12 Murders Till Christmas

Rate this book
Every homicide detective's worst nightmare is to get a note that says "I will kill one body a month unless you stop me..." Detectives Nick Rudd and Duncan Crane of the NYPD got that note one cold day in January and they were now being forced with the impossible task of racing against the clock to stop a deranged serial killer from taking out half of New York. With no real victim pattern, no evidence, and nothing to lead them in a solid direction, the detectives were at a loss, but Detective Rudd wouldn't give up.

Working around the clock, Nick Rudd was determined to stop this deranged killer and to do that, he had to figure out why they began in the first place. At the same time, he was dealing with his own family problems, and the realization that his best friend and partner, Detective Crane had gone dirty and was now working for the biggest drug lord in New York City. With all that on his plate, it's a wonder he's able to get through the day in one piece, let alone solve a homicide.

The only people he can rely on are his sister, Stella who adamantly hates Duncan, and his friend and developing love interest, the medical examiner, Dr. Kate Alexander. If it weren't for the two of them, he'd fall apart completely. Everyone expects Nick to fix things and usually he does, but he often struggles to get through the hard times just as any human would.

A Single father of five, a brother, and a detective, Nick Rudd takes his job very seriously, and he's a by the book cop. He loves hard and he will stop at nothing to solve the case. As the victims pile up and Nick is struggling to work the case and keep Duncan from destroying not only his career, but Nick's as well, things hit a little too close to home and Nick is faced with the hardest loss any cop should ever have to deal with. The question is, will he be able to come back from this loss or will it completely shatter him and cost him everything?

I'm kind of in the middle about this one.

Firstly... I wonder if this was proof read before publishing as there was quite a few spelling mistakes and added words where there shouldn't have been? I know this can put people off of a reading a book.
Next I don't think I've ever cried over a detective book before. This one broke my heart!! If this to do with children upsets you please do not read this book.
Lastly, some of this story annoyed me a little more than I'd have liked... Duncan seemed to be a totally idiot honestly & I don't know how Nick put up with him even after knowing him so long! It does make a story interesting when you have an annoying/hated character though that was a pretty good call.

Don’t Bother

Even at under 200 pages this book is way too long. It’s repetitive, the characters are underwhelming and one dimensional. The writing is simplistic except when Morin tries to use words she clearly doesn’t know. For example, the word she needed instead of “pension” is “penchant.” All it takes is a dictionary. The plot also does not hang together as the action finally starts to unfold. And, on top of everything else, someone needs to edit or at least proof the book. There are places where it is truly unintelligible.

I wanted to love this book for another series to add to my TBR, but it is truly a bit forced. Some of the events and timeline following them are unrealistic. All of the critical pieces for a solid storyline and long lived series are there. I believe if one major outcome was removed, I would have given this book a full five stars.

I am hopeful the cons are simply early writing for a maturing author! Looking forward to reading more.

The story line was good. However, there were a lot of basic spelling and grammar errors that should have been caught in editing. Also the dialogue got a bit repetitive. That being said, I’d read more stories from this author in hopes that the technical side of writing gets smoothed out a bit with practice, because the story part was entertaining.

a good read

It was a good read however there was a lot of spelling mistakes and wrong word mistakes in this book. Plus for me sometimes it seemed unfinished. Where did Duncan go before the killer got to him. How did the killer find him. Things like that. Some of it just didn’t knit well together for me. But it wouldn’t stop me reading more of this authors work

I purchased this book from the lovely author herself. I would really like to give this more stars, however the copy I bought had SO many typos. It got repetitive at some points to where I skimmed over some of the pages. I did like the characters, I would read the next book. I just hope the next one has less typos and repetitive sentences. Thanks for the storyline and the characters.
