I have read a number of Madeleine Albright’s books in 2012 I read “Prague Winter: Personal Story of Remembrance and War 1937-1948”, and in 2018 I read “Fascism: A Warning”. I realize I somehow missed reading her 2003 memoir “Madam Secretary” about her time as Secretary of State (1997-2001) and before that the United States Ambassador to the United Nations (1995-1997). I will quickly remedy that oversight. The book I just read “Hell and Other Destinations: A 21st Century Memoir” covers her life after being Secretary of State to the present time.
The book is well written and researched. I am amazed at Albright’s energy. She has managed to do so many different things in her later life from writing books, lecturing and book tours, Professor at Georgetown University, chair of the Albright-Stonebridge Group, serving on many boards in the United States and for the United Nations. She states she enjoys most the postgame diplomatic analysis. The book contains humor, and I found that Albright was as hard on her own performance as she was on critiquing others. In 2012 she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.
I read this as an audiobook downloaded from Audible. The book is thirteen hours and twenty-four minutes. Madeleine Albright does a good job narrating her own book. Listening to her tell about her life was like I was having tea and a chat with her.

My final thoughts about Madeleine Albright's powerful memoir Hell and Other Destinations: A 21st-Century Memoir first has to be how much I enjoyed her wonderful and expressive writing as well as her delightful and sharp sense of humor. Ms. Albright has long been a person that I have followed and while I realized that after she left the State Department in 2000, she remained very active and was seen often in the public domain, I had no idea of the depth of her involvement throughout the world in trying to better this world. A lot of the emphasis of this memoir was Ms. Albright's efforts to remain relevant and contribute where she could with her experience and expertise. I felt that she allowed us to see a vulnerable side of her that perhaps before has not been so apparent. And I am looking forward to following Madeleine Albright and her future endeavors.

A wonderful memoir worth reading not only for the insight into Madeline Albright's life and thinking but also as inspiration for those who need a push to speak up. Yes, she's right- there is a special place in hell for women who don't help women. This doesn't btw mean that women who vote for men are condemned. It's aimed at the mean girls (you know who they are). Albright, a deeply serious woman has a sense of humor not only about the world but also herself. She's committed, she's thoughtful, she's set a great example - and she's willing to let a little air out of the balloon. Thanks to Edelweiss for the ARC. An excellent read.

When asked if she agrees with the premise of the Iraq war, Albright said, "I personally felt the war was justified on the basis of Saddam’s decade-long refusal to comply with UN Security Council resolutions on WMD (weapons of mass destruction)." And yet in this book she claims she was against from the beginning. Now, almost everyone was for the Iraq war at the time, I was all for the war, and I was six, but that's also why I wasn't in charge of policy decisions. More importantly, I also have not engaged in revisionist history at best, or downright lies at worst, like Ms Albright. I point this out as it is emblematic of the rest of the book, where she seeks to cast herself in only favorable lights. All throughout she references her friendships with an unsavory cast of characters from Bernie Madoff to Harvey Weinstien amongst others while claiming she had no ideas about their dark sides. She is therefore either naive or a liar. In every instance she tries to look her best, understandable to some degree, but unrealistic over a long career. That's what she is I suppose, a political careerist chameleon who will say or be whatever she thinks will get her the best press. This comes off as entirely fake, self-serving, and one dimensional, I can only assume it was written to attempt to cement herself in history and as a cash grab. Perhaps worst of all, she skips over the only interesting part of her life, the only reason shes famous, that of her time as Secretary of State. Unconscionable.

One of the best books I've read this year. Albright is brilliant - articulate, informative, and able to see the humor in situations calling for it. At the present time when the veneer of civility is so thin it might as well not exist, she gives us respectful if forthright views of people she has known, problems she has solved or helped to solve, and conditions under which she has worked. Highly recommended for anyone interested in government or in whining about the (my own) aging process.

