Assassin In my world, you need to be the biggest and baddest in order to survive and I'm the biggest and baddest there is. Men fear me as if I am death himself and women want me as if I am a gift from the gods. I am the great elf Assassin and the last of my kind. So, what's my secret to surviving in the Locke? It's simple: don't form attachments and never get involved in other people's problems. I've lived by those rules for centuries. But, one chance meeting with a doe-eyed little girl changes everything. One decision sets me on a cataclysmic journey.
Lilly Safe, predictable, boring Lilly. That's what my friend calls me. She also says I’m the last living twenty year old virgin. She may be right. But all of that changes when I get one night with a handsome stranger. What could go wrong?
One Decision alters their future. One Decision sets their path. One Decision may save their world.
This is the complete story. This book contains sex and strong language and is not recommended for readers under 18.
The plot was amazing the battles between all the kingdoms and the characters in name only were awesome. But Lilly was something else. Knowing that the dude that knocked her up was taken she still let him have sexual relations with her and then went to have a pity party for herself ONLY because Assassin walked in on her and she didn’t want him to think she was a hoe. Honestly if these guys here human they wouldn’t even waste their time with her. I just don’t understand how you can proclaim to love someone the way Lilly says she loves Assassin but then lay down and allow another guy to perform oral sex on her. The guy in question did terrible things including rape and murder the people that she cares about. And then goes “Yeah I love you but not the way that I love Assassin” apparently the love you have for Assassin ain’t shit. Then after she confesses to cheating she’s surprised when Assassin doesn’t immediately welcome her with open arms. “Is this one mistake greater than our love?” Like wtf? THAT’S WHAT CHEATERS SAY. It was just one mistake, our love is greater than this. Yeah well if your love was so great you wouldn’t have done it in the first place. And the way she went around drooling over every not-ugly guy she met was weirdos hell. Like every dude she did this with I thought there was gonna be another love interest. At first I thought like maybe they were giving off an aura or something that made her attracted to all of them but it was never mentioned. Like one sentence she’s talking about her deep love and feelings she had for Assassin but then in the next sentence she bumps into some other male and then she all turned on and she’s “tingly” down there. Like what? This was a love triangle but it really should’ve just been a love point. The other two points shouldn’t have even been options. One was in a whole relationship that he wasn’t willing to leave and wanted you to be the side chick and the other was going around killing and raping innocent people. All the Assassin did was lay his life on the line to keep you safe. I’ll admit she did some nice things within the kingdoms but the forced naivety and the stupid decisions she made throughout the book made me not like her at all. I honestly think Assassin deserves someone better than her, and because of that the ending was meh to me. I was honestly okay with her being dead. That’s how much I didn’t like her. And you know it’s bad when you prefer the secondary and background characters over the main ones. Like keep the main characters but give them a personality change.
This is the book for you if you want a Indecisive MC and a book that is a YA on steriods.
Very confused to what kind of genre this fits into. I finished the whole book but was completely baffeled by the MC actions. It seemed like one of those YA books I would of read years ago when I was 13. Even then it was not my cup of tea. The indecisiveness of Lilly was the reason I stopped reading the book 5 times and contemplated just reading something else.
I only completed the story as I was curious to what Lily decision would be. I will say it was expected but unexpected. Overall the author had a good basess. But some issues with flow. Language used would verge on being old English flow but have the Characters from the Locke using words like baby or babe. Seemed a bit weird as initally the characters seemed to talk differently. The consistency there needs to be worked on.
Lily's character kind of fell a bit flat for me. I didn't believe in her strength. It just screamed 'damsel in distress who is strong? But not strong?' It was a bit too unrealistic in the sense that yes her kindness is great but I don't think much ideally is achieved like that.
I read another review before this that stated that it was too much even for a fantasy. When I read that I thought "How can something be too much? It's fantasy?" But now I completely understand that point. Lily was a Heroine was too indecisive, naive? And was a lot more bark than bite for me .
He relationships with the males baffeled me. I hated the indecisiveness. I felt like it was too reverse harem for me and I feel like with so much effort put in with all these other realtionships it should of just been done that they have a polyandry plot. I'd rather there be a reason for the indecisiveness than her constantly being attracted to everyone.
I give it a 2.5 really for everything and a 3 for keeping me somewhat entertained.
Nothing Lilly does in this book makes sense. She falls in love with every male she meets. Has sex with them or wants to have sex with them and then doesn't get it when her "one true love" gets upset. The writing of this character was TERRIBLE. That aside, the plot was outstanding. Read it for the plot. Ignore Lilly if you can. She's unlikeable.
