How Good Are You Willing to Let It Get?: Daily FEELGOOD Inspiration for Creatives, Healers, and Helpers

Rate this book
Sarah and her magnificent spirit animal Alice the Elephant created this wee book of inspiration to encourage creatives, healers and helpers. Alice offers up daily wisdom in a lighthearted (and sometimes salty) way and Sarah adds her own reflections along with a prompt and prayer. Themes include humility, moderation, self-love, family, friendship, creativity, pitfalls & quagmires, addiction recovery, and dealing with fear. How good are YOU willing to let it get? We hope that your answer is,"VERY good!", and this book will help you get there.

"Once I got to ride on the back of a bull elephant. Before that experience I never realized how different the forest appears from the animal's great height, or how silently they can move. Sarah Seidelmann's book How Good Are You Willing to Let It Get? took me right back to this experience. Seidelmann's transcribed instructions from Alice the Elephant bring a sense of higher meaning, softness, humor, and beauty to our human voyage through a difficult world (and the cards bearing her art are worth at least a thousand words apiece). Sarah Seidelmann is a true medicine woman, and everything she creates is good for what ails us."

Martha Beck, Author of Expecting Adam and Finding Your Way in a Wild New World

"How Good Are You Willing to Let it Get is guaranteed to lift your mood, put a spring in your step, and pull you out of whatever funk that old logical brain of yours has plunged you into at any given moment. We all need help keeping our vibration high so that life gets better and better. And we all need validation for when things aren't so great. This book and card deck are designed to assist with this level of human homework. Enjoy them."

Christiane Northrup, M.D., New York Times best-selling author of Goddesses Never Age, The Wisdom of Menopause, and Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom

"I love Alice. In fact, I NEED Alice. So I am eternally grateful to Sarah for putting Alice's salty, nourishing wisdom into human language so we can all read it! For all you tender fierce hearts out there-- here is the daily spiritual vitamin you've been longing for."

Katherine North, author of Holy Heathen: A Spiritual Memoir

"Sarah has done it again! These daily inspirations will leave you feeling supported, inspired, and uplifted for your day, topped off with a dose of laughter. Just what the shaman ordered!"

Tisha Morris, author of Clutter Intervention

Sarah Bamford Seidelmann MD is a 4th generation physician, accomplished writer, shamanic healer, artist, and coach. Her six books have all been instant Amazon best-sellers. Her What the Walrus Knows app for iOS has users in 65 countries. For twenty years, Sarah was a board-certified pathologist (what she calls a “disease hunter”). After decades of seeking out illness, she grew curious about what creates health. Through her own investigation and with the help of her spiritual ally, Alice, an elephant in spirit form, she discovered that creative self-expression is fundamental to our vitality and health. Sarah specializes in helping others foster a connection to spirit by spending time in nature and observing the birds and animals. Sarah has been an instructor and curriculum creator for Martha Beck’s Wayfinder Life Coach Training and an official contributor for Maria Shriver’s Architects of Change. Sarah is currently making art and preparing to publish her seventh book: a richly illustrated and entertaining volume about boundaries for helpers + healers. She co-leads a creative community called SHINE for writers and artists who are committed to showing up for their work, no matter what.

I bought this book on impulse during the pandemic. As the daughter of an aerospace scientist, my world view is firmly grounded in science, so it surprised me that I felt drawn to this. But I needed some daily inspiration, so I thought "why not give a go?"

And what a trip it has been since then. These meditations and daily inspirations have become a daily ritual for me. After making it through one calendar year with it, I've started again. I opt not to focus on the existential question of Alice; instead finding comfort and wisdom in the book's observations on topics ranging from creativity and self-love to anxiety and shame.

Regardless of where you are at in terms of your spiritual beliefs, this book holds value for anyone seeking to embrace and celebrate their true selves. It offers the encouragement and support needed to do just that. Skeptical? I get it. I was too. But if you can't move past that, you may lose out on some of the kindest and insightful guidance you can get.

This a fun and quick way to receive a daily dose of creativity and inspiration. And your guide through this journey is a sassy elephant by the name of Alice! Each day there is a brief paragraph from Alice followed by an explanation and a reflective question from the author. I'm not a religious person, so the prayers for each day weren't that important to me. If it's not your thing, they are located at the bottom of the bag and can be skipped. If your finding yourself in a rut, this book might help inspire you. Takes no more than a minute or two to read the thought of the day, then your off to take on the day!

I received a free e-ARC from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for a review.

I am fifteen days in, and every single day, Alice has doled out her lighthearted, somewhat salty, unique wisdom with spot on accuracy. Sarah's thoughts are the perfect "real world" compliment, and the affirmations and prayers are exactly what I need to round it all out. I can't recommend this book enough. I absolutely LOVE it!!

I usually like these types of books but this one seemed to be more autobiographical and self centred towards the author rather than a self help. It was very repetitive and I didn’t enjoy it.

Thanks to Net Galley for the free digital copy of this book in return for my honest opinion.

If I had heard of this book several years ago I probably would have rolled my eyes. Since a life event shifted my perspective to a more spiritual one however I have become much more open to different beliefs and possibilities.

The book is made up of daily doses of wisdom from the author’s spirit animal, or “core beastie,” Alice The Elephant. Each one is followed by an anecdote from where the author has applied it and what she learned. A question is posed for the reader to consider before a brief prayer ends the passage for the day.

I had no knowledge of shamanic journeys or spirit animals before this book crossed my path but I was curious about what it all meant. Although I read the whole book and noted passages which felt particularly meaningful for my life at the moment, I’m going to start a practise of reading a passage each morning before I start my day. At the very least, the encouragement to meditate is surely a good way to set out your intentions. #howgood #netgalley
