Norman read the first sentence of the letter The whole country round seems to be really greedy to hear the Word of God, many are deciding for Christ. As he read, he heard a clear voice inside his head say, That’s where you are to go. A shiver ran down Norman’s spine. He was positive God had just directed him to join C.T. Studd and his mission in the heart of Africa. That was where his life’s work lay. As a boy at boarding school in Great Britain, Norman would never have guessed where his life's work would take him. After serving in World War I, he studied at Trinity College, Cambridge, where he played a key role in the beginnings of InterVarsity Fellowship. Following in the footsteps of C.T. Studd, Norman then answered God’s call to join the Heart of Africa Mission in the Belgian Congo. A passionate yet humble evangelist, missionary, and teacher, Norman went on to lead the Worldwide Evangelistic Crusade (WEC) and helped found the Christian Literature Crusade. Pouring his heart into teaching the Bible and writing numerous books, he strengthened the faith of thousands. Christian Then & Now chronicles the exciting, challenging, and touching true stories of ordinary men and women whose trust in God accomplished extraordinary exploits for His kingdom and glory. Here is a life given to serving God and others! From sharing the hope of eternal life in the trenches of WWI to writing letters from his invalid bed in retirement, all he did was meant to show Christ to others. Have you heard of S.T. Studd? I've slightly familiar with him before this book, but now through Grubb's love and reverence for him I really look forward to reading more about him as well. But through their relationship also came a lot of conflict. A lot of this book is taken up with the resulting ministerial disputes and power wrangles. Still, it was a good book about steady humble faithfulness.
Norman Grubb is a man to be admired. However, I am not sure he can write because he was the author of Rees Howell: Intercessor. Janet Benge CAN write and Norman Grubb lived a long, fruitful, God-honoring life. He married one of C.T. Studd's daughters. As usual, this author does not leave out the difficulties and conflicts between C. T. Studd and the organization he started.
Rees Howell had a big impact on his life. It's just that the book NG wrote about him was probably not edited and rather strange.
This book discusses the life of missionary Norman Grubb. He helped create several missionary groups as well as serving in the Congo. He later married Pauline Studd, the daughter of fellow missionary, CT Studd.
