In the dark world of a Guardian Shadow, an axiom “Don’t. Get. Caught."

His code name was Tempest, and his enemy caught him.

Stratus did unspeakable things to him until, out of his mind, he prayed for death—but he’d never broken faith with his brothers. God, how he wished they knew that. He had not compromised them. He’d told Stratus nothing. Cast aside as useless, left to starve or die of his injuries, his broken body lay in a bare cell, forgotten, and Tempest knew his prayer for the end would be answered shortly.

Until her. She made him want to live—if only to help her escape.

Not all devils are male. The worst are female. Pilar had lived with one every day of her life—a woman who made a mockery of the word “mother.” When the woman couldn’t manipulate or intimidate her into doing as she wished, she threw Pilar into a cell with a man—or what was left of a man—admonishing her to, “see what happens to people who don’t give me what I want.” At the sight of his broken body, a fierce desire to provide solace and comfort trumped any sort of fear her mother thought to provoke—and an unshakeable bond was formed. As laughable as it seemed at the time, they each vowed to help the other escape.

His fellow Shadow rescued Tempest. Pilar knew he’d return for her if he lived. For thirty-three months, twelve days, five hours, and forty-three minutes, she faithfully monitored a hidden dropbox for his message. She almost missed it, and then she doubted her eyes.

“I’m coming for you.”

The Fates change

It's a great book. Kris Michaels has an incredible talent for wrapping things and hinting at something in one story to bring it about in another. For a continuity lover like me, this is awesome. This book is the end of the Fates arc.

In the last book, the one thing that really bothered me was how the message for help was sent. Tempest in the state and conditions he was in was on no shape to send it out. That is explained here.

One of the other things I really like about this book is Tempest is old school, and apart from working through his own trauma and physical conditioning, he is finding it difficult to transition in the new Guardian/Shadow world.

As usual, I enjoyed the returning characters and was very glad they got to prove their worth. I did not find Pilar all that interesting till the end, hint, there is a revelation there.

I love that all these books are interconnected, catching up with old and meeting new characters. I can't wait to see what happens next. From the sound of things, Guardian might have kicked over a Hornets nest. Especially in the Shadow world.

Another great read from the Guardian series

No plot spoilers. To obtain the best read from the book it would be best to read the full series and see how the integral characters developed the entity that is Guardian. It can be read as a standalone but it would totally help if the reader understood the backstory leading to the events in this book. For me it's the culmination of a storyline that has evolved and grown into a main plot device. All of the series is engaging and superbly written with well developed characters and that creates the need to see how they all develop further and how they interact with each other. The story is fast paced and well thought out, there are some sex scenes each of them appropriate and loving and the only potential trigger is towards the end with an implied beating that is never described although there are a few murders one of which is gruesome but I did enjoy it! For me, the end of the Fates concludes the Guardian/Shadows but having said that, I have still put the next book onto my wish list.

Oh. My. Goodness. That... that was a breath-stealing roller-coaster of a read.

I had been so very anticipate-y for Tempest's story... and I can certainly say that I was not disappointed.

There was so much in this, it is hard to even begin... so I won't. Suffice is to say, this really does do Tempest justice. Pilar is a brilliant match for him ( although there were times that her naivety frustrated me... )... and I loved the others joining in! And Cassie too... that was very cool. Although, I still have a soft spot for Jewell & Zane. Then... the Shadows... can't even... just too fulfilling for words!!

Closure on the Fates - that was wonderful ( I mean, obviously not in a unicorn and rainbows sort of way... more like in a karma is served )... but what about Stratus?????

Death or the light?

Before Pilar Tempest had already chosen death, after Pilar he will fight for the light and fight for her.
Tempest's past is torturous and devastating, in comparison Pilar's past seems like a picnic....but not everything is as it seems. Infact, nothing is as it seems, but what we do know is that they are fighting the rarest form of evil, evil beyond imagination and nobody is safe, everyone is a pawn to be used, abused or sacrificed.
The strength Tempest and Pilar show throughout this book is phenomenal, they have a shared experience that nobody else can begin to imagine or understand, but they have so much more.
This book left me emotionally exhausted but it is a big win for Guardian and keeps us totally invested in the ongoing fight.
I read this on Kindle Unlimited.

Fantastic, As Expected

Kris Michaels writes characters who are intriguing and multi-layered. This story is no exception. Pilar and Tempest connect in a way that you know is going to carry them through whatever evil forces throw at them. These books are not light reading, but they do keep you on the edge of your seat. I keep coming back to these unforgettable characters, rooting for them to find joy in the end. I think they do.