The author takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions making you love and hate then hate and love. The Assassin, Dark King and Rykan all had moments I loved in their story with Lilly! Well done
This is one of my favorite authors but this is by far the most depressing fantasy book I've ever read. I liked Lilly at first but she soon became insufferable. The constant sacrificing & self importance was tiresome. Lilly getting hot & bothered by every man ruined the idea of this great love between her & assassin. I hated that avalia just had to be in love with him too. Lilly was a terrible mother & spouse. I assume this book was originally broken up over a series of books because Lilly being captured over & over is a lot to read in one book. Lilly reaction to Medina when they were reunited was idiotic. The ending was disappointing. A story about a mixed black girl that has been ridiculed & abuse her entire childhood gets to go to this mystical land with all kinds of creatures & magic where she also gets abused & ridiculed. In between the abuse she finds love with a special man but is horny for a few men. She sacrifices herself & leave her kids motherless for a place where she's been kidnapped several times. Black girls enduring abuse & STILL sacrificing for the greater good is NOT heroic. I mean you would never think a black woman wrote this. Its shocking because it started off so promising but segues way into torture porn & pretentiousness.
Twists and turns galore but I wouldn't have it any other way. I love how the author mad Lilly human in her cheating and also allowed her to have other lovers and love scenes with other men in the book. Its more realistic. Every other romance book I read it's like one and done. That not real life hunty.
Loved this book well written and the characters were believable! Lilly and Assassin's story was intense swoon worthy and nail biting adventure! Thank you Tiya Rayne for being a great storyteller and an exceptional author❤
Sooooo.... This was...Not the worst. I did really enjoyed reading most of the time. They are many inconsistencies in the plot, especially the part about how they were all played so easily by traitors and spies, and never try and find tgem. This was just too easy. Lilly was an interesting character despite how stereotypical she was (Chosen one and all that ish). I wasn't even THAT bothered with how every freacking body reacted towards her, or how she ended up teaming with some of very despicable people that got 'redeemed'. What irked me is the automatic love pairing that had me rolling my eyes. And what I hated the most is that stupid lame ass love triangle by the end of the book. The whole thing dragged forever, I found it so unnecessary, except it made Lilly look so dumb and I couldn't feel for her 'dilemma'. I never bought into that sob story and despite what Lilly was, I rolled my eyes how easily she did. N was just awful and I gagged when Lilly stated that except some little annoying thing, she was almot happy or whatever. Ugh!!! I hate, hate, hate 'love' triangles so so much. I get all the explanation the witch did about nothing to be ashamed, and it would have rang true, and made for quite anx interesting twist to have her own her feelings and have the 2 ou 3 of them. Like an actual positive love triangle rather thab the tired antagonistic cliché one. So it just made Lilly annoying and the whole story weak. And since the whole thing was pretty thin, with this universe being a very unoriginal replica/amalgamation of every other stereotypical fantasy universe... The whole vision at the enf had me side eyeing the hell of that particular plot 'twist'. Like I get how thing happened between Assassin and Lilly was unorthodox. It was a bit cray, but Assassin was none the wiser, he didn't know and genuinely took care of her without ulterior motives. And then he cut back on going to see her, and when it happened they were on some more even level (power balance wise) and the way it played out kind of make it less problematic. Now with that vision, she does know, which makes it very creepy.... Like they are FAMILY!!!! So this is a big NOPE for me. I am NOT rooting for THAT. I think wanting a HEA for everyone, and maybe some ofther very bad book inspiration, made the author push this twist, which only makes that character look desperate and bad. It's a pity cause I very much liked her...
That was one of the most enjoyable stories that I have had the opportunity to read. The writer gives us a story that spins like a saga meant only to be enjoyed by those who like a good storytelling. This was a GOT in all its glory and then some. I loved the fact that you are to mix a little of the old with the new. Also that we get a heroin in Lilly that's not perfect and you can relate to on so many levels. This was not only a story of 💘 ,forgiveness, good triumphing over evil but what true love is and what it means to be a family. There are so !any wonderful moments in this story and there are also some laugh out loud moments . Times when you are going g to give a big sigh, a loud scream, and cry 😢 some tears. Overall this was not only a story with an excellent cast of characters but this is all around just good writing.Loved the bonus chapters, would so love to see Nevy get his second chance.
