Book 5 in this exciting new world. If you like dragons and egotistical, super-sexy demigods, then this is the series for you.
Bolt
I am the son of a god. Not just any god, but the mighty Zeus.
I take after my father in many ways. I am powerful and astute. I can be ruthless when I need to be. You have to be driven and relentless when you run an empire. When thousands of people rely on you for their livelihoods. I’m still all of those things, but since meeting her, I’m broken. A shadow of the man I used to be. I’m angry. Impossible to be around, but I can’t seem to get over it…I can’t get over her.
I’m in love with a ghost.
Someone I don’t even know. This woman got her claws into me. Wove a magic spell so tightly around me that I am unable to break free. I wish I could hate her. I can’t. Not when my body and soul yearn for her. I know it isn’t real, and yet I can’t help the way I feel. There is no outlet for all of these emotions because the object of my hate, my affection, my love – real or imagined – is dead. Gone! I heard that doppelgangers exist. I never really believed it until Ashley Shaw walked through my door.
Ashley
It’s wrong to lie. My parents taught me better than that.
I realize this, but I’m desperate. I need this job. How hard can it be to work as a Personal Assistant? I can run errands and take calls. I can send an email and type up a document…slowly…using two fingers. Still, I can do it. So what if I fibbed a little on my resumé? It won’t take me long to get the hang of things, that is if I actually make it through the interview. I’m sure I’ll manage. People generally like me. I’m nice. Polite. I try.
When I see him. The man I would sell my soul for…be a PA for. I almost run away. The terms ‘dark, brooding, dangerous, and sexy’ are accurate, and yet they have nothing on him. He’s more…he’s also angry, arrogant, tortured…and beautiful. Up until today, I didn’t realize a man could be beautiful. Particularly one so masculine. Yet, here he is.
I’m so nervous I completely hash the interview. It’s for the best because harboring sexual fantasies about your boss is not a good idea. I’m shocked when I get the call telling me I have the job. I remember thinking that there had to be a catch…and I was right. There is!
No cheating! Contains hot alpha males and therefore strong sexual themes/language.

Will he see what they have before it is too late...
Oh my! Mrs Hartnady surprised me here, after her many dragon shifters and vampires tales, this one surprised me. It is a mix between office, billionaire and paranormal stories. I just loved how she gave her characters time to connect, then get along before reaching the climax of the plot. I loved loved it and I am not a great fan of rich guy/office stories. I do remember Bolt from the previous book when he was bamboozled by the harpy, how it mixed with his brain and senses. Many months later, he is still struggling, and he kind of still feels the lasting effects. Which turned him in quite a jerk, firing people or exhausting them to point of quitting. But in close contact with Ashley, he shows different colors, he is not perfect but he can be kind and caring if he puts in the effort. He is man driven by his goals, but if rightly entranced, he can alter his course. Ashley knows time is running out before her family’s business goes down, thus her need for a new job, even if she has to cheat on her resume. She is no PA material and has no hope to get the job, until the unexpected. It is lust at first sight, I am not found of women with weak knees and liquefied brain, which was how exactly Ashley reacted during her first encounter with Bolt. But being shy and socially awkward could explain it too, except it is her scorching hot thoughts which melted her wit.
This book is a long wooing story with a lovely lady not afraid to endanger her heart and the guy in his own healing process who falls for her. The paranormal side of this one tale is in the bunch of alpha males and circumstances leading Bolt to hire Ashley, outside the end, it is a cute story of a non-human male trying to move and go past his own hurt with the delicious woman who has caught his eyes. 5 stars
I was granted an advance copy by the author, here is my true and unbiased opinion.
I accidentally skipped this book and read Lord of Destiny first. The hero in Lord of Destiny was absolutely loveable that I was unpleasantly surprised with this book. I HATED Bolt. He was arrogant, self centered, crude, condescending, and overall just a mean, nasty person. Ashley was sweet, shy, kind, innocent and way too good for the doucheb@g.
Spoilers ahead.
