I don't aspire to memes - I'm more inclined to have a "hot girl summer" than getting mixed up in any type of "relationship goals".
Not that there's anything wrong with that, if that's your thing.
It's just not MY thing.
Well, it wasn't.
But then I walked into-
and then he -
and OH, my supposed "friends"...
man...
How about I just tell you everything?

Me + Somebody’s Son was a fun read. It was cute, flirty, and just what I needed. The perfect Summertime romance. I absolutely adored Haven and August. Haven was serious about her f*ck em' and leave em' ish but, August was not tryin' to hear that. He eventually wore her down and won her heart. We got to catch up on old friends from previous books. Steph, Nubia, and Jemma made a brief appearance and we get to see what they've been up to. I really hope this book is the beginning of a new Mahogany Heights series. I would love a story about August's sister. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. 🤞🏾🤞🏾 Me + Somebody’s Son was the bomb! It definitely earned 5 ⭐️s!

let's start from the beginning,,, haven is the manager at a bookstore and she goes to this flowershop to get flowers for her store and guess who works at said shop?? august! the guy she had a thing for in collage but nothing came out of it because she was dating one of his friends at the time. BUT!!!! they're still very attracted to each other now but she's only does one night stands so she tells him she's not looking for a relationship.

after one drunk painting event of a model (ehm ehm guess who's the model), he then makes her go on a date with him (for charity) and things kinda go from there. it was sooo good!!! it was so cute and hot at the same time and there were so many funny moments and i loved ittt

Christina C Jones is really a master of the short romance novella format. So much is packed in this tight and delicious story about woman falling for the florist she discovers made the beautiful arrangement her dud one night stand sends to her work (when she pitched it in the trash and went to buy her own I fell in love). I've read a few in the Heights series but will definitely be back for more.

ALSO can we please talk about August's grandma posting sexts on her FB wall for all to see? I was dying! I need her story please!

I finished so long ago but I hadn't updated it/posted my review. I have been rewatching Shippuden this past week and that practically has taken all my attention away from books? I haven't picked up anything but I'm sure I will sometime soon! I still want to do my read of Harlequin novels.

Me + Somebody's Son was epic from beginning to end. It's a romance novella of 80-something pages that will give you a love story SO GOOD. We have Haven and August who knew each other from college. Haven was dating his friend at the time but Haven knew she was dating the wrong guy! Years later, she's working as a bookstore manager and this is where the story starts. She meets August again; he's working as a florist nearby! THE ATTRACTION IS STILL THERE AND IT'S BURNING EVERYONE. Haven is done with love tho, so what could happen next?

This two are wonderful; as separate characters and together. They have so much chemistry and can't help but want to be near each other. Haven doesn't know what to do but I love that August will wait however long for her to realize he is the one for her. He just wants to go out to dinner with her, spend time with her... he won't even call those dates if Haven doesn't want to. He just wants to be in her life. I love that.

August is Haven's the one that got away, and now that they reunite, Haven's resolve about romance is getting a bit weaker. He's the only one who she thought "what could happen there?" but never really got the chance because she was dating his friend year ago. But now they are adult, and he's so fine and bigger and flirtier and sweeter. The paint class scene was EPIC. You won't stop laughing and the scream that will come out of you will be too real tbh. CCJ does it again as always. I now crave every single book she publishes and I'm just waiting for the next one.

Yeah... Somebody's Son

August was indeed somebody's son and a fine one at that. The Heights is the place to be to find a hottie, either male or female. Haven and August had a history with a friend of theirs, and that old friend was trying to be a wedge. But, hallelujah and amen, that little thing was not a hindrance. Somebody's Son is just what Haven needed to quell her angst towards men in general. The drop-ins by familiar faces were super dope! Another great love song!

The stories that have been created from the Heights gives me all the fun, sexy and authentic black vibes my heart can desire. In this read we met Haven and August. They met in college but were unable to act on their attraction because of Haven’s involvement with August’s best friend Marcus (who btw seems fun).

Fast forward 15 years later and they are both unattached and August and ready to become more than just friends with Haven.

