A frontier world. One Sheriff. And all the action one Spaceport can't hold.
Darklanding is the wild, wild west of known space. Sheriff Thaddeus Fry, a veteran from the war on Centauri Prime, is assigned as the Sheriff of Darklanding. It could be a do-nothing job, or it could get him killed.
With a cast of characters that includes a company man, aliens, miners, a French bartender, too many outlaws, and the town madame, there will never be a boring day on Darklanding.
The complete series, all twelve books in one package.
Scott Moon loves audio books, especially the works of George R.R. Martin, Patrick O'Brian, and Michael Connelly. He has been writing fantasy, science fiction, and urban fantasy thrillers most of his life and aims to read or listen to 100 books a year. Currently, he is a commissioned police officer serving in a street level counter drug and gang unit. Some of his most rewarding and heartbreaking work was as a detective in the Exploited Missing Child Unit. His favorite assignment is SWAT, primarily for the eighty pounds of tactical gear he gets to wear in the blazing summer heat. In 2005, he helped arrest a serial killer who had been at large for over thirty years.

I love westerns and I love SciFi so this is the best of both worlds! As usual, the characters are interesting with good backstories that are slowly brought forward. The episodic format is interesting. You can drop out for a while, then jump back in. It hits all the western and Scifi tropes, then twists them subtly, and sometimes not so subtly! My personal favorite is the pet who is much more than a pet. As a dog lover, I always want my dogs to one day start talking to me. Knowing my dogs it will be, "Treats, are there treats? More treats?" This is a great read as usual.
I absolutely love this series. When I read that it was Firefly meets Bonanza I thought, that sounds right up my ally! It is! So if you like those shows you'll love this series. Now I want to know what happens next to Sheriff Fry, Mast, Maximus et al. Also, when is it coming to a screen nearme?
Ever consider what it would be like to live and work on an another world? The day to day work of a lawman and a corporate executive full of adventure and a somtime love theme with a loveable pig-dog who farts a lot. Great read!
I read these individually as they were issued. I like the combination of all 12 together better. I'm a little unhappy that there wasn't/ isn't a second series..
Great series of books with wonderful characters. I can see Sheriff Fry walking around "playing Clint Eastwood". lol Love the interaction with the characters, action and humor.