Madeleine Albright is an amazing woman, a staunch supporter of labor and civil rights and democracy. In this memoir filled with interesting anecdotes the octogenarian discusses her Czechoslovakia ancestry and background as well as the diplomatic positions she has held in both government and the private sector. Most people know of her time as Secretary of State. However, she has not faded into the woodwork since then. Her consulting company, the Albright Group (TAG), worked with Merck to help countries such as Botswana, Romania, and Poland obtain vaccines to treat HIV/AIDS. As a member of the Aspen Ministers Forum she has participated with other ex-foreign ministers to promote beneficial foreign policy and security. She is involved with the Albright Stonebridge Group (ASG) consisting of regional groups with expertise in health, technology, environmental and social sustainability and describes itself as "the world's leading commercial diplomacy and geopolitical risk firm." Its goal is to help its clients operate wisely and expand into foreign markets. Just some of the many global events discussed: the Cold War and dismantlement of the Berlin Wall; the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and her work on revision; the threat of Russian land grabs; the decision by the George W. Bush administration to invade Iraq; the Taliban and ISIS; the Arab Spring; and on a lighter note, the meaning of the pins she wears. Especially interesting to me was Albright's family history and revelations she learned about World War II from her father's notebooks, writings, and letters. Albright's stories about world leaders, entertainers, other celebrities, her travels and what-not make this a fascinating memoir.

What a treasure she is! I've been a fan from the beginning, and have ever hoped she'd be our first woman president. She's made it clear that isn't happening, and after reading this memoir I'm rather pleased that she is in the background poking the sleeping bears that seem to make up our legislative body. Someone needs to . . . . and as we all age, I'm hoping some of her outrage and wisdom, patience and passion passes on to the next ones in line. . .no one should be comfortable in those seats - they need to be vigilant and thinking of how to help us be better, not how to pad their own nests.
Here is one of my favorite take-aways - so very relevant to where we are now:
". . . because Congress could be America's last best hope. Our current president is hardly a unifying force, and the judiciary - by design - is more of a responsive institution than a proactive one. For the United States to emerge from its present funk, Congress cannot allow itself to be paralyzed. In both the House and the Senate, and on both sides of the political aisle, it must do its job. To highlight this point, many months ago I began running around the country proclaiming, "It's Article One time!" to people who have no clue what I mean. I explain that Article One is where the US Constitution spells out the privileges and obligations of the Legislative branch. I argue that lest it be steamrolled by whoever is in the White House, Congress must reassert itself as a co-equal partner in government. How? Lawmakers have the right to hear testimony from Executive branch officials, demand information from agencies, investigate cases of wrong-doing for referral to the courts, and evaluate the integrity and competence of persons nominated for positions of trust. They have a duty as well, to help set the nation's agenda so that urgent economic, social and security needs are not lost amid political posturing. Internationally, they have a chance to reassure that allies that America will stand with them in moments of stress. They can also set an example for democracies worldwide by collaborating with one another for the common good."
She keeps the long view always in the picture - reminding whoever will listen that we've got to remember our laws don't just serve these 4 years - changes that accommodate only today's whim are obsolete the moment they are put into effect, and miss the larger point that our government is not about America today. It is about America in 10 years, 20 years, 100 years. . .what problems and solutions are we leaving to future Americans, and future global partners?
An absolute delight to read and get background on so many of the political upsets and overturns I've heard of from news anchors (in black and white, and in color) and headlines when paper was the way we got our news.

I really enjoyed this memoir. I respect and admire Madeleine Albright and loved hearing her views about many things. This book dealt heavily with foreign policy and offered a good view of her experiences on the world stage. She’s witty and whip smart so I was never bored listening to her read this book. I love when authors read their own audiobook.
My favorite part of this book was how much of a champion MA is for women. Favorite quote: “there is a special place in hell for women who don’t support other women!”

I have mixed feelings about Madeleine Albright’s latest book, Hell and Other Destinations: A 21st-Century Memoir. My favorite chapters were about Hillary’s presidential runs, the Trump administration, and the Read My Pins traveling exhibit (which I visited at the LBJ Presidential Library). Other chapters read more like disjointed and rambling diary entries on topics such as The Albright Group consulting business and summaries of her other books. Even so, I admire Albright’s boundless curiosity, her humorous personality, her impressive stamina, and her commitment to public service.