Let me just say once outside is open again I will be attending a Sip and Paint event just to see what be happening at such functions.🧐 Cause my man August had no hesitation didn’t even have to be talked into it just bam 💥 and it was pretty 🤩. But I digress 😂.

I just love that the dialogue felt so real and made me feel like I am right there in the room as the characters are speaking. Once again CCJ had me laughing out loud and still managed to drop a gem or two off in the process about it being ok to change your mind as a woman. (Cause that is our business). 5 stars ⭐️

June “Geezy” Somers and her grandchildren are Hilarious! I love that August really feeds Geezy’s terrible behavior…I would have love to see her interact with Haven….August is just the type of guy that any girl would be attracted to…I was happy when Haven finally came around to August’s advances.

August is hot!

This was such a fun read, which is what I always expect from Christina. Everything about Mahogany Heights is #goals. I love reading about the various Black owned businesses. Haven wasn’t lovable, but she was very relatable. August was the ultimate Book Bae. I needed a light hearted love story. This book was right on time.

Destined love

I could have read 100 more pages about Haven and August. She captured our spirit. I am totally invested in this relationship like Haven is my girl. After a rough past relationship she vowed never to put herself in that situation again. August felt like Haven was the one that got away. As young college students they had a connection, but timing. Neither has ever forgotten about each other. This book was a quick snack and I laughed and cheered the characters along.

Where to begin?

CCJ is out here doing the Lord's work. This was a nice, quick read but was heavy on the awws, chuckles and the one scene that took my life. It was particularly amazing watching so many characters I already know and truly love intersect. Perfect way to start my day and I will definitely be reading this again!

This was such a cute novella! Haven has always been “the one that got away” for August—she dated his friend in college and broke his heart and they haven’t seen each other all these years later. But now Haven works at Tones & Tomes bookstore and August is the manager at Posh Petals in the same neighborhood. When Haven gets a gorgeous bouquet from one of her one night stands who hasn’t gotten the hint that she’s not interested in more, she decides to buy herself the flowers instead of waiting for someone else to do it. And there’s August, the man she would have been interested in if she hadn’t been biding her time with his friend.

Haven’s not interested in love but August isn’t going to let this opportunity get away from him. I really loved how this developed. I didn’t get Haven’s insistence that August was breaking bro code when Marcus was married and college was 15ish years ago. They’re all grown ups. All August needed to do was give Marcus a heads up—which he for sure should have done either way and I didn’t like that he didn’t do that much. This is a novella so some aspects weren’t as well developed as I would have liked—lots of loose threads—but I love the worlds CCJ has created through her contemporaries and enjoyed watching Haven give August a shot. I especially enjoyed watching her realize that her reasons for keeping things casual in the past no longer applied anymore.

Character notes: Haven and August are both Black. No ages given.

CW: heroine’s ex-fiancé cheated on her years ago, hero’s grandma has health issues requiring a caregiver, brief reference to the past death of hero’s mother

He laughed. “Don’t do that.”
“Don’t do what?”
“Act like you think I’m not going to take good care of you.”

Last night I finished a really heavy and dark romance and needed something to lighten my heart.....and this novella was perfect. It was exactly what I was craving: sweet, funny as hell, cute, and a touch steamy.

Me + Somebody’s Son is about August and Haven. They both met in college 15 years ago when Haven was dating August’s roommate/friend. Both find each other attractive in the present day but there’s a problem...Haven is a hit it and quit it woman while August is more the dating type.

I absolutely adored the writing, the chemistry these characters had, and the warmth this story brought to me. The sexy times were not super explicit but still steamy. Highly recommend!

This story was closer to a 3.5 for me. It was very cute - a fun, flirty, quick read about two old college friends reconnecting in a way they'd always wanted to but never could. What this little novella has going for it is that it delivers an abundance of laughter. There were some seriously hilarious moments that really endeared me to the characters. I did feel a bit dissatisfied with the ending though. It felt somewhat abrupt, which kind of makes sense considering the size of the book, but I felt like things ended right as I was becoming really wrapped up in the blossoming romance of the two main characters. I would really love to know more about how their relationship develops. That being said, this was another solid work from Christina C. Jones. If you're looking for a warm-hearted, romantic pick-me-up and some sincere belly laughs, this novella delivers.