Bolt only wanted to hire Ashley bcuz she looked like the harpy who he at one time was infatuated and lusted after. He couldn't have the harpy because she was killed after injecting him with a love-like potion/poison. He wanted to screw Ashley and play with her emotions to get the harpy out of his system so he hired her. What a d!ck! He knew she was innocent and was knowingly going to use that to get in her pants. I was just waiting/wanting for her to push him away if he came onto her. I wanted him to suffer. When she agreed to read over the non disclosure agreement about him fracking her with no strings attached, I was livid she would even consider it. I wanted to delete the book 54% in but I HAD to know what happens. Thank God Ashley had some self respect and realized how disgusting Bolt was and he basically wanted her as his whore. Later on he explained the NDA agreement but it wasn't enough for me. Ashley did push him away but I think he got off too easy. I didn't like when she slept with him without protection. He had screwed numerous chicks w nda's.. I couldn't wait for her to find out about the harpy. I knew she'd forgive him- most likely after he saved her family's business. However, I was glad he suffered.. some.. Ashley was awesome. Bolt was absolutely not. He didn't even come clean about the harpy until she figured it out on her own and he had no choice. I still rated the book a 4. I loved Ashley, the side characters, and the story kept me absolutely hooked..
The Lord of Rain demigod becomes a hero helping his brother but falls prey to an inhuman being.
Bolt had no sympathy for Lyre when his powers were taken by a harpy. He was more concerned with conducting his everyday business and didn't quite see the importance in losing ones powers. Lyre met Morgan with his harpy incident. The harpy known as Lilith/Gabby is like an addict and needs to take the powers from the demigod dragons. After she had had Lyre, she wants Bolt. She holds Morgan prisoner in exchange for Bolt. So Bolt decides to help Lyre get his mate back. But things don't go very well. Gabby injects him with her venom and he's gone. She has him seduced. Morgan and Lyre have a plan in place but are concerned about Bolt. Things aren't quite going as they thought it would now that Gabby was no longer around. Bolt's life continues but he is miserable. He lost his love. He blames his brother and his mate. He can't see his life ever being the same before his encounter with the harpy. He goes back to his daily duties and makes his employees miserable. He starts cleaning house at his newest acquisition. He even has to find a new PA and one of the candidates that he decides to interview happens to be a doppelganger for Gabby which sends him in a spin. But there is a big difference between the two and he finds her attractive. Ashley is changing jobs from working at her families bakery to something new. She just happens to submit a resumé for the PA position for Bolt. Now the excitement begins between the two of them. Things go back and forth with an offer because Bolt senses something about her. Her personality is of a good person and everything she does after he offers her the position only further proves it to him. She's a fantastic baker and he wants her to bake him his favorite treats when she starts working for him. She happens to bake him a surprise cupcake that is just hilarious. His brothers question his choice of his PA. They think that he is focusing on her because of Gabby which is further from the truth. So much starts happening between the two of them. Some of it hot, romantic, funny, exciting, past issues and new growing pains. He wants to prove something that he has Death take him to go visit Gabby who happens to reside in the underworld now because of her actions. He risks not being able to return but he gambles being Zeus' offspring to believe that he can return to Ashley. Bolt is changing his ways and the weather reflects it. He's realized that Ashley is his mate but she has her doubts about Bolt. So many surprises in this book. Charlene Hartnady did a fantastic job writing this book. It is definitely one of my favorites with the demigods. Wonderful characters, hot scenes with Bolt and Ashley, and the return of the demigod brothers. I really recommend this book to be read.
I purchased this book and also I received an ARC of this book and volunteering to leave an honest review.
Lord of Rain is the fifth delicious book in the The Dragon Demigods series. Sexy Demigod shifters who have sworn to a life alone.
That is until unsuspecting women in need fall on their radar. meet the one and their lives are changed forever. But there are dramas along the way. A fun and angsty journey starts.
While each book can be enjoyed as a standalone, it's best to read them in order to fully appreciate the rich paranormal elements and exciting themes they offer.
The characters are fun and loving, but what they discover more than they ever imagined.
We have now established a predictable pattern. I was pretty bored in this one. The bad guy is feelings really. And it followed the same pattern as others.
Sexual attraction Denial of feelings Sex Love Obstacle to love Reuniting Engagement Intro to next book
My biggest problem with the last couple of books is that she tells events from the previous book from a different perspective. So you have to read the exact same dialogue and actions but from another perspective. It’s so boring!