As you can see, this took me a solid year to read (sorry to my high school APUSH teacher for borrowing this book for so damn long.) It’s major flaw is how meandering the narrative is. It reads much like how you imagine your grandmother reflecting on her life - while entertaining and filled with some great one liners, you find yourself scratching your head and wondering how we got on this topic in the first place (see: “let’s get you to bed, Grandma” meme).
At times self-congratulatory, it was hard for me to digest many of her ideologies I don’t quite agree with or her defenses of fumbles she has made (“there’s a special place in hell for women who don’t support other women” is a favorite of hers that is just so #girlboss that I can’t handle it.)
I think I would enjoy Madeleine’s other books better for this reason, such as her book that is a deep dive into her family history, as this was the most interesting part of her past for me. I’ve actually seen her speak in person and she’s funny as hell and someone that I’d definitely like to have a conversation with, which shows in some moments here. But this book is not exactly a memoir that made me feel particularly inspired or moved- in fact it initially made me feel the same impostor syndrome that she speaks of. I think I put off reading it for so long because it stressed me out that I wasn’t spending all of my waking hours being a productive HBIC.
All in all this is an ok read. This is especially if you watch SNL religiously or something lol.

I deeply admire and respect Madeleine Albright. This memoir mostly covers the period in her life after she held the position of U.S. Secretary of State. She does refer to her earlier life experiences, to lay the foundation for what she is retelling, so it is not necessary to have read her previous memoirs to understand and follow her story.
Some parts dragged a bit (due mostly from my inexperience in some areas), but mostly this memoir is like being a "fly on the wall" in the midst of famous/infamous political figures and celebrities.

This is the second book that I have read by this author. Now I just want to read all of her books. Her writing has a way of bolstering your spirit and making you feel strong. It also helps you sort out your feelings about politics, where you stand on issues, who you should support based on those feelings, and what you are actually capable of doing to help your causes. Again, the text gets very heavy at times and it's hard to get through those spots but it is totally worth giving those words the time to sink in.

· قضى والدها معظم حياته سفيراً لبلاده تشيكوسلافيا في عواصم عدة. ولكنه هرب مع أسرته خلال الحرب العالمية الثانية,ليضع نفسه وأسرته في خدمة وطنهم الجديد الولايات المتحدة الأميركية.
· تحمل مادلين أولبرايت شهادة جامعية مع مرتبة الشرف في مجال العلوم السياسية. وتتقن اللغات الإنجليزية والتشيكية الفرنسية, وتفهم بشكل جيد اللغات الروسية والبولونية والصربية.
· تزوجها الصحفي جوزيف ميديل باترسون.إلا أنه بعد أن عَرفها إلى شخصيات مهمة, كالسناتور ادموند ماسكي.ولكن نهمها إلى المال والنفوذ, وشبقها إلى تسلق السلطة الذين ليس له حدود. دفعاه للهرب منها كي ينجوا بجلده إلى صحفية شقراء جميلة وغير يهودية,مع أن له منها ثلاث بنات. وهذا الطلاق سبب جرحا عميقاً لمادلين,وتحول في حياتها إلى قاموس يعج بمفردات وجمل ومعاني شتى.
· ورغم يهوديتها ويهودية والديها قبل اعتناقهم الدين المسيحي الكاثوليكي.إلا أنها عندما واجهها بطرس غالي الأمين العام لمنظمة الأمم المتحدة بيهوديتها, نفت ذلك بشدة. وكذبت خبر يهوديتها الذي نشر في الواشنطن بوست. واعتبرته مؤامرة عربية عليها, هدفه تحطيمها ,والإساءة إليها.رغم أن والدها تخلى عن ديانته المسيحية. وعاد مرة أخرى إلى ديانته اليهودية في آخر حياته.
· وصفها أحد زملائها: بأنها انتهازية, وكالحرباء تملك القدرة على التلون بلون البيئة التي توجد فيها.
· رفضت استضافة الخارجية المصرية لها في أفخم فنادق الإسكندرية لأنه يحمل اسم فلسطين.
· ساهمت بدور كبير في فرض الحصار على العراق. والذي تسبب بموت ملايين الأطفال العراقيين. وبررت فعلتها الإجرامية لمحاورتها الصحفية. بقولها: أرى أن خيار قتل الأطفال خيار صعب للغاية، لكننا نعتقد أن النتيجة المرجوة تستحق هذا الثمن وتجعله مرضياً. وحين نبهتها الصحفية. قائلة لها: لاحظي إن هذا الرقم اكبر من الذين قتلوا في هيروشيما. قالت أولبرايت: انه يستاهل.
· لكنها بعد عدة أعوام على احتلال العراق, وبلوغها من العمر 72 عاماً, أعربت عن أسفها وندمها عن فعلتها السوداء وسلوكها العدواني للعراق.وتراجعت عن موقفها الإرهابي والإجرامي.وراحت تقول: كان من أفدح الأخطاء التي ارتكبتها في حياتي.فالحرب الأميركية في العراق أساءت لسمعة الولايات المتحدة واسمها، وأساءت للديمقراطية. إن الديمقراطية لا يمكن فرضها، وإنها لا تتفق مع الأصوات التي تقول أن دول الشرق الأوسط لن تصبح ديمقراطية، فلكل دولة ثقافتها وعاداتها ،وأن الديمقراطية تختلف من دولة لأخرى.وكشفت عن ما يختلج في نفسها وعقلها.حين قالت: كنت سعيدة برحيل صدام حسين، لأنه شخص فظيع، لكن غزو العراق كان كارثة للدبلوماسية الأمريكية، دمرت سمعة الولايات المتحدة، وزادت من قوة إيران، وهو ما يحاول أوباما إصلاحه الآن.