As per usual with a CCJ book I was giggling, laughing, snickering right through. I loved this second chance romance between August and Haven. It was super sweet and sexy.

The banter was on point as always! Did I mention the cackling? Because yeah this was funny as hell. August and Haven were just good together. I did find the ending a teensy bit abrupt but I enjoyed this and need more stories in this world.

Also August's grandma!! We never actually meet her but she was a trip. Just hearing about her shenanigans from August's sister had me rolliiiiin'. Grandma G was living her best life, clearly LOL.

I need more Haven and August!!

What a perfect novella! Haven has been burned before so her motto is "one hit and then quit" which has served her just fine until her college ex's friend August comes into the picture.

First of all August is so dreamy, he's an intelligent, agricultural God with a giant package soooo.....AND he'll do anything to support charities that help keep kids interested in botany. Gah!

Haven tries her best to keep him at arms length but who could resist?

This novella was hot, hilarious and soooo entertaining! I would love a full length novel with these two!

Oh man, if I didn’t like novellas before, I sure as hell do now. Christina C. Jones, what the actual fuck. Girl, you are hilarious. This book was spectacularly well written, I loved Geezy and her crazy old self. August has such a beautiful name, I love his profession, he’s so sweet and he knows what he wants. And he wants Haven. January is a gem so I hope we get to see her soon. We got to hear about so many characters from her other books which I loved. It made me want to open up my own bookstore! Cuz the vibes in this was so freaking cute. And Haven is such a queen. She said I don’t need no man...but August is somebody’s son and I want him. So him she shall have. Ugh! 84 pages of pure genius wrapped in love, good humor and wonderful side characters. I honestly can’t believe this is a novella cuz I loved it so much. Gotta read the first book in the Heights now .

Should We?

While I think holding onto something that obviously meant nothing to her, I kind of get why Haven held onto not wanting to take it there with August. Yet, since she had to fight the feeling, I thought it was immature and dumb.

I liked August; give me All the nerd vibes😏. Even though Marcus was Havens ex, for even a few months, in college, he moved on, was now married with kids and needed to let the past go. I was Loving August energy when it came to how Marcus was feeling, which was 'Man, you need to move on🤨'.

I always Love when old characters from previous books show up and this was full of oldie but goodie characters.

Added humor is always a bonus, and CCJ never disappoints there. Great read. Highly recommend.

Blossoming love...

I enjoyed August and Haven's story. I think it started blooming long before they realized. I also love it when other characters from previous books are thrown into a story. It makes reading more interesting and realistic. Anytime I read one of your books and the couple lives in the Heights it gives me a great vibe. I can just imagine young African American entrepreneur couples making names for themselves and their businesses.

Keep them coming Mrs. Jones. If you never read a book by her she has an extensive catalog that you will enjoy. I suggest this one as well. Download, relax, and enjoy.

i had to make bitchy notes while reading this. this is the first book i have read that i can truly say that i did not like the FMC. I like this author's writing style tho and i will definitely read more of her books. i love when authors can make me emotional about what they've written! It's pretty much the gateway to my favorites list--
I loved August- my version in my head was so sexy and so attractive and so fuckable! I LOVED that there was book talk about a book store and book signings in this book too!!📚🌃🌟🌶️
My fave quote, because i am a smut slut- fuck you haters:
"........he put his lips to my ear to whisper some little soothing 'you've got this, you can do it, good girl'........." 🌶️🌶️🥵🥵🤤
i would recommend this book if you like penises and spice. 🍆🌶️

Somebody's Son

This was really good! I usually hate novella's especially when they're good but this?! This was so damn good! I wanted more but that's just me being greedy and longing for more. This was just enough. Idk how you even did that. It was just the right amount of everything and that sex scene? Bruh. I'm so ready for a love like this. Got me searching for flights to an imaginary location. Girl you're good .

Somebody's grown son

This book was so good. CCJ never fails. August came with his grown man flavor to get what he wanted Haven. Haven didn't know that August was who she needed. Like her friend said the other guys were not it. Sometimes you don't know what you need until it(person) comes after you. So glad Haven stopped running. Can't wait for the next release from CCJ.