This story is funny and flirty. It's a very long Story with very little of the action adventure in most of the other stories, until the very end. The other shifter/ gods don't seem to be in the story very much either until the end which for me is a bit of a let down. I did enjoy the story, but it maybe should have had a little more of the other shifter gods. My favourite parts were the parts where the "guys" are there. I really do not like the overlapping stories in a series either... the whole Harpie attack part of the story is practically all from the previous story with Lyre and Morgan but he only makes a slight appearance to call a meeting... I would have thought knowing MORGAN knew more about harpies than any of them he might have asked her if his new girl might be a sister or something... but no She isn't in this story AT ALL aside from the overlapping stories. I really think it's a little lazy of the author to essentially use the same chapter to start another story... I get that events might overlap but surely it would have been better to have him recall what happened or maybe talk about it as a memory rather than overlapping stories with actually the same thing. Sorry its a pet peeve. I actually skim the repeated parts because its not exciting to reread the same thing and it actually puts me off. I guess if I hadn't read the series in order it would be exciting but I suspect most readers are reading the series in order. OK... this story has very little of the otherworldly activity until the very end really. I actually think the last 100 pages are the best part of the story. It does have some kinda funny sections. But not much action adventure you might expect from a son of Zeus. He spends much of his time in this story being human because he is afraid his human won't understand?... not really sure why he doesn't believe she loves him but he waits too long and deceives her. Oh and he has a thing about NDA's which creates issues with his girl too. I am hoping the next story is completely different as we don't have bunches of past interactions with this Demigod shifter
GOD DAMNIT. SOMEONE TAKE MY IPAD AWAY FROM ME I CANT BE TRUSTED TO FUNCTION AS AN ADULT WITH THESE BOOKS.
For real though, this was the best one yet. Every single book in this series makes me more and more intrigued with the rest of the guys. I want Death’s story! I want Stephans! I want Rage’s! I WANT TRIDENTS! They (just like her writing in general) jsut keep getting better and better.
Not only was the MC in this so freaking delicious I about drooled on my screen, but i LOVEDDDD The FMC. Dont get me wrong, I loved Ava and Shannon as well. And I liked Morgan well enough, but Ashley (or.. Miss Shaw, I should say😂) was wonderfully nerdy and flawed and wonderful. She made me laugh so hard throughout the entire story and I had some hard-core second hand embarrassment for the poor girl a few times.
Bolt was everything I’d expect out of the Son of Zeus. I really couldnt see how he was gonna come back from the whole Harpy situation, but Charlene killed it with the story telling as per usual.
Is it bad I desperately want Lyre and Bolt to have babies like Ava/Forge and Shannon/Night have? BECAUSE I DO. BRING ON ALL THE DEMIGOD DRAGON BABIES FFS NOW
Anyways. 4.5 stars. The only thing that knocked it down was that there didnt seem to be a whole lot of conflict. While the last few books were full of conflict, this one’s was very subtly. Frankly I wasnt sure where it was going for a bit there but I loved it so much it wasnt hard to just sit back and enjoy the ride.
A wonderful addition to this series of books, totally captivating read Bolt had been born as the son of a god and this had been something that he’d had to learn to live with pretty quickly especially when you know that you will be responsible for a large empire where a large number of individuals are reliant on the decisions he makes. Since the day that Bolt met Ashley, he knew there may possibly be a chance for him to change his life and the shadow that he had been living under for so long since he had been left as a partial shadow of himself. When Ashley had walked in to the office for the job she so desperately needed she knew that she was lying about some of her secretary abilities by she was just desperate enough to stretch the truth and be damned by the consequences. When she had seen the man, she would be working for as his PA she could not help but be attracted to his dark, moody persona and the fact that he’s a handsome as anything also helps if she is truly honest. This is an enjoyable read and I don’t want to spoil the plot so have not given anything away, you will have to read this enjoyable book for yourself. I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.
Bolt was infected by a Harpy & now he cannot get his life back together as he still has feelings for her even though he knows what she did. She is dead & the powers she drained have been restored but he cannot believe that he was affected so badly. He is constantly angry & has now lost his PA so his business life is a mess. Ashley works in her family business which is struggling financially so she needs to find a way to earn money to help turn it around. Despite having no experience she applies for a PA vacancy that has a great salary. At the interview Bolt sees that Ashley looks just like the Harpy & is intrigued by her so much that despite all her inexperience he offers her the job. I found myself really liking Bolt & loved that Ashley was more than capable of standing up for herself. She put him in his place & some of the dialogue exchanges were just hysterically funny. This is a great read & although it can be read as a standalone you will get the best from it if you’ve read the previous books. Bolt & Ashley are currently my favourite couple in the Dragon Demigods series. I was lucky enough to get an ARC in exchange for an honest review which in this case was easy & I’ll be waiting for the next Dragon in this series!