· وحب السيدة مادلين أولبرايت للمال دفعها لتأسيس استشارية دولية سمتها مجموعة أولبرايت Albright Group .ووظفت فيها بعض من عملت معهم من الساسة والوزراء السابقين الألمان والفرنسيين والتشيك. ومن زبائن مجموعتها شركة كوكا كولا وميرك وعالم موانئ دبي، وشركة بول بريمر مارش ومكلينان. ليستفيدوا من صلات وعلاقات أولبرايت الدولية. والمجموعة لها فرع اسمه شركة أولبرايت لإدارة رأس المال. أسسته 2005م. بهدف تقديم المشورة في كيفية إدارة المال الخاص في الأسواق الجديدة.والمؤسسة تأخذ على عاتقها تحصيل الديون والتعويضات لبعض الدول.لقاء حصولها على أجور دراسات وأتعاب وتحصيل , مع نسبة مئوية باهظة من هذه الأموال. والشركة الألمانية لتصنيع السيارات BMW وقعت عقداً معها, لتقديم نصائحها إزاء التعامل مع القوانين الجديدة بحماية المناخ .من خلال خفض نسب ان��عاث المواد الضارة. علماً بأن وزير البيئة الألماني السابق يوشكا فيشر يعمل مستشار استراتيجي بارز داخل مجموعة أولبرايت.

ثلاثة نساء تربعن على عرش وزارة الخارجية الأميركية لعقدين من الزمن. وأذقن العذاب لكثير من النساء. وكل واحدة منهن كانت أكثر إرهاباً وإجراماً ونفاقاً وكذباً من سابقتها.وأشد إيلاماً على البلاد والعباد.

· تزوجها الصحفي جوزيف ميديل باترسون.إلا أنه بعد أن عَرفها إلى شخصيات مهمة, كالسناتور ادموند ماسكي.ولكن نهمها إلى المال والنفوذ, وشبقها إلى تسلق السلطة الذين ليس له حدود. دفعاه للهرب منها كي ينجوا بجلده إلى صحفية شقراء جميلة وغير يهودية,مع أن له منها ثلاث بنات. وهذا الطلاق سبب جرحا عميقاً لمادلين,وتحول في حياتها إلى قاموس يعج بمفردات وجمل ومعاني شتى.
· ورغم يهوديتها ويهودية والديها قبل اعتناقهم الدين المسيحي الكاثوليكي.إلا أنها عندما واجهها بطرس غالي الأمين العام لمنظمة الأمم المتحدة بيهوديتها, نفت ذلك بشدة. وكذبت خبر يهوديتها الذي نشر في الواشنطن بوست. واعتبرته مؤامرة عربية عليها, هدفه تحطيمها ,والإساءة إليها.رغم أن والدها تخلى عن ديانته المسيحية. وعاد مرة أخرى إلى ديانته اليهودية في آخر حياته.
· وصفها أحد زملائها: بأنها انتهازية, وكالحرباء تملك القدرة على التلون بلون البيئة التي توجد فيها.
· رفضت استضافة الخارجية المصرية لها في أفخم فنادق الإسكندرية لأنه يحمل اسم فلسطين.