Still love this series.

This was another good addition to the Guardian Security Shadow World series. Finally some significant progress was made in the Stratus overarching storyline that cuts across the original Guardian series and spin-offs, and still, tension was built so that we still care to know what will be the fall out of what happened with Stratus in this book.

The premise of this 5th book in this spin-off Guardian Shadow World Series is that assassin Tempest is out for revenge after having been caught and tortured by one of the Fates, the leaders of Stratus. At that time the daughter of that Fate helped him in his rescue and knowing she is trapped in her mother’s evil web, now is his time to pay her back and rescue her whilst enacting his revenge of Stratus and the Fates.

This was as action-packed and violent as you can expect from this series. The romance aspect was fair, it wasn’t the most convincing romance I’ve read in this world but I liked it well enough. I liked Pilar as a character and the fact that she had integrity, but I thought it was kind of dumb how Tempest dealt with her tracking devices and then sent her back home as if her mother wouldn’t realize that she was aware of the existence of the devices and moreover, had gotten help to dispose of them. The element of the book didn’t make any sense to me at all or go with how tightly-plotted the rest of the book was. I loved that all the characters from earlier books featured here and I was intrigued by secondary character, Smoke’s, relationship with his partner, Sage. The epilogue reveals that the relationship might not actually be what we expect but at least we know Smoke has the next book.

OMG Another Great Read!

OMG Kris you have definitely created such an amazing series of Guardian Books so far and this one definitely had me sitting on the edge of my seat the whole time. This storyline between Tempest aka Luke & Pillar was explosive finally hearing Tempest story after he was missing & tortured for 3 years & finally rescued in your previous book called Thanatos. This book was filled with so much action packed scenes, I loved seeing some of the other characters from Guardian come together & reunite in this book to finally take down the 3 Fates all thanks to the information Pillar gave them to put the whole rest of the missing pieces together. Pillar is such a strong, bright & amazing woman who was an Angel who entered Luke's life during the darkest time of his life & also is the reason he was rescued, survived & able to keep his promise to come back for her. I can't wait to start reading Smoke's book next & see what kind of trouble he and his new temporary partner Charley get into.

Kris Michael's you are an amazing author who has created such well written storylines for each of your characters & have yet to disappoint me yet with each book I've read so far. Kudos to you & I wish you nothing but more success with each story that you create for book addicts like me who can't seem to stop reading your books & always want more!

Tempest is the fifth instalment in the Guardian Security: Shadow World series by Kris Michaels. I couldn't wait to dive into this series - binging my way through this thrilling blend of high-stakes suspense, military precision, and emotional romance. This series is a spin-off from her Kings of Guardian universe, and dives into the covert, dangerous, and morally complex missions of elite operatives working in the shadows where the stakes are high, loyalty is tested, danger is constant, and love often comes at the highest cost.
Each book focuses on a different operative, giving us a fresh perspective each time, while also weaving in an overarching sense of camaraderie and found family. The characters are layered - hardened by their pasts and yet still vulnerable in ways that make them relatable. I recommend reading the series from the beginning, reading each book in sequential order for you to be able to fully appreciate the interconnected relationships and evolving team dynamics.
Ms. Michaels doesn’t shy away from the darker realities of covert work, but she also infuses hope, resilience, and the healing power of love into her storylines.
So, if you enjoy romantic suspense with military and intelligence intrigue, then you will want to dive into this world and experience all the action, passion, and edge of your seat missions for yourself.
Happy Reading…

I absolutely adored Luke (a/k/a Tempest). That man suffered so much when he was taken and I cannot imagine being beaten and tortured for three years and living through the unbelievable mental and physical pain he suffered. His one saving grace was Pilar. When she was thrown into his cell, the two of them instantly connected. She showed him the first kindness he had been shown in years. They shared secrets but more importantly Pilar gave Luke a reason to live. When she promised to help him escape, he promised to return the favor. Two years later Pilar believed Luke was dead until she received the message she’d been hoping for. “I’m coming for you.”

I loved these two characters together. Luke and Pilar were so sweet. They cared so deeply for each other and just clicked the moment they reunited. Pilar was able to help Guardian learn about the Fates, and I was happy to FINALLY see Guardian cause some destruction to Stratus. Guardian is supposed to be the best, so it was beginning to bother me that Stratus always seemed a step ahead.