In the last book, Bolt was poisoned by a Harpy when he helped Lyre and Morgan. Unfortunately, this has messed with his mind especially when said Harpy died😢 It’s taken months for the effects of her poison to wear off and just when he’s starting to feel more like himself he finds himself employing a woman as his PA - because she looks like the Harpy.....almost identical😱
Ashley’s family runs a bakery and has for years. When new competition takes away their customers she has to start looking for work elsewhere and finds a job that pays well working as a PA. However, she’s not sure how she will do the job since she embellished her resume and because her boss Bolt, is the most beautiful man she’s ever seen and he leaves her tongue-tied❣️
I loved this story, it was amazing and I’m super excited to read the next one - I can already see my future now😂 I highly recommend this author and this series as it is literally out of this world 🌍 I received an advanced copy and willingly leave my honest review❤️
Dragon Shifter series. Author threw in a side of “Demi-god” for spice. Book hero’s personalities took on aspects based after their “Greek god” fathers. Can’t say that really added much for me personally.
Book’s 3-5 fall into a single overall story arch. You’ll want to flow one into the next. Not really stand alone.
Book 1. (4⭐️) Forge (Son of Hephaestus. God of fire) & Ava (down on her luck running from crime boss.) Book 2. (3⭐️)Night (Son of Hades. God of Underworld.) & Shannon, tortured soul/ recovering AA. Book 3. (2⭐️) Little Lords - book follows pregnancies of book 1 & 2 couples. Odd read. I found that it lacked a true plot payoff. And the overlap with book 4 threw me. Book 4. (3.5 ⭐️) Lyre (Son of Apollo) Morgan supernatural PI Book 5. (3 ⭐️) Bolt (Son of Zeus) & Ashley Bakery Chef Book 6. (2.5 ⭐️) Jarrod (Son of Janus) and Raven another dragon shifter Book 7. (2.5 ⭐️) Rage (Son of Ares) and Nia a hellhound. Book 8. (2.5 ⭐️) Trident (Son of Poseidon) & Zara restaurant manager
I love this series and I loved this book! Bolt has been an asshole about his brothers having relationships with humans since Forge’s story in the first book. That is, until he finds his own someone.
I love the internal dialogue of each of the main characters, and I love the bantering between them: Ashley: I can’t work for you, I’m attracted to you and it just won’t work. Bolt: yeah, I have that effect on women. Just bring an extra pair of panties to work each day and you’ll be fine
Ashley is strong, but clumsy. And she can’t help herself, she tells the truth a lot. Even when she probably shouldn’t have said anything. But Bolt finds her endearing. All in all a very satisfying read. I highly recommend the series as a whole and this book in particular.
Bolt is Zeus son his mother is a dragon shifter so that makes him a demigod and a dragon shifter. He had a run in with a harpy and it messed him up a little and he has been struggling to get back to himself. Now he need a new personal assistant so he is interviewing people for the job that is when Ashley walks into his office and she is a exact double for the harpy and Bolt thinks she maybe able to help him get back to normal. Ashley needs a job to make money to help out her parents to keep their bakery but she really doesn’t know how to do the job. And boy is she attracted to bolt. So enjoy another good read and see if the move beyond boss and employee !!
Another fantastic addition to the dragon demigod series. Bolt has been emotionally damaged during a previous encounter with a harpy and when employing his new personal assistant has to rein in all of his unpleasantness to try and win her over. The interplay between the characters is great. The shyness of Ash and the surliness of Bolt develop into a great story in the book which I couldn’t put down. Randomly I do like Death as a character and I’m so looking forward to him having his own book in the series in the future. This book is a great read and a fantastic addition to the dragon demigod series. Looking forward to the next book !!
💕💕BOOK REVIEW!!!💕💕 Who would've ever thought that Bolt could actually fall in love? Certainly NOT me! But here we are and this book is so swoon worthy! Bolt is the son of Zeus even though he's never actually met him. He's also one of the brooding members of the gang who's just getting over a tragic "heartbreak". Then enters Ashley Shaw a doppelganger to his lost love and who Bolt thinks is his salvation. As a businessman Bolt wants everything written in the fine prints of contracts, even though you can't write out how love is going to happen. Love this series every book so far is worth the read and 5 stars!
Really enjoyed the latest book for Bolt. That Harpy from the previous book did a number on him. Although Bolt is still making deals and money. He lost his assistant in all the changes and is looking for a new one. During his review of the resumes, one looks interesting from Ashley Shaw. The only issue is that she has only had one job in her life, but Bolt is curious. I missed Forge and his new family in this but all the other brothers were involved. I am a big fan of Night, Shannon, and baby Harley but glad Trident and the others were in the fun. Even Death is joining his brother Night more. Looking forward to Death’s mate. Read On!