· تتحدث مادلين أولبرايت عن الدين . فتقول: السبب في تغيير رأيي، هو القضايا التي مرت علي في مشواري الدبلوماسي. حيث اتضح لي أكثر فأكثر أن كثيراً من صراعات ما بعد الحرب الباردة لها علاقة بالدين، ولذلك أصبح يتعين على المهتمين بشؤون السياسة الخارجية أن يتفهموا دور الدين كقوة في قضايا السياسة الخارجية, وكيفية استخدام البعد الديني في العثور على العناصر التي تجمع بين أطراف النزاع، وإذا درس المرء الديانات الإبراهيمية الثلاث، سيجد فيها مفاهيم مشتركة عن السلام والعدل والخير. وتتابع تجلياتها في هذا المجال.وتقول: الدين والسياسة لا يمكن الفصل بينهما. لكن عملهما معاً يمكن أن يكون قوة من أجل السلام، كما يمكن أن يكون دافعاً لإذكاء الصراعات.وبالفهم الأفضل للدور الذي يلعبه الدين، يمكننا فقط التحرك نحو عالم أكثر سلاماً.وتكشف عن الوجه الديني للولايات المتحدة الأمريكية.وتقول: الولايات المتحدة دولة متدينة أكثر من أية دولة في أوروبا، باستثناء بولندا . إنه جزء من حمضنا النووي. كثير منا نحن الذين ننتمي للحزب الديمقراطي نقول إننا نؤمن بالله ونؤمن بالأسرة والمجتمع، ليس المسيحيون المحافظون وحدهم من يؤمنون بذلك. ولكنني على قناعة بأن هناك من هم في أقصى اليمين يحاولون فرض الكثير من وجهات نظرهم الدينية على الآخرين. وتنهي تصوراتها وتجلياتها باحجيات وألغاز. حين تقول: لا ندري كيف يمكن للدين أن يساعد الناس بشكل أفضل، مثلاً على أن يتحدوا. أعتقد أنه يُستخدم أساساً في تقسيم الناس.أو يبدو أنه يؤدي إلى انقسام الناس,. لأننا وبوضوح، نستمع إلى ما يقوله الله عندما يوافق قوله ما نود سماعه. وعندما تتضمن الرسالة التي تصلنا شيئاً مثل: ديني أفضل من دينك، وسوف يكون مصيرك الجحيم" فإن ذلك لا يساعد، فعلياً، على حل المشاكل. وتبدي حيرتها من موضوع الدين. فتقول: لا ندري كيف يمكن للدين أن يساعد الناس بشكل أفضل، مثلاً على أن يتحدوا. أعتقد أنه يُستخدم أساساً في تقسيم الناس.أو يبدو أنه يؤدي إلى انقسام الناس,. لأننا وبوضوح، نستمع إلى ما يقوله الله عندما يوافق قوله ما نود سماعه. وعندما تتضمن الرسالة التي تصلنا شيئاً مثل: ديني أفضل من دينك، وسوف يكون مصيرك الجحيم" فإن ذلك لا يساعد، فعلياً، على حل المشاكل. وتعبر عن تشاؤمها بخصوص إيجاد حلول لقضايا الشرق الأوسط.فتقول: أثناء تعاملنا مع الشرق الأوسط .أن تلك قضية يلعب الله فيها دوراً كبيراً.
