background was so confused that I simply gave up wondering who she was - She was married to a man who was ( aren't they all??) killed in Afghanistan and 'his parents had offered her a home after the funeral' implying that the unnamed husband's parents had offered her a home - totally logical. Then it turns out that Trent's mother had 'welcomed her sister into their home and made her part of the family' ???? I thought Jane was the daughter in law??

THEN it turns out that Trent moved back to Castle Peaks and bought his parents home from them...making Jane his sister-in-law ???

There were a couple of decidedly ropey scenes before I pulled the plug on this one well before the 50% mark. Sara stops at a drug store to buy medicine - clearly unwell and not fit to drive as well as being totally unprepared for the freezing weather. The Sheriff (do such tiny 'towns' as Castle Peaks have Sheriffs??) sees her, and lets her drive away!!

Then later - after she has been diagnosed with a chest infection and is coughing like a 100 a day smoker, he snogs her. (I cant use the words 'kiss'- there was nothing nice about it at all)

'His tongue demanded entrance to her mouth and with a sigh, she complied and gave it back.'
EUUUUUUUUWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

She has a chest infection!!!

However, the real problem with this book is the atrocious formatting. Chapters with (as usual) indents and no gap between paragraphs, other chapters with indents AND gaps, paragraphs that were justified followed by unjustified.

In the end it all became too much and I dropped out. Not recommended for anyone who likes their reading to be well-edited and presented.

Sara leaves California because of a complicated marriage. The book starts as Sara is running away, and finds herself in Castle Peaks, Montana, sick and snow everywhere. She needs medicine and stops at a service station to get some.
Trent, the sheriff of Castle Peaks just happens to be at the service station. He runs her license plates only to find the car has been reported stolen.
He takes her to a doctor, then home with him to stay with him and his aunt until she recovers.

There is a mystery to what happened in California and Trent and the police in California work to solve it. As they solve the mystery, Christmas miracles begin taking place in Castle Peaks, Montana.

I like Morris Fenris writing. I have read quite a few books by him, and have been pleased with all of them. This was a good book. I enjoyed reading it.

A Fairly Pleasant Story

I have mixed feelings about this book. What I liked about it - 1. Clean with minimal profanity, 2. Interesting characters, 3. A valiant effort at plot. What I had trouble with - 1. The timeline confused me in places, as well as some details about the characters, 2. A few actions were so inconsistent with the job the hero had, 3. Several slips on the technical side including wrong word used, misspelling typos, and repetition of specific words from one sentence to the next.
It wasn't a five star book for me, but I'm not a fan of instant relationships. That makes a romance harder for me to believe. But if you enjoy quick love stories which are sweet and clean, you will likely enjoy this one.

Sara in Montana

I really liked this story. I Would recommend to anyone to read this story. Sara was in Montana, stopped to get some cough syrup. She was so sick. When she went into the store, she wasn’t looking where she was going and ran into a man. He was a big man.she asked if there were cough meds and the guy at the counter went to help her. She left. Trent, was the man she ran into and he told the clerk , something unusual with this lady.she is sick and not dressed for Montana weather. He went to find her and she was parked on the side of the road asleep. More to come, enjoy this adventure.

Though there’s nothing really mentioned about religion or Christianity, but this is a clean read that has a feel of some Religious type books. It also has a Christmas wish type vibe to it. The story had potential to be better. The flow was a bit stop & go. The whole thing felt rushed ( from the beginning to the end) & wistfully unbelievable. The problems all solved too easily & they fell in love to easily for both being such cautious daters in their past. Both characters are likable. The wording thru the whole book seemed awkward, not having a natural “speaking” type of flow to it.

Not Christian Fiction

I thought there was a good story. Lighter weight is fine for me. But it showed up as a suggestion for a Christian Fiction book, and didn't end up that way. People are mostly pure and wholesome, but tongue with kissing isn't generally a Christian Fiction standard. That was my first clue. Still, a romance dealing with Christmas... even had a nativity scene.

The cover sucked me in...

This author needs an editor. The story actually had potential, but it very quickly became too predictable. Things fell together too easily, and the whirlwind romance (all in the span of less than 30 days) was more than a little bit unbelievable. There was absolutely no suspense what-so-ever considering its plot line hung on suspense.

but... the cover? Gorgeous.

Sara is running away from her husband to save her life.
Trent is the town sheriff and he knows fear when he sees it.
This is a romance story with suspense and mystery.
I did like Trent and his need to protect Sara. And I liked how Sara helped a person with a lot of pain with her knowledge.
A very interesting and lovely story.

This was a quick and enjoyable read. Oh, and if you don't know, this girl is beautiful. The whole town thinks so. As you can tell, that is my biggest peeve. The main plot kind of ended before we even knew it and the writing was a little juvenile for my taste. But it was still good and very quick to read.

This was an ok book but only about 61% of this is the actual book the rest is a few chapters of the next 2 books. While a Christmas story I found it lacking with a little more action.

Beautiful love story, with some amazing characters. This story delivered on the Christmas spirit. Sara showed her heart in her willingness to help the Mercers' debilitating disease. No spoiler here other than how much your book was enjoyed. Thank you, Danny Scott.

Knowing when to get out of town!

This story is refreshing because even though Sara was running away from danger, she chose to trust someone to help her. This probably saved her life. The book was well written and heart warming.

Easy read. Kinda lame and sappy. Not real life

Meh... Too cheesy for me. The first half was better than the end of the book. No desire to read a similar title or book by same author
