A 3 way love story that isn’t a disaster

Three people who love each other equally, have amazing sex, gay and straight, and if it was legal, would all marry each other. Set over a realistic time scale, instead of the customary few weeks, this covers roughly 15 years (maybe). All three characters feel like real people. Not a predictable plot, there’s some typical miscommunication and crossed wires at the beginning, some funny bits dealing with pothead parents, intrigue and blackmail, a mix of steamy sex, and a love story that feels like it will last until death.

• The Rule of 3 (by Ariella Talix)

The name of the book gives you a hint. Then, the cover. But when you do get in the book that's when you just enjoy it on another level

The MMF version of the polyamorous relationship is shown so well, from the start to the end. The ups, downs, fun and excitement along with the understanding and misunderstanding all is shown in this book in such a light drama and full blown humor you will be hooked and you wouldn't know

I do get hooked to the book but got a bit distracted when everything hot on good terms almost on the 60% in the book. I just kept reading and hoping theres more to the story and plot left and I wasnt disappointed

I would say that the sex scenes, the romance and the deep infuriating excitement mixed with passion was shown and described very well that when you read the male and male love parts or the male- female love parts or all if them together you still enjoy it thoroughly

That's when you know a book is well written when you dont cringe but want to know what happens next. That's what happens with this book

So I recommend this book to anyone who is open to read polyamorous romance or trying to explore their reading romance preferences

• Character development- 4.6☆
• Story Plot- 3.8☆
• Side characters- 4.2☆
• Flow of the story- 4.6☆
• Overall - 4☆

Loved this! Very well written.

The author used just the right amount of steamy, realistic, explicit scenes and actual plot & character development. That’s not always the case and I’ll definitely be reading more of her books! This was a funny, heart-warming and HOT story.

The Heart Wants What the Heart Wants

The number 3 is unique in its meaning through time and across cultures. In physics, 3 is the fewest supports needed to provide stability and balance. And, when establishing an argument, 3 ideas are considered necessary to prove validity. Author Ariella Talix explores the concept of 3 as a number of completeness in a relationship—challenging the concepts of a couple, consisting of a male and a female, as the only option for a happy, fulfilling sexual relationship.

From their young adolescent years, Tanner Lassiter and Zoë Deliban, were known as the sweethearts of Honeybee Hollow, Kentucky. Both Tanner and Zoë were beautiful young adults who seemed to naturally look “right” together. Part of their natural connection was Madison, Tanner’s younger sister by 3 years, and Zoë’s best friend. And over time, as Tanner and Zoë evolved as sweethearts, they became each other’s “firsts”—first kiss, first fondling, and ultimately, first lover.

But, a three year’s difference in age meant that Zoë was left behind when Tanner departed for Princeton. She had shared all of Tanner’s high school milestones, including senior prom, but she was at home alone, dateless, for her senior prom because Tanner, who had observed his sister’s heartache of trying to sustain a relationship with a guy in college while she was still in high school, wanted to “free” Zoë to experience all of the high school experiences without the strings of a long-distance relationship. And so, when he left, he “broke up” with Zoë, and he broke her heart. And, she went to college following her own dreams of teaching children, and with a heart that was not as trusting as it had been.

While Tanner’s breaking up was hurtful for Zoë, Tanner was right to understand that he needed to be “free” to experience college without strings, emotionally pulling him back to Honeybee Hollow. His break from home began almost immediately his freshman year after meeting his wealthy, well-connected, sophisticated and physically beautiful roommate, Elison Whittaker, the Third. The two seemed to connect immediately, and Eli opened Tan’s eyes to a broader vision of love than the sweet male/female relationship Tan had experienced in the arms of Zoë. But, Tanner’s dream had always been to enter the world of politics—a world that would require Tanner to follow a more traditional vision of love if he were to achieve his life dreams. And so, as he returns to Honeybee Hollow, he must try to undo his ill-considered break up of the past, and to turn his back on the new vision of love that has allowed Tanner to grow in his understanding of the nature of love and the ability of the human heart to grow, rather than to be diminished, by a non-traditional vision of love.

Ariella Talix invites her readers to join her in the world of a group of young, creative, engaging friends and family who are open to accepting and affirming the uniqueness of those around them. Talix always shares hot, sensual moments with her readers, but those moments are never gratuitous—sensual moments always progress naturally in the evolving relationships of the characters and are not artificially contrived. Talix is a gifted storyteller who plots the evolution of the story and the engagements and actions of her characters. And so, the exploration of a “throuple,” a MMF relationship is a respectful, natural and tastefully sensual awakening and joining of loving characters. And, the author teases her reader, suggesting that the romances of authors, such as “Dolly Gunn,” or even herself, allow the reader to explore new visions of the nature of human love and interactions in a safe, “non-judgmental” setting.

I have always enjoyed books by Ariella Talix, and know that she crafts thoughtful stories. I recognized two names in the blurb as characters from previous books, and I was curious to see how she would present such a tricky storyline as an MMF in the realms of small town and politics.