· وتذكرنا أولبرايت بحبها لإسرائيل .فتقول: أمن إسرائيل مهم جداً للولايات المتحدة وأنا مؤمنة بوجود دولة إسرائيل. ولكنني لا أعتقد أنه من المفيد لأمن إسرائيل أن تكون محاطة بأناس جائعين وحزينين.
· وتستفيض مادلين أولبرايت بتحليل ظاهرة الخوف التي تعصف ببلادها. وتقول: إننا ما نزال نمتلك جرعة زائدة من الخوف في الأوقات الأخيرة. ويطلب منا أن نكون خائفين حتى نكون أقل حماية لدستورنا، وأقل اهتماما بالقانون الدولي، واقل احتراماً للحلفاء، وأقل تعمقاً في بحثنا عن الحقيقة، واقل نشاطاً في التساؤل عما يقوله لنا زعماؤنا. ويجري تحفيزنا من جانب البيت الأبيض لاعتناق ثقافة الخوف التي تقف وراء سياستنا الخارجية وتضيقها، بينما تسمم قدرتنا على التواصل بصورة فعالة مع الآخرين. وتوصف هذا الخوف بقولها: يتمثل احد تجليات الخوف في عدم الاستعداد للتفكير جدياً بآفاق بديلة. وظل موقف أميركا في العالم في انحدار منفلت خلال السنوات القليلة الماضية، لأن بلدنا ينظر إليه باعتباره يحاول فرض واقعه الخاص، لصياغة عالم آمن ومريح لنا، مع قليل من الاعتبار لوجهات نظر الآخرين. وتحدد الدواء للشفاء من ظاهرة الخوف بقولها: نحن لن نتمكن من الشفاء عن طريق استخدام الخوف، بل من خلال تربية أنفسنا على معرفة العالم حولنا، وتعلم لغات أجنبية، وتقييم كل الأديان، ودراسة أبعاد كثيرة للحقائق التاريخية، وتسخير التكنولوجيا الحديثة لأغراض بناءة، والنظر إلى ما وراء التصورات التي تقسم العالم إلى خيّر وشرير.أنا آمل أن يكون الرئيس القادم ممتلكا تسامياً عقلياً لا يجعله بحاجة إلى تخويفنا.
· وضعت أولبرايت مخطط مشروع الشرق الأوسط الجديد.إلا أنها تنصلت منه.وأوصت بتقسيم العراق إلى ثلاث دول.وتراجعت عنه.وراحت تقسيم العراق معناه تفجير منطقة الشرق الأوسط برمتها.
أكتفي بهذا القدر من سرد لبعض تصرفات وتصريحات وأقوال ومواقف وحكم السيدة مادلين أولبرايت. والذي يكفي لاستنتاج الخلاصة التالية: لتسلق السلطة: يطرح الساسة الأمريكيين أنفسهم على أنهم حماة لقيم الحرية والديمقراطية والسلام والأمن والعالم الحر.وبعد وصولهم إليها, يرمون ببضاعتهم هذه أرضاً.ويتحولون إلى قياصرة وإرهابيين للدفاع عن مصالح إسرائيل والامبريالية العالمية والأمن القومي الأميركي. فيكبدون الإنسانية وبلادهم والعالم خسائر جمة.وحين تلفظهم السلطة,أو يتقاعدون منها لأسباب شتى,يعترفون بأخطائهم وتجاوزاتهم ويتبرؤون منها ويحملون غيرهم وزر ما جرى, ويتحولون إلى ناصحين ومرشدين لغيرهم من الساسة.أو يلتحقون كأئمة مؤسسات ومراكز دراسات وبحوث.أو مستشارين لمؤسسات اقتصادية كبرى.