I initially did not want to read this book. I looked over it several times before saying, " why not. " I'm glad I took a chance. This was a great novel and as long g as it was, I hate that it ended. I would have loved to continue reading about Lilly for another few hundred pages. I hope there is a follow up to her story. I want to see how she adjust to being with her family and in the Locke again (slight spoiler). I also want to see how she and Azreil adjust to being a unit and all that comes with that entails (another slight spoiler). I also hope the bonus chapter becomes another novel. I can't believe I'm saying this but the villain deserves a second chance( dang, another slight spoiler). I'm gonna stop now before I spoil the entire book. Please read. It's worth it. I wish could rate this higher than 5 stars bc it's worth it. LILLY IS A GREAT AWESOME FANTASY ADVENTURE READ! You won't be disappointed. 👏👏👏👏👏
I love stories like this, and to have AA characters throughout was an absolute plus. Although Lilly got on my nerves at times with her "feelings" for everyone, I did love her. I had to take into account that she's young, hasn't had many friends or a social life. So having mixed feelings at times is understandable, I suppose. Assassin was borderline perfect from day one. His personality, his strength, his heart... all pretty much swoon worthy. From the moment he found his Little Human, I was hooked. The story was close to perfect, a little dragged out here and there with Nevy, but I still enjoyed it from start to finish. Especially the finish. I had a feeling Azriel would get his HEA. Thanks for making this one long, fantastic book. Reading straight through was great. I'm even interested in ( insert eye roll😊) Nevy's story.
Omg!! I saw this book on Facebook and thought hey why not. I'm happy I did give it a try. I was hooked on this book since page one. I seriously couldn't put the book down. I ignored my husband to I can see what's going to happen next. I had mixed feelings with Lilly. There was a lot of back and forth on her feelings which I get she's the result of when a child is picked on most of her life but I can't lie it was making me angry with her. But she has a wonderful heart. A beautiful person inside and out. Now Assasin is my kind of man. Through the whole book I just wanted to know what was he going to do next. I truly did love this book Tuesday action. The chemistry of all the characters. Hope there is a next book!
I've read countless BWWM novels on KU, some of them from Tiya. The story/plot alone for Lilly is one of the best, if the not the best, I've ever read in this genre. No one is writing this kind of fantasy, at least not well, and I found myself wanting more even after 900 pages.
The book would have easily gotten 5 stars, but it was VERY HARD to get past all the spelling/grammar errors. I know no one's perfect, but this book really needed grammarly and is the only reason why I couldn't give it higher than 3. I really look forward to reading Nevy's book, but please please PLEASE, for the love of all that is holy, edit the book before publishing. I'm begging you.
The world building. The Romance. The SEX. The action and adventure. Everything any book worm could ask for and more is in the series. The characters are all to human (or not LOL) and flawed. Yet you love them and root for their success because the author unpacks their stories in such a way that we can't being pulled into them. Nothing is black and white, good and evil. This series is everything that life IS but also everything we escapist readers hope life will be. Sooooo worth the time to read it. Can't wait for the next story. Just like I'm waiting for the next story in this author's CHURCH series. It's official, Tiya Rayne is a fave and I am addicted.
My sister recommended this book to me. This is a wonderful story absolutely fabulous book. This is not usually my cup of tea having said that I've been up all night and morning literally reading this book 🙂. The book starts off with an elf (a Assassin) who is saved by a little girl Lilly 😍 and my love affair with this book begins. Lilly is a wonderful person she hasn't had an easy life and all she really want is to truly be loved for herself. Then I realized that this young lady is the same author that wrote the book Hawk another great book. The flow of this book is wonderful the characters are memorable it is definitely an adventure worth taking. As always it was a joy and absolute pleasure reading this book terrific job 🙂.
When I say I love her books, I mean that. Never any duds. I don't even like paranormal books, however if it's Tiya...I'm willing to take the risk. And P.S. I wish she could give classes to other writers about how to write build up, layer ing in the attraction/draw the characters over time, interacting, how the characters process the attraction that leads to the hot sex scenes. One of the few authors that I've read that know how to do it. Her storylines, progression of who the characters are and how they come to be who they are is always awesome. Love how she always keeps you engaged, her books are addictive once you start to read. Love your books, can't wait for Nevy and other contemporary romances you have....We need more!😁
This is a fresh new take on the faery/other realm. And, I thank the author for including characters of varied ethnicity. I’m a reader of paranormal fiction and run into the same plot lines often- it gets boring (and expensive)! This author builds a grand adventure- good back story, romance, sex, evil and all the necessary twists to keep it interesting. So what- there are a few grammar errors (reviewers continue to point this out.) But I’d say they really are few, and they are forgivable (as compared to other more expensive books I’ve read). I feel you can tell this author really commits to the story: middle to end. I truly hope she continues with this world, the end teaser was too good to stop there! Well done and well read!
Okay. I have to start by saying that this book has, by FAR, the most error of any kind you can possibly have in a book. I mean it is mind boggling.🤯 However, if you can see yourself past all of the errors, this is a phenomenal book! The story is amazing and I absolutely LOVED it! I am SO glad I was able to sift through the errors because there was definitely a diamond in the rough! I ABSOLUTELY recommend this book and I will definitely read it again and again! Phenomenal story, robust characters, amazingly imaginative in every way! And the ending culminated BEAUTIFULLY! Kudos to the author for creating such great work. Now if you could fix the errors... TEN STARS!!!
