Mixed Martial Arts + Cultivation + Monster Girls = Oh My! John LeBrock is the greatest MMA fighter on Earth. He takes on all opponents and destroys them with ease. He is rich, good looking, and oozes with charisma. He wants for nothing, and life is good. John will soon find out that a seemingly perfect life can change in the blink of an eye. The MMA world champion will be given the opportunity to travel through a cosmic doorway that leads to the other side of the universe to a strange but beautiful world called Azura. In Azura, all things are possible, and he has the potential to gain unlimited power. This new fantasy world is desperate for his help! Will he decide to go? Does he really have a choice? This Cultivation LitRPG includes intimate scenes that are described in great detail (NOT Fade to Black), graphic violence, profanity, and smokin' hot women (including monster girls) who are all in a relationship with one lucky man. So, if you don't like these wonderful things, this isn't the book for you! Otherwise, you are in for a wild ride!
I am Beck, Austin Beck. Ok, that was lame. I am Austin, and I love litrpg, gamelit, harem, wuxia, and xianxia! My first novel, Mixed Martial Cultivator: Round One, combines all of these genres together. I write books that are action-packed in more ways than one. They do have graphic depictions of the naughty nature, so you have been warned. If you are kind enough to read my novels...PLEASE leave a review for me. They are so important for new authors like me! Thank you for checking my novels out. Happy Reading!
The premise of the story itself is not bad. Whoever, the problem is that this is basically a porn book. All the women suffer from MC whore syndrome, they see the MC and all want to have sex and all want to be part of his harem even if they never wanted to do such a thing before they met him and the stupid book is excessively graphic with the "several" sexual encounters... urg... So 2 stars for the fact the story "had" potential.
The author has set up the series in a way that can be used to grow the characters as the world building takes place. The potential of the characters is very good and the action scenes are fun to read. Overall I enjoyed it.
All-in-all, the story was pretty good, and I will definitely be checking out the next book.
There were a few issues that caused me to remove a star, however.
Firstly, there were some pretty obvious plot inconsistencies surrounding the cyclops quest. First of all, the leader of the town reported that the cyclops killed 2 men and stole their wives. Tasha returns from scouting the cyclops camp and reports that she saw one of the women, Yoshi, being pulled into the Alpha's cave. When John and Rhonda discover that they were too late to save Yoshi she consoles him by saying that she could have very well been dead for days or weeks, there wasn't anything they could do. However, Tasha had reported that Yoshi was still alive, just a few hours prior. Then, when they return with Yoshi's body, they are directed to her family, including her husband, who was previously said to be dead.
Another issue is that John is a bit of an idiot. Not every MC has to have MENSA level intelligence, but for a top level martial artist he can sure be dumb. He takes forever to realize he should respect the more powerful people around him, he gets given explicit directions (say "crushing" while jumping to activate the technique) then immediately forgets what he was told and messes it up. He also only ever yells his techniques. We see in the cyclops camp that they can be activated with a whisper, Rhonda whispers to activate her mystblade technique, but then in the alpha cave, John gives up the element of surprise by yelling "BLITZ!!!" before attacking. Same with his battles with Macchio and Yan, he telegraphs all his techniques by yelling them instead of whispering or even just speaking them.
The final nail in the coffin to lose the star is that all of them women he interacts with basically fall for him instantly. They are all instantly flirty and handsy, then before they get to know each other very much at all they are having intimate sex. And it isn't just casual stuff, it's very clear that they are serious, and while none of them have said the L-word, it's pretty clear that they are ride or die.
Besides all the dumb yelling, the fight scenes are great, and while they happen with very little buildup, the spicy scenes are also written pretty well. The story is good if you don't take it extremely seriously and I will continue reading the series.
The begining was pretty good. Had some really nice dialogue and the narration was really good. Female narrator could use some acting lessons, but she has nice voices. Too bad the book start to feel rushed and the writing gets worse and worse. Author tries to compansate for it bu just adding more things faster and fast (girls, monster, techniques, fights etc.). Even the side character starts to worship and praise the MC every sentance. You know it poor writing when you have to spell out the praise and the reader just don't feel it.
Some choices i dislike and could have done better: I really hate the setup of an MMA master, it really hard to give the reader the authentic feeling. The number of axekick and leg sweap is ridiculous. A cultivator or an MMA artist doesn't fight like that and much more
The cultivation was a cluster****! Feels more like bad video game with magic. I really hate spolen spells, sound like Dragon ball anime for kids. Kids don't listen to explicit harem. There is no struggle or progression in the cultivation. The levels are shit and it's not used apart from covering the body in Pink mist. Pink?!? Really?!? Plz research and find good example of cultivation and litrpg for that matter.
