Very opposites attract

Annie is such a cool person. I liked her love for all things vintage. I used to wish I'd been born in the fifties because I loved their fashion. Dex is someone I had a lot harder time connecting with. He was so arrogant and determined to get his way. That personality rubs me the wrong way and I struggled to see passed it to his good parts. Annie did eventually get through to him on some things and I loved his grand gesture near the end, so I have hope some of that arrogance has sloughed away. The story was sweet and the relationship felt like a slow burn even though it actually happened rather quickly. I enjoyed Auntie M and wish we'd gotten a little more of her in the story.

Cute!

I loved the big band music, Annie’s old fashioned clothes, and the potential for flirting and drama as Annie and Dexter both tried to distract each other.

Annie was spunky, and despite his business pursuits, Dexter Bolt had a heart of gold. I loved watching him become an even better man with Annie’s influence.

This was a fun story that made me smile and want to go dancing!

Annie and Dex are nothing alike - true opposites, Annie loves everything vintage, old time and retro; Dexter loves progress, advancement, city scrapers... But life throws them together, each of them fighting against what the other holds dear. And they really don't like each other 😁. Dexter was not very lovable at first, he had somehow lost the right priorities in life. But I liked how he gradually changed and became a better person. And Annie was able to see his perspective and accept his modern outlook to life. At the end both of them made some compromises and both of them learned to appreciate the other. So for me this was a cute hate-to-love story. ❤️
Narrative: 3rd person following Annie and Dexter
Religion: none
Sensuality: squeaky clean

What happened?

Disappointed in this book. It is like the author had to get personal points out to the reader. If you don't help the homeless you are a horrible person. Cyber bullying. Code violations on a apartment the owner knew nothing about? Seriously? The only thing wrong is not doing their due diligence. Romance books is NOT to push political agendas. It is an escape. A happily ever after. I shouldn't be reading a book and forgetting the plot because of a liberal viewpoint. It almost ...since I am reading this book online I am unbeknownst to me I am being bullied for not having the same viewpoint. (That sentence was way out there and ridiculous.) So. What is the plot in the book again? Lying? Deceit?

I wondered...

When the intro claimed 5 hours to read, I thought, ‘How can a simple romance take 5 hours to read?’
Turns out it’s simple, really. Just drag on and on and on, not really going anywhere, jump from here to there and back again, and after a good 5 hours, you’ll get your - presumed - hea. I say ‘presumed’, because at the 66% point (when I should have been so invested I couldn’t put it down), I found I COULD, and DID put it down, quite happily. The relief was akin to finding that an annoying neighbor has moved out in the night.
This was not a romance I could enjoy, and not one I could recommend.

Delightful!

This darling romance features Dexter Bolt and Annie Reynolds. What starts out as tricks and manipulation ends in an unexpected delight. Although they both have different motives for spending time together, Annie and Dex can’t help but fall for the other. Things come crashing down when the truth for their motives is revealed. It’s hard to know just what is real and what is faked.

A vintage proposal, not!

Dexter has a lot to learn. He’s smug and confident. Too much so. Can he become the man he should be? Annie is smart and likes history. She works hard and loves her family. Can she accept Dex for who he is? Can they learn to work together? A couple of devious people get bitten by the love bug, or the moonlight serenade. This is a fun story. I enjoyed reading how Dex and Annie got together.

Interesting

Didn't like Dexter at all to begin with. Not too keen on self absorbed self centred jerks. Nice to see the changes take place. Like Annie's Aunt, and her 'take' on life and memories. Was an interesting read, with a different mix of circumstances.

Excellent

There couldn't be two more opposite people than the two of them! They each have their own agendas and will fight til the end. Sometimes the very thing you have becomes the thing you love most.

Honest review

This was the 1st book authored by Ms. Day I have read, well partly read. I stopped 48%. I like the story line, but the 4 characters lacked personality i.e. emotions and thoughts. The male primary, the reason I have up, I found to be arrogant and narcisistic.

This book didn't unfold like I'd anticipated and I appreciated that there was more character growth/change than can be the norm in books like this. It was a nice read.

I loved this book! She so fiercely guards the past, and he stands for moving forward and embracing the future. What a clash!! Side note- they learn to get along quite well.

"Murmuring noises spread like spray paint, quickly tagging the whole room."

I loved the metaphors sprinkled throughout the pages. They were as descriptive as they were entertaining.
I enjoyed the banter between Dexter and Annie immensely. Their attraction to each other was relatable and believable.
I didn't feel that Dexter's competitive nature towards his brother was explained as well as it could have been. He sounds arrogant when explaining to Annie that he must have the larger house. But that contradicts several of his other character traits.