Lily has such an intense relationship with her guardian angel that she never new she had. It seemed as if everyone that encountered Lily in the Locke realm was drawn to her. Where as in the human realm she was treated as if she had the plague, loved the contrast. Lily’s superpower was her ability to endure whatever life threw at her. When Lily sacrificed her life brought tears then I got to the end and she was alive , whew that was close. Absolutely adored Uncle Buddy’s down to earth common sense. 💕 Will Avalia and Nasir’s book be forthcoming? Inquiring minds want to know! 🙄 This story comes to life. Next to Alpha it’s my new best story!
It’s crazy because I first read this as a series. This would’ve been my 5th time reading it. I went looking for the series wishing there was more to the happy ending. Anywho I went to re-download the first book when I noticed that the books have been condensed into one complete novel. This is such a beautiful love story. The best part is the end. I can't wait for the new release. No spoilers.
Keep doing what you are doing. I've read every book you've written multiple times, and you have an intricate way you tell your stories. Thank you!!!
There are too many great things to say about this book. I started out with just part 1 but fortunately I found this complete series. It only took me 2 days to read cause I could not put it down. There were so many twists & shocking moments that my nosey behind had to keep going just to see how the situation turned. The ending was not at all what I expected & made me mad for a bit but it made total sense. I read this through Kindle Unlimited but I plan to purchase this my kids can experience this journey once of a decent age. Pure Brilliance!!!
4.5⭐️ First of all Uncle Buddy is the truth!!! Lilly is Gangster! From her BB gun busting those shots to challenging Kings! Lots of grammatical errors, and even though they are noticeable the storyline, this world, is not lacking in imagination or description. I am highly enjoying this book. There is something that confuses me though and that is why at 60% of the book and she has not mentioned Nery not one time. I throughly enjoyed this read and I look forward to reading Nery’s book if he has one.
I give this a five star because it's the best dam book I've read in a while ... everyone of the love spices wrapped up in one love story ... Romance , love suspense , thriller , horror , grief , adventures that kept me on my toes from start to finish also I love the fact that it got over 700 pages ... love to have a good read ... a good read to me is 3 to seven hundred pages a whole saga wrapped up in one unexpected outcome ... which we can have an update on Nevy
I loved the story but honestly seriously got on my nerves the majority of the book. I loved Assassin's character and I was so mad what Lilly let the disgusting Navy sexually touch her when she was supposed to be in love with Assassin, that I did not get. But I guess she kinda redeemed herself towards the end even though she was my least favorite character. The only thing I liked about her when she wasn't being stupid was her kindness and willing the help others, she went to far sometimes but other than that good read. I was team Assassin the whole book.
This book was unlike the few paranormal ones I've read before. The realms were each headed by Kings or Elves. Interesting. The Dark Knight aka Nevy rules the Northern Kingdom which he has stolen. Queen Avalia (elf) rules the Elven Kingdom. The ruler of the Southern Kingdom is King Bartus (traitor) with his son Prince Kykan. The East Kingdom has King Artimus and King Fisgal rules the West Kingdom. This is the longest book I've read this year and it completely held my attention.
I picked this up with kindle unlimited as I like the author and was interested in her early work. This story is a very intriguing idea. It's also got a few grammatical and spelling errors. I would love to see this series cleaned up of errors then perhaps edited down a bit cause I really enjoyed the concept and the characters but at times it seemed as though it would all collapse on itself with so much going on. I can see with her more current work how much the author has grown from when she wrote this series.
Great world building. Due to an amorous encounter with an immortal Human Lilly finds herself in a fantasyland of elves, witches, fairies, immortals, other magical and non-magicals. Kingdoms are divided and on the verge of war. She builds friendships as she learns this world and a family of disparate beings. Along the way she finds love, helps build an army and is involved in war.
This was a complete story with intrigue, side plots, and great characters. Enjoyable and entertaining read.
This book had me HOOKED!!!!! So many times you either get great characters but the plot somewhere down the line falls through. Other times you get a great plot but lacking characters. This book has such amazing characters and such a great plot. I am thoroughly impressed with this author. Yes, there were some grammatical errors but unless you are a grammar Nazi it will not deteriorate from enjoying this book. As an African-American female that also happens to be from North Carolina I loved the female lead.
As always well edited, great storyline, great characters. This book was really amazing!!! I loved the story and the depth of each character. Love is never black-and-white and in the story it’s proven. Lilly’s Character develop slowly and there are times when I just wanna shake her. However, she finds her self and she saves others along the way. Very very steamy got to give her that but the book itself was great!
