Rate this book
HACK IN > GO EVERYWHERE > KILL EVERYONE.

Genius programmer Evan Cole’s life was looking up…

… when something bad went down.

The headquarters at InstaBate, the nation’s go-to cheating app, was raided.

They destroyed the servers, and gunned Evan down when he tried to stop them. More than fifty million user profiles were compromised.

Kara Milton is one such user. She’s terrified that her dirty little secret will reach her family, and the fat cats at InstaBate will stop at nothing to keep the incident away from prying eyes.

But Evan Cole isn't dead--he's a vigilante pack of pixels out for REVENGE.

Seconds before dying he uploaded himself into the corporation’s mainframe. He's using 6G to travel through laptops, tablets, and cell phones to hunt his killers. This new, angry breed of cyberpunk is on a quest for the truth, and a lot of blood.

But when he appears as The Skull on Kara's cell phone, her world is turned upside down. She's compelled to help Evan get revenge if she wants her dirty secret buried. With the odds stacked against them, they’ll risk everything to protect her family, bring Evan’s killers to their feet… and an evil corporation to its knees.

I didn't even make it to the bottom of page 2 before I decided to tap out on this one. Here's why:

If this book isn't poorly translated from some other language, then this is the most idiotic, inarticulate, nonsensical writing I've ever read in my life.

Example #1:

"I don't want to be alone all by myself. Can I sleep with you and dad tonight?"

An interesting, if frequent, proposition from an eight-year-old boy with a genuine look of concern on his face. The soft, powder-blue eyes pinned around such a cherubic face was hard to refuse.

Wtf is interesting about this "frequent proposition"? Does the author know what pinned means? How can eyes be pinned around a face?? Also, "eyes" is plural, so "was" needs to be "were". And mom immediately says no to the "interesting proposition," so I guess it wasn't all that interesting or hard to refuse you fucking liar...

Example #2:

A pale, white hand brushed over his brow as his mother's voice waded into his ears.

First of all, the pronoun game is strong with this one. Second of all, voices can't wade.

Example #3: For context, mom just asked the kid to lay down. It's not stated, but I believe mom is sitting on the bed as he's getting into it. Maybe???

Rex averted his eyes to the top of his mother's legs as she slid forward and allowed him some room to straighten himself out. It seemed as if the ass inside the jeans was about to lift and exit the room.

I mean, did you just read that??? Does this little 8-year-old kid already have a male gaze so strong that he is looking at, or at least thinking about, his own mother's ass??

Example #5: HOLY REDUNDANCY and WTF???

The little boy did as instructed. Both eyelids pulled down the front of his eyes, cutting out the light flooding into the room from the hallway.

Mom stood up straight and rolled her shoulders. A flock of blood-red locks fell down her back and licked the small of her back.

Come on now, this has to be a joke...

How tf can eyelids "pull down the front" of someone's eyes??? And a "flock" of hair??? That licks backs??? Get right the fuck out with this trash!!!

Someone needs to revoke Andrew Mackay's thesaurus IMMEDIATELY. And probably his laptop or word processor or typewriter or Etch A Sketch or whatever the fuck he used to produce this pile of crap.

I was tempted to continue reading just to see how awful this gets, but I'd rather take a slap to the face from Edward Scissorhands.

Obviously, this book was independently published. But here's the kicker... not one, but TWO PEOPLE are credited as editors for this book, Ashley Rose Miller and Aly Quinn. To these ladies, I'd like to say IF YOU TOOK ANY PAYMENT FOR EDITING THIS BOOK, YOU NEED TO RETURN IT. And shame on you.

I'm going to mark this book one star even though I didn't make it through 2 whole pages because I do what I want.

Thank god I'm still able to send this back to Amazon for a full refund.

WARNING :
This book contains disturbing subject matter. It will easily push your buttons. If it does Not then shame on you!!!!

Glitch is another book that takes place in Chrome Valley. You will be introduce to The Skull (see cover, lol). Think we will see more of it in the future?

The story asks what will you do when presented with a choice. The choices made here can be extreme.

The book is well written and can be read as a standalone easily. However definitely not an easy to read book. Is very disturbing.

Soapbox:
What scares me is the material in this book actually happens in real life. Yet how many of us who know this actually do anything about. Not much.
If you are really that sick or prey on helpless people – especially children—then shame on you. If you do what is done in this book, then you DEFINITIVELY deserve to die. If in power then more so.
Sorry needed to get that off my chest.

This is my honest and freely given review. I did receive an ARC book.

How did I rate this? I absolutely liked the story (5 stars). It moved along at a good pace all the way through. The characters were interesting (5 stars). Evan is an awesome individual and Kara is so believable as a real person might be. There was a lot of violence (3 stars). The violence was extremely graphic. If gore and violence are what you enjoy reading, you will like this book. As with other books I have read by this author, the reader is left with a lot to think about.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author and was under no obligation to leave a favorable review. All opinions are my own.

This was really good. Completely different from your normal mystery paranormal. This had me captivated right from the start, how the storyline played out, the mystery to figure out, the ending was awesome and the crazy genius that wrote it. As usual, some characters from other books was included and I really like that. Connecting the two make the book seem more real. He storyline was fantastic and the characters fit well together. I always love reading this authors books. On to the next one!

Wild ride

This is a great mashup of cyberpunk and horror that hit all the right notes. Well written characters and brutal justice take center stage here. But also a story about what we will do if we get pushed far enough. I really enjoyed this from start to finish and will pick up the next one for sure!

Faced paced thriller with plenty of action. The characters are complex and the storyline is vividly written. It works fine as a standalone, but people who have read some of the author's other books set in Chrome Valley will recognize some of the characters, which makes it even richer.

Awful. Heavy swearing takes the place of good dialogue, and the descriptions of injuries border torture porn. Bailed out at Chapter Five.