I really liked Smoke and Sage and enjoyed catching up with so many of the other characters from previous books. I’ve grown to love all these characters and I am enjoying all the Guardian series.

Chris Michaels you're the bomb this was the most exciting book of all except for Fury I still love Fury. it was a great plot line and I loved seeing all our favourite characters coming together again I had such a smile on my face and the way you have introduced smoke into the fold is interesting and the way you have left the door open for more military Black Ops work because of how the women started events that will just keep going. I loved the twist that was totally unexpected from the heroine and Matt Haynes what can I say about you. as usual you have nailed, yet another book from this series ...looking fwd to the rest but they are not out yet.
a brilliant suspense HEA with more military than romance. just loved see all my faves reappear.... Ms Michael's you have your research and writing style in spades.
thank you thank you thank you for giving me so many hours of pleasure listening and thank you thank you thank you to Matt Haynes that has a perfect voice for these types of books with awesome inflections.
so looking forward to smoke a few little surprises there methinks ?!

I borrowed Tempest ~ Guardian Security Shadows World ~ Book 5, by Kris Michaels from the Kindle Unlimited Program.

The operative known as Tempest was rescued from being captured and tortured in Thanatos the previous book in this series. He was given help by Pilar, the daughter of one of his captors and they made a vow to help each other find freedom.

Pilar is the daughter and lawyer for one of the Fates when she is being taught a lesson and put into Tempest's cell for a weekend. He was near death and had given up until her kindness reached out to him. She sent the code to save and three years later he appeared and was ready to save her and get his revenge for what was done to him.

This sets the plot for how they give her information to Guardian Security that Jewell is able to do her magic and find what they need to take down the Fates and their organization. Lots of action, fun, a broken toe and a successful series of missions with all the original Shadows taking part in the final take down.

I loved the ending with Pilar taking charge and closure for her unknown sister too.

Tempest, from a tragic encounter to a fabulous finalè

An unlikely encounter that was to teach Pilar a lesson, ultimately determind the saving of Tempest, a vow made to one another leads us through page after page of one heck of an adventure, that begins the process to unravel the evil of the Fates and Stratus .
Fast paced, action packed, suspence with a side helping of really intense romance, Kris Micheals never fails to deliver.
We have a truly rare experience of all the gaurdians and shadows working as a collective in this novel, brilliant move and highly unusual, but so worth it
The word building throughout takes us on a fabulous journey of discovery, its beyond talent and hard work, its gripping, its mesmerising, its so beautifully written its practically lyrical.
The character's created and developed for the entire Guardian world are exquisitely fabulous. Its so easy to see why Kris is adored, anyone who writes as passionately as she does cares about her work and craft and leads us all through a magical experience time and time again.

wow.

Spoiler alert. I proudly figured out that Pilar was not Regina's daughter. The other books have kept me guessing. There are many moving parts in this story and many Guardian players. Keeping them sorted was difficult. I had a hard time with the torture that Tempest endured. So I skimmed those sections. Maybe bc this is Book 5, but I wanted the book to go faster and slowdown at the same time. Give me a chance to clear my head a bit. The internal struggle Tempest has of wanting revenge and loving Pilar warred with each other from beginning to end. And the tightrope of Pilar’s circumstances as Regina’s lawyer and making sure she had no grounds to be disbarred was intense. The finale of it all was unexpected. And as in all of these books, happily ever after came. These books tackle various issues in depth.

I do have a pet peeve about the front covers. We women don't feel attraction visually in the same way that men do. The cover art annoys me. As a woman, I want to see the face of the man. Enough said on that.

OMG! I've got to try and leave a review without " fan-girling " all over the page.
This book.......this book tops all the other Shadow books.
And this book has all of them. Yes! Every one of the original shadows together on a mission to save Tempest's woman.
Fury, Bengal, Lycros, Anubus, Asp, Thanatos, yes even Moriah is here. And a supporting cast full of Guardians who are familiar to all fans of this world.
Watching Tempest overcome the dreadful injuries inflicted on him, both mental and physical, is an emotional journey you take along side him. To see him come out whole at the end of the journey is rewarding.
And even one of the oldest questions in the Guardian world gets an answer.
Kris Michaels has outdone herself again. It just keeps on getting better.
I'm fighting the urge to gush all over the place but I'm very happy my world has this author in it.