The master! They sound over the top, but comes out as ridiculous. Keep to the more asian way. There is no explaination why they teleport human to their world. I like the slice of life attitude (just hate world saving and prophecy stories).
The choice of getting more earthling. Why? The other mma heroines could have been left out and it would have made the book better. She also acts (like many others) like a 14 year old girl. I dont want heroines acting like stupid bratty girls. They would die fast in a cultivator world and evolution would have wiped them out long ago.
Plz quit the series and start a new one. Keep to the slice of life, good dialogue and character developement that this genre are missing so much. Atleast I won't continue. Step it up.
The premise seemed interesting and starting out was fun, but then basically a switch flipped about 60% through and everything was different. It's almost like we were halfway through training and then suddenly we're on the front lines.
And it wasn't just the pacing, but also seems like the time changed. While the book up to that point was reasonably well written, suddenly there were a lot of winks, poorly timed innuendos, and poor descriptions of actions like this gem: "They splat right in front of us as we began marching toward the battle."
Had the climax of the book kept the same writing level as everything up to that point, I could have easily accepted the "suddenly ready for action." Instead, it's like someone wrote the beginning of a book then handed it off to someone else to finish.
It's a decent book, there's some lengthy text blocks because of the app being well... you all know how it turns a normal paragraph into a block that looks like you're trying to read Russian half drunk and forgot most of the rules, okay just me? Anyways the fight scenes are intense, the characters are decently well rounded, the adult scenes are brief and not as frequent as you'd expect but they exist. This book is graphic and not just in an adult fashion, the violence gets brutal and gory towards the end. Still it wasn't the best but it wasn't the worst, I wouldn't go out of my way to reccomend it, but, if you pick it up it won't be a complete disappointment like some books. All in all it wasn't stunning but I like it enough to read the next one and I hope you will as well. I feel like there's potential here.
This book is just ok. There are plenty of grammar issues as using the wrong spelling of certain words. All the characters feel the same and all speak so similarly to where it felt like the MC has some multiple personality disorder and this is all happening in his head. Also, how does a lake suddenly have a ladder to get out of? Some parts are confusing just like my review. The story didn’t have any sense of purpose, I’m not sure if the author was trying to avoid the “prophecy” trope or what. Even as a slice of life type story it doesn’t do well. Read it if you want, as do myself I more than likely won’t grab the next book unless I’ve got nothing better to do.
The story is interesting but the characters seem very shallow which to me makes this seem like a book early in the author’s career where they still need to hone their craft. A lot of description is missing in key locations leaving the story with holes that sometimes spoil a scene, and characters that are as shallow as a puddle. I still enjoyed reading this, but as I have been reading some poorly translated Japanese light novels recently so I may be more forgiving in this review than I might have been. This book does contain sex scenes and the MC looks to be building a harem of super attractive female characters I.e. this is a male pulp fantasy novel.
The primary reason this is two star instead of one is that I was at least able to finish the story, but it was difficult for me to get through. The action is decent, but everything else about the story feels very shallow, from character development to world building. Everything, including the gratuitous relationships, is there to just prop up how much of a "badass" the main character is compared to everyone else.
I really enjoyed this book. Main character is a confident and intelligent character. Which I always enjoy because they don't hesitate over nonsensical things very often. The plot development is balanced well with action and adventure. And the pacing is very well done. Definitely eager to read the next book when it releases.
It's not the worst, but it's certainly not the greatest either. It just feels like the corners are rounded off and the pacing is weird. It's pretty blend and the characters are all simpletons for the most part.... I would say overall the story is just...meh..
I have literally read this in one day. Absolutely magnificent first book. I love the characters, the action and way the mc is developing. My only minor criticism is that uav stands for unmanned aerial vehicle, not area lol. Cant wait for book 2!
I like the level of detail presented in this story. It's not too wordy and boring, it's not too simple, and the story moved at a decent pace. Looking forward to the next book.
Can’t wait to see more adventures to see with John and the gang. I hope the group find more techniques or get a couple more upgrades next book feel like John could have the unique power of making new skills with the myst.
MMA fighter transports to a new world with a Chinese cultural background and finds his skills are very very important. Nice plot, amusing characters, fairly good dialogue. Reminds me of later Bruce Lee movies. Quite entertaining. Now where is the sequel?
The MC is rather low brow and definitely full of himself. Its ok to be confident but he is impulsive and reactive. The world building isnt bad but there are better stories out there.