Ashley works at her parents then realises that to keep the bakery going she has to leave. Stephen the other baker has four children with another on the way so he needs a job. She applies to be a PA at Bolt’s firm only she embellished the answers to make her sound good. When Bolt sees her he think it is the other one come back. Bolt gets her to sign a NDC Then he wants his lawyer to draw up a document for Ash to sign agreeing to accompany him on business trips in this country and wherever. Ash after reading it threatened to leave but instead the lawyer gets fired. This is a good story with twists to it can’t wait to read the next book
I love Charlene's spin on this boss-employee relationship! I definitely thought I was not going to like Bolt but for the most part he is sweet and caring. I love that Ashley sticks up for herself and doesn't compromise who she is at her core.
There is a lot of build up throughout this book. I like the drama and the dynmics between the main character, also between Bolt and his friends! There is so much build up and the steam is so thick that it makes the sex that much hotter especially the beginning of the last chapter... Wowza! Love this series!
I wasn't that in to Bolt from every book I have read I couldn't think what would make him a fun character to read about.
Ashley is the star here she makes the book great. She is so much fun! Do I love Bolt now? Absolutely Not! He is a ass and not for me. Bolt and Ashley as characters together is magic.
I was surprised I did really enjoy this book. I even had a Author Karen Marie Moning moment feeling in here. Really well done never had something like that happen to me before.
Lord of Rain: Dragon Demigods Book 5 By Charlene Hartnady Kindle unlimited purchase Ashley is trying to save her parent’s bakery and the only thing she can think of is to become a PA. She has no experience but she still tries for the job anyway. Bolt had a very bad experience with a harpy, and who walks in his office? This is book 5 of what I think is a great series of books. I would read them in order, even though each book has its one couple, it has the other characters from other books in it.
I didn’t know how things would go for Bolt and it took a while for me to get into the book. At first I liked the plot but then it started to sound familiar. I don’t like fifty shades of grey not the book or the movie, but I’m familiar with the plot line. So it was a little upsetting that this was mimicking it, at the very least it was still about dragon shifter/demigods.
I liked Ashley but sometimes I wonder if she was really a teenage girl with how she thought things through.
Another great book in the series Bolt is still recovering from what the Harpy did to him When he advertised for a PA Ashley applies even with her being a pastry chef in her family business She is a Look-alike the Harpy & Bolt takes her on even with her lack of experience I must say that out of all the characters that are in the books Death is my favourite even if he not fully one of the group but he will help them where he can can't say much as it would be a bit off a spoiler
It's Bolt's turn to find his mate. He is having a hard time getting over the harpy that poisoned him. He finds a woman who looks just like her named Ashley. He then hires her to be his PA. He thinks that he can use Ashley to get over his prior feelings of love/lust. But they start having real feelings between them. So what happens when she finds out the truth?
Ashley loves her family bakery, but the business is in trouble
Bolt still isn't in the right mindset after what that harpy did to him. He was always angry and frustrated. His long term assistant quite. Leaving him to deal with too many things. He needed a replacement and quickly. Ashley needed a high paying job to help her families business. She was a pastry chef, but branching out could be the answer.
I don’t normally write reviews on the books I read but this one left me adrift. The protagonist has a water ability discovered when she was drowning as a child. Nothing else is mentioned about it anywhere else in the book. It could have been developed into something of an adult event. Sad. I waited. This leaned more towards contemporary fiction than the tiny bits and pieces of the paranormal/fantasy that it could have been. I still enjoyed the storyline immensely.

Ok this boo, was Awesome!! Hilarious!! Zero % boring and the whole story was EPIC!!! I looooooooooove it😍😍😍😍😍😍 another thing that i like much much more is the book cover is way much better then the first 3 covers and book # 6 is such a sexi man and the cover is very nice! I can't wait for the next book!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤💜💜💜💜💜💜
I am really enjoying this series! Lord of rain is another great storyline with characters you can’t help but love! It’s also enjoyable to have the continued interaction from the characters in the previous books. Already ordered Lord of destiny and can’t wait till it gets here!
I absolutely loved this book! Bolt and Ashley might be my favorites! I’m not sure though because I have loved them all so far. I loved loved loved the humor in this book. Ashley had me cracking up and she was just so adorable. Bolt finally got his closure and his healing through Ashley. I can’t wait to find out what happens next in this series with Stephan! I am really loving this series!
The story was good. The characters sucked you in. I have been reading the series and been only so patient. Couldn't wait to read this book. It definitely keeps you enthralled, since the main character in this book is fighting his feelings. You are rooting for him yet at points but also want to smack him. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
