A widow’s eyes open to a whole new way of loving when she moves to a gated community, but will one man be enough for her new-found appetite for life?
When Jane, a wealthy young widow, complains of her sexual frustration in her online support group she gets a little more than she bargained for. Beverley, another widow, suggests that what Jane really needs is a change of scene and she knows just the place.
Within a month, Jane has sold her house in Florida and moved upstream to Winchester Drive, an expensive, gated community in Massachusetts. On the outside it looks like anywhere else, but this charming seaside community holds myriad secrets.
With a mysterious sex club, a very helpful workforce and a new psychology professor who's just moved in around the block, this place has more than enough men to help Jane move to the next phase of her grieving process.
All she wanted was a little sexual relief, but she gets way more than she bargained for. Jane must move on from her past, learn what she really wants from the new men in her life and find a way to make it work so that everybody gets their happily ever after.
Liberating Jane was so much fun! This was my first opportunity to read something from Katherine E. Hunt, and now I want to read her other books. This particular story is a short one, only a few chapters, and I would have loved to have seen more of these characters and their unique situation, but it was a perfect summertime escape. Jane is a young widow who is adjusting to her new life, and although she misses her husband dearly, she is also craving a physical connection. When she is "recruited" to join a community that seems to have a lot of happy widows living in it, she decides, "Why not?" She soon learns there is a reason behind all that happiness and it has a lot to do with the special functions that occur at this gated community. Pretty soon, she has her pick of handsome men, and completely on her terms. If you're a romance reader, be aware this isn't a traditional storyline in which the protagonist ends up with one person (or a few.) Rather, the partners in question make it clear that they all want to continue to see as many people as they like...and this works for all of them. If you're looking for a hot quickie, this will do the trick.
I really like Katherine E. Hunt's style of writing, it's funny and sexy and this book didn't disappoint.
Widowed Jane moves from Florida to a gated community in Massachusetts and when her new friends introduce her to their secret sex club, her (sex) life takes a turn for the better.
My only issue with it is that it was too short! Can't wait for the other books in the series.
I was given an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I did enjoy this very short read, but it wasn’t believable. None of the characters had to grapple with internalized mononormativity, and Jane went from just sex to sex with feelings with no apparent driver. It felt like a lot of telling and no showing. I probably will read more tho bc it’s a form of polyamory you don’t usually see in romance. I just wish it was done better
I really enjoy this tale of a woman giving herself over to polyamory. The sex scenes were hot, the guys interesting. I am afraid that this is going to end up being monogamous story but I'll go with the ride until then. Love the idea of the Widows Club
I'm pretty sure this was my first book by this author, it won't be my last. Very much enjoyed the writing style. Good story, great heat, fun, fast read...recommend.
Hunt's voice shines in this erotic novella: wry wit and snappy humor. She proves that more seasoned heroines are definitely needed in the genre. Jane's liberation is sexy and sensuous, with thoughtful notes of realistic tenderness. I'm looking forward to more characters and hot exploits in this series!