Madeleine Albright is an entirely fascinating woman. She immigrated to the US from the Czech Republic when she was 11 years old and embraces the American dream but also places importance on her past. After her husband divorced her and her kids grew up she looked to do something else with her life and she sure has made the most of it. Although she got a late start in politics she served as Secretary of State in the Clinton Administration and continued her career after as a professor, lecturer, public servant, consultant, and has held various other government and organizational positions. I didn’t know a lot about her before this book but after I must say I have so much respect for her. The book is well-written and I am curious to learn more.

Like her or hate her Madeleine Albright has lived a full life. Starting her career late in life, compared to most, and then finding herself divorced only a few short years later may have put others out of commission, but not Madeleine.
Growing up I had heard about Madeleine Albright but I could only tell you superficial information. This book is like opening the curtain to her whole life, both personally and professionally. She is also critical of herself and some of the decisions she's made or ideas she has supported while also explaining what was happening in the room to help guide those paths.
I love memoirs but people in politics because, whether I agree with them or not, I ultimately learn a lot. I definitely recommend reading this memoir.

The author began this book by asking what a former Secretary of State is to do with the final decades of her life, and she answered this question in a variety of ways. Part memoir, part reflections on historical events, this was a lengthy yet interesting book.
I found more enjoyment and insight from the sections in which the author discussed her childhood, family, and personal moments from her professional life. I would have preferred more of these intimate stories and fewer of the strictly descriptive sections about history and/or political engagements. However, despite the handful of less personal sections, I still took away a fair amount of advice and food for thought about making the most of one’s life.

This is the first book that I have read by Madeleine Albright. She has written many other books. She is very giving of her time and expertise, has stored a lot of information in her brain, is busier than any one person should be, and is very talented!!
This book does have some policy talk in it and how she has used her time after she was Secretary of State. But it is not dry and you can certainly tell that she has a great sense of humor and is very approachable.
She knows that she has a wealth of information and she wants to share it and make the world a better place.
I would recommend this book!!

Thanks to Harper and Edelweiss for sharing the latest memoir by Madeline Albright. I’ve long been an admirer of hers, but hadn’t gotten around to reading her prior books (I will make it a higher priority of). I enjoyed her writing style and found her down to earth and refreshingly self-deprecating. I recommend this for fans of hers, and of foreign affairs, politics or memoirs.

I'm thankful that we have Madeleine Albright, and many others, to help us understand the politics and trends of the times. This book shows some of the ordinary, and perhaps important, topics that have occupied the author in her political career. This is a big contrast to her previous book "Fascism: A Warning", which was wonderful and carried a strong focused message.

To say I love Madame Secretary (the show) is an understatement. And then I found out Elizabeth McCord’s charter is based on Madeleine Albright. And so when I found out about this book, I flipping lost my mind. I was on the the library waitlist like FOREVER, but worth it.
What an incredible woman and what a life! Madeleine has a way with words and made her writing so enjoyable to read. I do sincerely hope she fulfill the promise “until I’m carried out, I’ll carry on”. There is just so much to glean from her; her life, her humor, her wisdom, and all that Madeleine Albright-ness!

Wonderful listen! Albright's voice drew me in and her ideas are thought-provoking. Her insights and discussion of Putin and NATO's role in the world are spot on given recent events. We have lost a woman of deep courage and conviction. I enjoyed her insights on the writing process, the humorous stories she shares, and her zest for learning. It takes courage and curiosity to keep building a new life for oneself when marriages and careers come to a halt. As she laid out what goes into that rebuilding process, I learned more about how to think about the next stages and 2nd acts in life. Although some areas of the book could have used some additional editing/tightening, I was engaged throughout and definitely recommend it.

Ze is ondertussen tachtig, maar als je leest wat ze allemaal nog doet, niet normaal. Lezingen geven, boeken schrijven, ze zit in allerlei comitées of richt er zelf nog een paar op, reist de hele wereld rond, geeft les, heeft nog tijd voor kinderen en kleinkinderen. Een kleine drukke bezige bij, dat is de indruk die ik bij haar heb. Ik ga nog meer van haar lezen want dit boek gaat alleen over de tijd vanaf 2001 wanneer ze de post van Minister van Buitenlandse zaken moet afstaan. Ze heeft dan 8 jaar onder Bill Clinton gewerkt en de Clintons zijn goede vrienden van haar. Ze heeft eigenlijk heel veel vrienden en kan precies met iedereen door een deur. Een gezellig mens.

4.5 stars. Might change to 5-stars. Madeleine Albright has quickly become one of my favorite authors. Equal parts insightful, authentic, and witty. Albright is a pioneer across many fields—government and global diplomacy in particular—and a true inspiration.

I just loved this one. Here you can find Madeleine Albright speak about her life experiences, ancestry as well as politics in America. Read it if you like reading about politics, Albrights life, the Holocaust, and all kinds of known people, not necessarily American.

Madeline Albright is intelligent and funny. I was surprised by her easy, quick wit. She is my height! There aren't very many of us. To be a brilliant, petite woman and to be taken seriously at such a high level in a world dominated by men is a stunning accomplishment.