Wow. Nice To bring all the original assassins in on this op was brilliant. Finding family of someone missing outstanding. To see the Fates at their worse , we have sick people in this world.
Pilar was raised with supposed money, best educations, a lawyer for her mom. But, she was honest and knew her mom was into very suspicious stuff. Little did she know how terrible and how her life will be in grave unspeakable danger.
Tempest was missing for 3 years in the hands of the Fates it was discovered.
He had given up on life and was a thread from meeting his maker.
Pilar’s mother wanted to teach her what happens to people who betray her and threw her in a cell with Tempest.
Instead of running away from the horrorPilar tries to help them and a bond is formed.

3 years kTer tempest is healed and back in action and out to find Pilar. His assignment is the Fates and all the past assassins take part. Amazing.

Tempest!!!!!

OMG!! This book has absolutely everything in it. Mystery, intrigue, and high action. Add in Tempest the Guardian Shadow operative and Pilar the sassy lawyer, and it couldn’t be anything but a FIVE STAR READ!!

When Tempest is finally healthy enough to work again he has one goal in mind, to help the woman who help him when he was ready to give up.

Pilar is living a well orchestrated life under her powerful mothers thumb. Just when she thinks all hope is lost she receives a message from Tempest.

I have been waiting for Tempest’s story for so long and it surpassed everything I could have imagined. It had me intrigued from the first chapter to the last, I couldn’t put the book down.

Definitely the best story I’ve read this year. Absolutely one of my favorite Guardians!!! I’m excited to see how Guardian Security Shadow World continues.

If I could give this book more stars, I would. Holy Cow, this book had so much going on and the way it all came together was sheer genius. I will not spill any beans so to speak in this review. You have to read the for yourself. I thought that I had a favorite in this series but now I have a new one and Tempest is it.

He is such a strong character and while the other Shadows have suffered and risen again, I think that Tempest rises a bit about the others. He is amazing and Ms. Michaels draws you into to his story and holds you to the very end. Tempest blew me away with it's twists and turns and the ending is not to be missed. I should know by now to read this when I have time to read straight through. This was an incredible story of the power of hope and what it can give to a person. It's not one I will soon forget.

Great book

This book is full of action and exciting. It’s all about identifying and eliminating the Fates. After 3 years since his captivity by the Fates, Tempest is finally ready to find Pilar and rescue her from her controlling and evil mom. We meet new characters like Smoke, Sage and the Sierra team. I liked Pilar. She’s a straight shooter and a lawyer. She’s smart and can figure things out quickly. Lots of cloak and dagger situations where she needs to get the data she accumulated on her mom’s nefarious works to Tempest to breaking into someone’s home to figuring out where the bad guys are hiding at. We also get to see Tempest work and show us what a good assassin he is. They have a strong relationship and the bond was already there from the short time they were in his cell.

I recommend this book and can see me reading again.

After three years as a prisoner, near starvation, frequent beatings and no rescue attempt, captured Guardian Shadow Luke “Tempest’ Wagner was ready to give up. Then she came. She gave him hope. Lawyer Pilar Grantham was disgusted when her mother locked her in a cell with Luke as punishment. Pilar was appalled by the inhumane facilities, his condition, shocked by Tempest’s story Pilar promised to help. When she left, Pilar was able to end an SOS on Tempest’s behalf to his team.

Three years later, Of sound mind and body, Tempest is ready for a new assignment and to take his revenge on the Fates, Luckily Tempest and Guardian have the same goal in mind. And as he promised, Tempest contacts Pilar to help with a plan to get her out of her mother’s clutches, especially since Pilar has become more suspicious of some o mom’s actions.

Loose ends tied up nicely

Tempest and Pilar are perfect together. In this fast paced story, we learn about Tempest's imprisonment and the woman who'd given him hope and a reason to live. It's been three years since his rescue and Tempest has not forgotten the woman who'd fulfilled her promise to him. It was time for him to return the favor and keep his own promises. Including the one to himself to eliminate his jailer. But will he risk losing the woman he's loved all these years if he succeeds? You will not be disappointed with the way this story unfolds. Mysteries will be revealed. And the Shadow gang is reunited in a way only the men and women of the Shadow world can do it. Hilarity ensues.