The author manages to do it with great care and sensitivity. In this story, I didn’t think Tanner (M1) was a very nice guy at first because of the way he was handling his personal relationships. As I gained a better understanding of him, he became much more likable. I thought Zoe (F) was an interesting combination of a pretty simple outside appearance and a very complicated internal personality. Zoe’s parents were excellent secondary characters. Knowing more about them shed light on her, and how an elementary school teacher could adapt relatively easily to such a dramatic change in relationship lifestyle. Eli, the second male lead (M2) seemed to have all the answers, and have everything under control, but he was very emotionally sensitive and selfless. Under his handsome appearance was an equally beautiful heart.

The explicit parts of the book, including the MMF scenes, are definitely no holds barred. But the focus is really strongly on the interpersonal relationships, and the fact that the most important thing is always love.

A Joyfully Jay review.

The Rule of 3 opens to a promising story. In quick progression, we get caught up with Tanner and Zoë’s relationship and breakup, and then Tanner and Eli’s relationship and breakup. It sets the stage for the conflict Tanner feels about both partners and then his future political career. We don’t get a lot of depth in either relationship, but it was enough to secure Tanner’s feelings for both of them. That worked fine in the early part of the book, but the lack of depth as the story continued didn’t work as well for me as the book then moves ahead in large chunks of time.

The way the three of them got together didn’t resonate with me as Eli and Zoë had built no relationship besides thinking the other looked good prior to becoming a threesome and declaring their love for each other.

Tanner Lassiter and Zoe Deliban grew up together and even dated then he went off to college and dumped her, he dated a lot of women but he never forgot Zoe she was the only woman he really loved but he had not told her that when he left her. He had a roommate and he never realized that Elison Whittaker aka Eli wanted to be with him and he was shocked but not enough to send him away as time past they fell in love but knew they could never be together. He graduated and came home to Honeybee Hollow, Kentucky to run for mayor he really wanted to have a political career and he wanted to make Zoe his wife and he would never think about cheating on her with anyone. Eli was behind his career 100% he had the money and the power to get Tanner to the White House if that was his goal right now he just wanted to be Mayor of Honeybee Hollow. As time moved on Zoe came back from college and became a kindergarten teacher and she loved it and the people in town loved her and after they got rid of the man she was dating they finally started dating and he never told her about Eli. When she met Eli when he came to town to be Tanner's best man for their wedding as well as help with his campaign for Governor, Things totally changed for them all after that, and Eli and Zoe find they are attracted to each other and she finds out his secret. They run into blackmail with a seedy little man but his family and Eli's family is there to help him. I enjoyed the storyline and the characters were interesting. Romance, love, and adult content. I really enjoyed this story. This is my first book from this author and I will definitely watch for more books. This had plenty of hot sensual moments. Elison opens Tanner''s eyes to a different kind of relationship other that just male and female. Tan had always wanted that relationship with Zoe and since he wanted to go into politics he had to go more traditional. There were so many levels of love in this story between Zoe and Tan and then you add in Elison. It was good to peel back the romances of all three and have them still get the love and understanding these three had. There was a little blackmail but that was taken care of by Eli's family and Tan's family. Loved the storyline, the characters were interesting. Romance, love and some adult content. This story gives you a new perspective on M/M love. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Politics. Laughs. Small towns. What more could you want when it involves a past love and a love-friendship that will last a lifetime.

Not expecting a 5 star read from the cover, but WOW, these characters and this storyline was a heart-melting small town romance that I think all romance lovers could fall in love with. Zoe, Tanner and Eli were the perfect throple that Ariella wrote. She paired the perfect amount of chemistry, lust, and sass that makes this an awesome, unputdownable ménage romance for 2020.

I would love to see a .5, a novella come out to see what their lives are like at retirement with their children and their love for one another.

I am looking forward too seeing other books by this author as this was my first time reading a book by her.

I received an ARC from the author thru Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving my review. This is the first book i have read by Ariella. It begins with a small town love that does not really bloom, yet never goes away. The kind of attachment that sticks with you. The men become roommates, friends and partners. Tanner wants to return home and go into politics and Elison is basically shoved in the closet. The chemistry is still there between Tanner and Zoe and a future is planned. When she meets Elison, there is chemistry there also. Tanner needs to come clean to Zoe about his feelings for Elison. There is a lot of drama and secrets between small town politics, love in an unconventional relationship and someone out to sabotage everything. I enjoyed all of the characters and the writing. I look forward to more books from Ariella

Tanner left his small home town and his childhood sweetheart Zoe to go to Princeton. He met Eli when they became roommates and a relationship developed between the two. But Tanner has his sights set on becoming governor so Eli stays in his life as his campaign manager. When Tanner returns to his hometown and becomes mayor, having Zoe back in his life would help with his campaign for governor and possibly even a presidential campaign in years to come. He has never stopped loving Zoe and the mild mannered Kindergarten teacher is willing to give Tanner another chance. When Eli is introduced to the relationship, Zoe is open minded enough to welcome their ‘throuple’. But a blackmailer is in the wings and prepared to ruin Tanner’s dreams.
This was an engaging and enjoyable read. The characters relationship is thought-provoking and the story interesting. Loved it.