The Shadows are more and more interesting as the series goes on. This book sees the return and redemption of Tempest, the lost one. He spent years in captivity until a blonde angel sent a message that freed him. Bringing back the Shadow took time as well as rehabilitation. In order to regain his strength and skills, as well as his mindset, he had to work. His assignment, as reward and test, was to eliminate the three-headed monster who had held him. Finding the angel again, he determines to get her away from the monster. Using a crew of Shadows and another Guardian team, they go from Florida to Europe to Russia, ending in New York. The angel hangs on for a happy ending, and finds even more than she expected.

Tempest Returns

Missing and tortured for three years, then rescued and reconstituted thanks to Guardian Security, assassin Tempest has two goals in mind: save his woman and revenge for his torture. Pilar was key to Tempest's rescue and he is sure she now needs rescuing, and she does. Unknowingly caught up in the evil clutches of the evil force of Stratus and the three Fates who control it, Pilar has recognized there's criminality. Guardian has recognised the true evil and is searching to end it. Pilar's insider information combined with Guardian's expertise and Tempest's vendetta results in danger, adventure and terror. The climax of overcoming the evil of the Fates Is cringe worthy, but well earned. Both protagonists and the Guardian team members are excellent characters, representing all that is good, but still human and empathetic.

Tempest & Pilar

Brilliant! Kris Michaels is Brilliant! The intricacies, twists and turns of her Guardian books are always phenomenal, but hit a whole new level in Tempest. Pilar Grantham gets tossed into a cell with a dying man by her mother to teach her a lesson. Tempest does get out, but knows he will keep his word and go back for Pilar, thus kicking off a wild ride. But there is SO much more below the surface than just that because it deals with Stratus, who had been behind capturing Tempest in the first place; and including other Shadow Warriors, and Guardian members rounds out the amazingness that is this book.

There’s a Tempest on the horizon😜

Tempest is the next story by Kris in the Guardian Shadow World and it’s absolutely phenomenal and I did not want to put it down😍

As we know, Guardian rescues Tempest after he’s been held for years by Stratus and tortured for information. He’s just been given the go ahead to return to the field and he has two missions on his mind❣️

One is to find the organisation who tortured him for years and dismantle their organisation and second to find the woman who ensured he survived❤️

Loved Tempest and Pilar’s story which came with a definite little twist at the end I did not see coming and I’m looking forward to more🤩

Tempest

WOW! Another FANTASTIC story by Kris! Luke was almost a goner until Pilar. Now the race was on to end all of the Fates. Unfortunately, the one who could raised Pilar was one of the Fates. Tempest was given the task to eliminate all of the Fates. He pleasured in that task as they were the ones who tortured him and left him for dead. Once all the Fates were eliminated, Luke could work on his happiness with Pilar. It was a surprise that Pilar asked Luke to marry her. I am also happy that Pilar found out she has a sister. FANTASTIC job Kris! I would highly recommend this book.

Another great book

So Kris just keeps getting better. Like a fine wine. I loved Tempest and Pilar. The visits from the Shadows and Guardian made this story even better. Redemption for Eve's character from Thanatos was also wonderful to read. She got a lot of flack, and it was nice to read her how she had redeemed herself. Finding long lost family was the best part of this book! Cannot wait for Smoke's book, and I'm really hoping Sage comes back in it! I could not put this book down once I started it!

Answered questions from other books.

Another great read from Kris Michaels. The two main characters were great and you could feel feel the love they had. Loved Tempest and Pilar both strong characters and stayed that way throughout the book. Loved how all the shadows came together near the end even Thanatos was allowed to join them.
You love to read Thanatos story again and he up with someone sooooo much better than Eve, someone like Pilar or Asp women.
Great read now have read all Kris Michaels books and really enjoy them.

The Fates found an issue

That issue is a 'daughter' with morals. And she found Tempest, the man with an unending grudge against the Fates. Her mother's plans for her to become mayor met a broken foot and a cruise around the Florida Keys planning her way out of becoming the first female President of the United States. As a puppet of course. But her mother didn't get where she was being dumb. She fires the first figurative shot and it's a good one. Good the the guys are better. But can she handle him making her mother?

What an amazing story. So much emotion and angst in this book.
Tempest is in a cell. He has been starved and tortured for days and still kept the secrets they wanted. Pilar isn't confirming to mommy's way so she is being punished and shoved into the cell with Tempest.
Tempest is recovering and it's time to go get Pilar. She can't believe he finally sent a message. They are finally together.
Guardian has sent the code and it's time to take down the Fates who tortured him. As he is progressing, Pilar is missing. He has to find her. Will he find her and the One?