A beautifully written book that's choke-full of feelings and overflowing with emotion. Tanner had ambitions of running for President one day so he needed to keep his relationship with his roommate Eli a secret. Eli was wealthy, politically connected, and essentially a Kingmaker. Eli knew that if Tanner was to achieve his Presidential dreams he needed to maintain a more 'traditional' lifestyle. He helped him win the love back from his high school girlfriend Zoe. If you like menage stories you'll enjoy this book. The first part is a little slow and the last a little rushed, IMO. Otherwise a good read. The characters have a lot of depth and the storyline is engaging. I received a free copy of this book via Net Galley and am voluntarily leaving a review

Totaling captivating storyline!
The storyline of THE RULE OF 3 is so enthralling that I got lost in the book. I did not stop reading until the end. After 38 chapters, I was still glad I choose to read from start to finish. Worth the lost sleep.
The characters that the author writes about are described with such detail that each one of them comes to life in full force. Tanner, Zoe, and Eli make loving each other in an impossible situation doable. They are in it for the long-haul. The path is not always easy, but love shines through even in the roughest times.
I truly enjoyed reading THE RULE OF 3. It may be a bit wordy, but still so worth the read!

3.5

Something about this was different and I couldn’t put my finger on it but as I read the reviews here I realized it was the POV storytelling. It was interesting, almost like being read a story.

I did like the premise, characters and the pacing was pretty good as well. There were a few surprises that gave the story a bit of depth. The steamy scenes were organic and sexy, not overdone.

One thing that sat strangely with me is that everyone is stunning and beloved and of course someone in the mix is a billionaire. The characters have only loved each other, never had another real relationship. It makes them otherworldly and odd to me. Yes, silly things to mention because this is a novel, fiction, and it was fun and entertaining but I would love to see this story set in a more realistic scenario. I will check out more by this author.

This is a spinoff from a series I haven't read "Lovers in Louisville". Tanner Lassiter and Zoe Deliban have a steamy history in high school. They break up when he leaves for college breaking Zoe's heart. Time and life pass. Tanner meets Eli and falls in love but due to his political ambitions the relationship may fail. Tanner returns to his home town to begin his political career and realizes he is in love with Zoe as well as Eli. We also get a view of an idyllic small town where everyone pitches in to help their neighbors. I found the intimate moments in the book sensual and sensitive. This MMF book shares the challenges of expressing our sexuality and who we love based on "social norms".

The heat was turned up high in the latest novel from this gifted author...
I won't tell the story which is outlined in the blurb & previous reviews. I thought it was another well crafted story, multi layered, detailed & frankly, fascinating. From the heroines' oddball parents to her scummy boyfriend she was so much more deserving of some tlc. It came in the form of an aspirational boyfriend & his former male lover. Could she love both men & would they be able to keep their unusual relationship away from the prying eyes of the press? I received an arc & this is my honest & voluntary review.

Author was terrific in character development and storylines. A young couple get back together after separating when they left for college. Things have greatly changed and there are twists in their future to deal with. Best friends integrate into their private circle and things explode. Politics can rear its ugly head when least expected. You will not be able to put this book down. Plan to read more from this author very soon.

Well that was fantastic! I truly enjoyed every page, the smokin’ hot scenes were some of the best I have read, the characters were well put together. I will admit her almost immediate acceptance of Eli was iffy, but this is not a very long book so I understand the need to get things moving. I enjoyed this beautiful mmf, with the light political aspects. This could have easily been a couple hundred more pages that I would have read easily.

So heartfelt and HOT!!!

This book spans from the age of 7 to above 35 with a lot going on in-between. It is very true to life. It is full of steamy hot scenes, angst, love and drama. The chemistry between Zoe, Tanner and Eli is off the charts. I really enjoyed it and couldn't wait till the end.

This is an ARC read. My review is honestly and freely given. Please other reviewers, don't copy my review but come up with your own beautiful words to describe this wonderful book.

This is my first experience of this author’s work although not the first book in this genre. I was impressed by the author’s portrayal of the relationship between Eli, Zoe and Tanner. Previous books I have read portrayed the balance in the Polyamorous relationship differently. Here I felt that they were all equally invested in the relationship. Would definitely read more by this author.

I really enjoyed rule of 3. Tanner, zoe, and eli are in a love triangle. They are dealing with the realization that someone will be left heartbroken once two enter a relationship. It was a nice read that kept my attention through out the book. While I liked all 3 of them together, I especially loved Eli's & tanners relationship. I'd love a sequel that follows their lives after this story ends. I'd also like a spin off about eli's sister Caro.
